Toyota Corolla problems

The Toyota Corolla (Japanese: トヨタ・カローラ, Hepburn: Toyota Karōra) is a series of compact cars (formerly subcompact) manufactured and marketed globally by the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla was the best-selling car worldwide by 1974 and has been one of the best-selling cars in the world since then. In 1997, the Corolla became the best-selling nameplate in the world, surpassing the Volkswagen Beetle. Toyota reached the milestone of 50 million Corollas sold over twelve generations in 2021.
The name Corolla is part of Toyota's naming tradition of using names derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans, with "corolla" Latin for "small crown". The Corolla has always been exclusive in Japan to Toyota Corolla Store locations, and manufactured in Japan with a twin, called the Toyota Sprinter until 2000. From 2006 to 2018 in Japan and much of the world, and from 2018 to 2020 in Taiwan, the hatchback companion had been called the Toyota Auris.
Early models were mostly rear-wheel drive, while later models have been front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive versions have also been produced, and it has undergone several major redesigns. The Corolla's traditional competitors have been the Nissan Sunny, introduced the same year as the Corolla in Japan and the later Nissan Sentra, Nissan Sylphy, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer. The Corolla's chassis designation code is "E", as described in Toyota's chassis and engine codes.

Toyota Corolla 2021
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-23
- Date Complaint: 2024-10-25
- VIN: 5YFS4MCE1MP
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Apparently my car's Engine Coolant Bypass Valve is broken and it's a common case with my car's model that's made after 2020. Seems like it there's a need a recall for such a thing since it's a defective part they knew about since my car was screaming at me for an engine maintenance. However, the check engine wasn't on. I went to Toyota at Elk Grove, CA and knew what the issue was pretty quick and charging me $700 to get it replaced. I feel like it's intentionally being handled poorly so they keep charging me 700 every few years to replace a $80 part. As well my story is very common with other customers of Toyota Cars made after 2020. I wanted to report this since that's potentially harmful to put out a car that could have engine problems easily. Especially it's a fairly newer car. Also, they have yet to replace the part for the known recall on this vehicle.

- Summary: The AC compressor is failing as it’s blowing hot air at idle or when the vehicle is running at 20-40mph. During Texas hot summers, baby & toddlers are at risk for extreme heat as the AC blows hot/warm air. The problem has been reproduce at an automotive AC shop where they have inspected the AC for leaks, vacuumed refrigerant and replaced refrigerant. Still same issues without any leaks. Police or insurance has not been involved. There are no dash lights when this happens and the issue happens daily which started 3 years ago. The vehicle is driven less because of the issue. There is a TSB T-SB-0086-14 that says this is covered within 36k mile warranty or 3 years. I bought the vehicle with 48K miles and about 2 years later the AC blows hot air at idle.

- Summary: I was in a car accident .A woman failed to yield at a stop sign and rammed into the front of my car at a high accelerated speed. I was restrained but the right side of my forehead hit the rearview mirror .causing two huge knots on my head. My eye glasses also smashed into my right eye and I had a cut above my eye .I was thrown to the right passenger seat area , my right hip hit the gear shift and my knees and hip , were bruised. Apparently the seatbelt failed as well , but my main complaint is that the airbags failed to deploy. I suffered damage strain and bruising to both hands, the left was worse , I was made to wear a brace . I was taken to the ER via ambulance . One of the officers assumed I wasn’t wearing a seatbelt , which was not true at all . He thought I hit the windshield but I did not , it was the mirror . I have proof , photos and all EMT and ER records report that I was restrained . A paramedic helped me remove the seatbelt to exit my car . I feel I wouldn't have suffered the head, eye and other injuries if the airbag had deployed.

Toyota Corolla 2024
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-30
- Date Complaint: 2024-09-30
- VIN: JTDB4MEE1R3
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: This is an issue I have noticed with my car shortly after I bought it. The problem is that the car has a noticable delay in acceleration when accelerating from a complete stop. After doing some research online, I found that the cause was the car's CVT transmission, and that a delay in acceleration happens with other cars with CVT transmissions as well. This could be potentially dangerous especially when making right turns on a red light or when making unprotected lefts on a green, as the window of opportunity to go is sometimes short in those situations, and delaying for even a second could mean the difference between a collision or a safe turn (especially since there are some fast drivers that go much past the speed limit and will appear from behind a hill all of a sudden). What is especially problematic is that the car will rarely accelerate normally when I press the pedal, but I would say around 80-90% of the time, the car will have a delay about 1 second before it actually starts moving. To my knowledge, this problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center. I bought the car brand-new about half a year ago so it shouldn't have any problems. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone, and there were no warning lights or any other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure. I didn't really notice that this car had this problem when I first drove it home from the dealership because I was not used to so many other aspects of the car, but after I got more used to driving it, I realized that the delay in acceleration wasn't normal.

Vehicle year: 2010
My 2010 Corolla has 200k miles on it and it has never needed any engine or transmission work. I would not hesitate to drive this car from CA to NY. It is important to keep in mind that this is a low entry level Toyota and it was not designed with extra frills for this year. Therefore, you should not expect brand new Lexus (or even Toyota) performance and comfort. However, it is a great, reliable, and dependable car that provides excellent value. It is also fuel-efficient and low maintenance, which means you won't have to see your mechanic often. Overall, it is a real bang for your buck!

Vehicle year: 2000
This car is a great choice if you're looking for something that's not too big or too small, as the passenger space is just right. The newer model is even better. The fuel mileage is a clear advantage, with 30-40 mpg. I was pleasantly surprised by the impressive stereo system and the well-thought-out ergonomics, although the cup holder could be better designed. However, there are two things that are quite annoying: the locks and the lights. Unfortunately, you can't turn off the lights unless the engine is off, and the car automatically locks even if it's not in gear.

I love my 2000 Toyota Corolla VE! It's small enough to easily navigate through traffic and handles really well. It's also a great money saver. Although it burns oil and I have to refill it every few hundred miles, I still feel at ease knowing that this car is incredibly reliable. As we all know, the Japanese make some of the best cars out there.

Vehicle year: 2001
Last week, my fiance noticed the low engine light on the car and asked me to check it. I found that the car had less than a quart of oil left, even though she had driven it for around 200-300 miles without telling me. Despite this, I was amazed by the quality of Toyota cars, as the engine did not blow up! Although the rest of the car may be boring, I now appreciate it for its toughness.

I bought my car from a used dealer back in 2009 when it had 137k miles on it. Now, 4 years later, it has 230k miles and it's still going strong! It's great on gas and I've never had any breakdowns, just regular oil changes and fluid management. I've even taken it from Toronto (401 and VP) to Niagara on only 6-7 tanks of gas. Some of my friends may say it's not the prettiest car out there, but I love it just the way it is!

Vehicle year: 2024
I recently purchased a 2023 Corolla at the end of June 2023, after being involved in a car accident that totaled my 2020 Corolla. While driving my new car home, I noticed a rattling sound, which persisted the next day on my way to work. I took it to the dealership, but unfortunately, the issue was not resolved. They have asked me to bring it back in for further inspection, which is frustrating as I don't want to spend my weekends at the dealership. Additionally, the car's system has been buffering, which is concerning as it could cause me to miss an exit. I understand that purchasing a car is not like buying a pair of jeans, and I don't want to be paying for a brand new car that seems to have used car problems. I miss my 2020 Corolla and the great deal I was able to get on it. While I am not satisfied with the current situation, I am hopeful that I will have options once I am able to trade it in.

I got my Corolla back in 2004 when I moved away to college. It had 114k miles on it at the time. Although it may not be the most stylish or sporty car out there, it has been incredibly reliable, especially compared to the 1984 Grand Prix it replaced. With 170k miles on it now, I've only had to replace a few things like the radiator, shocks/springs, and strut mounts, in addition to regular maintenance like oil changes, tranny fluid, tires, and brake pads. The radiator was still working fine, but I decided to replace it just to be safe. The gas mileage is great, with 24 city/32 highway, although I know the newer Corollas have even better technology. While it may not be as good as a civic hatchback, it's still a great car. Mine has a 4 gear auto tranny.

I bought this car about 5 years ago (it was already 8 years old) just for basic transportation for a year or two until I could get something better. However, surprisingly, I can't seem to let it go. It's not the prettiest or most comfortable car, but it does the job and never breaks down. In fact, it's the best car I've ever owned!

Vehicle year: 2001
I bought my 2001 Corolla used in 2003 with 40k miles and it has been my primary car ever since. I have had no major engine problems, unlike some others who have reported issues. Although my catalytic converter was replaced at 115k, I have done all the maintenance by the book and have had no major problems. The only significant repairs I have had were brake issues that were my fault due to overly aggressive city driving. I am not sure about burning oil, as I know little about cars, but I have not noticed any issues. This car gets better gas mileage than the current Corolla models, and I once drove from Pittsburgh to Indianapolis on one tank.

I recently purchased a 2020 Corolla SE, but unfortunately, I noticed several waves in the windshield. Despite contacting the dealer service and Toyota corporate, they claimed that this is a normal occurrence in all similar models and is not considered a defect, therefore not covered by warranty. I would advise potential buyers to check for this non-defect during their test drive. If it is something that you cannot live with, it may be worth considering other options. Additionally, I found that road noise was also a factor that affected my overall rating of this vehicle.
