The Honda CR-V (also sold as the Honda Breeze in China since 2019) is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by Japanese automaker Honda since 1995. Initial models of the CR-V were built using the same platform as the Civic.

Honda began producing the CR-V in Sayama, Japan, and Swindon, United Kingdom, for worldwide markets, adding North American manufacturing sites in East Liberty, Ohio, United States, in 2007; El Salto, Jalisco, Mexico, in late 2007 (ended in early 2017); Alliston, Ontario, Canada, in 2012; and Greensburg, Indiana, United States, in February 2017. The CR-V is also produced in Wuhan for the Chinese market by Dongfeng Honda, and also marketed as the Breeze in China for the version produced at Guangzhou by Guangqi Honda.

Honda states "CR-V" stands for "Comfortable Runabout Vehicle," while the term "Compact Recreational Vehicle" is used in a British car review article that was republished by Honda, associating the model name with the Sports Utility Vehicle abbreviation of SU-V.

As of 2022, the CR-V is positioned between the smaller ZR-V (marketed as HR-V in North America) – which the CR-V shares platform with – and the larger North American market Passport/Pilot or the Chinese market Avancier/UR-V. It is currently Honda's best-selling vehicle in the world, and the second best-selling SUV globally in 2020.

Common 2019 Honda Cr-v problems

The 2019 Honda CR-V has been reported to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. One of the most frequently mentioned issues is related to the forward collision avoidance system. Owners have reported instances where the automatic braking system engaged when there were no cars or obstacles ahead of them, causing potential safety hazards.

Another problem that has been reported is related to electrical issues. Owners have reported premature dead batteries, loss of electric power steering, and engine stalls. These electrical problems can be quite inconvenient and potentially dangerous, especially if they occur while driving.

Oil dilution is another problem that has been reported by owners of the 2019 Honda CR-V. This issue occurs when fuel leaks into the crankcase where it mixes with the oil, raising the oil level too high and causing engine damage. This problem has been reported to occur specifically in 2019 CR-Vs with the 1.5L turbo engine.

Infotainment system problems have also been reported by owners of the 2019 Honda CR-V. Specifically, owners have mentioned both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay not working properly, with devices repeatedly disconnecting and reconnecting. Some owners have also reported issues with the power moonroof, including instances where it has exploded while driving, causing glass to fly all over the cabin.

Despite these problems, the 2019 Honda CR-V is still considered to be a reliable SUV, ranking seventh out of 22 compact SUVs. However, it is important for potential buyers to be aware of these issues and to consider them when making a purchasing decision.

Are there any issues with the 2019 Honda CR-V?

Owners report the automatic forward collision avoidance system deploying randomly, a variety of electrical issues, and infotainment system glitches. The 2019 Honda CR-V may experience a fuel leak that leads to an oil diluting issue, which also plagued past CR-V models.

What year CR-V has the least problems?

The second-generation CR-V receives praise for its excellent reliability. If you're looking for a more affordable used Honda CR-V then a second-generation vehicle could be the ideal choice. The 05 and 06 models in particular have very strong Honda CR-V reliability reviews.

Is Honda CR-V cheap to maintain?

No, Honda cars are not expensive to maintain. According to RepairPal, Honda owners pay about $428 per year for maintenance and repairs. This is much cheaper than the industry average of $652 per year.

Is the 2019 Honda CR-V quiet?

Both the hood and instrument panel are also insulated to help reduce engine noise. All of these refinements help ensure that the cabin of the CR-V remains quiet.

FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-10-10
  • VIN: 5J6RW2H58KA
  • Components: FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
  • Summary: I was driving 40Mph on a two way road, no cars in front of me. I was going straight when all of the sudden my car auto brake activated. Normally I’ll get the warning, where it goes “beep beep” and big orange text that says “BRAKE” pops up but most of the time that happens if there is a car in front of me, and maybe I am coming up on it a little fast. It’s never hit the brakes for me though. And it’s never gave me the brake warning when there is nothing in front of me. So I am driving at 40Mph, clear road, nothing in front of me that should set off the sensor when all of the sudden my car hits the brakes and gives me a huge shock. It was almost immediate, I didn’t even hear the beep beep or see the warning until after the brakes were activated. It only lasted a second or so and then I was able to continue driving but now I’m scared.

I have not contacted the dealership about this current issue because I plan to go to the dealership to do my oil change this coming Saturday 10/05/2024. Just an FYI, they still haven’t addressed my recall ( the 2017-22 fuel pump mtr saf recall exp2). At this time, no injury happened, but I am definitely scared of my safety using my car.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-05-01
  • VIN: 7FARW2H96KE
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: Issue: At speeds above 40 miles per hour there is resistance in the steering wheel. Although the resistance is in a narrow range, it increases with speed. Steering issues may cause a safety hazard. Dealer Diagnostic: Local Honda dealer performed a diagnostic and test drive and confirmed the resistance in the steering wheel. The dealer recommended replacing the Electronic Power Steering (EPS) gear box with an estimated cost of $3,770. It is my understanding that the 2017 and 2018 Honda CRVs were under a recall for this issue. My vehicle was manufactured in January 2019, and it had 34,435 miles when the dealer preformed it review on August 20, 2024. The Honda recall might not have completely correct the problem, and it should include additional model years.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • VIN: 7FARW2H98KE
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: Driving on the highway I eased to the left to change lanes and the steering wheel felt stuck. Once I turned a little farther it freed making the car oversteer to the left lane. There were no lights or warnings, and it has been doin the same thing since. The Honda dealer said my rack and pinion needed to be changed, but the problem is widespread and there are no parts available. This to me is a safety issue and I believe Honda should have a recall on these cars. Thank you.

STEERING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-09-19
  • VIN: 2HKRW2H52KH
  • Components: STEERING
  • Summary: After driving app. 10 min, at speeds above 30 mph. the steering becomes sticky. When the car starts going to the right you of course steer to the left, but you need a lot more force to turn the wheel. It makes a clicking sound when it jumps. My concern is that if it jumps too far into an opposing lane and causes an accident. I'm use to it but it seems to be getting worse. Because of this I won't let anybody else drive the car. I am making an appointment with dealer but after reading the reviews it doesn't seem hopeful.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2024-03-01
  • VIN: 2HKRW6H38KH
  • Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: Bought 2019 Honda CRV in August 2023. If you unlock by fob and then hit and hold unlock within 30 seconds all windows open. I parked CRV last 2 snowstorms last spring, did not realize that fob(in pants pocket inside house) had opened all windows and car filled with snow, 2 other times seats were drenched from rain. Besides buying 2 more fobs initially, now had to spend another $120 for a chipped non fob key. Besides weather, this can allow animals or thieves easy access without your knowledge. 2020 and newer Hondas they added a disable function in vehicle menu. Honda needs to be forced to do a recall to fix this, have been told other manufacturers also do this idiocy, what are they thinking of??

Negative 2019 Honda Cr-v car reviews

  1. Damian Beer 2024-11-08

This is my 2nd Crv. The 2008 drove like a dream and I turned it in this past April for a new one. However, I have been experiencing some issues with my new car. The rear camera doesn't seem to be working and there have been a couple of recalls. Unfortunately, the paint also seems to be quite sensitive and chips easily. I am a bit disappointed with my purchase, but I am hopeful that these issues can be resolved soon.

  2. Stanley Jerde 2024-09-07

I sent it back to the dealer three times because it wouldn't start after sitting for two days. Despite their initial inability to diagnose the issue, I persisted and brought it back five times. Finally, they discovered a programming error and fixed it. Since then, the car has been running smoothly. I remain cautiously optimistic about its performance in the future, but for now, we are very satisfied with the vehicle.

The windows of my car keep rolling down on their own, even though I am not pressing anything. It's quite concerning as my keys are upstairs where I work, and my car is parked quite far away. This has happened three times already, and it's always very dark when I leave work to go to my car. I am worried about my safety and the safety of my vehicle. The dealer suggested that I shouldn't keep my keys in my purse, but I carry a wristlet so that doesn't apply to me. I am not sure where else to keep them. I am also hesitant to keep anything in the car. Unfortunately, I am quite unhappy with my purchase of the 2019 CR-V LX AWD, as it had not even undergone an oil change before I bought it with only 1,700 miles. As a customer, I feel quite unsafe.

My 2018 CRVEX had gas in the oil, which my personal mechanic warned me would cause slow damage. Despite complaining about a whirling noise and overfilling, Honda and the service department were unresponsive. However, after shopping around, I confidently decided to replace it with a CRVLX. I am extremely satisfied with my decision, as the new CRV LX is problem-free and I no longer have to worry about being stranded on the side of the road. Although I miss the bells and whistles of my old car, the peace of mind is a fair trade-off.

My experience with the 2019 Honda SUV has been less than satisfactory. The air vents are poorly located and the middle console obstructs the driver's view. The ergonomics of the driver's seat are not proper, causing the driver to sit cockeyed and with a twisted back. The pedals are too far to the right and left, requiring the driver to search for them and making it difficult to properly position the left leg. Additionally, the cargo space with the soft shelf is a waste and took away useful space. The carpet in the SUV exl is shoddy and unravelling. The upfront space is non-existent and the middle console is awkward and useless. The settings for features do not hold for cruise control, radio, and seating, requiring constant resetting of controls. These issues need to be addressed to improve the overall driving experience.

I recently purchased a 2019 Honda CRV EX and I am extremely satisfied with my decision. In the past, I leased a 2017 Buick Encore which unfortunately had some issues with the engine block. However, I have not experienced any such issues with my new CRV. It is spacious, handles well, and has great fuel efficiency. As someone who has owned and leased several Hondas, I can confidently say that they are the most reliable cars on the market. While some reviews on this site may be misleading, I urge you to consider the excellent reputation of Honda. The CRV has many pros, including comfortable seats, great handling, and a good sound system. The back seat legroom is also impressive, and the low-speed cruise control is a great feature. The only cons I have noticed are that the infotainment system can be a bit slow and it would be nice to have presets for AM/FM/Satellite stations. If you are deciding between Honda and Subaru, keep in mind that Subaru has a good reputation, but they have had some issues with their flat 4 engine and fuel injector leakage. Overall, I highly recommend the Honda CRV EX.

Hi there! I noticed that you recently purchased a CRV after owning 3 Honda Civics. I think it's great that you're impressed with the roomy interior and are looking forward to great fuel economy and road handling in winter weather. I also appreciate that you chose the base model for its simplistic gauges and controls as well as the price. It sounds like you got a fair deal and I hope the value holds up for you. I understand that you've noticed a little extra road noise with the base model, as it isn't insulated as well as the next levels. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice with your purchase!

This car was purchased for my Mom who is 80 years young. It took her a few driving lessons to feel comfortable driving the car due to all the technology. However, after learning to drive it, she has a twinkle in her eye that I have not seen in quite some time! She absolutely loves the CRV and we believe that all the gadgets will help her be a safer driver at her age. She particularly enjoys the backup camera, the lane assist, and the car's ability to alert her when something is behind her. Seeing her enjoy owning and driving this CRV has brought me so much joy!

Roominess was my main concern when choosing a car that my elderly parents could access safely. One of my parents is 92 and the other is 89, so it was important to find a car that could accommodate them comfortably. As someone who is 6'2

I purchased my Honda CRV EX about a month ago, after trading in my 2012 Jeep Compass that was giving me problems. I am absolutely in love with my new car! The difference between the two is like night and day. Initially, I was considering the base level LX, but the additional features of the EX model at such a reasonable price made it an easy decision. The dealership was fantastic, providing me with the best car buying experience I've ever had. The agent spent half an hour with me, showing me how to program the auto headlights, sunroof/moonroof, and syncing my Bluetooth and Android smartphone. With over 1,000 miles on it now, I find the dashboard display very user-friendly. The only thing I found a little confusing was how to adjust the temperature, as the manual wasn't very helpful. The gas mileage is excellent, and I haven't experienced any issues with dead batteries or oil leakage. I am thrilled with my Honda CRV EX SUV! UPDATE: I have now owned the Honda CRV for 1 1/2 years, and I still love it. However, during a major snowstorm in December, my car got stuck twice in only 5 inches of snow. While I love my car in every other way, I don't feel safe driving it in conditions with 5 inches of snow or more.
