2022 Chevrolet Tahoe problems
The Chevrolet Tahoe, and its badge-engineered GMC Yukon counterpart, are full-size SUVs and other trucks from General Motors, offered since 1994 and 1991, respectively. Since 1982, Chevrolet and GMC sold two different-sized SUVs under their "Blazer" and "Jimmy" nameplates, by introducing the smaller S-10 Blazer and GMC S-15 Jimmy for the 1983 model year, below the full-size Blazer and Jimmy models. This situation lasted into the early 1990s. GMC first rebadged the full-size Jimmy as the "Yukon" in 1991. Chevrolet however waited until 1994, when they rebadged the redesigned mid-size S-10 Blazer the "new Blazer," while renaming the full-size Blazer as the "Tahoe." The name Tahoe refers to the rugged and scenic area surrounding Lake Tahoe in the western United States, and was originally used as a trim level on S-10 models. The name Yukon refers to the Yukon territory of northern Canada.
For the 1995 model year, the Tahoe and Yukon gained a new, longer four-door model, slotting in size between the two-door models and the longer-wheelbase Chevrolet/GMC Suburbans.
The Tahoe is sold in North America, parts of Asia such as the Philippines, and the Middle East, plus other countries including Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Angola as a left-hand-drive vehicle. The Yukon is only sold in North America and the Middle East.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are part of General Motors' full-size SUV family and are differentiated from the similar Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL primarily by the length of the passenger and cargo area behind the C-pillar. An upscale trim GMC Denali sub-model joined the Yukon lineup as the top-of-the-line trim for the 1999 model year; the Cadillac Escalade is a closely related upscale version sharing the same platform. The Denali is available on both standard and XL versions.
The Tahoe has regularly been the best-selling full-size SUV in the United States, frequently outselling its competition by two to one.

Common 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe problems
The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to the engine, electrical system, and transmission.
- Electrical Issues: Several electrical issues have been reported, including the instrument cluster light coming on, the key fob malfunctioning, and the entire cluster going blank. These issues can lead to the vehicle not starting and can be quite frustrating for the owners. Additionally, some owners have reported problems with the Chevy app showing issues with a Chevy Volt lithium battery, which is unrelated to the Tahoe.
- Transmission Issues: The 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe has been reported to have issues with the braking system failure, ABS, electronic stability control (ESC), traction control, and brake motor warning lights coming on. These issues can lead to a loss of steering capabilities and vibration, especially at higher speeds. Some professional mechanics believe this is caused by faulty GM 8L90 or 8L45 eight-speed automatic transmissions.
- Airbag Inflators: General Motors had to recall close to 6 million vehicles produced from 2007 to 2014 due to faulty airbags. When deployed, these airbags had the potential to explode and spray metal shrapnel throughout the cabin, resulting in serious consequences. If you own this vehicle, it is crucial to get the airbags replaced immediately.
- Instrument Panel Gauges: Many older production years of the Chevy Tahoe, mostly between 2001 and 2008, are prone to experiencing instrument gauge malfunctions and failures. Owners report meters like speedometers, tachometers, odometers, and fuel gauges malfunctioning, providing them with inaccurate readings. These problems can be quite annoying to deal with and could lead to speeding tickets or being stranded on the roadside.
- Unstable Airbag Inflators: General Motors was forced to recall close to 6 million vehicles produced from 2007 to 2014 due to faulty airbags. When deployed, these airbags had the potential to explode and spray metal shrapnel throughout the cabin, resulting in serious consequences. If you own this vehicle, it is crucial to get the airbags replaced immediately.
In conclusion, the 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe has several common problems related to the engine, electrical system, and transmission. It is essential to address these issues promptly to ensure the safety and reliability of the vehicle.
What is the most common problem with the Chevy Tahoe?
Chevy Tahoes have issues with their lifters getting stuck or locked in place within newer models equipped with 5.3L L84 V-8 and 6.2L L87 V-8 EcoTec3 engines. An improperly functioning lifter triggers the check engine light and causes: Ticking and banging noises. Misfires.
Do tahoes have transmission issues?
One of the more common Chevy Tahoe transmission problems is the loss of 3rd and/or 4th gears. This occurs because the clutch discs inside the 4L60E 3-4 clutch pack have a tendency to wear out and fail prematurely.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-25
- VIN: 1GNSKPKD0NR
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Transmission Failure/Windshield Wiper Failure- While traveling approximately 48mph, the vehicle completely locked up. Tires screeched, vehicle came to a grinding halt. Two of my children were in the vehicle (15yrs and 7yrs of age.) This was sudden and without warning! The vehicle almost rolled, and we were lucky that no vehicles were behind us or we would have been rearended. At that time, we pulled over and the vehicle was towed to the service department at the local dealership. Just days before, the windshield wipers completely failed while driving, in the middle of a downpour. I had to pull the vehicle over and wait for the rain to calm before returning home. Also, the entire display panel went blank while driving, as if the vehicle was turned off. I was unable to determine speed etc. There had been a cascade of odd malfunctions days prior to the major events, the clock stopped working, the compass stopped working. The service department informed me that there was a "Bad Valve Body." I was told by the service manager that he had "never heard" of a vehicle doing this. My children and I are terrified to get back in the vehicle, as we almost had what could have been a fatal accident. I am in contact with GM/Chevrolet on possible remedies. I should note again that there are several other defects with the vehicle, that all seem to surround microchip/electrical components. They all seemed to have failed at once, which leads me to believe there is a larger systemic problem with this vehicle, the processors, and components. Again, this was a sudden cascade of failures. I have video of the windshield wipers non-functional during the rain. I was able to take the video after I had stopped. This is exceptionally dangerous. This vehicle is available for inspection. There were NO warnings lamps or messages. NO insurance has been involved. To my knowledge the dealer has not re-created the failures, but I have video of the panel black out as well.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-08
- VIN: 1GNSKNKD5NR
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Driving vehicle from work to home when the vehicle started to stutter and immediately shut down with no power or any capability to turn the vehicle off of the road. This shutdown immediately caused blockage of a major road; since the vehicle could not be moved due to no power to steering wheel nor ability to place the vehicle into neutral. Determination was that the fuel module went bad. No warning of failure of component was indicated by check engine light until after the incident happened. Luckily this shut down of all components of the vehicle did not occur on a high speed road since I did not have any control of the vehicle after the fuel module failed.

FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-01
- VIN: 1GNSKNKD9NR
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Vehicle was driven into parking lot and was idling. Without warning, it began misfiring and stalled. Vehicle would not restart and was towed to the nearest dealer. The diagnosis was a fuel pump driver module that had internally shorted. Thankfully, it failed in the parking lot. We had recently arrived at this location for the winter having driven the vehicle approximately 1500 miles over 4 days. We were lucky the failure did not occur on the highway as the unexpected stalling would potentially be a significant safety concern. Please note that this vehicle is a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe. The 2021 Tahoe was under a recall for this same issue (see recall N212332040). The dealer said that this is a common problem with these vehicles. Perhaps the recall needs to be expanded.
TRAILER HITCHES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-10
- VIN: 1GNSKLED4NR
- Components: TRAILER HITCHES
- Summary: The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Tahoe used to haul a 2023 Wanco WLTV FD-304 Rev A Lighting Structure. The contact stated the Wanco Lighting Structure had a narrow wheelbase and that the lighting mast failed to fold down, and that all the weight remained at a high level. In addition, the diesel engine was behind the axle instead of on top or behind the axle instead of on top or in front causing the trailer to pull off the hitch. The contact stated that the hitch coupler was bent outward and disconnected from the ball. As a result, the contact stated that the failure caused the trailer to tip over while turning. The San Diego Police Department's Fleet Safety Division diagnosed that the weight hitched on the Wanco Lighting Structure did not support the specification limitation. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was not available.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-22
- VIN: 1GNSKRKT6NR

The vehicle failed to restart and was towed to the dealer to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-25
- VIN: 1GNSKPKD7NR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: While driving on highway radio, turn to full max volume and became unresponsive to any other inputs. Steering wheel volume control as well as radio volume control and power buttons were not responsive. Max volume was only resolved by turning vehicle off and back on 30 minutes later. This has happened several times in 2 years.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-11-18
- VIN: 1GNSCNKD8NR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: The radio volume turned all the way up on its own and would not turn down. The control screen would not work, radio power dial would not work. Steering wheel volume buttons would not work. I could turn the dial down, but it turns back up as quickly as it goes down. This caused me to panic and almost crash as I was on a major highway and there was no place for me to pull over.
ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-17
- VIN: 1GNSKRKL4NR
- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: Our family of 5 (including 2 children and an infant) was driving 70 mph westbound on Interstate 40 east of Knoxville, TN when our 2022 Tahoe RST engine seized. For a few seconds, we had no steering, braking or acceleration and the dashboard began flashing. After a few seconds, the car shifted itself into the neural gear and we were able to brake on the shoulder of a busy highway. We were unable to restart the car. We called the police as well as AAA. The police came and sat behind us to deter oncoming cars to changes lanes. AAA came and towed our car to Reeder Chevrolet dealership in Knoxville, TN. There, it was determined that our engine had seized and needs to be replaced under warranty However, there is a backorder on the engine, and we are now driving a rental car. There are several other Tahoes in their service department with similar circumstances in need of a 6.2L ecotech V8 engine. There was no warning at all that the car had problems. Up until this point, there were no issues. I believe there is a widespread problem with these particular engines and this should be addressed on a national level. Our lives were at risk.
BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2022-01-03
- VIN: 1GNSKTKL3NR
- Components: BACK OVER PREVENTION,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: The safety issues with this vehicle all seem to be related to the vehicle Park Assist and cross track functions. The dealer has attempted on several occasions to fix the vehicle without success. There is usually no warning when theses functions are not working properly except sometimes there is flashing spot on the screen instead of warnings. While the dealer has not been able to duplicate some of the issues, they have witnessed the flashing screen and I have provided videos of the dashboard when in failure mode. While I know one can't rely solely on the park assistance features, the inconsistency of this system poses great risk for pedestrians and property damage. The dealer stated that the manufacturer of my car is aware of this problem but does not have a solution. There have been no accidents to date so the issue is on-going. Description of problems: 1-The Park Assist system often does not detect large vehicles, walls, trees, etc. that are within inches of my vehicle. On other occasions the alert system works fine. I back the Tahoe into our garage at least once every day. This vehicle does not perform consistently under the same circumstances. Some days the Park Assist function works well and other days it seems to sense nothing behind me. 2- A flashing white dot sometimes appears in the center of the camera screen when backing up. In most cases the Park Assist is not functioning when the flashing dot appears. (A video of this condition was provided to the dealer.) 3-My car is equipped with 2 types of warning signals indicating when there is a potential collision: a.Option 1: Vibrating driver’s seat b.Option 2: Audible beeps I prefer audible beeps and always select Option 2. My truck frequently changes the mode to vibrating seat. This is very disconcerting and annoying when the truck suddenly switches to vibrations unexpectedly. I do not like the vibrating seat and expect the vehicle to retain the setting I choose.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-08-15
- VIN: 1GNSKNKD3NR
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Driving about 40 mph, 8 am ish 8/15/23. Temp was around 70 degrees. 1 car behind me but not too close. Sunroof glass shattered. I was able to pull into a gas station nearby to look at the sunroof to see what happened. Looks like the glass exploded up and not down from something dropping on it. No prior warning. Just instant shatter. Called dealership and the service person said I should call my insurance. I filed a claim with my insurance and plan to take the vehicle to the dealership to help clean it out and cover the hole so I can still drive home from work today.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-02
- VIN: 1GNSKNKD1NR
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: Tahoe will not start nor will it allow to be jumped by another vechicle. Tahoe is kept in garage this is the 4th time this has happened. Dealer replaced the battery first time saying that was the culprit, second time they could not find a root cause, and same for third time. I see this is a common problem with engine, battery and electrical of the 2022 tahoe. I do not feel safe in it knowing this could cut off on me driving down the interstate.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-06-01
- VIN: 1GNSCMKD6NR
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,ENGINE,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE
- Summary: On June 1st, I was put in a very dangerous situation while driving on the highway. Out of nowhere, my vehicle’s engine started clicking and immediately converted to a rough in the middle of highway traffic. I was terribly afraid from my life. I was headed to Duluth, GA for a meeting but had turn around and drive 31 miles back in rush hour traffic to Steve Reyman Chevrolet Dealership, in cobb county in this condition. I was extremely stressed; afraid that i could potentially be injured in an accident or fire, because of the engine. Several never before seen warning signals appeared. These signals included Service ESC, Service Traction Control, Forward Collision System Unavailable and the check engine light. I had just had my truck serviced on 5/26, as the dealership had been monitoring the oil consumption of my 2022 Tahoe. By the time, I arrived to the dealership, the service department was closed, so the vehicle was left overnight. I met with the service advisor in the morning and was told there was a cylinder 4 misfire and that a fuel injector and spark plugs was needed. After picking up, my vehicle on June 12th, the issued was not resolved and my vehicle was inoperable. I regularly service my vehicle including recommended service, so I’m not sure how something this extreme could happen. Looking back at my service records, there have been several occurrences where the vehicle stalled out and the dealer blamed the auto/start stop feature or a failed battery. All pretty ridiculous claims for a brand new truck. I’m convinced this vehicle was produced poorly. My truck has 72,325 miles on it, however I came across several forums with new body Tahoes & Suburbans with way less mileage (i.e. 4300 miles) that experienced the exact same issue. Attached, you will find all the times, I brought my vehicle in for service for a major concerning issue.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-03-29

There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to safely drive to her destination. The contact was concerned for her safety. The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was advised to take the vehicle back to the dealer to be inspected. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 9,800.

I am very pleased with our new 21 RST. We traded in our 18 Yukon SLT for this and it has been an amazing ride with the new independent rear suspension, even with the 22” wheels. While there are some cons, especially when compared to the outgoing Yukon, there are many pros that have been covered elsewhere. The front windows have express up/down, but unfortunately the fog lights are missing and there is still some cheap plastic in a 70k vehicle. The fancy rear media package that GM raves about is basically a slimmed down iPad and definitely not worth the 2500 package price. I don’t regret buying it, but I actually think it makes the vehicle look ugly and adds to the blind spot a bit when backing up. It would be a good deal at $250, but not 2500! The infotainment system seems a bit slower at everything compared to the Yukon, but it's a minor issue, except when you are surfing and Michael Bolton comes on! Beyond those few cons, the new IRS and panoramic sunroof made this a great upgrade. There is lots more space, especially behind the third row seats. For such a large vehicle, my old 18 Yukon had minuscule space but this has been fixed with the 21. There is lots of extra space in the third row now and even the lowered seats (all thanks to the IRS) are great improvements. Finally, going over speed bumps is night and day different with this suspension. The ride is whisper quiet even at highway speeds. I might actually keep this one more than my usual 2-3 year change cycle, but I’ve only owned it for two days so time will tell.

We decided to upgrade our 21 RST to a '22 due to the high pricing of used vehicles. The overall cost was just a few thousand bucks, which essentially took 17k miles off the odometer. Although I preferred the previous model interface and haven't gotten used to the new Google-based version, the vehicles are nearly identical. I must admit, I was nervous about the power train failures that have been reported, but our 21 was flawless after 17k miles, and our new 22 is just the same. I have only driven 1000 miles so far, so time will tell! Other than that, my review for my 21 remains unchanged. I love the new updates over the 20 (or in my case, the '18 I traded in last year). The ride is better, there is more rear room, and the interior is quiet and comfy. Although I still don't understand the lack of fog lights and some interior cheap plastic, we bought it knowing what we were getting, and we remain happy with the RST. It's quite the intimidator on the road with those 22” wheels!

Overall, it's a nice ride. Although I thought it had adaptive cruise, it's fully loaded otherwise.

I've owned it for 4 months and driven 9 thousand miles without any issues. I'm getting great MPG, 21 on the highway and 19 in the city. It's a very comfortable and quiet ride, the best all around. UPDATE: After 13000 miles, I still have no issues and I'm getting 21 on the highway and 19.5 in the city. I have no complaints or concerns, we absolutely love the Tahoe!

It's great to hear that you've joined the Chevy family! I totally understand not wanting to spend too much money, but I'm glad you gave the Tahoe a chance. After test driving it, I can see why you were amazed and decided to purchase it, especially with the Z71 package. The ride is amazing and the handling is top-notch. Plus, there are plenty of safety and comfort options to choose from. Overall, I agree that the 2021 Tahoe is an impressive vehicle!

I recently purchased a 2021 Tahoe Premier in early October, but unfortunately, it has already been in the shop once and is about to go back in. With this new model, there are several issues and bugs already popping up. The first issue we had was an improperly installed front bumper sensor that was not seated flush on the bumper. When we pushed it with our finger, it pushed all the way into the bumper. However, Chevy was quick to resolve the issue by ripping off a bumper from another Tahoe on the lot to install on mine. This week, we have received two error messages on the dashboard: 'Service Safety Restraint System' and 'Check Reverse Lamp' when putting the vehicle in reverse. I called our dealer and they informed me that this is a known issue with the 2021's. We are now working on a game plan to get these issues, plus one other bulletin/recall related to the braking system resolved. Although I love the interior and exterior look of the new Tahoe, I would recommend waiting for these current and future bugs to be resolved. This is by far the worst experience I've had with a brand new car.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my 5th Tahoe LT ('03, '13, '17, '18, '21). I was really excited about my purchase back in July 2020, but unfortunately, this LT model has been back to the dealership for issues more than the previous 4 combined. Recently, a software update failed and it looks like I'll be without the infotainment system/radio for up to 3 weeks, if not longer. I'm a bit disappointed that the point of purchase or service dealerships or GM haven't done much to address the inconvenience of my having purchased a brand new vehicle without the features that went into the decision to purchase. However, I'm hopeful that by bringing this matter to GM's attention, they will stand by their product and truly be concerned about customer satisfaction and appreciate customer loyalty with more than lip service. I'll keep you posted on how things go. Thanks for listening!

I purchased the new 2021 RST two months ago. Despite experiencing a slight misfire since then, I have been able to identify the issue and am confident in resolving it. Unfortunately, I have recently noticed an oil leak from under the engine. While Chevy is unable to accommodate me for a few weeks, I am taking proactive measures to address the issue. Although the vehicle is aesthetically pleasing, I am disappointed by these issues.

If you're looking for a reliable vehicle that won't spend too much time in the shop, you may want to consider other options besides the Tahoe. As a long-time Tahoe driver, I was excited to purchase my third one, but unfortunately, this brand new purchase has had constant electrical issues. The gear shifter is also a bit confusing to use. On the plus side, the exterior looks great with the new body style. While the added cargo room was a selling point, it hasn't made a noticeable difference. Overall, I've had a disappointing experience with this Tahoe and it has spent more time in the shop than on the road. I'm not sure if I'll be purchasing a Chevy again in the future.

I have loved this vehicle until yesterday! Despite being less than 6 months old and having less than 6500 miles on it, the vehicle left me stranded on the interstate. However, I was impressed with the dealership's rapid response in helping me. While there have been reports of similar issues, I am confident that the necessary steps will be taken to address them. I look forward to driving my car again with peace of mind.
