2000 Toyota Corolla problems
The Toyota Corolla (Japanese: トヨタ・カローラ, Hepburn: Toyota Karōra) is a series of compact cars (formerly subcompact) manufactured and marketed globally by the Japanese automaker Toyota Motor Corporation. Introduced in 1966, the Corolla was the best-selling car worldwide by 1974 and has been one of the best-selling cars in the world since then. In 1997, the Corolla became the best-selling nameplate in the world, surpassing the Volkswagen Beetle. Toyota reached the milestone of 50 million Corollas sold over twelve generations in 2021.
The name Corolla is part of Toyota's naming tradition of using names derived from the Toyota Crown for sedans, with "corolla" Latin for "small crown". The Corolla has always been exclusive in Japan to Toyota Corolla Store locations, and manufactured in Japan with a twin, called the Toyota Sprinter until 2000. From 2006 to 2018 in Japan and much of the world, and from 2018 to 2020 in Taiwan, the hatchback companion had been called the Toyota Auris.
Early models were mostly rear-wheel drive, while later models have been front-wheel drive. Four-wheel drive versions have also been produced, and it has undergone several major redesigns. The Corolla's traditional competitors have been the Nissan Sunny, introduced the same year as the Corolla in Japan and the later Nissan Sentra, Nissan Sylphy, Honda Civic and Mitsubishi Lancer. The Corolla's chassis designation code is "E", as described in Toyota's chassis and engine codes.

- Summary: I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA COROLLA WITH A 1.8L ENGINE THAT IS FULL OF SLUDGE AND NOW VISIBLY BURNS 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 200-300 MILES AND WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION DUE TO THE OIL BEING BURNED IN THE EXHAUST. I HAVE HAD TO REPLACE SEVERAL CATALYTIC CONVERTERS DUE TO BECOMING CLOGGED FROM THE AMOUNT OF OIL BURNING THROUGH THE ENGINE. THIS PROBLEM HAS EXISTED SINCE THE CAR HAD ABOUT 55,000 MILES ON IT AND LOCAL TOYOTA GARAGE HAS EITHER DENIED THERE BEING A PROBLEM OR THEY HAVE TRIED TO SELL ME ON NUMEROUS OTHER EXPENSIVE REPAIRS SUCH AS FRONT AND REAR MAIN BEARINGS AND SEALS, ALLEGEDLY WARPED HEAD, ETC. VEHICLE NOW HAS CLOSE TO 100K MILES. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT NOW PASS STATE EMISSIONS INSPECTION AND IS ESSENTIALLY WORTHLESS. THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF LIKE REPORTS IN RESEARCHING BUT NEVER SEEMS TO HAVE BEEN ADDRESSED. OTHER MODELS AND YEARS HAVE BEEN INCLUDED IN A CLASS ACTION SUITS THAT WAS SUCCESSFUL FOR THE EXACT SAME ISSUE, BUT I CAN'T FIND THAT THIS VEHICLE HAS BEEN SUCCESSFULLY ADDRESSED. *KB

ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2006-09-15
- VIN: 1NXBR18E0YZ
- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: AT 70,000 MILES ON MY 2000 TOYOTA COROLLA THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON, WHEN REVIEWING THE CURRENT PROBLEMS WITH MY CERTIFIED MECHANIC, I MENTIONED THAT I WAS USING A QUART OF OIL ABOUT EVERY 600 MILES. HE SAID THAT IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $3,000-6,000 TO FIX THE PROBLEM. IN UNDER 2,000 MORE MILES IT BECAME ADD A QUART OF OIL EACH TANK. AT 84,000 MILES THE HEAD WENT OUT ON THIS MOTOR, THREE DIFFERENT MECHANICS FROM DIFFERENT SHOPS COULDN'T BELIEVE A TOYOTA MOTOR WOULD NEED A NEW HEAD AT THIS DISTANCE. I REPLACED THE HEAD. THE KNOCKING SOUND DISAPPEARED FOR A WHILE, THE OIL CONSUMPTION WENT DOWN FOR A WHILE. AGAIN WITH THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. AND BACK TO A QUART PER TANK. AFTER A WHILE THE CAR STARTED TO SHUT OFF BY ITS SELF. NO STEERING, SCARED THE HECK OUT OF ME. I LIVE IN A REGION WITH EMBANKMENTS WHICH REACH OVER 200' WITH TREES. I HAD TO STOP DRIVING THE CAR BECAUSE IT WAS NO LONGER SAFE TO DRIVE. I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT THE COROLLA MOTORS HAVE SUCH A BAD REPUTATION. THE TOYOTA TRUCK I OWNED RAN LIKE A CHAMP AT 200,000 WHEN I SOLD IT, IT STILL RUNS TODAY. WHILE THE COROLLA NEEDS A NEW MOTOR. THERE MUST BE A DESIGN FLAW TO CREATE SO MANY SIMILAR OIL PROBLEMS. *TR

I got my 2000 Toyota Corolla when I was 19 for my first car. Just recently, after 4 years, I had to get rid of it because it was too small. I have a baby now and the backseat was not spacious enough. Despite the lack of space, my Corolla was awesome. The only thing I ever had to do was routine maintenance! It was an awesome first car. If you're not worried about space, I definitely recommend a Corolla. You can't beat Toyota's reliability!
-
I hope this message finds you well. I just wanted to let you know that I have had excellent service from this vehicle, but I feel it is time to exchange it for a newer model. I have had no problems or complaints about its performance ability.
-
I'm glad to hear that you enjoy having and driving this car. It sounds like it's a reliable vehicle with good fuel economy and enough power to handle steep grades.
-
With 39K on the odometer, this car is in excellent condition and everything works perfectly. It drives like new and the 4-Speed Auto is incredibly smooth. The 1.8 VVT-i is peppy and I was able to beat a Sunfire GT (2.4?) from a stoplight by just a hair. The cruise control and AUTO down driver's window are both very handy features. Even when I drive fast, I still manage to get an impressive 37MPG. Plus, the car looks great and I often receive compliments on it.
-
My experience with this vehicle has been fantastic. I have not encountered any electrical or mechanical issues with this car, making it a dream to own. Even after sitting for three months over the winter, it started right up without any problems.

Our car started burning oil after just 4 years of owning it. We kept taking it back to the dealer with no luck on getting it fixed. We just kept putting oil into it every week. Unfortunately, the motor eventually failed at 212,000 miles. We were disappointed with our experience and have decided to explore other options in the future.

I used to have great faith in Toyota until I realized that my 5-year-old Toyota with 42K miles has an engine problem that appears to be a manufacturing defect. I purchased the car when it had 17K miles. In May 05, I noticed the oil light was on and discovered that there was no oil left in the engine at all. I immediately took it to a reputable car repair shop and had the oil changed, but they did not detect any leaks. The assumption was that the previous oil change was not done properly. However, six weeks later (yesterday), the oil light came back on, and the same issue occurred - there was no oil in the car. While I am disappointed with the engine problem, I believe that Toyota will take appropriate action to address the issue. Thank you for your attention to this matter.
