1994 Nissan Pathfinder problems

nissan logo

The Nissan Pathfinder is a range of sport utility vehicles manufactured by Nissan since 1986. Until the third-generation model, the Pathfinder is based on Nissan's compact pickup truck platform which it shares with the Navara/Frontier. The front end of the D21 (first generation) and R51 (third generation) Pathfinder is notably identical with the Navara/Frontier up until the B-pillars.

The Pathfinder was marketed as the Nissan Terrano (Japanese: 日産・テラノ, Hepburn: Nissan Terano) outside North America. Beginning in 2004, the R51 series was marketed internationally as the Pathfinder.

In 2012, the R52 series Pathfinder was released as a three-row crossover SUV based on the unibody Nissan D platform, moving away from the body-on-frame chassis format. The role of a mid-size body-on-frame SUV in Nissan's global lineup was passed to the Terra/X-Terra, which was released in 2018 and based on the D23 series Navara.

Negative 1994 Nissan Pathfinder car reviews

  1. Aidan Gulgowski 2024-11-02

We've been really happy with our '94 Pathfinder XE. Though it's the base model, it is loaded with many convenience features that make living with it day to day a treat. My family and I use it primarily for camping and light off-roading--and it serves our needs just fine.

  2. Sigurd Langworth 2024-10-27

My original intent for purchasing this vehicle was for light-medium off roading, and camping. It serves that purpose well. The Pathfinder is very reliable and easy to work on. I would definitely recommend this vehicle to anyone looking for an inexpensive and reliable SUV.

  3. Avery Spinka 2024-09-23

Although it passed CA smog originally, I had a less than satisfactory experience with the can I owned. Despite my efforts to fix the hesitation on acceleration, no shop or dealer was able to solve the issue. Additionally, I found the driving position uncomfortable and the ride quality poor. The brakes were sub-par and the front shocks were changed three times with no improvement in ride quality. The can also had terrible bump-steer on the freeway and lots of squeaks and rattles. On the plus side, it had nice wheels and the AC worked well. However, I was ultimately happy to get rid of it due to its overall performance.

  4. Shayne Kuhlman 2024-04-02

I'm glad to hear that you're happy with it! If you need any maintenance, just let us know and we'll take care of it for you.

  5. Sigmund Feeney 2024-03-29

I purchased a used Pathfinder in 1998 with 80k miles on it, and it looked sharp. Despite the initial appearance, the vehicle had several issues, including problems with the brakes, transmission, starter, and running boards rusting off.

Positive 1994 Nissan Pathfinder car reviews

  1. Vincenzo Boyer 2025-01-09

Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 1994 Nissan Pathfinder. It was actually passed down to me from my brother a few years ago and I've been loving it ever since! With almost 200,000 miles on it, I've only had to do regular maintenance and fix a cracked exhaust manifold (which only cost me $400). This truck is amazing off-road, great for city driving, and even works well on the highway. I use it for work, commuting, and even off-road driving in the mountains when I go biking. It's been such a reliable and versatile vehicle for me!

  2. Chadd Schmitt 2024-10-28

This vehicle is the real deal! It's a body-on-frame SUV, not just a fancy 4WD station wagon. I've had mine since it was new and it's got 210K miles on it, but I haven't had any major problems yet. If you've kept up with the preventative maintenance, then you should definitely consider buying one!

  3. Evert Flatley 2024-09-23

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share that I really enjoy my Pathfinder, although I recently had to replace a tire. It's a great vehicle for camping trips, with plenty of room inside. Additionally, I've found that it gets good gas mileage when driving at 55 mph on the highway!

  4. Gordon Gutkowski 2024-09-19

Our Pathfinder has been such a great car that we're considering getting another one! The only downside is the mileage, but that's to be expected with any SUV of that size. And even after all these years, it still looks fantastic!

  5. Rodrick DuBuque 2024-09-04

I love this truck! It runs great, looks great, and is very reliable. However, I am a bit confused about something. Why is the frame rotted out above both rear tires at only 10 years old? This shouldn't happen. I can understand the body rusting, but not the main steel frame.
