2005 Toyota Corolla problems
The Toyota Corolla (Japanese: トヨタ・カローラ, Hepburn: Toyota Karōra) is a series of compact cars (formerly subcompact) manufactured and marketed globally by the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla was the best-selling car worldwide by 1974 and has been one of the best-selling cars in the world since then. In 1997, the Corolla became the best-selling nameplate in the world, surpassing the Volkswagen Beetle. Toyota reached the milestone of 50 million Corollas sold over twelve generations in 2021.
The name Corolla is part of Toyota's naming tradition of using names derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans, with "corolla" Latin for "small crown". The Corolla has always been exclusive in Japan to Toyota Corolla Store locations, and manufactured in Japan with a twin, called the Toyota Sprinter until 2000. From 2006 to 2018 in Japan and much of the world, and from 2018 to 2020 in Taiwan, the hatchback companion had been called the Toyota Auris.
Early models were mostly rear-wheel drive, while later models have been front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive versions have also been produced, and it has undergone several major redesigns. The Corolla's traditional competitors have been the Nissan Sunny, introduced the same year as the Corolla in Japan and the later Nissan Sentra, Nissan Sylphy, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer. The Corolla's chassis designation code is "E", as described in Toyota's chassis and engine codes.

- VIN: 2T1KR32E35C
- Components: AIR BAGS,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: These 3 things may be related to each other because they all are connected to the steering wheel. My car can be scheduled for an inspection regarding these safety problems. 1. The Airbag warning light is sometimes on when I drive the car. I'm worried it won't work if I'm in a wreck. 2. The horn doesn't work when I press on the part of the steering wheel that should make it work. It does make a loud sound when I press the panic button on my key fob, but only when the car is turned off. I had to stick my head out of the window and yell at a driver who was getting close to hitting my car in a parking lot. I was parked, and they were backing out of their parking stall. They stopped inches away from my car. 3. The cruise control does not work in the car. I think by using this feature, and maintaining a steady speed, it reduces the chances of accidents. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? See answers #1, 2 and 3 above. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed? #1. No. A dealer told me it would cost me $100 to have them check the airbag light. #2. The horn was checked by an independent service center. #3. No. Has it been inspected? #1. This car has been serviced two different times for recalls for the airbag not working correctly. I wonder if the horn and cruise control wires were damaged, or not put back together correctly, when the recall work was being done, while owned by my sister-in-law. #2. No. #3. No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? #1. The warning lamp for the airbag started coming on around August 15, 2024. #2. No. It didn't work on February 11, 2023 - when I bought the car. #3. No. It didn't work on February 11, 2023.

- VIN: 1NXBR30E55Z
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: My 2005 Toyota Corolla airbags have been recalled AT LEAST TWICE already(?) and I have been to the dealer at least twice, for airbag recall repairs. Guess what? The red dashboard airbag light came on AGAIN! I took the 2005 Corolla to the Toyota dealer and the dealer announced that I have to pay for the latest airbag warning ️ dashboard light problem. Since the airbag is an obvious “problem area” for Toyota, and I never have used the airbags…I feel this latest “airbag problem” should be fixed, by Toyota for free. Toyotas infamous and repeated “airbag problem’” has reappeared… yet again! I don’t have the exact date and time the airbag warning light reappeared (again) and there was never an accident where the airbags were deployed, or a certain speed at which the warning light suddenly comes on. The airbag warning light is on 99% of the time. I also don’t have the mileage at which the airbag warning light reappeared (again) but there is currently approximately 146,000 miles on the 2005 car. Since I have NEVER USED the 2005 Corollas airbag and Toyota has a systematic, widespread, & REPEATEDLY fixed problem with this airbag, I wonder why should I have to pay for airbag repairs?

SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-09-10
- VIN: 1NXBR32E35Z
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: I purchased my vehicle in May 2020. Since that time, there has been a noise that occurs when I apply the brakes. In March of 2021 I took my car to American tire shop where they charged me $1900 to supposedly fix an issue with the rear suspension 'arm,' but also stated it required more work and suggested it was a safety issue. The noise is still there and I fear potential safety issues but can not afford thousands of dollars in 'supposed' repairs.

- Summary: I submitted my 2005 Toyota Corolla to Priority Toyota in Springfield, VA where they replaced my airbag on 9/05/2019 per the initial recall notice. The airbag light subsequently came back on after installation. When I returned it to the same dealer, they told me it was not related to the recall and that I’d have to pay to get it fixed. I took my vehicle to another certified mechanic for a second opinion. That mechanic determined it is a defect in the recall replacement airbag mechanism installed or the installation itself and advises me to take it back to the recall servicer dealer. Priority of Springfield has refused to honor the recall or acknowledge the defective equipment or improper installation on the 9/05/19 recall and remedy the defective recall equipment or service warranty they performed. The defective airbag replacement installed by the recall dealer Priority of Springfield is defective, inoperable and must be replaced or installation corrected OR be provided new equipment and installation at no charge per the 11/15/19 Safety Recall E04 - For Areas of High Absolute Humidity - UPDATE . I was told by NHTSA when I called to request my vehicle be added to the subsequent recall list for replacement again. It is not in the best interest of consumer safety that owners should be forced to bear the cost of replacing defective recall replacement airbags or Re installation of recall replacement airbags improperly or negligently installed by authorized Toyota dealers. Additionally, my vehicle is subject to Safety Recall E04 - For Areas of High Absolute Humidity - UPDATE published 11/15/2019 applicable to owners of vehicles originally sold in, or currently/previously registered in, areas of High Absolute Humidity, including Alabama and Georgia, both states in which my car was previously registered. I need NHTSA assistance in obtaining compliance by a local Toyota dealer in honoring this recall update pertinent to my vehicle. - Summary: I took my vehicle for the airbag recall. When the technician gave me my car back I noticed the airbag warning light was still on. The technician said the warning airbag light is something else but he could not say what. Please add additional recalls to fix passenger airbag. But he said “the light was on before the recall” and I would have to pay to find out what the warning is for. I waited 2 hours for the recall work to be finished and when I entered my car the warning light was still on. This vehicle has not been in an accident. This situation I read in the reviews online is happening to this car and many complaints. I feel unsafe and I think all possible recalls should be put in place for this to be taken care of by Toyota. It is dangerous and it is a liability. Please help me get this resolved with AutoNation Toyota in Winter Park. - Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2010-2016 4Runner, 2003-2006 Tundra, 2003-2013 Corolla, 2009-2010 Corolla Matrix, 2004-2005 RAV4, 2002-2007 Sequoia, 2011-2013 Sienna, 2008-2012 Scion xB, 2008-2009 Lexus IS-F, 2007-2012 Yaris and Lexus ES350, 2010-2017 Lexus GX460, 2002-2010 Lexus SC430, 2006-2012 Lexus IS250 and IS350 and 2010-2015 Lexus IS250C and IS350C vehicles. These vehicles had their driver or passenger frontal air bag inflators previously replaced under a prior recall using inflators of the same design. The inflators may explode due to propellant degradation occurring after long-term exposure to high absolute humidity, temperature and temperature cycling.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front driver inflator, front passenger airbag inflator, the airbag assembly, or the front passenger airbag sub-assembly and inflator. The recall began November 20, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371 or Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987. Toyota's numbers for this recall are J0A, J0B, and J0C. Lexus' numbers for this recall are JLI, JLJ, and JLK.
- Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL:PASSENGER SIDE:INFLATOR MODULE
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2003-2008 Corolla, 2005-2008 Corolla Matrix, and Pontiac Vibe vehicles equipped with a front passenger air bag assembly replaced under a prior recall. The air bag may not unfold as designed during inflation under high temperature conditions, possibly resulting in the air bag not inflating properly.
- Consequence: An improperly inflated air bag increases the risk of injury during a crash.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag assembly or sub-assembly, free of charge. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371. Toyota's numbers for this recall are K1Q and K0Q. Pontiac owners may contact GM customer service at 1-800-762-2737. GM's number for this recall is N192273760.

- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) is recalling certain 2002-2005 Lexus SC and Toyota Sequoia, 2003-2005 Toyota Corolla and Tundra, and 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with certain air bag inflators assembled as part of the passenger frontal air bag modules used as original equipment or replacement equipment. In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger frontal air bag, these inflators may explode due to propellant degradation.
- Consequence: An inflator explosion may result in sharp metal fragments striking the driver or other occupants resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: Toyota will notify the Toyota and Lexus owners. General Motors will notify the Pontiac Vibe owners. Depending on the vehicle model, dealers will replace the front passenger air bag inflator with an alternate inflator, or replace the air bag assembly that includes an alternate inflator, free of charge. The recall began January 23, 2019. Owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-888-270-9371, Lexus customer service at 1-800-255-3987 or Pontiac customer service at 1-800-762-2737. - Manufacturer: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: Toyota Motor Engineering & Manufacturing (Toyota) notified the agency on May 13, 2015 that they are recalling certain model year 2004 Sequoia vehicles manufactured August 18, 2003, to August 19, 2004, and 2003-2004 Tundra vehicles manufactured March 18, 2003, to August 25, 2004. On June 16, 2015, Toyota expanded the recall to include an additional 1,270,468 vehicles, including model year 2002-2003 and 2005-2007 Sequoia, 2005-2006 Tundra, 2003-2007 Corolla, 2003-2007 Corolla Matrix, 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe and 2002-2007 Lexus SC vehicles. This is to address a safety defect in the passenger side frontal air bag inflator which may produce excessive internal pressure causing the inflator to rupture upon deployment of the air bag. This recall addresses both the passenger side frontal air bags that were originally installed in the vehicles, as well as replacement air bags that may have been installed as replacement service parts. A replacement air bag may have been installed, as one example, if a vehicle had been in a crash necessitating the replacement of the passenger side frontal air bag.
- Consequence: In the event of a crash necessitating deployment of the passenger's frontal air bag, the inflator could rupture with metal fragments striking the vehicle occupants potentially resulting in serious injury or death.
- Remedy: 2003-2004 Corolla and Corolla Matrix vehicles that are recalled under both 15V-043 and 15V-285 are under a Do Not Drive advisory. Owners of these vehicles are advised not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. Toyota will notify their owners. Pontiac Vibe owners will be notified by GM. Dealers will replace the front passenger air bag. The recall began on July 13, 2015. Toyota owners may contact Toyota customer service at 1-800-331-4331. Pontiac owners may call 1-800-762-2737. NOTE: This recall supersedes recall 14V-312 in its entirety.

Wow, it's so great to hear about your experience with your 2005 Corolla! It sounds like you've had a lot of vehicles over the years, but this one really stands out as the most reliable. It's amazing that you were able to drive it for 178k miles before needing any repairs - very few cars can perform that well! And even when you did need a repair, it was just the intake manifold gasket, which I hear is a common issue with this car. It's also impressive that you've been able to average 35 mpg in 65% highway driving. It's no wonder you handed it down to your son and it's still going strong with 182k miles. Toyota really seems to have perfected this vehicle!

This car is the best in its class for performance compacts. It has very good performance, great build quality, great resale value, and good safety (with side airbags). I considered the Nissan Sentra (reliability problems) and Honda Accord (price problems), but this car was the clear winner. While the Corolla S didn't have enough power for me, and was impossible to find with ABS, the XRS could use more power at low RPMs, but still has plenty for day-to-day driving. The engine

It's great to hear that you found the perfect vehicle after a long search! Although, during the inspection, you noticed a few drips of oil under the oil pan. The salesperson assured you that it was from the recent oil change, but after keeping an eye on it for a few weeks, you decided to take it to a nearby Toyota dealership. Luckily, the manufacturer warranty covered the replacement of a leaking spot weld in the oil pan, and now the car is running smoothly! It's great to hear that the car has good handling and reliability, and that you've only had to change the oil and rotate the tires. Thanks for sharing your experience with us!

I bought my Corolla new in 2005 and still drive it daily 12 years later. It has worn well with few repairs needed, probably totaling about $1800 the entire time I have owned the car. I take good care of my vehicle so it will continue to run and that could have added to its intense reliability but overall, I think it's the best vehicle my husband and I have ever owned.

These things are awesome! The 6-speed is the best part about it. I wish the rims were a little better looking, but overall, this thing rocks.

I purchased this car new in 05 and about 5,000 mile ago the rattling around the driver and passenger windows and door and dash (front and rear) has become unbearable. However, I am confident that I can resolve this issue and restore the car to its former glory. My daily drive will soon be a pleasant experience once again.

Although my experience with my brand new Toyota car was not ideal, it is important to note that every car can have its own unique issues. I had some concerns with the dash becoming loose and the side panel popping out, as well as wind noises from the front passenger window. While I was initially told that this was normal, I later found out that my brakes and front tire needed replacement. Despite these challenges, I understand that Toyota has a reputation for producing high-quality vehicles and I am confident that my experience was an exception rather than the norm. While I may not purchase another Toyota in the future, I would still recommend the brand to others based on its overall reputation and quality.

At 34,000 miles, my car started making a screeching sound and shifting roughly. After taking it to the dealer, I was advised to change the transmission fluid and belt, which cost me $312.00. Although I have had Ford and Pontiac cars in the past and never had to make these types of services until 100,000 miles, I am confident that I made the right decision in getting my Corolla serviced. I believe in Toyota's commitment to quality and will continue to be a loyal customer.
