Chevrolet Tahoe problems
The Chevrolet Tahoe, and its badge-engineered GMC Yukon counterpart, are full-size SUVs and other trucks from General Motors, offered since 1994 and 1991, respectively. Since 1982, Chevrolet and GMC sold two different-sized SUVs under their "Blazer" and "Jimmy" nameplates, by introducing the smaller S-10 Blazer and GMC S-15 Jimmy for the 1983 model year, below the full-size Blazer and Jimmy models. This situation lasted into the early 1990s. GMC first rebadged the full-size Jimmy as the "Yukon" in 1991. Chevrolet however waited until 1994, when they rebadged the redesigned mid-size S-10 Blazer the "new Blazer," while renaming the full-size Blazer as the "Tahoe." The name Tahoe refers to the rugged and scenic area surrounding Lake Tahoe in the western United States, and was originally used as a trim level on S-10 models. The name Yukon refers to the Yukon territory of northern Canada.
For the 1995 model year, the Tahoe and Yukon gained a new, longer four-door model, slotting in size between the two-door models and the longer-wheelbase Chevrolet/GMC Suburbans.
The Tahoe is sold in North America, parts of Asia such as the Philippines, and the Middle East, plus other countries including Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Angola as a left-hand-drive vehicle. The Yukon is only sold in North America and the Middle East.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are part of General Motors' full-size SUV family and are differentiated from the similar Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL primarily by the length of the passenger and cargo area behind the C-pillar. An upscale trim GMC Denali sub-model joined the Yukon lineup as the top-of-the-line trim for the 1999 model year; the Cadillac Escalade is a closely related upscale version sharing the same platform. The Denali is available on both standard and XL versions.
The Tahoe has regularly been the best-selling full-size SUV in the United States, frequently outselling its competition by two to one.

I contacted Chevy corporate and they offered to cover 30%. The dealership is still awaiting the part(s) with no provided delivery date. This could have caused a serious MV accident if it had failed while driving. The vehicle gave no warning of this failure.

- Summary: Took the vehicle in for Airbag System recall in 2022. They said they fixed it and that there was a broken wire. The very next day the warning light came on again like before. I contacted the dealership and they said bring it in. I could not get it in again as I was very busy. I asked them to make a note in my file of the immediate call/report of still a problem. I took the vehicle in this month (October 2024) for issue of no starting (fuel pump failure, another recall they are denying). They stated that the Drivers Side Airbag module was shorted or bad and my cost would be approximately $1,250. They stated it was not covered under any recall. I contacted Chevy corporate that offered to cover 30% only of this. I believe this should be covered in whole due to the failure to repair the first time and that is is a known safety issue. The vehicle has only 10,800 miles.

The contact stated that after starting the vehicle and making a turn in either direction, there was an abnormal groaning sound coming from the rear of the vehicle. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not included in the Extend Coverage to address the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

I am requesting my VIN to be added to the recall and GM to pay for the part, labor and towing.

I purchased my Tahoe brand new and have driven almost every one of the 300k miles on the odometer myself. It's difficult to rate the 'electronics' or 'active safety' for its day, but the electronics were good. Let's be real, in 2000, there was no Bluetooth, no phone connectivity, and no USB ports. Blind spot monitoring was called a mirror and looking over your shoulder. Despite this, I have driven 300k miles without hitting anyone! The car has an AM/FM CD and TAPE DECK. Although I love HD radio, Bluetooth, and XM, the car keeps running. I have taken this vehicle through mud up to its axles, through snow up to its hood, and through rain so hard that I couldn't see the hood - and it kept going. Before getting this car, I would trade about every other year. However, this one is 18 years old and I still love it. As of late, I have had a couple of repairs, including an alternator at 290k and a transfer case replacement at 275k. Otherwise, it's just been tires, brakes, and shocks one time. This is an amazing vehicle. My final assembly was in Janesville, WI, and they must have had a great crew working the day my Tahoe came off the line. UPDATE as of 2/2018 - Literally 2 hours after I wrote this review, my transmission went out. It was a great run for 17 years and 300k miles. If new Tahoes were affordable to me, I would get another one today.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my truck. I bought it used in 2004 with only 19,000 miles on it, and I've been really happy with it. I've had very few problems in the last four years, although I did have to replace the fuel pump. From what I've heard, that's a common issue with Chevy trucks, so it's something to keep in mind. Despite that, I still get pretty good fuel economy, even with over 300 HP and 33-inch tires (which are aftermarket). Overall, I really love this truck and don't have any plans to trade it in. I recently purchased a 2017 Tahoe from a dealer in Maryland, despite living in Phoenix. Although I was a bit hesitant to buy a car sight unseen, the purchase price was below the local market and I was willing to pay the shipping fee. I trusted the dealer to disclose any damage, and while the Tahoe had some wear and tear from its previous life as a rental, it was mechanically sound. Unfortunately, some of the trim was damaged and the DVD player was missing, which the salesman failed to mention. While this was disappointing, I was still able to have the damaged parts replaced for about $600. Despite these minor setbacks, I am thrilled with my purchase and love driving my beautiful new truck!

I bought my 2015 Chevy Tahoe brand new and have owned it for 2 and a half years. Before that, I had a 2000 Chevy Tahoe that I also purchased new and loved. Since owning the 2015, I've experienced a few issues. The steering column popped during parking or in town driving, but the dealership replaced it and it's been excellent ever since. The climate control knob on the front passenger side broke, but it was an easy fix. The dashboard panel above the odometer bubbled up, but it was quickly replaced. Unfortunately, I had a few side panels break in a car wash, which caused some whistling noises during a long drive, but I taped them down and it was fine. The Tahoe's metal body is quite thin and dents easily, but it still looks great. The Continental tires it comes with wear out quickly, but they drive nicely. The worst problem I've had is with the air conditioning, which stopped working due to a design flaw in the unit. It's been a bit of a hassle, but the part will be in soon and it will be fixed. Overall, I still love my Tahoe and would recommend it to others.It appears that the air conditioner in 2015 Chevy Tahoes may stop working at some point. Unfortunately, GM will not fix it before it fails, and they have not issued a recall as it is not considered a safety issue. The condenser is currently on back order due to high demand for replacements on the 2015 Chevy Tahoe only. While this is concerning, I am hopeful that my 2015 Chevy Tahoe will continue to perform well. My previous 2000 Chevy Tahoe was incredibly reliable and lasted for 220,000 miles. Although I have had to visit the dealership multiple times with my 2015 Chevy Tahoe, I am grateful for the extended warranty that I purchased. I am confident that GM will address any issues that may arise after the warranty expires. While the price of the vehicle was high, I am still satisfied with my purchase and hopeful for its future performance.

This car is outstanding in many ways, but there are some engineering downsides to consider. Firstly, the interior is filled with cheap plastic that tends to crack easily. Secondly, the car's brakes wear out quickly, similar to a race car. Lastly, in the 2006 model and up to the present, there is a defect in the engine that causes oil to seep into the cylinder and get burned up. While this may not sound too bad at first, it can lead to the car using up oil in between oil changes. The only way to fix this issue is to buy new pistons or a new engine. In my experience, my car uses up to 2 quarts of oil in between oil changes (3000 miles).

I purchased a 2021 Z71 in November. Unfortunately, in January, I experienced a popping sound followed by a knocking sound, and then all my service lights came on. The vehicle started rumbling and shaking, which prompted me to contact Chevy. They advised me to stop driving and tow the vehicle in. After inspection, it was discovered that a lift valve had blown and caused damage to another component. Although everything was repaired, I am disappointed to report that the exact same issue has arisen again in April. While there were no loaners available, Chevy has provided me with $35 per day towards a rental. Although I had to pay $11 for a full-size car, I am grateful for the assistance. I understand that renting an SUV would have been more expensive. Despite these issues, I remain confident in Chevy's ability to resolve the problem.

If you own a GM 2002-2006 V8 motor, it's important to be aware of possible factory defects in the cylinder heads. Signs of these defects include always needing to add coolant, loss of coolant with no visible leaks, and the heater blowing cool air. Unfortunately, I had a negative experience with Hedricks Chevy of Fresno, Calif. who misdiagnosed my Tahoe. Now that my extended warranty has expired, I may be facing a repair cost of over $3000.00. While I'm disappointed with the poor customer service from both GM and Hedricks, I still believe in the quality of the vehicle and expect it to last over 200k miles with normal service. It's important for buyers to be aware of these issues and make informed decisions.

The Encoder Motor for the transmission has been the biggest reliability issue. It seems that all Tahoe 4 wheel drive vehicles have this problem, according to my research. Unfortunately, replacing them can be quite expensive and needs to be done every 2-3 years.
