1999 Chevrolet Tahoe problems
The Chevrolet Tahoe, and its badge-engineered GMC Yukon counterpart, are full-size SUVs and other trucks from General Motors, offered since 1994 and 1991, respectively. Since 1982, Chevrolet and GMC sold two different-sized SUVs under their "Blazer" and "Jimmy" nameplates, by introducing the smaller S-10 Blazer and GMC S-15 Jimmy for the 1983 model year, below the full-size Blazer and Jimmy models. This situation lasted into the early 1990s. GMC first rebadged the full-size Jimmy as the "Yukon" in 1991. Chevrolet however waited until 1994, when they rebadged the redesigned mid-size S-10 Blazer the "new Blazer," while renaming the full-size Blazer as the "Tahoe." The name Tahoe refers to the rugged and scenic area surrounding Lake Tahoe in the western United States, and was originally used as a trim level on S-10 models. The name Yukon refers to the Yukon territory of northern Canada.
For the 1995 model year, the Tahoe and Yukon gained a new, longer four-door model, slotting in size between the two-door models and the longer-wheelbase Chevrolet/GMC Suburbans.
The Tahoe is sold in North America, parts of Asia such as the Philippines, and the Middle East, plus other countries including Bolivia, Chile, Peru, Colombia, Ecuador, and Angola as a left-hand-drive vehicle. The Yukon is only sold in North America and the Middle East.
The Chevrolet Tahoe and GMC Yukon are part of General Motors' full-size SUV family and are differentiated from the similar Chevrolet Suburban and GMC Yukon XL primarily by the length of the passenger and cargo area behind the C-pillar. An upscale trim GMC Denali sub-model joined the Yukon lineup as the top-of-the-line trim for the 1999 model year; the Cadillac Escalade is a closely related upscale version sharing the same platform. The Denali is available on both standard and XL versions.
The Tahoe has regularly been the best-selling full-size SUV in the United States, frequently outselling its competition by two to one.

Pros: This vehicle offers a smooth ride, especially the 4X4 models. It also has plenty of power and cargo space. The AutoTrac system is exceptional in providing stability on slick surfaces and allows for the economy of 2WD. The tailgate provides maximum flexibility for recreation, and the interior is ergonomically excellent. Cons: It is important to note that the production quality in Aug '99, after the UAW strike, was very poor. Fit and finish problems were obvious, and mechanical problems surfaced. Therefore, it is highly recommended to purchase an extended warranty. Overall: I have found this vehicle to be a joy to own. However, I would only recommend it if you plan to purchase a warranty.

Your truck looks great! It's rare to see a 2-door on the road these days. I noticed that in the 105K miles you've driven it, you've had a few issues. The mass airflow sensor seems to be quite delicate and can be affected by grime, which can be frustrating since it can't be cleaned and needs to be replaced at a cost of $400. The K/N air filter can also cause problems. The transfer case sensors and ball bearings wore out quickly, which may be due to the auto 4x4 that you use a lot in CO. The brakes and steering can feel a bit mushy, but overall it's a great truck. I also love your 1970 K5, which seems to last forever!
-
I really love this ride! With 117000 miles on it, I've only had to deal with the dreaded clunk when starting from a complete stop. I took it to my local mechanic and he found a front universal joint going out, but everything else looked fine. It pulls trailers effortlessly and is comfortable enough to take a nap in on long trips where you need to stop for a quick nap. I bought the car when it had 75000 miles on it. It was a lease up in Michigan, so there's some rust on the bumpers and interior seat bolts, but nothing major. I wonder what happened to the standard undercoating all cars used to get? I guess that stopped in the 70's. LOL!

Your Tahoe sounds like a fantastic truck! It's great to hear that it has been so reliable for you, with only a few minor repairs needed. The comfort and handling of the Tahoe seem to be top-notch, and it's impressive that it has been able to tow your boat with ease. The fuel efficiency is also quite impressive for a vehicle of its size. It's clear that you take good care of your truck and it has served you well. Thanks for sharing your positive experience with us!

This truck has been in my family since it was new. My mom owned it until last year when I took it over. We've put approximately 97k miles on it and it has never had any major issues. The heated seats have burnt out and the seats themselves only recline to one position, but fortunately that position works for me. The inside is comfortable, which is a big plus for me since I'm 6'4

We initially fell in love with the style and the ample space for hauling sports equipment. However, we encountered some unexpected challenges with the car that caused us some frustration. Unfortunately, we had to invest in several repairs, including a new transmission, steering and fuel pump, and locks that all broke at the same time. We also had to fix the sagging doors, among other things. Although the car still needs some work, we have decided to move on from it due to financial constraints. Overall, it was not the best experience, but we appreciate the memories we made with it.

I have owned this vehicle for over two years and overall, it has been a decent experience. Although I initially had reservations about returning to Chevy, I needed a spacious car to accommodate my kids and belongings for trips. However, I have encountered some issues with the design and construction of the car, such as doors that vibrate and don't seal tightly, anti-lock brakes that seldom work, and a fuel pump that failed while I was visiting friends in another state. Thankfully, I had purchased an extended warranty and saved over $500 on the repair bill! While I had hoped to drive this Tahoe for a long time, with only 88,000 miles, it seems like it may not last as long as I had hoped.

I recently sold my 99 Tahoe. I had the exact clunk that many have written about. The dealer greased, replaced u-joints, and replaced the yoke. This made the clunk go away for about 3000 miles, but unfortunately, it came back again. I was told that there was nothing more that Chevrolet was willing to do. It's frustrating, but I'm considering buying an Expedition instead.

I purchased this vehicle from my brother-in-law in June 2008, despite it having 200,000 miles on it. It had been driven carefully and well-maintained, with most of the miles being highway miles. Since then, we have put approximately 5,000 miles on it. Unfortunately, in November, the engine threw a rod and was beyond repair. We had to purchase a new engine from NAPA for around $2,200, which was installed by a GM dealership. Since then, we have had to replace two intake gaskets, and now it has blown a head gasket. All in all, we have spent almost $5,000 on repairs for a vehicle that we purchased for $6,000. It is disappointing to have experienced these issues with a vehicle from such a great American auto company.

I purchased a car with 48000 miles on it, and it looked and ran great. However, I have had to replace the front brakes three times in 40000 miles, and the manifold gasket. Unfortunately, the engine failed when a rod dropped at 72000 miles, resulting in a blown engine. The cost of ownership has been higher than any other vehicle I have owned in the past 30 years. Although the resale value is dropping, I would not consider purchasing another one. Despite recorded oil changes and maintenance, GM was unable to assist with the engine problem. In conclusion, I will not be purchasing this vehicle again.
