2008 Toyota Corolla problems
The Toyota Corolla (Japanese: トヨタ・カローラ, Hepburn: Toyota Karōra) is a series of compact cars (formerly subcompact) manufactured and marketed globally by the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla was the best-selling car worldwide by 1974 and has been one of the best-selling cars in the world since then. In 1997, the Corolla became the best-selling nameplate in the world, surpassing the Volkswagen Beetle. Toyota reached the milestone of 50 million Corollas sold over twelve generations in 2021.
The name Corolla is part of Toyota's naming tradition of using names derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans, with "corolla" Latin for "small crown". The Corolla has always been exclusive in Japan to Toyota Corolla Store locations, and manufactured in Japan with a twin, called the Toyota Sprinter until 2000. From 2006 to 2018 in Japan and much of the world, and from 2018 to 2020 in Taiwan, the hatchback companion had been called the Toyota Auris.
Early models were mostly rear-wheel drive, while later models have been front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive versions have also been produced, and it has undergone several major redesigns. The Corolla's traditional competitors have been the Nissan Sunny, introduced the same year as the Corolla in Japan and the later Nissan Sentra, Nissan Sylphy, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer. The Corolla's chassis designation code is "E", as described in Toyota's chassis and engine codes.

Common 2008 Toyota Corolla problems
The Toyota Corolla is a popular and reliable vehicle, but like any car, certain model years have specific issues that owners have reported. One common problem with the 2008 Toyota Corolla is the engine using excessive oil.
Another problem with the 2008 Corolla is jerky acceleration when pulling away, which is usually caused by a malfunctioning fuel pump. This issue can be resolved by replacing the fuel pump with a new one, which is readily available at a low cost and is relatively easy to install.
The 2008 Corolla may also experience high revs and clutch slip, which is a sign of a problem with the clutch, often caused by aggressive driving over a long period of time. In this case, the entire clutch system, including the clutch plate, needs to be replaced.
Additionally, some 2008 Corolla owners have reported a clanging noise from the front of the car while driving, which is usually due to worn bushes in the front McPherson bar and the anti-roll bar. This issue may require repairing the whole suspension, but in some cases, a replacement McPherson bar and a new anti-roll bar may be sufficient.
Lastly, the 2008 Corolla may experience steam coming from the front of the car, which is often caused by a failed water pump, particularly in the Verso model. If left untreated, this issue can cause significant damage to the engine, so it's essential to replace the faulty water pump as soon as possible.
In summary, the 2008 Toyota Corolla has several common problems that owners have reported, including excessive oil consumption, jerky acceleration, high revs and clutch slip, clanging noises, and steam from the front of the car. These issues can be resolved by replacing faulty parts with new ones, which are generally available at a low cost and are relatively easy to install.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-19
- VIN: 2T1BR32E28C
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: The plastic fuel tank has a heat shield below it that keeps the fuel tank from getting too hot, and from debris hitting it. There is a strap that goes around the fuel tank. The heat shield has this plastic piece that holds on to the strap. On my car, this plastic piece snapped off and the heat shield was rattling loose against the exhaust pipe and exposing the fuel tank. I took my car to a Toyota dealer (Glen Mills, PA) and was told the only way to fix that plastic piece is to replace the whole heat shield and fuel tank strap. Even though this was due to their defective piece. I was told it would be $950 for this repair. I was forced to deny the repair due to the obscene price tag and took it to a dealer for a temporary fix until Toyota can be reasonable with their price. Upon further research, this plastic piece is known to break off on this type of car frequently. After watching many videos and going through many forums of people having the same issue, it seems Toyota is known for charging an outrageous price for this. To me, it appears they know this piece is defective and will be recalled at some point, and are trying to make money off of unsuspecting people. I would appreciate this being investigated further.

The contact indicated that upon the vehicle's impact, the air bag did not immediately deploy and was delayed contributing to the rib injuries sustained. A police report was taken at the scene. The vehicle was destroyed and towed away. The cause of the failure was not determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The local dealer was not notified. The failure mileage was 168,841.

WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM

- VIN: 1NXBR32E88Z
- Components: WHEELS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: MULTIPLE TIMES MY CAR HAS SLID ON THE PAVEMENT UPON AN ABRUPT STOP. DEER IN MY TRAVEL ROUTES ARE ABUNDANT. BUT ON JUNE 2, 2020 I HEARD A NOISE AS I WAS DRIVING. IT APPEARED TO BE A SUSPENSION PROBLEM. I PULLED OVER AND INSPECTED THE CAR. THE TIRE HAVING OVER HALF IT'S TREAD THREW A BELT OR HAD A HUGE BULGE IN THE TIRE. IT WENT FROM A NOISE TO A LOAD GRUMBLING SOUND AND A LOT OF VIBRATION VERY QUICKLY. THE SLIDING WAS ONGOING AND I ASSUMED BECAUSE THE CAR WAS SMALL AND LIGHT BUT NEVER HAD THIS SLIDING EFFECT FROM MULTIPLE OTHER SMALL CARES I'VE OWNED. THEN THE TIRE BULGE. I RESEARCHED THE TIRE AND IT APPEARS COOPER TIRE HAS MAJOR ISSUES WITH THEIR TIRES BUT THIS TIRE SIZE I DID NOT SEE AS A RECALL. (MST P185/65R15 MC STRATEGY BW 88T(N)) IF I WERE ON THE INTERSTATE I COULD HAVE LOST CONTROL OR FLIPPED THE CAR AT A FAST SPEED. SPEED LIMIT WAS 45MPH WHERE THE TIRE SEPARATION HAPPENED. I'M NOW SCARED TO DEATH TO EVEN THINK OF USING A COOPER TIRE. I CAN ONLY IMAGINE THAT AS A NOVICE DRIVER THIS WOULD CAUSE MULTIPLE ACCIDENTS. FORTUNATELY I HAVE DRIVEN PROFESSIONALLY FOR MULTIPLE YEARS AND KNOW TO PREPARE FOR THE EXTRA 20 FEET OR MORE SKID THAT IS NOT PREVENTABLE WITH THESE TIRES WHEN STOPPING ABRUPTLY. THE TIRE WERE PROFESSIONALLY INSTALLED JULY 2, 2012 WITH 23126 MILES ON THE ODOMETER. NOW MILES ARE 46184. I CAN PROVIDE PICTURE AND TIRES PURCHASE RECEIPT IF NEEDED. *TR

2008 Toyota Corolla recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 6 recalls for different components of the 2008 Toyota Corolla.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Lexus' numbers for this recall are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2003-2008 Corolla, 2005-2008 Corolla Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a front passenger air bag assembly replaced under a prior recall. The air bag may not unfold as designed during inflation under high temperature conditions, possibly resulting in the air bag not inflating properly.
- Consequence: An improperly inflated air bag increases the risk of injury during a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly or sub-assembly, free of charge. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's numbers for this recall are K1Q and K0Q. Pontiac owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is N192273760.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain model year 2008-2010 Lexus SC vehicles manufactured August 3, 2007, to July 30, 2010, 2008 Toyota Corolla vehicles manufactured May 25, 2007, to December 21, 2007, 2008 Toyota Corolla Matrix vehicles manufactured June 1, 2007, to December 18, 2007, and 2008 Pontiac Vibe vehicles manufactured June 1, 2007, to January 2, 2008. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: The recall began on March 25, 2016 for Toyota and Lexus vehicle owners. The recall began on June 23, 2016 for GM owners. The respective dealers will either replace the front passenger air bag inflator or the entire front passenger air bag assembly depending on the model. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331, or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. This recall expands recall 15V-285.

The affected vehicles have a passenger side frontal air bag that may be susceptible to moisture intrusion which, over time, could cause the inflator to rupture upon its deployment.
The recall began on June 8, 2016 for GM owners. The respective dealers will either replace the front passenger air bag inflator or the entire front passenger air bag assembly depending on the model. Overall, you have a great car! Although, it seems like the ride can be a bit bouncy on side streets at slower speeds. We also have a small car, a Focus, and it has a smoother ride.

Hi there! I recently purchased this car after owning a 2000 Corolla and I must say, I was impressed from the moment I opened the door! I opted for the S model, which not only looks great, but also has plenty of room inside and sits a bit higher than my old Corolla. While I have noticed that the acceleration can be a bit sluggish once the car has warmed up, especially when entering freeways, I still think it's a great value for those who are environmentally conscious and looking to save money on gas. Plus, the car feels a lot sturdier than the 2000 model - just close the door and you'll feel the difference!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my car. I've had it for a couple of years now and it's been great! It has around 100K miles on it, but I've only had to do some routine maintenance like oil changes and brake replacements. While it may not be the most stylish or exciting car out there, it definitely gets the job done and reliably gets me from point A to point B. I'm not sure how long I'll keep it, but I do think it's a great long-term investment that you won't regret. I did have a bit of a scare with the check engine light, but it turned out to be a simple fix - just needed a piece cleaned. Overall, I have no complaints and feel really happy with my purchase!

I've been driving this car for 6 months now and I absolutely love it! The ride is so smooth and the gas mileage is fantastic, averaging about 35 mpg combined city and highway. Plus, it looks awesome! I've heard that the Camry has been having some quality control issues lately, but the Corolla (at least this bodystyle) has been incredibly reliable. As for the engine, it's a 1.8 4-cylinder, but I installed a K&N air filter and it really boosted the power. The acceleration is great and you almost forget you're driving a 4-cylinder. If you're looking for something faster, you might want to consider the 3.5 V6 in the Camry! But for me, the 1.8 is the perfect combination of gas mileage and performance. Fun fact: it's the same engine that Toyota used in the Celica GT (2000-2005).

This is my 3rd Toyota and I'm really enjoying it! The Corolla S has a sporty look and feel, and while it may not have the most powerful engine, it more than makes up for it with great fuel economy. When you close the doors, you can feel the quality of the car. The only downside is that the steering wheel can be a bit awkward and uncomfortable on long drives. But overall, I'm very happy with my purchase so far!

I've owned this car for almost 3 years now and while it's been reliable, I have to admit it's a bit plain and boring. I remember laughing at the people lining up for gas with their huge vehicles when gas was $4.00 per gallon and I was still cruising on the same tank I had for 2 weeks. However, I do have a bit of a lead foot and usually only get around 28 mpg, which is a bit less than I expected. One thing I don't like is feeling afraid that I won't be able to merge quickly enough. The 1.8L engine is a bit laggy and leaves something to be desired. Unfortunately, when the condenser went on my AC, it wasn't covered by the extended warranty, which was a bit of a letdown and expense. Overall, this car gets me from A to B and starts up every morning.

I purchased this car at the end of 2007. Unfortunately, I experienced some issues with the car's acceleration and brakes, which was quite scary and almost caused an accident. However, I took it in for a recall and the check engine light issue was resolved. The car occasionally had trouble starting, but this was also addressed. Additionally, there was a leaky brake, which the mechanic explained was due to a flaw in manufacturing. The car has approximately 53,000 miles on it and the exhaust pipe rusted through right before the muffler. Other minor issues include the backseat headrests obstructing the view out the back window, and the trunk cover freezing in the winter. Overall, I was hoping for a more reliable car and was disappointed with these issues.

At only 14520 miles, my brand new Toyota Corolla has developed a popping clunking noise from the brakes whenever I take off from park position or after I have reversed the car and apply brakes. Despite the dealership telling me it's a normal noise, I disagree. This noise is not present in previous year models of the Toyota Corolla. However, I must say that other than this noise, my Corolla runs great, achieving 28 mpg in town and 325 miles to a tank of gas of 12.5 gallons.

I purchased my Corolla brand new and have experienced some issues since the first month of ownership. The tire pressure light illuminates every time there is a slight change in temperature, despite the PSI being correct. The service department informed me that it was a faulty sensor, and they were unsure if it would be covered by warranty. Additionally, there have been some recalls, which is not uncommon for any manufacturer. During my 30k mi. service, the service department discovered that my water pump was leaking, which was covered by warranty, and my drivetrain belt required replacement. I chose to purchase a new Toyota to avoid frequent issues while still making payments.

When I first purchased this car, I knew it would be primarily for practical purposes such as commuting to school, work, and running errands. Although it has served me well for the past 2.5 years since I bought it brand new, I have grown a bit tired of its lack of excitement and the engine's struggle to accelerate and reach higher speeds. However, it is a very reliable car that has never given me any issues in the 20,000 miles I have driven it. It is also quite fuel-efficient, allowing me to go for up to two weeks without needing to fill up. Overall, it has been a great car for my needs and I appreciate its dependability and efficiency.
