2022 Toyota Corolla problems
The Toyota Corolla (Japanese: トヨタ・カローラ, Hepburn: Toyota Karōra) is a series of compact cars (formerly subcompact) manufactured and marketed globally by the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla was the best-selling car worldwide by 1974 and has been one of the best-selling cars in the world since then. In 1997, the Corolla became the best-selling nameplate in the world, surpassing the Volkswagen Beetle. Toyota reached the milestone of 50 million Corollas sold over twelve generations in 2021.
The name Corolla is part of Toyota's naming tradition of using names derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans, with "corolla" Latin for "small crown". The Corolla has always been exclusive in Japan to Toyota Corolla Store locations, and manufactured in Japan with a twin, called the Toyota Sprinter until 2000. From 2006 to 2018 in Japan and much of the world, and from 2018 to 2020 in Taiwan, the hatchback companion had been called the Toyota Auris.
Early models were mostly rear-wheel drive, while later models have been front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive versions have also been produced, and it has undergone several major redesigns. The Corolla's traditional competitors have been the Nissan Sunny, introduced the same year as the Corolla in Japan and the later Nissan Sentra, Nissan Sylphy, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer. The Corolla's chassis designation code is "E", as described in Toyota's chassis and engine codes.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-15
- VIN: 5YFS4MCE8NP
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: When traveling via highway at approximately 60 MPH, the right front tire struck a small pothole. The vehicle continued driving normally until stopping at a light. Thereafter, the front right wheel started making rhythmic vibration noises while vibrating extensively, transferring to the steering wheel. Upon visual inspection, nothing appeared wrong. After driving several miles, the vibration died down to a small trickle and now remains along with humming at faster highway speeds. This imitates a broken wheel bearing that occurred on the left front tire, but the Toyota dealer has refused to acknowledge any issue let alone inspect it. This sudden - yet entirely associated with driving - impact clearly caused damage to the wheel bearing and will accelerate its failure. If this occurs at such a rate the bearing fails upon contact with such driving conditions, drivers may lose ability to control their car altogether. A similar issue occurred and was remedied by the dealer for the left wheel. This could be a design flaw resulting from placing too large of tires and too stiff suspension for the Corolla, resulting in mechanical damage whilst driving in normal conditions, which could lead to the failure of steering related mechanical components. The end result of which could be death. Such theories have not been investigated. No warning lamps displayed at any time.

As a result, the vehicle collided with a semi-truck on the passenger side of the vehicle. The collision with the semi-truck sent the vehicle careening, clipping another passenger vehicle before coming to a complete stop on the shoulder of the roadway. The air bags did not deploy. No warning lights were illuminated. A police report was filed, and injuries were reported. An occupant of the other passenger vehicle bumped her head in an undisclosed location, and the contact was unaware if medical treatment was sought. STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-15
- VIN: JTDEAMDE1NJ
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: My daughter was driving yesterday when the steering wheel locked suddenly. She was sideswiped by another vehicle that hit the wheel well and forced the steering to work again. The occupants of the other vehicle did not pull over so she drove on to my work where she broke down crying and explained what happened. I took the car in yesterday to diagnose any issues with the car and was told that this is a feature that Toyota has when the car hits something like a pothole at faster speeds. My daughter could not have been going terribly fast considering it was 5:00 p.m. in Los Angeles on Olympic Blvd. during the height of rush hour; however, most concerning is I was told that according to diagnostics this is the third time the car had done this due to "aggressive acceleration". They told me that the jolt from the other car hitting the wheel well must have reset the sensor so the steering wheel could start working again. They said this is a normal safety feature on all Toyota hybrids. I asked for more clarification on what exactly we should do to prevent this happening in the future and they said to accelerate slowly so the sensor has time to keep up. This seems like an incredibly unsafe feature. I emailed Toyota's corporate office for clarification but received nothing to date. I am extremely nervous to drive my car and especially to have my 16 year old daughter drive it! I do have the diagnostic printout the Toyota Service Department gave me yesterday and am happy to share if you would find it useful.

We had the chance to drive a slightly older Corolla for about a month before this 2022 model arrived, so we got to know it quite well. It handles nicely on both back roads and highways, and we feel very safe thanks to the numerous safety features. The overall mileage was even better than expected. While some of the modern car features are a bit excessive for our needs, we appreciate the smart-key entry and ignition, the dashboard information display with current mileage and outside temperature, the speed limit monitoring, the interior climate controls, the leather-wrapped steering wheel, the blind spot monitor, the cruise control radar, the central analog odometer with digital readout, and more. The cabin noise is a bit louder than expected, but it doesn't interfere with conversation. The lights are more than adequate, ensuring excellent visibility to other drivers. Overall, the car is very comfortable to ride in under various circumstances.

The Toyota Corolla has been around for 56 years since 1966 and has undergone many changes in that time period. When the first Corolla was sold back in the spring of 1968 in the United States, it initially did not have as many features compared to the latest generation. However, the Corolla is now a great car for many reasons, including its great value, safety features, driving experience, comfortable seats, and low road noise. I highly recommend taking the Corolla into consideration. From the front of the car, you can see the beautiful DRL (daytime running lights) that make an aggressive appearance cutting through the darkness. When you open the hood, you will find a 2.0 liter inline four-cylinder engine integrated with a CVT (continuously variable transmission) that provides great fuel economy of 31 city and 40 highways. The Corolla is getting a great fuel economy for not being a hybrid car, which is perfect if you are not too sure about electric cars. Sitting in the car, you will notice that the Corolla has pleasant leather seats that hold you in and great heated seats to keep you warm in colder weather. I personally had a 13-hour drive from Georgia to Texas and did not feel discomfort in that drive. I love how the seats hold you in around corners and still have a lot of room in the back seats for my guests. The Corolla has an 8-way power adjustable seat to find the most comfortable position. The safety tech in the Corolla is outstanding. The lane keep assist helps the driver to stay in their own lane, reducing the chance of an accident. Furthermore, the lane keep assist helps with advanced cruise control, which means the car can almost drive itself. The Corolla is jam-packed with features, including radar, so it can see how far a car is in front of the Corolla. When the Corolla detects a car, it can slow down or stop if needed. The Toyota Corolla is an excellent choice for those looking for an affordable and capable car. It comes packed with features such as apple car play/android auto, Wi-Fi, Allstar, and remote start, which make the driving experience amazing. The smooth ride with great suspension, heated seats, and LED headlights add to the luxury driving experience. What's more, the value of the car is amazing, considering all the features, comfort, and reliability it offers. With an MSRP of only 26,000, it is a great value compared to its competitors. The Honda Civic touring, for example, costs 4,000 more than the Corolla. The Toyota Corolla is a reliable car that provides excellent value, safety, comfort, features, and driving experience. It is a great option for those looking for an affordable and capable car.

I wanted to share my thoughts on the 2021 sedan in LE trim that I had the pleasure of driving for a week as a work rental. Having previously driven a 2022 Nissan Sentra in SV trim, as well as owning a 2018 Mazda CX-5 and 2023 Nissan Leaf, I feel qualified to make some comparisons. While the Corolla is a decent option for basic transportation, I personally wouldn't purchase one in this trim for a few reasons. Firstly, it lacks some basic safety features that are now standard in most vehicles, such as blind spot monitoring and rear cross traffic alert. Secondly, the CVT engine can be quite noisy and inconsistent in terms of acceleration and responsiveness. Finally, real world fuel economy can be affected by city traffic, and in my experience, I averaged about 26-27 mpg in a mix of city and highway driving with frequent delays in the Boston metro area. Despite these drawbacks, the Corolla is still a solid choice for those in need of a reliable vehicle.4) The Sentra had a slightly better ride quality compared to the Corolla. 5) The Corolla in this trim still uses an old-school key in ignition, which is less common these days. This means no keyless entry like the other vehicles I am comparing to, which is surprising given that keyless entry is fairly standard these days. 6) The touchscreen seemed to be outdated, with low contrast and brightness, making it frustrating to use. It was often unresponsive to touch and laggy. Higher trims may have better features, but basic safety features like blind spot monitoring should not require an upgrade. The lane departure warning is coupled with steering assist/lane tracing assist, which can only be toggled on and off with a steering wheel button. Unfortunately, the system did not work well and was overly sensitive, making it annoying to use. The steering assist was also poorly executed, steering aggressively on curves instead of easing into them like most people would in normal driving. If these issues do not bother you, then the Corolla may still be a good option, but other comparable vehicles have better execution.

I recently rented Corolla from Toyota dealer for a week and received a brand new car. The car drives nicely, has good build quality (no squeaks, rattles, wind noise), has good suspension and adequate breaks. However, when driving on highway, you can't help noticing that the engine is weak and it is hard to stay in the left lane. Virtually all competitors now offer more powerful engines with base models for the same price or less. Toyota still carries on with 20 years old 1.8 liter engine in base model.
Kolby Kovacek 2024-10-01
Under sprung, underpowered, and a noisy interior were my three major takeaways. If you're looking for good fuel economy, this car is a great choice. However, I couldn't find any other compelling reasons to make a purchase.

I purchased a 2022 Toyota Corolla and noticed a gap underneath the passenger headlight and bumper after 3 months of use. I promptly took it back to the dealer, who then took it to the body shop for adjustment. Although the car was returned to me 2 days later, there was still a small gap present. Despite being informed that this was the best that could be done and that it was a result of Toyota's manufacturing process, I am considering trading it in.

I recently leased the 2021 Corolla SE with the upgraded JBL stereo system. Unfortunately, the back speakers stopped working within just 2 days. When I contacted the dealer, they suggested that it might be an issue with my iPhone and advised me to reset it without syncing my contacts. I was confused and frustrated by this response, especially since I have a $1000 phone and a $26,000 car that should work seamlessly together. After speaking with Apple, I learned that Toyota needs to release a firmware update to make the iPhone compatible with the car. While I'm disappointed with this situation, I must say that the car is otherwise okay. I have noticed some sluggishness when accelerating quickly, but it seems to handle well in the snow. If you're considering the Corolla, I would recommend going with the Honda Civic or Kia instead. And if you do decide on the Corolla, I wouldn't bother paying for the upgrade. Overall, I'm quite unhappy with my experience so far, but I'm hopeful that Toyota will be able to resolve the issue. I've been on hold with them for 20 minutes now, but I'm sure they'll be able to help me soon.
