Honda Cr-v 2018 problems
The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.
Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.
Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.
As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-22
- VIN: 2HKRW6H35JH
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I am writing to report noncompliance with the fuel pump recall for 2018 Honda CRVs. I was unable to find a place to report such noncompliance, so I ask that you refer this complaint ot the appropriate enforcement unit of the NHTSA. Since the recall was announced last spring, I have on three occasions asked my Honda dealer/service provider (Honda of Princeton) when my fuel pump will be replaced. Each time they have said that no fuel pumps are available and have added that there is not really a problem and that if my fuel pump malfunctions, they will replace it immediately --- which of course goes against the spirit of the recall, which is to avoid preventable accidents due to fuel-pump malfunctioning. They have been giving me later and later dates for a replacement fuel pump, and it appears that compliance with the NHTSA recall is in an ever receding future.

ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-15
- VIN: 2HKRW2H8XJH
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Issue: Car loses power while driving. Event: Started car, drove down a hill about 1.5 miles. Tried to accelerate, lost all power, CEL started blinking. Limped car to safe location but could not accelerate over 5 mph. Next start, all vehicle warning lights flashing on dashboard. Code reader threw a P0310, P0300 (engine misfire). Problem reproduced/confirmed by independent service center. Preliminary diagnostics (swapped ignition coils and spark plugs 1&2 to 3&4, reinspected, misfires still on 1&2) suggesting possible fuel injector faults. Recommended working with Honda directly for further diagnostics because fuel injectors are replaced as an assembly and often require programming by a dealer, also problem seems similar to recall issue. Concern: Vehicle has 42,000 miles; fuel injectors should not fail at this mileage. Received a Honda safety recall letter in February 2024 NHTSA Recall Number: 23V-858/Honda Campaign number KGC. Called Honda after unsafe driving event (loss of power while driving). Honda stated that the recall for my VIN was rescinded. However, the problem seems very likely related to this recall.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-17
- VIN: 5J6RW1H59JL
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated that when steering, the steering would be nonresponsive. The failure occurred intermittently. The vehicle would then eventually turn off a jerking sensation after being nonresponsive at first. There would be a delay between steering and the vehicle's response. There were no warning lights regarding the steering but the low tire pressure light would illuminate intermittently. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the steering box had failed and needed to be replaced. The vehicle had been scheduled for repair but has not been repaired as of yet. The dealer informed the contact that it was a common failure and the part was on backorder. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and offered to begin a campaign regarding the failure. The manufacturer offered to partially assist with the repair. The manufacturer had referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to file a complaint. The failure mileage was 70,000.
STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-27
- VIN: 7FARW2H97JE
- Components: STEERING,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: This might very well be linked/associated with recent recall for newer Honda CRVs 2022+ for the steering gearbox. Intermittently I'm hearing a creaking noise when steering to the left. I tried to get the dealer to reproduce the issue, and it happened twice while test driving in the lot, but a very faint noise. The dealer couldn't pinpoint the exact issue. The other thing which started happening alongside this creaking noise, is on slow highway speeds and curvy roads, I feel the steering wheel very tight and it seems to stick to the left side, and when I put pressure to turn right/make it straight, it feels like a very sudden movement. This is a safety issue, very likely if this increases, could cause an accident if I can't turn correctly. There are very similar complains by other Honda CR-V owners, and this merits an investigation and recall. I had a full 60K maintenance performed, where the dealer recommended a tie rod change, they replaced, replaced front brakes/rotors and had alignment done as part of that too, they did a complete check of everything under the car, and found no issues.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-01
- VIN: 5J6RW6H36JL
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: I received a safety recall in February 2024 about a faulty fuel pump. Then I got another notice saying the parts would be here this fall as do they are not. The safety consequences are a stall while driving increasing the risk of a crash or injury. I am increasingly worried about driving my car. I don’t understand why it is taking so long to resolve this issue. Honda is making fuel pumps for their new cars and this safety recall is not a priority for them . I
POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-11
- VIN: 5J6RW2H57JL
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I understand that the NHTSA has an investigation ongoing after an unspecified number of owners reported serious problems with the differential. The investigation covers as many as 1.7 million 2018-2022 Honda CR-V. My Honda 2018 with 74,400 miles was just diagnosed with this problem. A pinion seal is leaking. The mechanic said this should not happen with such low miles.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-11
- VIN: 2HKRW2H86JH
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Our 2018 Honda CR-V has had steering issues since (first noticed) approx one year after purchase. The steering is "sticky," especially at highway speeds, and worse after the vehicle is hot (after being driven for awhile). We once took it to a Honda dealer, complaining of this issue, and the technician assigned was very flippant, drove it around the block (not at highway speeds) and dismissed our concerns, saying there was nothing wrong. Recently, we read about a RECALL of 2022-25 Honda CR-Vs for this EXACT same issue. (The issue/problem in the recall of 2022-25 model years is EXACTLY what we are experiencing in our 2018 CRV: sticky steering that is substantially worse at high speeds and after the vehicle has been driven awhile. We are very concerned, because our steering "sticks" ALWAYS at highway speeds when warm/hot. Can you somehow evaluate our vehicle, because the technician/dealer does not seem interested or concerned.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-10-10
- VIN: 5J6RW1H80JL
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The contact owns a 2018 Honda CR-V. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the steering wheel failed to function as intended. The contact stated that the steering wheel was sticking. The vehicle was taken to the dealer several times over two years; however, the cause for the failure could not be duplicated. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.
STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-19
- VIN: 7FARW2H82JE
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: Our 2018 Honda CRV EX-L AWD started exhibiting symptoms of when driving straight and making minor corrections the wheel felt like a magnet was holding it and the would let go causing you to over correct, started maybe 2-3 months ago, starting to feel like it’s getting worse. Took 2 trips to Honda dealer and me doing research online about service bulletins and recalls before they could figure it out. Given Honda has a Bulletin about it and there was a NHTSA campaign for it, which affects safety it seems Honda should be covering this repair. (NHTSA Campaign # 18V663000) Was told it only affected a few vehicles and ours wasnt part of the campaign even though it’s the exact problem ours has. The car feels unsafe with it the steering becoming unpredictable and it should be Hondas responsibility to rectify this safety issue especially since the company knows of it, yet the dealer told me wouldn’t be covered and I would have to pay $4417.21 to fix this! I dont have that type of money laying around for this big of a repair! Let alone why would I want to pay for it when it sounds like a known issue that Honda should be doing the right thing and covering what sounds like a manufacturing defect. Dealer seemed to reference Honda Service Bulletin 18-103 which exactly describes our issue in the CRV and seems to also match the same statement of the NHTSA bulletin above. We ended up paying to get the vehicle fixed at Honda Dealer, and Honda Corporate refused to help us out at all, receiving an emailed reply that our vehicle is out of warranty and we should just consider this the normal cost of ownership. I decided it was time to file a complaint after seeing even brand new CR-V's are being recalled for steering issues as well now. It seems clear there is widespread issues with many Honda Vehicles and has been for years and Honda isn't doing the right thing and fixing dangerous steering on ALL affected vehicles, and seems to still be building models with the problem!
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-06
- VIN: 7FARW2H92JE

The systems resets after you turn the car on & off at least 5 times but the issue always reappears. Error codes P0172 & P219C have been detected during the issue. The dealer replaced the fuel injectors to remedy the issue.

You got exactly what you were expecting! It's great to hear that you're getting an average of 30 mpg, even with city driving and interstate driving. While you're enjoying your ride, you mentioned that you would appreciate ventilated seats and a gap in the bottom spoke on the steering wheel. These are great suggestions that Honda could consider for future models. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with us!

I recently traded in my 2009 Audi A4 for a new vehicle that had modern safety features without breaking the bank. Overall, I'm happy with my choice, but there are a few areas of disappointment. The CR-V has a radar located in the center of the front grille that is used for the automated braking feature and assistive cruise control. Unfortunately, it doesn't work well in heavy precipitation, and it only prevents head-on collisions. Additionally, visibility over the driver's right shoulder is minimal, which is not ideal for safety. Lastly, the new Hondas don't come with a CD player, which some owners find troubling. However, there are still plenty of options to play music externally, such as through an MP3 player or other device.

My former vehicle, a Honda Odyssey, provided great service for ten years, but it was time for a change. The CRV's handling and technology are excellent, and I no longer require a larger vehicle with three row seating. Despite some noise, I am confident that I made the right decision. In fact, the CRV's handling saved me from a head-on collision with an F250 truck. Overall, the CRV is a great car, and I am satisfied with my purchase.

This car is not only easy to get into and out of, but it's also a blast to drive! The road ahead is always visible and the added safety features are exactly what I was looking for at this stage of my driving career. The car is incredibly comfortable, and I can really feel the lumbar support in my back. Plus, the turbocharged engine gets me onto the highways quickly and safely. Overall, I highly recommend the Honda CR-V to anyone in the market for a new car!

We previously owned a 2009 Honda Pilot Touring, which we decided to trade after 168,000 miles. Since our children were grown and on their own, we no longer needed the cargo/interior space that the Pilot offered. We opted to downsize to the CRV, which our daughter has been driving for several years, and we were already familiar with it. We are very impressed with the 2018 model, which is a vast improvement over the 2007 model our daughter has. After 10,000 miles, we have experienced great fuel economy, plenty of acceleration, and overall top quality. We were not aware of the fuel/oil dilution problems that have been reported by some owners in colder climates before the purchase, but we have had no issues with ours. Perhaps being produced mid-year in 2018, this model does not have that problem. I check the oil frequently and have not detected it being overfull or having any fuel odor. The servicing dealership has assured me that if this should become a problem, they and Honda will provide a remedy to correct this or any other issues that may arise. Even though the new CRV is smartphone/audio compatible, opting in for the factory navigation was a must for us as we felt we gave up nothing, other than the rear entertainment system, by trading the Pilot. We are only familiar with the EX-L trim version CRV but felt the additional upcharge for the Touring model and its few extra features was not necessary for our needs. We highly recommend this to anyone considering it.

We purchased our first Honda, a 2018 CR-V EXL AWD, in June 2018. Unfortunately, we soon discovered that the hands-free phone component had a lot of distorted background noise on the recipient's end of the call. Despite the dealer service department's best efforts, including replacing both microphones, updating the software, and pairing different phones with our vehicle and with ten (10) other new 2018 CR-Vs off their lot, the distortion persisted. We visited the dealer service department seven (7) times in three (3) months, but unfortunately, they were unable to find a solution. However, we were able to find a different dealer one hour away who confirmed the distortion noise with our vehicle and with four (4) other new 2018 CR-Vs of various trim packages off their lot. While there may be a software compatibility issue, we appreciate the efforts of both dealerships and Honda Corporate Customer Service to help us resolve this issue. We remain hopeful that a solution will be found in the future.

I am extremely disappointed with my 2018 CRV Touring. Despite a satisfactory test drive of 2-5 miles, the car began to emit a loud drumming/rattling noise after only 50 miles of driving. This issue is specific to the Touring model, as confirmed by the dealer. Given the high cost of $35K, I regret my purchase and caution potential buyers against choosing the Touring model. I purchased this car in November 2018 and have found the comfort and control to be good so far. On the day I came to pick up the car, the salesman had trouble setting up the radio with Sirius, which was frustrating. However, my son-in-law was able to set it up for me. I have noticed that the voice command only works for contacts and not for numbers outside of my contacts list, which can be inconvenient. I went back to the dealership yesterday to show the same salesman the issue, and he acknowledged that my car was not working when he tried to call his own cell phone. We checked another new Honda CRV on the lot and found the same problem. Although the salesman was dismissive and said that it doesn't work in any of the CRVs, I expressed my concern that this is a defective voice recognition system that needs to be corrected. I am curious to see what happens, but overall, this has been a frustrating and disappointing experience.

Took my car in for state inspection and suddenly the dash went crazy with everything blinking. Unfortunately, all systems failed inspection. The car was perfectly fine the day before. I called the dealer and they said 'oh this happens...bring it in, we'll reprogram'. I got in the car to go to the dealer which was only 1 1/2 miles down the road and suddenly the issue cleared up. Thankfully, the car passed inspection the next day. It can be frustrating when these things happen, but I'm glad it all worked out in the end!

At 5000 miles, I had the oil changed because it was black. However, approximately 2000 miles later, the SUV almost stalled on me 3 times on the highway. I immediately checked the oil and found that it was already black and smelled like gasoline. I contacted the dealership to make an appointment, but they claimed they had never heard of this problem before. Despite this, I managed to drop off the SUV for them to look at it when they could. After a week, I called for an update and was informed that they were working on it for two days but could not find anything wrong. However, they did perform a computer update that had been released 5 days ago for the stalling issue. They also changed the oil, even though they claimed that the black oil wasn't an issue. They wanted to keep the SUV for one more night to test drive it, but I was assured that there was nothing wrong. The next morning, I was informed that they test drove it and it still had the stalling issue. They will have to keep it until at least Monday when they can get a hold of HQ. Despite this setback, I am confident that Honda will have an appropriate update mid-November. I am hopeful that this issue will be resolved soon.
