2014 Chevrolet Tahoe problems
The Chevrolet Tahoe, and its badge-engineered GMC Yukon counterpart, are full-size SUVs and other trucks from General Motors, offered since 1994 and 1991, respectively. Since 1982, Chevrolet and GMC sold two different-sized SUVs under their "Blazer" and "Jimmy" nameplates, by introducing the smaller S-10 Blazer and GMC S-15 Jimmy for the 1983 model year, below the full-size Blazer and Jimmy models. This situation lasted into the early 1990s. GMC first rebadged the full-size Jimmy as the "Yukon" in 1991. Chevrolet however waited until 1994, when they rebadged the redesigned mid-size S-10 Blazer the "new Blazer," while renaming the full-size Blazer as the "Tahoe." The name Tahoe refers to the rugged and scenic area surrounding Lake Tahoe in the western United States, and was originally used as a trim level on S-10 models. The name Yukon refers to the Yukon territory of northern Canada.
For the 1995 model year, the Tahoe and Yukon gained a new, longer four-door model, slotting in size between the two-door models and the longer-wheelbase Chevrolet/GMC Suburbans.
The Tahoe is sold in North America, parts of Asia such as the Philippines, and the Middle East, plus other countries including Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Angola as a left-hand-drive vehicle. The Yukon is only sold in North America and the Middle East.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are part of General Motors' full-size SUV family and are differentiated from the similar Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL primarily by the length of the passenger and cargo area behind the C-pillar. An upscale trim GMC Denali sub-model joined the Yukon lineup as the top-of-the-line trim for the 1999 model year; the Cadillac Escalade is a closely related upscale version sharing the same platform. The Denali is available on both standard and XL versions.
The Tahoe has regularly been the best-selling full-size SUV in the United States, frequently outselling its competition by two to one.

Common 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe problems
The Chevrolet Tahoe 2014 has several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include:
- Chevy Shake: Like many other Chevy vehicles manufactured between 2014 and 2016, Chevy Tahoes are susceptible to the well-known "Chevy Shake." As drivers reach speeds over 35 miles per hour, their vehicle begins to lose steering capabilities and vibrate with so much force that their mirrors and belongings within the vehicle shake.
- Unstable Airbag Inflators: General Motors was forced to recall close to 6 million vehicles produced from 2007 to 2014 due to faulty airbags. When deployed, these airbags had the potential to explode and spray metal shrapnel throughout the cabin, resulting in serious consequences.
These issues can vary in severity and impact on the vehicle's performance, safety, and value. It is important for Tahoe owners to be aware of these common problems and address them promptly to ensure the safe and reliable operation of their vehicle.
What is the most common problem with the Chevy Tahoe?
Chevy Tahoes have issues with their lifters getting stuck or locked in place within newer models equipped with 5.3L L84 V-8 and 6.2L L87 V-8 EcoTec3 engines. An improperly functioning lifter triggers the check engine light and causes: Ticking and banging noises. Misfires.
What year Tahoe has transmission problems?
Early models, particularly around 2002-2004 and 2007-2009, have been reported to have transmission issues. These range from shifting problems, transmission fluid leaks, and in severe cases, complete transmission failure.
What year Tahoe is the most reliable?
CarComplaints.com awarded the 2009 Tahoe the “Awesome” seal of approval for its top-notch reliability. Both 2010 and 2011 Tahoe SUVs also received the “Awesome” badge of approval from CarComplaints. Although they also had the cracked dashboard issue from the 2007 model, they're not widespread and hardly a big deal.
How many miles will a 2014 Chevy Tahoe last?
Yes, a Chevrolet Tahoe can last 200,000 to 300,000 miles, but prepare to start paying more for each mile past 150,000.

TIRES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-31
- VIN: 1GNSKBE06ER
- Components: TIRES
- Summary: P265/65R18 Michelin Tires: I bought the vehicle last Fall and it had these tires. I am not sure when they were purchased, but they seem to be in good condition with plenty of tread left. However, these tires are dangerous in winter conditions. They do not grip on snow and they are absolutely dangerous if there is any ice on the roads. I have driven in Minnesota and North Dakota since I got my driver's license and these tires are probably the most dangerous tires I've ever had. This morning (10/31/2023) we had just a little bit of frozen sleet on the roads from last night and it shouldn't have impacted my driving much, but going over 35mph caused slipping and loss of traction. My 2WD Pontiac sedan has much older, more worn tires and handles ice better than my 4WD Chevrolet Tahoe with these tires. I am emailing you so that you are aware that there is a potential issue with these tires. I have already contacted the manufacturer of these tires.

- VIN: 1GNSKBE08ER
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: The low beam bulb on both sides of the vehicle keep going out. I have replaced each bulb at least 3 times. There is no moisture in the headlight and I don't see any electrical shorting on the harness. Malfunctioning headlights are a huge safety concern for my family and every other vehicle on the road. Also, my wife has gotten pulled over several times because of this. Almost every Chevy SUV and truck of the same year I see on the road have headlights out as well. Vehicle has not been inspected by the manufacturer. The headlights started failing about two years ago.

UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-07-24
- VIN: 1GNSKCE06ER
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I purchased a 2014 Chevrolet Tahoe LTZ around July 10th, 2021 from an individual in Georgia. The vehicle has been immaculately maintained with no damages on it at all. I had researched any recalls on the vehicle before I even looked at it. I found that there was one for an airbag problem. Long story short, I purchased the vehicle and the previous owner took it for the recall issue to be repaired before I picked it up. About 2 weeks after I got it, I noticed that the dashboard was vibrating and that was not anything that was happening when I purchased it. I thought it might just be loose. I’m only 5 feet tall so I could not see over the domed instrument panel when driving. It was only when my daughter drove it that she was the one who noticed the very large crack. It’s cracked on both sides with the largest being on the driver’s side. The crack covers the entire dashboard from the windshield to the dome over the instrument panel. I feel that this is a serious safety issue. I have recently discovered that there was a lawsuit against GM asking for these vehicles to be recalled for this problem. Apparently it happens quite a bit!! I called the dealership that repaired the airbag issue but of course they couldn’t or wouldn’t help me. I know these dashboards are expensive to replace..upwards of $2000. I wanted to file a complaint because as I said earlier, this is a safety concern for me. Can you help?
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2018-04-27
- VIN: 1GNSKCE05ER
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: Similar to many other complaints previously filed, the dash board on my 2014 Tahoe has numerous cracks. The cracks were first identified in April 2018 and have continued to grow in size and number. It has been inspected by a Riverside Chevrolet in Wetumpka, AL but this is not a part of a current safety recall. There is significant and growing concern that if the vehicle is involved in an accident that the passenger-side airbag will not work properly (having been cut by sharp pieces of the broken dash) or will propel pieces of the dash toward the occupants of the vehicle. This needs to be investigated so that GM will be forced to issue a safety recall for this known problem.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-04-10
- VIN: 1GNSCBE01ER

- Summary: I AM WRITING TO YOU ASKING FOR ASSISTANCE IN REPLACEMENT OF MY DASHBOARD . I USE THE OCTOBER DATE AS WE HAVE NOTICED THE CRACKS OVER THE LAST COUPLE MONTHS. ONE OF THE CRACKS IS DIRECTLY ABOVE WHERE THE PASSENGER AIRBAG IS. I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THERE ARE 10000 MEMBERS ON A CRACKED DASHBOARD SITE ON FACEBOOK. I DO NOT UNDERSTAND WHY GM DOES NOT STAND BEHIND THIS. I AM CONCERNED IF THE AIRBAG DEPLOYS AND SOMEONE IS IN THE PASSENGER SEAT THEY CAN BE IMPAILEDED WITH HARD PIECES OF PLASTIC. I LOVE MY 2014 TAHOE LTZ AND HAS PLANNED ON TRADING IT IN ON A NEW TAHOE OR SUBURBAN. I AM CONCERNED THAT THIS WILL IMPACT MY RESALE VALUE OF THE VEHICLE AND IM OF THE UNDERSTANDING THAT GENERAL MOTORS WILL NOT STAND BEHIND THIS AND FIX IT. I AM WORKING WITH MY DEALER BUT HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM. I CANNOT REALLY DETERMINE WHETHER THE VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY IN MOTION ETC. I JUST BELIEVE THAT THE CRACKING HAS HAPPENED OVER TIME. I USE A SUN VISOR FOR THE MOST PART AND LIVE IN NORTHERN VIRGINIA SO IT WE DO NOT HAVE EXTREME HEAT FOR THE MOST PART.
SEAT BELTS,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-01
- VIN: 1GNSKBE00ER
- Components: SEAT BELTS,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: WHILE PARKED, THE DRIVER'S FEMALE SEAT BELT BUCKLE END (PART #19121538) FREQUENTLY DOES NOT LATCH. IT USUALLY TAKES MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO LATCH. I VISITED A DEALER ON 11/5/20, TO SEE WHAT THEY WOULD DO. THEY CONTACTED GM, WHO REFUSED TO MAKE ANY REMEDY, STATING IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY, EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. VEHICLE HAS NEVER BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND THERE ARE NO VISIBLE SIGNS OF DAMAGE TO THE BUCKLE END. IT IS PROGRESSIVELY GETTING WORSE TO LATCH. ALSO. THE PARKING BRAKE FAILS TO PROPERLY SECURE THE VEHICLE, EVEN WHEN PUSHED TO THE FLOOR. PROBABLY A POOR DESIGN, EVEN WHEN ADJUSTED PROPERLY.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2019-07-01
- VIN: 1GNSKCE05ER
- Components: UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: THE DASHBOARD IN MY VEHICLE LIKE MANY OTHER PEOPLES DASHBOARD HAS CRACKED COMPLETELY. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS A HUGE PROBLEM WITH ALL 2014 CHEVY TAHOE'S. I BELIEVE GM SHOULD FIX THIS PROBLEM FOR ME AND ALL THE OTHERS AFFECTED. THIS WILL COST ME A SUBSTANTIAL AMOUNT OF MONEY TO BE FIXED AND NOTHING WAS DONE OTHER THAN ME DRIVING AND PARKING MY CAR. I READ THIS COULD AFFECT MY AIRBAGS AS WELL.

My wife and I recently leased a 2011 Tahoe LT 4X4, which we chose to replace our 2006 Grand Cherokee Limited (w/ Hemi) due to our expanding family. We are really impressed with the exterior styling and the powertrain seems to be very good. The Luxury Package, which includes 20-inch wheels, really adds to the overall look of the SUV. The ride is excellent and we are looking forward to taking it on a long trip. However, we do have a few suggestions for interior tweaks, such as adding storage 'bins' on the sides of the truck area and a coin holder in the console. It's surprising that a $50k SUV does not have a coin holder. Additionally, a larger rear-view mirror would be beneficial.

I'm so glad to hear that you got a new Tahoe to replace your problematic Chrysler Aspen in July! It sounds like the truck has been performing really well for you so far. The ride is smooth and quiet, and the leather seats are super comfortable. It's great to hear that it handles off-roading pretty well too. I know you use this vehicle a lot for long distance trips, so I'm really happy to hear that it's one of the most pleasant drives you've ever experienced. I totally understand that better mileage would be nice, but with a 6000 pound car boasting an 8 cylinder, there's not much you can do. The interior sounds perfect, with only minor flaws. I do agree that the 3rd row seat not folding into the floor can be a bit of a nuisance, but overall it sounds like a fantastic truck. The exterior looks bold and intimidating, which is always a plus. Thanks for sharing your experience with me!

I drove this vehicle for a little less than a year and I must say, it was an absolute pleasure. I purchased it with 26k miles and traded it in with 60k, and throughout that time, it never let me down. The truck got reasonable gas mileage for its size and was incredibly reliable. I never had a single issue with it, and the stock tires were still in great condition when I traded it in, with probably another 10k miles left in them. I even towed a 5k lb boat/trailer with ease. I highly recommend buying one!!

I recently traded in my 2011 BMW X5 for a 2014 Tahoe. While at the dealership, the staff complimented my X5, but I'm excited to have fun with my new Chevrolet box. So far, my Tahoe has been riding awesomely even after almost 10 years and 210,000 miles. I've only had to make repairs once, which was a transmission and cable overhaul at 200,000 miles that cost me $6,000. My last car payment on this 0% loan was in January 2019, so I'm playing with house money. My mechanic even told me that I can expect another 5 to 6 years with it. If I ever decide to sell it, my mechanic is willing to buy it from me. I hope to pass it down to my 9-year-old daughter who used it as a dollhouse for many years, so she can learn to drive with it. The only minor complaints I have are that the top wiper speed is not fast enough for very heavy rainfall and the third-row seats are heavy. Overall, this is a simple, tough, reliable, and comfortable ride that I plan to drive until the wheels fall off. As a side note, I also have a Tesla Y as my second car, but after three years, I can't wait to get rid of it.
-
Nothing wrong! This is the best vehicle we have ever owned. Of course, we don't use it in snowy or rainy weather.

Hi there! I recently bought a 2013 Chevy Tahoe and have been enjoying driving it. However, I noticed that the steering column is not centered to the seat and my body. I took it back to the dealer, but unfortunately they were not able to fix the issue. I then went to another dealer who confirmed that this is a common problem with large SUVs. I was wondering if anyone else has experienced this issue? Despite this problem, I still really like the way it rides. I am considering appealing to the lemon law, but would love to hear any advice or experiences from others. Thanks!

I bought my car with 55,000 miles on it and a cracked dash. When I asked the dealer about it, they said that it's a common issue with these trucks. However, I decided to do some research and found out that a new dash would cost $650 in Texas. Luckily, my local dealership was willing to replace it for free, even though my truck was out of warranty. Unfortunately, not all owners have been as fortunate. There is a Facebook page and class action lawsuit dedicated to the issue of GM's unwillingness to acknowledge the defect in the 07-13 dashes. The cracks always appear behind the instrument panel and in the upper left-hand side of the airbag compartment. I hope that GM will do the right thing and recall these dashes, as this will be my last Tahoe until they do.

This SUV will get you from point A to point B. However, compared to other SUVs in the same year and price range, it may be in need of an upgrade. Chevy did address many of these comfort issues with the new body style in 2015, but the 2014 model is quite basic. The Bluetooth and electronics were outdated, and the noise levels were poor. While the vehicle was reliable, it wasn't as comfortable as other 2014 SUVs I've driven. Unfortunately, there were a few aggravating issues such as a cracked dashboard within the first 40,000 miles and a broken door handle at 85,000 miles. One thing I found inconvenient was the backup camera being located in the rearview mirror, which could be blinding at night when backing up with a trailer. However, overall, this SUV is a dependable choice for getting around.
