2015 Toyota Corolla problems

The Toyota Corolla (Japanese: トヨタ・カローラ, Hepburn: Toyota Karōra) is a series of compact cars (formerly subcompact) manufactured and marketed globally by the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla was the best-selling car worldwide by 1974 and has been one of the best-selling cars in the world since then. In 1997, the Corolla became the best-selling nameplate in the world, surpassing the Volkswagen Beetle. Toyota reached the milestone of 50 million Corollas sold over twelve generations in 2021.
The name Corolla is part of Toyota's naming tradition of using names derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans, with "corolla" Latin for "small crown". The Corolla has always been exclusive in Japan to Toyota Corolla Store locations, and manufactured in Japan with a twin, called the Toyota Sprinter until 2000. From 2006 to 2018 in Japan and much of the world, and from 2018 to 2020 in Taiwan, the hatchback companion had been called the Toyota Auris.
Early models were mostly rear-wheel drive, while later models have been front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive versions have also been produced, and it has undergone several major redesigns. The Corolla's traditional competitors have been the Nissan Sunny, introduced the same year as the Corolla in Japan and the later Nissan Sentra, Nissan Sylphy, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer. The Corolla's chassis designation code is "E", as described in Toyota's chassis and engine codes.

Common 2015 Toyota Corolla problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2015 Toyota Corolla, several common problems have been reported:
- CVT Transmission Issues: The Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) in the 2015 Corolla has gathered complaints, with issues like engine rpms aggressively fluctuating between gear shifts, lack of acceleration, hard shifts, and occasional unpredictable behavior. Some owners reported the car lunging forward or backward without warning, causing damage. Toyota issued a Special Service Campaign for the CVT, offering replacements for Corollas manufactured between April 2013 and July 2017.
- Electrical Problems: Owners have reported various electrical issues, including a glitchy infotainment system freezing or powering off randomly, failing door lock actuators, and blindingly bright HID low beams. Additionally, some owners have experienced power steering failure, with reports of loss of power steering when in motion or unexpected locking up.
- Check Engine Light Issues: The check engine light can appear on the 1.8L engines due to problems with the EVAP system, especially on higher mileage vehicles. This issue may require addressing the EVAP system and checking its condition to prevent potential engine damage.
- Other Minor Problems: Some other minor issues reported include noisy front wheel bearings, suspension problems at higher mileage, and occasional issues with the infotainment system. Water penetrating into front doors causing speaker corrosion and the need for speaker or harness replacement has also been noted.
These problems highlight the importance of thorough inspections before purchasing a used 2015 Toyota Corolla and staying informed about potential issues to ensure a reliable driving experience.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-28
- Number Of Injuries: 2
- VIN: 2T1BURHE2FC
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: As my husband + I were driving home on the open highway Friday night (no vehicles nearby, nor debris on the road)…we heard popping/shattering sounds. As my husband (who was driving) looked up, it rained sunroof glass shards all over our faces, eyes, hair, back seat, front seat…everywhere. This was completely out of the blue, no warning lights or anything out of the ordinary. Minus the fact that the sunroof literally shattered and we’ve never had not one issue with our car. It’s been amazing for the entire time we’ve had it, so this was extremely bizarre. We pulled over immediately at a rest stop close to where we were to assess everything. I have photos and videos of the sunroof damage, as well as debris + bloody cuts on my head. It’s a good thing we didn’t have kids in the back + a miracle it didn’t drive us off the road because I had glass powder/shards in my eyes etc. We could have gotten into a way worse accident had my husband not have had his glasses on to protect his eyes. I did some research + it looks like this has happened quite a bit to car owners over the years. Same bizarre experience of their sunroof just randomly shattering while driving, or even while their car was sitting in their driveway. There is also a class action lawsuit: Gamez, et al. v. Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A. Inc., et al., Case No. 4:23-cv-00262 regarding their panoramic roofs suddenly shattering. There are videos and tweets all over social of sunroofs shattering like this too. Toyota hasn’r assessed it yet, but I have a call tomorrow with the Corporate Liability team. Hoping they‘ll do the right thing + loan us a car while they replace + repair my sunroof, including an interior detailing as there is glass everywhere in the car. SO disappointed that this hasn’t been a recall/liability issue Toyota has confirmed. It seems as if these bigger corps like to gaslight the car owners into thinking it was their fault or a rock. Very upsetting altogether and extremely dangerous.

TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-08-24
- VIN: 2T1BURHE4FC
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: We had four brand new Goodyear Assurance All-Season tires installed by our regular mechanics (Harper's Farm BP, Columbia, Maryland) on August 23, 2021. The very next day our son was driving on I-83 near Harrisburg, PA en route to Ithaca, NY when the rear driver's-side tire completely failed. The tread separated from the sidewalls and was left on the highway somewhere. (See uploaded photos.) Fortunately, he kept control of the car, but there was something wrong with this tire. I do not expect a one-day old tire to fail so completely in this way. Maybe he hit a nail on the highway and lost some air pressure, but I would expect him to have a flat tire, not an exploded tire. We had the tire replaced at Derry Auto & Tire in Harrisburg, PA the next day. I have attached receipts from both repair shops to document the dates.

I purchased this car from Hertz rental company when it had 45,000 miles on it for $12,500. I have been the owner since October 2016 and have driven it for 79,500 miles. This car has excellent gas mileage and I use it for both city and highway driving. I take good care of it and maintain it regularly, and so far, I have not experienced any problems (knock on wood). The only issue I have with this car is the windows, especially the front one, which can be blurry and have spots with bubbles. I plan to replace it with a new one, but not from Toyota. Additionally, the headlights are not as effective when driving downhill. Although I wish the radio system was more advanced, it still gets the job done. Overall, I highly recommend this car as it offers great value. I have had nothing but positive experiences with Toyota.

I've been driving this car for a couple of months now and I'm really happy with it. The design style is great and it's very fuel efficient. I have the S model which has a performance option, although the small engine means it won't feel truly sporty. However, when I put it in Sport mode, the engine revs higher between gears when I hit the gas, which is a lot of fun. The default mode is economy, but I prefer the Sport mode. I haven't reset the fuel economy gauge yet, but over the first 2,200 miles, I've achieved a little over 29 MPG, even with mainly city driving here in Miami where traffic can be a real pain. Overall, I'm really pleased with this car!

I recently needed to replace my 2013 Prius C, and when Toyota offered to end my lease early for another Toyota vehicle, I decided to take a look. I had been researching the new Corolla, which comes with features my Prius C didn't have, such as fog lights, a rear camera, and heated mirrors - all important here in New England. I took an LE Plus for a test drive and was pleasantly surprised by the acceleration and handling. While it might not be a Mazda 3, I've put almost 4k miles on it, including a 1500-mile trip mostly on the highway, and I can't complain about my average of 44mpg combined. I'm not a lead foot, but getting that kind of highway mileage while keeping up with the flow of traffic is pretty good, considering my Prius C only got 46-48 highway and my wife's full-size Prius gets about 53. It's not unusual to get 50 on our country roads and state highways. The Corolla is comfortable for larger people, and there is plenty of interior room - even the back seats are comfortable. In terms of performance, reliability, comfort, and trunk space, with the added benefit of Toyota's always spectacular gas mileage, I have no complaints. While it may not be the sportiest car out there, and it may have less room than some others, it performs well in most categories. It's an above-average car that provides reliable and comfortable transportation at a reasonable price, with exceptional mileage thrown in as a bonus. It may not be the car for those with the most discriminating tastes, but for the rest of us, it's exactly what we were looking for - and that's how and why Toyota designed the Corolla the way they have.
-
I love my little 4 cylinder! It does everything I need it to do and has great gas mileage. The acceleration is excellent. I sold my SUV for better gas mileage and I'm getting 38 mpg in town. I love driving it and have no complaints. It's a great buy for the price and quality.

This is my second Corolla that I've owned, my first was a 2011 LE Corolla. There are many improvements over the last generation car, but none bigger than the new CVT transmission they switched to. The CVT transmission has the right amount of kick to get you where you're going, making it a quick and zippy ride. For a small 4-cylinder with no added turbo, this car is impressive. My last gen Corolla had a glitch with its transmission that would cause it to hesitate around 45-55 mph; luckily the new transmission gives no such problems and runs like a dream. The style of the car has also been revamped in this new generation, giving it a tad more muscle while also keeping its femininity. The interior is also improved in this generation, with the material being more stain-resistant and sturdy. The new gen also has an increased wheelbase from front to back, giving back seat drivers a little more legroom to work with. Even the tallest of guests will find comfort in the back seat. The steering is tighter than in previous generations and the car has improved handling and grip. The addition of automatic climate control is very nice, and Toyota has improved their sound systems that come with their base models. Overall, the new Corolla is better than its predecessor, and you won't find a more reliable car at this price. Plus, with the support Toyota has behind this vehicle, it's definitely a car you can be proud to own.

We purchased a 2015 Toyota Corolla a year and a half ago. The previous owner had done routine maintenance, and we have continued to do so as well, including regular oil changes and tire rotations. Unfortunately, last week the check engine light came on with no other symptoms, and when we took it to the mechanic a couple of days later (after not driving it at all after the light came on), the car overheated a few minutes away from the mechanic. We initially thought it was a simple radiator issue, but we received a call the next day informing us that it was a blown engine gasket and that the car needs a new engine. Although our mileage is under the 60,000 warranty, we are 6 weeks outside the 5-year timeframe, so Toyota will not provide any assistance with the replacement. Even the dealership mechanics were shocked that this happened and that Toyota is refusing to provide any goodwill coverage, given that we are under the mileage and barely outside the time limit. The factory Toyota supervisor was sarcastic and unhelpful when we asked what could be done. We are disappointed with Toyota's response and will be considering other options in the future.

If you're considering purchasing this car, we recommend taking a test drive at night without using high beams and going downhill. We've noticed that half of the windshield can be completely dark, and sometimes the whole windshield. We understand that this can be concerning, and we encourage Toyota to address this issue. We appreciate Toyota's commitment to their customers and hope that they will take the time to test drive the car at night to see what is happening.

I have always considered the Corolla to be the most reliable car out there, and it still is. However, the safety of the car is now questionable. The issue is that where I live, we have hills and a lot of deer. Unfortunately, the headlights on this car were not designed with this in mind. On low beam, which is LED, the headlight lens has a black plastic 'eyelid' over the top of the lens. This means that when you go down a hill, your sight lines are cut off to only about 50 feet ahead. It is very disconcerting and beyond that 50 feet, it is absolute blackness. It is like a solid black curtain that drops down. This makes it impossible to see if anyone or anything is approaching from the ditch onto the highway. You absolutely have no idea what's ahead, it's like driving blindly. When you put the headlights on bright, a halogen lens will kick in and you will have a slightly better sight line which gradually fades away. If I had test driven this car at night, there is absolutely no way that I would have ever bought this car. The previous Corolla that we had was one of our favorites, along with the Camry that we had. These headlights should be recalled as they pose a serious danger.

My son recommended that I get a Toyota. However, within two weeks of getting my 2015 Toyota Corolla, I began to experience discomfort and pain in my lower body. After a month of driving my car, I visited my chiropractor and explained my hip, knee, and ankle/foot issues. He asked if I had bought a Toyota, and I was surprised that he knew. He explained that the seats do not provide the necessary support for the body to function well. Getting out of my car feels like a challenge. Unfortunately, my son is also experiencing the same issues with his 2015 Toyota. While the car is pretty, I cannot say that I love it due to the discomfort it causes. It is interesting to note that we are not the only ones experiencing these issues. If you are also experiencing pain and discomfort while driving your Toyota, you are not alone. I am considering trading in my car as Toyota has compromised comfort for looks.

The car has great gas mileage, achieving 35MPG with mostly highway miles. The entertainment console is easy to use even while in motion. However, the car is not suitable for anyone 6' or taller, as it is too small and uncomfortable. Additionally, it is not ideal for families larger than 2, as there is not enough room for a rear-facing car seat and a passenger. The car's steering and handling are not up to par, as it tends to float and pull to the left or right at highway speeds. It is also not recommended to drive in snow, rain, or wind, as it can be dangerous. Overall, I am currently in search of a new car and may consider returning this one.
