Nissan Pathfinder problems

The Nissan Pathfinder is a range of sport utility vehicles manufactured by Nissan since 1986. Until the third-generation model, the Pathfinder is based on Nissan's compact pickup truck platform which it shares with the Navara/Frontier. The front end of the D21 (first generation) and R51 (third generation) Pathfinder is notably identical with the Navara/Frontier up until the B-pillars.
The Pathfinder was marketed as the Nissan Terrano (Japanese: 日産・テラノ, Hepburn: Nissan Terano) outside North America. Beginning in 2004, the R51 series was marketed internationally as the Pathfinder.
In 2012, the R52 series Pathfinder was released as a three-row crossover SUV based on the unibody Nissan D platform, moving away from the body-on-frame chassis format. The role of a mid-size body-on-frame SUV in Nissan's global lineup was passed to the Terra/X-Terra, which was released in 2018 and based on the D23 series Navara.

Common Nissan Pathfinder problems
The Nissan Pathfinder, a crossover/SUV produced since 1986, is known for its reliability. However, like any vehicle, it has faced certain issues over the years. This article, based on search results, outlines common problems with the Nissan Pathfinder, focusing on complaints from owners and available solutions.
- Navigation system problems: The 2017 Pathfinder has been reported to have issues with the navigation display, including freezing controls, a stuck backup camera, and a malfunctioning reverse assist display.
- Transmission issues: The 2005-2010 model years, in particular, have faced transmission problems. The automatic transmissions may fail around 90,000 miles due to a crack in the oil cooler tube, causing coolant to leak into the transmission system.
- Climate system failure: A/C and heating system issues have been reported by many 2015 Pathfinder owners. The climate system may refuse to work, causing significant problems during extreme temperatures.
- CVT issues: Nissan's CVT issues have been widespread, affecting the Pathfinder's transmission system. The CVT system has been reported to be slow to respond, overheat easily, and shutter while accelerating. This can be a safety risk during highway merges and may cause constant stuttering.
- Timing chain issues: Pathfinder owners have reported issues with the timing chain guides, shoes, and tensioners. A loose timing chain can cause rattling or acceleration issues, and even lead to engine failure.
- Engine stalled and doesn't restart: This issue is caused by contaminated contacts in the engine control module (ECM) and the ignition relay in the IPDM. The ECM and the ignition relay will need to be replaced, which is a fiddly DIY job, but can be done with the right parts and online guides.
- Driver's power seat harness fault: The driver's power seat harness can become trapped between the seat lifter mechanism and the metal seat bracket. If left unattended, this can cause damage to the harness and potentially lead to accidents. Separating the harness from where it's trapped or replacing it with a new one can resolve the issue.
- Whining power steering: This issue, which Nissan is largely ignoring, can be resolved by fitting a new insulator on the power steering module. Some drivers have managed to fix the problem this way.
- Gearbox shuddering: This issue, which is a computer programming problem, can be resolved by having the computer checked and software updated at a Nissan dealer.
- Fuel and temp gauges problems: This issue is caused by a failure with the voltage regulator behind the dashboard. Replacing the voltage regulator will sort the problem out.
- Timing chain wear: Later models of the Pathfinder are prone to premature timing chain wear, usually around the 102,000-mile point. Replacing a worn timing chain is a big job, but it's more wallet-friendly to order a new belt and fit it yourself than hand the car over to a mechanic.
- Brake pedal issues: Some Pathfinders have a defect that causes the clevis pin to come loose from the brake pedal and brake booster input rod assembly. This can be resolved by reattaching the clevis pin and securing it into place with a new clip.
In conclusion, while the Nissan Pathfinder is generally a reliable vehicle, certain model years and issues have been reported by owners. Regular maintenance and addressing these issues promptly can help ensure the longevity and reliability of the Pathfinder.

I was very lucky that nothing happened, but I'm very concerned about driving this vehicle and the potential danger it poses to myself and others if this happens again. I believe this is a serious issue and should be looked into with urgency. I've attached pictures of where the pedal snapped off. It appears to be a cheaply made piece of plastic that completely broke off. There is another picture with the pedal intact and circled in red, you can see an indentation towards the top of the pedal. This is where I believe the pedal broke off from.

Looking for a mid-size SUV with 4WD and a full tow package that can tow at least 5,000 lbs? The 2019 Pathfinder might just be the perfect fit for you! With a tow capability of 6,000 lbs, the Pathfinder Platinum is fully loaded with options and offers great value. I compared it to other vehicles like the Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland, Infinity QX60 LUX, and Buick Enclave Premium, but the Pathfinder stood out with its solid and comfortable drive, great handling, and impressive towing capabilities. The third row seats are also spacious and comfortable. After owning my 2019 Pathfinder for six months, I can confidently say that it's a great investment. I highly recommend the Nissan Pathfinder for its quality, options, and value. (Update) After almost a year of owning my 2019 Pathfinder Platinum, I am still very happy with my purchase. The vehicle has a smooth ride even on rough roads and is very nimble. It's a great choice for long trips and the Bose Audio system is a nice touch.

This is my second Pathfinder. The first one was a 2006 and was leased. After that, I had a Murano but I wasn't in love with it, and I missed the Pathfinder. So, here I am with a 2011 Pathfinder Silver. It's great! I really like the improvements made to the heating and radio controls. The interior quality is there and the styling is nice. I'm averaging about 18 MPG in the city, even though it's rated at 15 MPG. It's great on the highway, very smooth and quiet. I've read reviews by car magazines that criticized the rough ride, but I'm not sure where they were driving because I think it's fine. Remember, it's an SUV, not a Cadillac!

I use 87 octane gas and have been doing so since 8/14/10. I have not noticed any problems with using regular gas. In the city, I average around 16 miles per gallon. The ride is quiet and compliant. This car is a great value for your dollar.

The Pathfinder offers great value for its price, especially when compared to other vehicles in its class. I really enjoyed the ride, maneuverability, and acceleration, and it handled the recent snowfall with ease. Even on the mountain roads between my home in N. Nevada and California, the Pathfinder felt peppy and responsive.

I bought it as a second car for use in snowy conditions. I love to use it as my first option now! Amazingly nice handling (for SUV) and extremely reliable. It has had no problems and other than scheduled maintenance, has needed no mechanic shop visits, despite the 110k on it. Absolutely fantastic piece of machinery.

Vehicle year: 2020
The SUV is a solid vehicle that performs well in heavy wind and rain in Florida. Although the AC compressor can be a little loud at times, it is a reliable car with low maintenance costs. The headset for Bluetooth is a great feature that allows for clear phone calls while driving. The CVT is hardly noticeable during normal acceleration, but may be more noticeable during spirited driving. It is important to note that the base trim tires are not the best and may squeal. While the vehicle may take a bit to warm up and fall into overdrive in colder weather, it is still a dependable car. Unfortunately, the infotainment system malfunctioned twice and the software had to be reset, and then replaced. Additionally, the steering column had some issues that made it difficult to turn the wheel after starting the vehicle. Despite these issues, I am now happy with my Highlander. Although Nissan let me down, I am still confident in my decision to switch to a different brand.

Vehicle year: 2020
I recently drove the 2020 Pathfinder from San Diego to San Francisco and had an interesting experience with the Infotainment system. While driving up I-5 from Magic Mountain to Altamont Pass, I found that only the basic functions were intuitive. It wasn't until I returned the rental that I discovered the Trip Reset activator. The mileage, performance, G-Pulls, and Eco-Helper were all very convoluted. Additionally, I found the leather front seats to be overly hard, almost like bleachers, after just two hours. On the plus side, the acceleration was good and I was impressed by the 28.5 MPG on mostly freeway driving. However, the cargo space was limited due to the rise in the rear seats. Overall, I would lean towards the Explorer or the classy, value-driven Telluride. Hope this helps!

Seriously, I know people buy SUV's for a lot of different reasons, but as far as bang for the buck, I think the Pathfinder is by far the best buy. It's got a pretty powerful v6, great torque. The SE model I have has a nice little roar to the v6. Decent acceleration, great power. The 4x4 has great power. I crossed a snow covered medium going 60 miles/hr on 4x4 high, passing a slow car, like it was nothing, with no loss of control whatsoever. It's great in bad weather. Very reliable car. Maintenance and maintenance costs are minimal. Decent gas mileage for a high performance suv. Fun car. I love the look of it, and am sad about more boxy bulky look on the new models.

I purchased my Pathfinder in 1996 with only 25,000 miles, but unfortunately, I have experienced a number of frustrating problems with expensive repair bills. Despite replacing the transmission twice and dealing with many electrical issues, I still appreciate the style of the Pathfinder. I am curious if newer models have fewer mechanical problems. However, I must say that I do not feel very stable around corners and the spare tire inside takes up a lot of cargo space. Additionally, the lack of functional drink holders and the spring-loaded rear door that crashes down unless held up can be quite inconvenient. Overall, I remain confident in my assessment of the mechanical issues I have experienced with my Pathfinder.

Vehicle year: 2013
After only 2 months and 1600 miles, we experienced a cracked valve cover that caused oil to spill all over our driveway. Despite the mechanic at the dealership verifying the issue, Nissan's official response was that this is simply the way the CVT works. However, we are determined to get our money back based on this problem and response alone. Additionally, we are now also experiencing the well-known 'Jutter' problem that many others have complained about.
