2011 Chevrolet Tahoe problems
The Chevrolet Tahoe, and its badge-engineered GMC Yukon counterpart, are full-size SUVs and other trucks from General Motors, offered since 1994 and 1991, respectively. Since 1982, Chevrolet and GMC sold two different-sized SUVs under their "Blazer" and "Jimmy" nameplates, by introducing the smaller S-10 Blazer and GMC S-15 Jimmy for the 1983 model year, below the full-size Blazer and Jimmy models. This situation lasted into the early 1990s. GMC first rebadged the full-size Jimmy as the "Yukon" in 1991. Chevrolet however waited until 1994, when they rebadged the redesigned mid-size S-10 Blazer the "new Blazer," while renaming the full-size Blazer as the "Tahoe." The name Tahoe refers to the rugged and scenic area surrounding Lake Tahoe in the western United States, and was originally used as a trim level on S-10 models. The name Yukon refers to the Yukon territory of northern Canada.
For the 1995 model year, the Tahoe and Yukon gained a new, longer four-door model, slotting in size between the two-door models and the longer-wheelbase Chevrolet/GMC Suburbans.
The Tahoe is sold in North America, parts of Asia such as the Philippines, and the Middle East, plus other countries including Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Angola as a left-hand-drive vehicle. The Yukon is only sold in North America and the Middle East.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are part of General Motors' full-size SUV family and are differentiated from the similar Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL primarily by the length of the passenger and cargo area behind the C-pillar. An upscale trim GMC Denali sub-model joined the Yukon lineup as the top-of-the-line trim for the 1999 model year; the Cadillac Escalade is a closely related upscale version sharing the same platform. The Denali is available on both standard and XL versions.
The Tahoe has regularly been the best-selling full-size SUV in the United States, frequently outselling its competition by two to one.

Common 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe problems
The 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe is known for its dependable engine, ample passenger space, and comfortable seats. However, there are several common problems reported by owners that are worth noting.
- Dirty Throttle Body: Without proper maintenance, the throttle body can collect carbon and impact airflow into the engine. Buildup within the Chevy Tahoe engine can become a problem when the motor can't get the air it needs, causing it to idle low, run rough and stall.
In summary, while the 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe is known for its dependable engine, ample passenger space, and comfortable seats, it is important to be aware of the common problems reported by owners, including cracked dashboards, water leaking into doors, traction control and ABS lights, recalls, engine lifters, and dirty throttle bodies. Proper maintenance and regular checks can help prevent or mitigate these issues.
How many miles will a 2011 Tahoe last?
A properly maintained 2011 Tahoe should be able to last over 300,000 miles, which is longer than many full-size American competitors. The regular annual maintenance costs are similar to rivals at $675 per year, according to Repair Pal.
What year Tahoe is the most reliable?
What is the best year for Chevrolet Tahoe? While the “best” year can vary based on personal needs and preferences, the 2014 model year is often considered one of the best Chevy Tahoe years, if not the best, in terms of reliability, comfort, and overall owner satisfaction.
Do Tahoes have engine problems?
Buildup within the Chevy Tahoe engine can become a problem when the motor can't get the air it needs, causing it to idle low, run rough and stall.
What are common Tahoe transmission problems?
One of the more common Chevy Tahoe transmission problems is the loss of 3rd and/or 4th gears. This occurs because the clutch discs inside the 4L60E 3-4 clutch pack have a tendency to wear out and fail prematurely.
Are 2011 Tahoes reliable?
We have received a lot of positive owner reviews mentioning a dependable engine, a lot of passenger room, and comfortable seats. Reliability ratings are very good, with only minor interior problems. Tahoes from 2009 through 2014 are all good, and we recommend avoiding the 2015 model because it has more issues.
How many miles will a 2011 Tahoe last?
As for how long a Chevrolet Tahoe will last, in general, expect at least 125,000-150,000 miles without much hassle. Reaching 200,000 in a Tahoe is less likely without a major repair, but not unheard of. In rare cases, some owners even boast of tipping over 300,000 miles.

AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-11
- VIN: 1GNSKCE08BR
- Components: AIR BAGS,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I took my vehicle into sunset Chevrolet in Sumner Washington, in November of 2022 and had them complete the Takata air bag recall on the vehicle. I drove it for a few months and put it in storage. Since the recall the dash is now cracked where the dealer replaced the passenger airbag recall. It was not cracked prior to the replacement. I have talked to the dealer and they are saying they will not cover this. This is a hazard issue and can cause additional shrapnel to come flying at you if the vehicle is involved in an accident. The vehicle was stored in the garage and not driven. The dealer won't even examine the vehicle to see if the bolts were inadvertently overtightened on the technicians side. This is not right and this is something that should be covered. The vehicle has about 88k miles on it. My dash was not cracked at the time of the repair and now it is. This is not right to put me at more risk than what I was at prior to the recall. I read that the Takata airbag recall stated to repair the cracked dashes. Mine cracked after gm performed the recall. This is a hazard and is something that should be taken care of. I am disabled individual.
AIR BAGS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-27
- VIN: 1GNSKBE08BR
- Components: AIR BAGS
- Summary: I spoke with GM a couple of times and GM refuses to help with the cost of dash repair that could happen if the airbag recall is fixed. My dash is already damaged so the repair would totally ruin the dash and can cost over $2000.00 if repairs are made, therefore my airbag recall cannot be completed
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-04-03
- VIN: 1GNSKBE04BR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I was sold a vehicle by a small car dealer who claims to have a dealers license. He advertised the car as having 125,000 miles and that is what the odometer says. After receiving the title and looking it up on car fax I found that the vehicle actually has 255,000 miles on it. Dealer states it was a cash deal and not his problem
SUSPENSION PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-06-01
- VIN: 1GNSCCE02BR
- Components: SUSPENSION
- Summary: The contact owns a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact stated while driving approximately 50 MPH, the "suspension service" warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the vehicle no longer felt stable. The contact drove the vehicle to her residence. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a dealer or independent mechanic to be diagnosed. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 11V007000 (Suspension). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 45,000.
AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-04-04
- VIN: 1GNSKBE04BR
- Components: AIR BAGS,STRUCTURE
- Summary: Takata Recall. The contact's wife owns a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V054000 (Air Bags) and the vehicle was taken to the dealer who completed the recall repair; however, while driving the vehicle a week later, the contact's wife noticed that the dashboard was shaking significantly. There were no warning lights illuminated. The contact's wife drove back to their residence, where the contact inspected the dashboard and noticed that it was severely cracked on the driver's side behind the steering wheel and on the passenger's side. The dealer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the dashboard replacement would be at his own expense as the manufacturer would not cover the repair. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the dealer should have informed them that the dashboard would be cracked prior to the recall repair and after the failure; however, the manufacturer did not provide any assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 122,500.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-03-01
- VIN: 1GNSKCE02BR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: My dashboard is cracked in multiple places. It is broken around the airbag. My vehicle has been garage kept. My concern is that in an accident the dashboard could shatter sending shrapnel toward driver and passenger. Further because the crack is around the airbag it could puncture the airbag on deployment rendering it ineffective resulting in serious injury or death.
STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-02-13
- VIN: 1gnscce02br
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: Dashboard is cracking at passenger side air bag, and on the driver side instrument cluster. This is a known Chevy defect and Chevy not wanting to fix the problem so to faulty engineering design. Class action lawsuit got no where. We need you help so other owners of Tahoes, Yukons, Sierra’s, and Silverados can have their faulty dashboard replaced. Definitely a safety issue due pieces of the dash flying out in a accident.

- VIN: 1GNSCBE02BR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: The dashboard is cracked from different areas throughout the dashboard. I'm concerned the dashboard will break completely while driving. I can't afford to fix the problem and replace the dashboard. The trunk door won't open. I had to pay the dealer $900 to have it replaced. I would like to get reimbursed since a car should open its trunk door. Its an SUV and I should be able to put things in the trunk without any problems.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-22
- VIN: 1gnlc2e05br
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: During refueling the fuel does not fill up and backs up coming out onto person fueling vehicle along with fuel pouring onto vehicle as well property. This is a major fire hazard and can cause serious burns to whomever is fueling vehicle let alone what can happen if the spill is ever to ignite from a electronic spark. This is a major problem and needs to be rectified as soon as possible, for it is eminent that someone will be injured and possible killed.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-06-10
- VIN: 1GNSCAE08BR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I have had this vehicle since 2011 and it is used as my vehicle to and from work. It’s stored in the garage and covered at work. During COVID, I did not work on site, so it was stored in the garage for 18 months. When I returned to work, I noticed a crack in the dash board in two places. It has no sun damage, no exterior damage. I am aware of a class action lawsuit with cracked dashboards. I was also informed by repair shop and my insurance that Tahoe’s (2007-2014) have issues with the dashboards cracking. Repair shop said my car is in excellent condition and this is a defect with this car. https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.carparts.com/blog/the-latest-on-the-gm-cracked-dash-issue/amp/

- Summary: THE DASHBOARD IS CRACKED IN MULTIPLE AREAS CAUSING RATTLING AND PLASTIC BITS BREAKING OFF AND FALLING INTO THE DASH AREA. I'M CONCERNED THIS POORLY STRUCTURED DASH WILL LOSE INTEGRITY ENOUGH TO CAUSE DAMAGE OR POTENTIALLY CAUSE ELECTRICAL MALFUNCTIONS IN OTHER AREAS UNDERNEATH THE DASH. THIS POOR DASH DESIGN IS WELL KNOWN IN THE TAHOE COMMUNITY. THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKS SOMETIMES AND COMPLETELY DOESN'T WORK OTHER TIMES. THERE IS NO CONSISTENCY OF WHEN IT WILL WORK OR NOT WORK. WHEN I HIT THE INITIAL START UP BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL, THE LIGHT ON THE WHEEL WILL LIGHT UP. HOWEVER, IF I HIT THE 'SET' BUTTON ON THE WHEEL, THE ACTUAL CRUISE CONTROL WILL SOMETIMES ACTIVATE AND THE LIGHT ON THE DASH WILL COME ON CONFIRMING IT IS SET AND WORKING. BUT SOMETIMES WHEN I HIT THE 'SET' BUTTON, NOTHING HAPPENS AND THE CRUISE CONTROL NEVER ACTIVATES. THIS IS AT ANY SPEED.

Positive 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe car reviews

I really love this vehicle! It handles my 6,500 pound trailer with ease and the ride is incredibly smooth, especially with the Z71 Package. It's a beast when it comes to tackling mountains and waterfording. I can't imagine driving anything else. The cargo space is huge and the cabin is incredibly roomy. The handling feels European and is amazing for such a large SUV. Even bumps and potholes are barely noticeable. One night, a deer jumped in front of my headlights and although I did hit it, I only felt a light thud. (The deer survived and is now at a sanctuary.) The car is remarkably safe and the electronic stability control has saved my life more than once. I highly recommend buying this vehicle without any hesitation!

After downsizing from my Silverado to a Malibu, I realized that driving just wasn't for me. However, after test driving several large SUVs, I found the Tahoe and knew immediately that it was the car for me. I should have gone with my gut and purchased it instead of the Silverado, but I talked myself out of it due to incentives. I couldn't be happier with my decision now though! The comfort is amazing and I finally found the perfect driving position. I feel completely safe taking my family on road trips and my MPG is actually better than it was with my truck, averaging 16 in mostly LA driving. The dealers were wonderful and made me feel like they truly valued my business.
-
You can count on a reliable and comfortable ride. Although the auto mirrors only lasted about 4 years, that's the only fault we could find.

This car is really solid. It can plow through ten inches of snow on my driveway and holds the road like a mack truck. I love my Tahoe, but the only problem is ongoing air conditioning issues. I've spent a lot of money and it’s still not working properly.

I'm so excited to share that my neighbor just got a 2010 LS Tahoe 4x4! The best part is that it used to be a Border Patrol vehicle and comes equipped with all the good stuff - lifted, heavy duty front skid plate, and no front bumper. It's incredibly comfortable too! Living in the Superstition Wilderness, my neighbor and I love hiking with our dogs and friends on off-road, forest, and old mining roads. It's always so much fun! The car runs like a dream and handles the Arizona mountain roads like a champ. With only 131k miles, it's definitely a great buy. If it's good enough for the Border Patrol to chase drug runners and coyotes, it's definitely good enough for us! God Bless America!

My 2010 Tahoe began experiencing issues at just 3500 miles. Despite having 100 malfunction codes, Alexandria Chevy initially denied any problems. Despite returning the vehicle multiple times, the dealership has been unable to resolve the issues. The car has experienced a range of problems, including issues with the oil pressure gauge, dash, doors, radio, and brakes. As the car only has 9000 miles on it, I am confident that these issues are not due to normal wear and tear.

Driving would be so much better if it didn't stall in the middle of the highway or road. I understand that there are others who have experienced this issue and it can be frustrating. Have you tried contacting the manufacturer for assistance?

I purchased a Tahoe on February 13, 2010, but it immediately developed a vibration that made driving uncomfortable. Despite the dealer having it more than me, the problem remains unresolved. However, I am confident that the issue will be resolved soon and I will be able to enjoy my Tahoe to the fullest. While I had considered purchasing a Nissan Pathfinder, I am glad that I chose the Tahoe and I am confident that it will provide me with a great driving experience.
