The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.

Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.

Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.

As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

Common Honda Cr-v 2017 problems

The 2017 Honda CR-V has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners.

  • Fuel mixing with oil: Another common issue reported by owners is related to fuel mixing with oil. This problem is particularly prevalent in the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine models, which are known to have issues with oil dilution with gasoline. This can lead to engine problems and a waste of oil, as well as a significant amount of time spent on oil changes. The problem appears to be more prevalent in cold climates, where the car is used for short drives and does not warm up. Honda has not yet provided a permanent recall or fix for this issue.
  • AC compressor seal complaints: Some owners have reported complaints related to the A/C compressor seal, which has been addressed by Honda in some models but not in others. This issue can lead to problems with the A/C compressor seal, which can be costly to repair.
  • Cruise control issues: Some owners have reported issues with the cruise control, which does not maintain the set speed and can lead to the collision alert coming on with no car in front of the vehicle. This issue has been reported to cause the car to apply the brakes, leading to a loss of power and multiple electrical systems reporting malfunctions in the dash display.
  • Tire and exhaust noise: Some owners have reported issues with the factory tires being noisy and the exhaust being heard all the time while accelerating. This can be a significant issue for some owners, particularly those who use their vehicles for long drives.
  • Rear upper control arm bushings: Some owners have reported issues with the rear upper control arm bushings being worn out, leading to a bit of sag in the rear of the vehicle. This issue can be costly to repair and can affect the overall performance of the vehicle.
  • AC recall issues: Some owners have reported issues with the AC recall, which can be challenging to fix. Honda has been accused of bait-and-switch tactics, quoting high prices for repairs and replacement parts.

In summary, the 2017 Honda CR-V has several common problems reported by owners, including fuel injector issues, fuel mixing with oil, AC compressor seal complaints, cruise control issues, tire and exhaust noise, rear upper control arm bushing problems, and AC recall issues. These issues can be costly to repair and can affect the overall performance and reliability of the vehicle. It is important for potential buyers to thoroughly research these issues and consider them when making a purchasing decision.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-30
  • VIN: 2HKRW2H85HH
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The fuel injectors failed on September 30th. Sitting in a parking lot when all of the warning lights on the dashboard started coming on. We immediately called the dealership and got the car in the next day. They thought it might be the battery. No prior problems. Dealership called and said it was the fuel injectors. Dealership said it was a known issue on 2017-18 CRVs. Google search confirmed many CRV owners withe same issue. Contacted Honda America to ask for compensation since this appeared to be a known issue. They did agree to pay for half of the $1,400 repair. They recommended contacting NHTSA to report the issue as well. We had 91,691 miles on this vehicle at that time.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2023-04-23
  • VIN: 7FARW5H37HE
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: I took my car into dealership over a year ago because of the steering. They didn’t have time to look at it so I took it to a repair shop. He drove the car and told me to take it to dealership because of the steering. He could feel the hesitation when driving. He said it should still be under warranty. Took it back to dealership another day . After waiting 2 hours I already knew when the technician came back they were going to charge me with something because it had been a 2 hour wait. He said I had a loose bolt!!! Really!! They didn’t even drive the car. Even after the so called loose bolt I’m still having the same issue. They said the car was no longer under warranty. There’s a clicking noise it makes and I’m scared to drive it long distances. I’ve had to rent a car. I pray every time I drive it. I know it’s going to be expensive to have it fixed. I pray you include this car in your recall.

Honda here in Reno, NV keeps replacing my fuel injectors (and making me pay for it) which seems to resolve it for a short while and then it all happens again. This is incredibly unsafe for this car to just stop accelerating at 60 mph… I drive m ya on in this car. Please look into this there are so so many people having this same exact problem with the same car and same year! Just Google “2017 Honda CRV all sensors not accelerating” And “2017 Honda CRV fuel injector problems” Please please help

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-07-15
  • VIN: 2HKRW2H81HH
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: The vehicle experienced multiple system failures, indicated by error messages in 11 different systems, including the check engine light. The affected systems were Tire Pressure Monitoring, Brake System, Electronic Power Steering, Vehicle Stability Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation, Electric Parking Brake, Emissions System, Brake Hold System, Hill Start Assist, and Collision Mitigation System. The vehicle was checked with a code scanner. The codes retrieved were “DTC 0300 Random Misfire, DTC P0301 No1 Cylinder Misfire, P0172 Fuel System (B1) Too Rich and DTC P0304 No4 Cylinder Misfire” No other system faults were detected despite the earlier errors. The direct injection fuel injectors and engine design seem to be the probable cause. There has been no inspection by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives at this time. The vehicle and components are available for inspection upon request. There were no pre-warning lamps, messages, or symptoms before the failure, suggesting the underlying problem may have been developing over a long period without detection. When these errors were displayed, critical safety systems in the vehicle were rendered inoperable, posing a significant risk to my safety and others on the road. An emissions system issue should not have caused multiple safety systems to be disabled, as this could potentially lead to a crash or other hazardous situations. This issue is well-documented online as a common problem with the Gen5 Honda CR-V, with many owners reporting similar experiences. Despite widespread complaints, Honda has not taken corrective action, such as issuing a software update to prevent safety system failures or acknowledging a potential manufacturing defect in the fuel system and fuel injectors. This problem is leading to premature and frequent fuel injector replacements. This can also increase potential safety hazards along with risks for injury or death.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-13
  • VIN: 5J6RW1H82HL
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
  • Summary: My family's 2017 Honda CR-V has been experiencing a persistent issue where multiple dashboard warning lights—such as lane mitigation, brake, ABS, check engine, check brakes, TPMS, and traction control—consistently appear whenever the vehicle is started. Initially intermittent, these alerts are now continuous, directly impacting the car's safety, particularly with traction control entirely disabled. This has resulted in several instances of tire slippage and loss of control on wet roads, raising serious safety concerns. Despite taking the vehicle to Honda, where it was suggested that replacing the fuel injectors for approximately $1,500 might resolve the issue, similar reports from other owners suggest that this solution may not fully address the underlying problem. The issue began around 80,000 miles without any prior incidents, and I am seeking a more definitive resolution to ensure the vehicle's safety and reliability.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-02
  • VIN: 5J6RW2H8XHL
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: In June 2024 the first warning that appeared was an emissions warnings. The vehicle seemed to be running fine despite the warning. After the warning was cleared, the vehicle continued to run well. At the beginning of August the vehicle experienced multiple system failures, indicated by error messages in 11 different systems, including the check engine light. The affected systems were Tire Pressure Monitoring, Brake System, Electronic Power Steering, Vehicle Stability Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, Road Departure Mitigation, Electric Parking Brake, Emissions System, Brake Hold System, Hill Start Assist, and Collision Mitigation System. When these errors were displayed, critical safety systems in the vehicle were rendered inoperable, posing a significant risk while driving. An emissions system issue should not have caused multiple safety systems to be disabled. After the errors occurred, the vehicle was taken to a dealership for inspection. The dealer identified that the emissions system was running too rich, causing the fuel injectors to become soiled, leading to engine misfires and reduced power/fuel economy. The dealership reported the issue as “DTC P0303 No3 Cylinder Misfire, P0172 Fuel System (B1) Too Rich.” No other system faults were detected despite the earlier errors. I will get the new fuel injectors installed as soon as I can afford it. Unfortunately this issue is well-documented online as a common problem with the Gen5 Honda CR-V, with many owners reporting similar experiences. Despite widespread complaints, Honda has not acknowledged a potential manufacturing defect in the fuel system and has not issued a recall.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-07
  • VIN: 5J6RW2H52HL
  • Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: The collision mitigation braking system malfunctioned. The car would be available for inspection upon request. After the light turned green I entered the intersection, going approx 20mph, when suddenly the car braked on its own without a car/object in front of my vehicle. I could hear the beeping from the collision mitigation system at the same time. Since I did not know the car was about to stop, I was unable to prevent my dog from falling forward and striking the dashboard. Although myself, my dog and the people behind me were at risk, no injuries were sustained. The person behind me was able to stop luckily. I will be scheduling yet another diagnostic with Honda, though I just did that a few months ago when all the warning lights came on. After the injectors were replaced at that time, they were able to turn off the warning lights. I do not believe they will be able to recreate the problem.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-01-01
  • VIN: 2HKRW2H50HH
  • Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: When the car was around 60k miles, all the warning lights started appearing. I took it to repair shop and they did some testing and cannot find any issues. The warning lights stopped for two weeks and all warning lights showed up. Initially they changed a spark plug. The warning lights stopped for another week and reappeared . This time I was told all fuel injector need to be changed. Honda has recall on almost all vehicles except my crv. There were no parts in any dealership. I had no choice but to change all fuel injectors which cost me $1600. Since this particular part is defective in almost all Honda vehicles, I should get this repaired at no charge. It is the same type of fuel injectors in all vehicles, I think Honda should expand recall to crv too. I called Honda. They told me that there is no recall for CRV. But I saw many crv owners with the same issue

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-08-30
  • VIN: 2HKRW6H34HH
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Gear shift button broke and came out of the shifter completely. I can not put the vehicle in gear and I am stranded. I contacted my local dealership and they acted like they have never heard of this being a problem. My vehicle had under 12000 miles and this happens. Of course it is a problem. The components broken brittle parts speak for the cheap plastic used in such a critical area. The cost of the repair shouldn't be a factor for recall. The number of people reporting this problem is a small percent compared to the many who have had the repair when it is clearly a manufacturers defect.

Negative Honda Cr-v 2017 car reviews

I recently switched from Chrysler to Honda based on their reliability ratings. However, my experience with Honda has not been as positive as I had hoped. I purchased two Honda CR-V's, an LX and an EX, both AWD. Unfortunately, the EX experienced a dead battery after only 6 weeks of ownership, which left me stranded. This has never happened to me before in all my years of driving, and I am 64 years old. Although the dealer replaced the battery, I still feel like something else might be wrong as the electronic dashboard keeps doing strange things. Additionally, both vehicles are plagued by countless rattles, and the LX is sometimes hard to start. On a positive note, the vehicles are roomy and get good MPG's. Personally, I prefer the 2.4 engine in the LX over the 1.5 turbo in the EX. While I am disappointed with my experience with Honda, I understand that every car brand has its own issues. I would recommend doing thorough research before making a purchase decision.

I am a Honda enthusiast, and my love for the brand started with my 2005 CRV. It was a reliable car that took me 120,000 miles with just one issue, a rear caliper. When we traded it for a leased 2014 model, I was excited to see the improvements that Honda had made. The lease was up in a couple of months, and my husband and I decided to test drive the newly released 2017 model. We were blown away by how much better it was compared to our previous ones. The heated leather seats are much more comfortable, and the interior has been upgraded to more quality materials. The leather accents on the steering wheel are wonderful, and the ride is much quieter and more comfortable. I was impressed with how much less road noise this model has. The automatic high beams and the auto tailgate are great features that make driving this car a pleasure. This is definitely the largest CRV to date, and the extra room in the back seat is obvious to all. Our Goldendoodle is usually the only one back there, and she seems pretty happy with it. Although it took me a bit to get used to all the new tech, I am impressed with all of it. Honda did an amazing job of taking the dependable but kinda boring CRV and raising it to a whole new level. It is a car that I love and cherish. Even after 22 months, I still feel the same way about it. While experiencing an issue with the Turbo engine, I visited my local Honda dealer with pictures of my oil level on the dipstick and information from Consumer Reports. Despite having purchased four vehicles from them over the last 13 years, I was disappointed with the service I received. Although the service manager eventually covered my cost, I was surprised by the lack of support from Honda. I have filed a case with Honda America and requested more frequent oil changes until a fix for this issue is found. While the problem is serious, I am confident that Honda is working on a solution. I look forward to hearing back from them soon. The Honda technician who performed my first oil change was likely aware that my CRV had gas in the oil when it was done last year. It would have been more respectable for Honda to have been transparent and forthcoming about the issue as soon as they became aware of it. Unfortunately, this experience has led me to decide that Honda is not the right choice for me. UPDATE: As of June of last year, we no longer own this CRV. We settled our lawsuit and sold it to a dealer a day later.

One thing that many car reviewers fail to mention is the noise level of this car on the highway. Unfortunately, the sound dampening material on this car is not very effective, resulting in a loud cabin at highway speeds. However, the car is still quite comfortable for long trips (despite the noise), and boasts good power and cargo capacity. Additionally, the car has an attractive appearance, although the wheels could be improved. The engine is decent and fuel efficient, averaging around 32 mpg @ 76 mph on road trips with a full load of 4 passengers. While the turbo lag may take some getting used to, switching to sport mode can make for a fun driving experience. The infotainment center could use some improvement, as switching between connected devices and conventional radio/satellite radio sources can be distracting and require multiple button pushes. However, Apple CarPlay is a great feature. Overall, this is a good car, with the exception of the road noise. It is the first thing new passengers tend to notice when taking a ride, and it has me considering trading it in for a different car.

Hi there! I wanted to share my experience with my Honda CR-V EX 2017 that I purchased from Castle Honda in Morton Grove, IL back in February 2017. Unfortunately, I've been having some trouble with it starting up lately, which has made it a bit unreliable. It's happened four times already, with three of those times being in the last three weeks. The first time it happened was in August 2017 when I tried to start it after not driving it for a week while I was on vacation. Luckily, I was able to jump start it with my other car. The second time it happened was on 12/11/2017 and I wasn't able to jump start it. I had to call Honda roadside assistance on 12/12/2017 to tow the car, but the tow truck guy was able to jump start it. I took it to Castle Honda and they tested the battery, but said it was fine and they weren't sure what the issue was. I also mentioned that the tailgate door wasn't working properly and they tested that as well, finding that the struts were broken and ordered the parts. I drove the car home hoping the problem was fixed, but unfortunately, the third time it happened was on 12/29/2017 and I wasn't able to jump start it. I called Honda roadside assistance and they sent someone to jump start it. I took it back to Castle Honda and they tested the battery again, but still couldn't find the issue. They suggested towing it next time it happens. The fourth time it happened was on 12/31/2017, but unfortunately, the dealership was closed on 12/31/2017 and 1/1/2018, so I had to wait until 1/2/2018 to seek roadside assistance. Despite these issues, I'm hopeful that Castle Honda will be able to help me resolve the problem soon. Thanks for listening!I had a very frustrating experience with my Honda CR-V, American Honda, and Castle Honda. When I requested roadside assistance at 3:30 AM, I was told that the expected time for the tow truck to arrive was between 3 and 8 hours. However, the tow truck did not show up until 11 AM. The tow truck driver from J-TEAM AUTOMOTIVE refused to tow the car and gave me a lot of excuses. I did not want to wait another 5 hours for help, so I let him jump start the car. I drove the car to Castle Honda, but it would not start again. The dealership service department tested the battery and found that it was faulty, so they replaced it. Although I am not sure if this will resolve all the issues with the car, I appreciate the dealership's help. I have been in contact with American Honda since 12/11/2017, and they have opened up a case on my car. While the case manager has told me that they bear no responsibility for the dealership or the roadside assistance, they have assured me that they will fix any issues the car may have under warranty. Although I have had a negative experience with my Honda CR-V, American Honda, and Castle Honda, I am hopeful that the issue has been resolved and that I can enjoy my car again. Thank you for your help. The tow truck driver made some excuses as to why the car needed a jump start, but eventually managed to jump start it and load it onto the tow truck. We then took the car to Castle Honda where they asked me to leave it for inspection and repairs. Later, they informed me that the battery had failed the test and they had replaced it. I was able to drive the car home on the same day. Unfortunately, the car died again on 11/2/19 and I had to request roadside assistance to tow it. This time, the tow truck driver, a lady, put in a lot of effort, even using skates to load the car onto the truck. We then took the car back to Castle Honda where they asked me to leave it for inspection and repairs. Castle Honda informed me over the phone on 11/4/19 that the battery had failed the test again and they had replaced it, but were still testing the car. As of 6.05 PM on 11/5/19, the car is still at Castle Honda.

On February 23, 2018, my car with only 5500 miles on it started making a horrible noise and losing power while on the highway. We immediately made an appointment with the dealership. Honda Corporate and the Service Manager determined through video chats and conference calls that the cams were destroyed in my engine. They believe this had to do with fuel and oil mixing and getting into the engine. Although there is no fix for the problem with the fuel and oil mixing and destroying the engine, Honda Corporate (800-999-1009) offered me a 100,000 extended warranty and recommended that I go to the dealer every 500 miles to get an oil change to see if fuel is mixing with the oil. The Service Manager also stated that Corporate informed him this was a Regional issue due to our climate, and they are currently trying to figure out a software fix for the problem. While there is no final resolution in sight, I appreciate the efforts of Honda Corporate and the Service Manager to address the issue. I am confident that they will continue to work towards a solution. In the meantime, I have decided not to purchase the 2017/2017 CRV EX 1. Thank you for your understanding.Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that unfortunately, the 5 turbo models are currently experiencing an oil/gas problem. At the moment, there isn't a fix available, but we're working hard to find a solution. Thank you for your understanding!

Positive Honda Cr-v 2017 car reviews

The highway driving experience is made incredibly leisurely with Adaptive Cruise Control and Lane Assist, which is just one step below self-driving. The Android Auto integration is truly amazing. As someone who has been using Android Auto on my phone in an air-vent mount for years, I can confidently say that this is light years better. The feature list for the price is unbeatable. Additionally, the car drives much nicer and with significantly less road noise than my 2009 CRV. While there are a few minor complaints, such as the USB port with the data connection only being 1.5AMP, the two 2+AMP ports in the back make up for it. However, it is a bizarre decision that the port that will be used every single time the owner gets in the car doesn't get turbo charging. The Road Departure Protection has a tendency to trigger randomly on less-than-great roads, but I have been dealing with it and resisting the temptation to turn it off because I know if I turn it off it's likely to stay off and then it won't be there for me when I need it. Occasionally, the computer says my phone isn't connected when it is, but unplugging and replugging it always fixes the issue. The car has plenty of power for average commuting, and I have never been tempted to turn off Eco mode. I am currently averaging about 31.5 MPG without really trying and using Adaptive Cruise Control heavily.

That's a great deal for the car! With so many options out there, it can be tough to find the perfect fit, but I found this one to be very practical and stylish both inside and out. The feature set is impressive for the price, and the interior quality is top-notch with high-quality materials. While there are a few cons, such as the entertainment system, CarPlay is a great alternative. Additionally, the auto headlights and wipers could be more automatic, but the LED headlights are a nice touch that improve visibility. The city fuel economy may not be as realistic as advertised, but the highway fuel economy is on par with expectations. Overall, I think this car is a great choice for anyone in the market for a new vehicle!

I'm so glad to hear about your experience with your SUV! It sounds like you've really put it to the test, driving 10,000 miles with 10% on the highway. Your combined 29 mpg is impressive, and it's great to hear that you get even better mileage on the freeway at 35 mpg. The car's handling sounds fantastic, with responsive turning and a solid hold on the road. I'm also happy to hear that you're enjoying the digital console and that the sound quality is decent. It's great that the Bluetooth and Android Audio are working well for you too. While it would be nice if the back seats could slide in and out, it's good to hear that they're still comfortable where they are. Overall, it sounds like you're really enjoying your SUV and I'm so happy for you!

Wondering why we chose the 2017 Honda CRV Touring? Let me give you a little background on our car ownership. We recently sold our 2005 Toyota RAV4, which we were happy with, but after 12 years of ownership, we decided it was time for a new car. We first visited the Toyota dealership, but the 2017 Toyota RAV4 was much larger than our 2005 model and we weren't impressed with the way it looked, especially the interior. Although it's still a great car, these reasons led us towards Honda. Our son suggested the Honda Fit, but after owning an SUV, it was difficult to switch back to a compact car. We ultimately decided on the 2017 Honda CR-V Touring model and have now owned it for a little over two months. We absolutely love this car! It's a very smooth driving vehicle with a lot of safety features (Honda Sense), great design - both interior and exterior, and all-wheel drive adds stability. If you can afford this feature, it's a must-have. Fuel economy is excellent and we love the large digital display because it's easy to see the speed you're driving and the road at the same time. The information system with navigation provided by Garmin is great, and if you own an Android phone, you can use Google maps for navigation. Originally, we planned to get the 2017 Honda CR-V EX-L, but we changed our minds when we saw the LED headlamps in action. Before buying, I read a lot of reviews about the Touring trim level and was really surprised that there were some negative reviews about the sound system. You simply need to adjust the treble and bass levels. If you listen to low-quality recordings, don't expect great sound. I've downloaded my music collection to a USB drive and all the music I play has exceptional quality, but even so, some sounded better than others. For example, Jaime Valle's “Round Midnight” album sounds outstanding. If your budget permits, go for the Touring trim level. From now on, I'm a Honda fan!

  5. Major Lebsack 2024-07-20

I've had my Touring AWD for three weeks now and I absolutely love driving it. It's incredibly comfortable and enjoyable to drive. Although it's my first car with a CVT transmission, I'm slowly getting used to it. At first, I wasn't a fan of the RIM design, but after seeing them in motion, I've grown to love them. I do hope that the black finish won't scratch off during tire rotations. While the engine noise can be a bit loud during acceleration, it's not a deal-breaker for me. I highly recommend the EX or higher trim to take advantage of the amazing Honda sensing features. Currently, I'm getting 26mpg in the city, despite driving during rush hour with lots of stop-and-go traffic on my way to work. Thank you for considering my recommendation!
