The Toyota Corolla (Japanese: トヨタ・カローラ, Hepburn: Toyota Karōra) is a series of compact cars (formerly subcompact) manufactured and marketed globally by the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla was the best-selling car worldwide by 1974 and has been one of the best-selling cars in the world since then. In 1997, the Corolla became the best-selling nameplate in the world, surpassing the Volkswagen Beetle. Toyota reached the milestone of 50 million Corollas sold over twelve generations in 2021.

The name Corolla is part of Toyota's naming tradition of using names derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans, with "corolla" Latin for "small crown". The Corolla has always been exclusive in Japan to Toyota Corolla Store locations, and manufactured in Japan with a twin, called the Toyota Sprinter until 2000. From 2006 to 2018 in Japan and much of the world, and from 2018 to 2020 in Taiwan, the hatchback companion had been called the Toyota Auris.

Early models were mostly rear-wheel drive, while later models have been front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive versions have also been produced, and it has undergone several major redesigns. The Corolla's traditional competitors have been the Nissan Sunny, introduced the same year as the Corolla in Japan and the later Nissan Sentra, Nissan Sylphy, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer. The Corolla's chassis designation code is "E", as described in Toyota's chassis and engine codes.

Common 2007 Toyota Corolla problems

The Toyota Corolla, a popular compact car, has had some issues reported by owners over the years. Here are some of the most common problems with the 2007 Toyota Corolla, based on owner complaints:

  • Excessive Oil Consumption: One of the most common issues with the 2007 Toyota Corolla is excessive oil consumption. This problem is often associated with the 1.8L engines and can be caused by the EVAP system. If not addressed, this can lead to engine damage due to lack of oil.
  • Check Engine Light: The check engine light can appear on the 2007 Corolla, especially on higher mileage vehicles. This is often due to the EVAP system, and the solution is to check the condition of the EVAP system.
  • Transmission Problems: Some 2007 Corollas have reported transmission failure, which can be expensive to fix. The average cost to fix transmission failure in a 2003 Corolla is $1,200.
  • Brake Issues: There have been reports of brake problems in the 2007 Corolla, including squealing brakes and brake concerns. However, these issues have been largely resolved in newer models.
  • Airbag Concerns: There were recalls over airbag concerns in 2004, 2005, and 2006 for the 2002-2007 Corolla models. It's important to ensure that any car you are considering has had the necessary work completed.
  • Gearbox Damage: There were recalls over possible gearbox damage in 2002 for the 2002-2007 Corolla models. Again, it's important to ensure that any car you are considering has had the necessary work completed.

While these issues can be concerning, it's important to note that Toyota generally has a good reputation for reliability, and many of these problems have been resolved in newer models. When considering a used Corolla, it's always a good idea to have any potential vehicle inspected by a trusted mechanic to ensure that it is in good condition.

  • Components: AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
  • Summary: I received a notification that our car had been recalled, so I made an appointment with Deluca Toyota in Ocala to have the recalled items only fixed. After they had the call for an hour and a half they tried to force me to have the Serpentine belt replaced. We just had the serpentine belt replaced a few thousand miles ago and it was fine when we brought our car in for an airbag recall. They didn't fix the airbag, because we wouldn't pay for them to replace our serpentine belt....that does not need to be replaced again this soon. Serpentine belts last about 100,000 miles so at 2-3 thousand miles it is fine. Toyota is a bunch of lying thieves.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-09-26
  • VIN: 2T1KR32E77C
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: I have been waiting over 2 years for this passenger side airbag recall to be remedied. I was told a remedy was available about a year and a half ago, but despite many calls and service appointments where I left the car with Toyota (they even kept my car for nearly 9 hours once), they always tell me they don't have the part available and that they will call me when it becomes available (they still haven't). I tried multiple Toyota service centers in my area with the same results. The airbag was already recalled previously and the remedy was to replace it with an airbag part that was also recalled, so in actuality it has probably been over 5 years since the original recall and after all this time my car still has an airbag inflator that may cause fire, injury or death. I paid for a car so I could use all of the available seating, and for most of my time owning it and for the foreseeable future I'm being told by Toyota not to use the front passenger seat. Totally unacceptable, regardless of parts shortage this shouldn't be a problem to bear solely by the vehicle owner, I have never been offered a loaner or anything to make up for the money I wasted on a car I can't use as advertised.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2021-04-02
  • Number Of Injuries: 1
  • Crash: 1
  • VIN: 1nxbr32e87z
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: The contact owned a 2007 Toyota Corolla. The contact stated while sitting in their vehicle parked, the passenger air bag exploded independently. The contact confimed that there was no impact for the air bag to explode and there were no warning lights at the time. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and repaired the passenger air bag. However, a month later the contact was at a stoplight when the vehicle behind rear-ended the vehicle and caused the contact to rear the vehicle in front of them. The air bags did not deploy. The contact's head hit the steering wheel, which caused injuries to their head, neck, and back. Medical treatment was at the scene and took the contact to the hospital by ambulance. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed by an independent mechanic and then towed to a local dealer who inspected the vehicle and deemed the vehicle a total loss. The contact's concern was that after doing some research they found out their vehicle had an open recall for the frontal air bags NHTSA Campaign Number: 19v741000 (Air Bags) that they believe their local dealer was aware of the recall but never informed which caused the failure. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximate 150,000.

  • Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
  • Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
  • Remedy: 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-285 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. Owners of these vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Negative 2007 Toyota Corolla car reviews

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that you mentioned some concerns about your Corolla CE Automatic's gas mileage and ride quality. While it's great to hear that you're happy with the car overall, I can understand how these issues might be frustrating. Have you considered checking the tire pressure or getting a tune-up to see if that improves the gas mileage? As for the ride quality, it sounds like the back suspension might be a bit stiff, but it's good to hear that the ride is acceptable with a full load. I hope this helps, and please let me know if there's anything else I can do to assist you!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Corolla. For the first year, I absolutely loved how smooth it felt while driving, it was like driving a big car! Unfortunately, something broke and the dealership has been having trouble fixing it. I'm a bit nervous to drive on the interstate now because even small bumps make me feel like I might lose control. At slower speeds, it's not the most comfortable ride unless the road is perfectly smooth. The dealership did replace the front struts, which seemed to help for a day or two. I just wanted to share my experience with you. Take care!

Hi there! I can totally relate to your experience with your Corolla. I remember going with my mom when she purchased hers new in '96, and then going with me when I bought mine new 10 years later. As a full-time student and full-time worker, I thought having a new car would mean no mechanical problems. Unfortunately, after the first two years, the car started falling apart. I had to replace the ECU, but the engine problems persisted. I've had some trouble with Toyota's customer service, as they seem to have a 'no code, no problem' policy. They apologize a lot that you 'are having problems', but that's the extent of their customer service. I'm really frustrated that my engine feels like it's about to fall out, and they refuse to acknowledge that their solution to the recall on my car has not solved the problems.

I purchased this car back in 2007 and unfortunately, it has not lived up to my expectations. I have experienced a few issues with it, such as the windshield leaking twice at 5000 and 10000 miles, and the brake lights going out, which I had to fix at my own expense. Additionally, it started making a strange noise during acceleration, and upon taking it back to the dealership, I was informed that there was a deformed hose leaking from the transmission at only 17000 miles. I also had to take it back at 22000 miles because the glove compartment was falling apart. Most recently, at 42000 miles, the check engine light came on due to the car jerking during acceleration. While there are a few other minor issues, these are the main ones. I am considering taking legal action against Toyota or requesting a refund.

I am dissatisfied with the quality of my 2007 Corolla. Despite purchasing the car new from the dealer, I have experienced several issues. The engine computer had to be replaced by the dealer, which is a common problem. Additionally, the automatic transmission still shifts roughly, despite the dealer insisting that it is fine. I have purchased an extended warranty as I anticipate the transmission failing soon. The suspension is also rough, causing me to feel every bump on the road.

Positive 2007 Toyota Corolla car reviews

I bought this car the same week the 2007 was available. It drives really well, even better than a Yaris. Plus, it's more affordable than a Honda Civic or an Altima. If you're looking for a car that's perfect for your family and commuting to work, this car is amazing! The acceleration is good and the fuel economy is great. If I had to give this car a grade on a scale of 1-10, it would definitely be a 9.8.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my Toyota Corolla. I purchased it back in January of 07 and I have to say, it's been nothing but great! Not only is it excellent on gas, but it's also very easy and comfortable to drive. I drive 17 miles each way to work and my Corolla has been a lifesaver when it comes to saving money on gas.

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with this car since I noticed that reviews on this site can be quite varied. Personally, I've had a great experience with it so far. I've driven 62,000 miles without any issues at all! In the city, I get an average of 32 MPG (even with some green light burnouts on my mad dash to work), and on the highway, I usually get around 37 MPG. I do tend to drive a bit aggressively by Corolla standards, but I always make sure to perform the recommended service every 5,000 miles, including more elaborate and expensive service at 30k and 60k. I've already replaced the belt, and while there is a pending engine control module recall, I haven't had any problems yet. Lastly, I replaced the OEM Goodyear Integrity tires at 40k with Michelin HydroEdge, which I highly recommend for this car!

My parents bought their 07 Corolla brand new from the dealer with only 10 miles on it back in January 2007. We still have this car and it's currently July 2021, so I believe I am qualified to share our experience with you. We have driven this car for easily over 400,000 miles. I don't know the exact number because the odometer stopped at 299,999 miles about 7 years ago, but I'm very confident we are easily over 400k miles on it. The original engine died at 215k miles, but we bought a used engine that allegedly had 110k miles for $700, and spent another $700 for an auto shop to drop the new engine in the Corolla. Aside from tires, oil changes, and transmission drain and refills, we have only had to replace the shocks once, and that was recently (around 350k miles). The catalytic converters have both failed, but that was at 300k miles, so still not bad. Honestly, not many cars can boast about this level of reliability. Never in my life has this little Corolla left us stranded, except when the engine died at 215k miles and once when I killed the battery using the stereo. LOL. Yes, this car is slow, and in a way, it's not the most aesthetically pleasing, but having this car at the end of the day has pulled me through hard times when my Corvette broke down. At a time when my cars wouldn't run and were broken down on jack stands or in the mechanic shop, my parents let me borrow their little bad boy Corolla and it kept running and running, and then running some more. It may not be the car that every little kid aspires to drive when they grow up, but at least it's reliable. If you're thinking about buying this car, just go for it!I want to let you know that while it may not be the most visually appealing car in my opinion, it is definitely reliable and gas efficient. Additionally, it is easy to drive due to the great visibility when switching lanes or using the rearview mirror. Although the speakers may not be the best, overall it's a great car!

This is a fantastic and reliable vehicle with great gas mileage. In the 4 years that I have owned it, I have never experienced any major issues. The only problem I had was taking it back to the dealership to fix the molding on the roof, which had become unbent.
