2022 Nissan Pathfinder problems
The Nissan Pathfinder is a range of sport utility vehicles manufactured by Nissan since 1986. Until the third-generation model, the Pathfinder is based on Nissan's compact pickup truck platform which it shares with the Navara/Frontier. The front end of the D21 (first generation) and R51 (third generation) Pathfinder is notably identical with the Navara/Frontier up until the B-pillars.
The Pathfinder was marketed as the Nissan Terrano (Japanese: 日産・テラノ, Hepburn: Nissan Terano) outside North America. Beginning in 2004, the R51 series was marketed internationally as the Pathfinder.
In 2012, the R52 series Pathfinder was released as a three-row crossover SUV based on the unibody Nissan D platform, moving away from the body-on-frame chassis format. The role of a mid-size body-on-frame SUV in Nissan's global lineup was passed to the Terra/X-Terra, which was released in 2018 and based on the D23 series Navara.

Common 2022 Nissan Pathfinder problems
The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder has been reported to have several issues based on complaints from owners. These problems include:
- Technology malfunctions: The new technology features in the 2022 Nissan Pathfinder have been criticized for working poorly. The auto engine stop feature has been reported to start prematurely or stop and restart the engine while sitting still, causing discomfort in stop-and-go traffic and parking garages. The auto hold feature has been reported to make the car lunge forward when restarting, and the driver assist feature has been reported to push the car too close to the driver's side edge of the lane, making it feel unsafe.
- Sun visor leaks: Some owners have reported that their sun visors leak when it rains, causing water to drip down onto the driver's side.
- Randomly shifting to park: Some owners have reported that their cars randomly shift to park while driving or trying to shift into drive or reverse. This issue can be frustrating and dangerous as it can cause accidents and make the car hard to control.
- Malfunction Indicator Light: Some owners have reported that the Malfunction Indicator Light comes on intermittently, and the dealership has been unable to diagnose the problem. The car is currently at the dealership with no solution.
- Infotainment system issues: Several owners have reported issues with the infotainment system, including the screen freezing up, going blank, and rebooting randomly. There is no consistent circumstance that causes this issue. The phone also does not always automatically pair with the car, and some apps do not work with Apple Car Play.
These issues have caused frustration and dissatisfaction among owners, with some considering selling their cars due to the poor quality of the technology features. The 2022 Nissan Pathfinder has also been reported to have several recalls related to welds, rattling interior parts, and software/computer issues.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-30
- VIN: 5N1DR3CB6NC
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: My 2022 Pathfinder had 34,725 miles on it when I left for the grocery store, on the way while driving on the highway I got an alert on my dash saying "check shift level position", which that seemed normal & fine, and vehicle was still driving normally at this point. That alert then went away as I was driving a moment or two later ( however I did get a photo of it). A very few moments later, I was driving along and the vehicle suddenly shifted into N(eutral)! I pulled over, shifted into park, turned off the car, restarted it, and the check engine light was on. However I shifted the car into D(rive) and proceeded to try to get back home, car seemed to be driving normally, but then no, it began again, the car suddenly shifted into N again as I was driving. I tried pulling over and restarting the vehicle again, but the same thing happened again. I decided to have my passenger take a video of our drive home so that it could be easily shown to the dealer what was happening, that way there would be no question of if the dealer could replicate the issue or not. During our aprox 6:07 minute trip home, it happened another 5 times! Once I was home I found that I had a email from MyNissan saying that there may possibly be an issue with my vehicle emmisions system. My husband has a code reader and he plugged into it and it showed a code of P0742, which is ("torque converter clutch circuit stuck on"). So the next morning 10/01/24 I called my dealership and spoke to service and let them know what was going on and that it needed to come in, I explained however that I would not be loaded my 3 kids in the car and making that hour + trip up there driving the car as this is a HUGE safety hazard. I had the vehicle towed to the dealership. The next day the dealer did reach out to me and tell me they plugged into it, saw the P0742 code, but "didn't know what to do with that", so they were calling the Nissan "TechLine".
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM

Before I had a chance to press the brake, the vehicle shifted into neutral on it own without the shift level being touch and a steady Malfunction Indicator Light came on. At this point the traffic began speeding up and I was unable to accelerate until I manually shifted the vehicle back into drive.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-01
- VIN: 5N1DR3BB9NC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: When attempting to put my vehicle in park by pressing the park button on the gear shift, a large red alert popped up on the dash that said "when parked, use emergency brake", and instead of shifting into park, shifted into neutral, where the car then rolled until I applied pressure on the brake. At this time, the car nearly rolled over my young child as it was not expected for the vehicle to roll after being put into park. There were no warning lights or messages prior to this occurring. It was then found that there has been a service bulletin out regarding a shifter issue with this model vehicle. I took the vehicle to a Nissan dealership where I paid $230 for diagnostics, where they confirmed that the issue was directly related to the service bulletin, but that they would not repair the vehicle as my car was out of warranty, even though it is only two years old. They suggested I reach out to Nissan North America Consumer Affairs to request payment outside of a manufacturer warranty, where they opened a case, and ultimately denied any assistance in repairing the defect that has been found to be known about for nearly a decade, yet they keep making vehicles with the same defective issue.

While driving the vehicle we hit a bump in the road which then launched the back passenger seat up and forward pinning my child between the two seats. His face smashed into the front passenger seat headrest which caused forced injury to his head. The EZ seat button could not have been reached by my child due to them being in a car seat. This has been reported to the manufacture of Nissan. There are no warnings for this feature.

POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-10
- VIN: 5N1DR3DH7NC
- Components: POWER TRAIN,VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: I have had 2 major and one minor incident with my 2022 Pathfinder. I bought it certified preowned Jan 2023 with 21k miles. At 23k miles- end of the same month it was purchased- the vehicle decelerated from 75mph to 35mph on the interstate. The dealership sent a towing truck to pick it up next day and they diagnosed the problem to be a dead battery- the lights on the car remained on all night but if it was the battery then the car would have not even been on. Dealership failed to dig deeper. At 57k miles on May 3rd 2024 after being at the public park for an hour with my daughter the car would not start, warning lights were on the screen such as a malfunction warning. The dealership sent a tow truck and they kept the car for 3 days. We picked it up on a Monday and on Friday May 10th while driving on the interstate, the car decelerated from 75mph to almost nothing, I barely made it off of the exit. They towed it once again and this time we were told the issue was a bad mass airflow sensor. It was replaced and a week later we got another malfunction warning while parked on a sunny day. Currently in arbitration with Nissan. They fail to recognize this is a safety issue and no matter what they say the "cause" is, the same issue keeps happening on the interstate. Nissan is not taking it seriously and they want to give me 3,500 for the "inconvenience" I keep telling them I do not feel safe in this vehicle. I was told the car is outside Lemon Law timeframe. I brought up other NHTSA complaints that are like mine and still haven't heard from them, it has been 5 days. I would like for this safety concern to be taken seriously. It has put me and my family in danger as well as others.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-10
- VIN: 5N1DR3AC1NC
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: It appears the rear brake pads degrade over a short amount of usage. My vehicle currently has approximately 28,000 miles and I have had to replace the rear pads twice. Once at 13k miles and another at 27,500 miles. Car vibrates violently upon heavy braking. This seems to be a known issue with the manufacturer; however, no recalls have been issued.
POWER TRAIN,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-13
- VIN: 5N1DR3DJ2NC
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE
- Summary: On numerous occasions while cruising at highway speeds ability to accelerate disengages. There is no ability to accelerate and RPMs drop, car loses speed until transmission and acceleration re-engages. When the car does this you are unable to shift gears to attempt to engage and the vehicle still shows as though it is in drive. Vehicle has gone to dealer service numerous times and they are unable to replicate the issue and allege that there are no “codes” in the computer. They are reluctant to dive deeper into the issue despite the fact that this is a safety issue.

Nissan has failed to fix the issue multiple times. My safety as well as others are at risk for possible shock or getting electrocuted with water leaking by enclosed wires. The issue was confirmed by Nissan Service Center. I did get Nissan Consumer Affairs involved, and they were absolutely no help. I'm paying for a vehicle that has a manufacturer's issue but Nissan refusals to fix it. But they can't fix it because they don't know what is causing the issue. I have provided a full detail in the attached documents
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM

The contact stated that while the vehicle was at the dealer for a service appointment, the contact was informed that the rear brakes needed to be replaced. The contact was informed that when the front brakes were applied, the rear brakes constantly made contact with the front brakes which caused the rear brakes to wear down, unusually faster. Additionally, the contact stated that the dealer agreed that the failure was due to a manufacturer defect within the design of the vehicle. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and the repair fee for the rear brake replacement was refunded. The failure mileage was approximately 30,517. The VIN was unavailable.

SEATS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
- VIN: 5N1DR3BC0NC
- Components: SEATS
- Summary: The drivers side heated seat has stopped working. My car is no longer under warranty so I decided to research this. When researching this topic, A LOT of other people have discussed having the same exact issue with the same exact seat. In fact, there are people who have discussed having their heated seat fixed and even THAT stops working. I do not want to spend money on an issue that is a consistent problem, on top of being a issue after being fixed. This issue began happening around 37,000 miles, right after my warranty expired. There were no warning signs. I also worry with it being a faulty product, will the electrical component of it catch fire.
FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-01-22
- VIN: 5N1DR3AC1NC
- Components: FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: When refueling, gas pump stops prematurely before reaching full. Has happened on multiple occasions and and different gas stations. Vehicle only has 19k miles. I brought the vehicle into a Nissan dealership for further diagnosis but they could not identify the cause of the issue.
WHEELS,SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-28
- VIN: 5N1DR3BD2NC
- Components: WHEELS,SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I have tried working with the dealer and Nissan on this issue, with no success. I don't know where else to turn because searching forums there are hundreds of posts from other Pathfinder owners reporting the same defects in their vehicles. I filed a complaint with Nissan Consumer affairs and they insist my issue is simply wear and tear of the vehicle, which is not acceptable. My 2022 Nissan Pathfinder, as well as hundreds others report that their vehicle are requiring new brakes as well as new tires within 20,000 miles of purchasing the vehicle brand new. When my dealer notified me of the issue I questioned them, to which they also recognized it wasn't right and something has been wrong since the re-design of this vehicle. They also said they can't do anything except recommend replacement, it has to be up to Nissan to acknowledge they have something faulty in the design or mechanics that is causing these components to go bad well below manufacturer specs. When contacting Nissan Consumer Affairs I attempted to explain to them that this wasn't normal, these systems should not be replaced within 20,000 miles of a new purchase. They however discounted me and said it was simple wear and tear, that's how it is. I find it hard to believe myself and hundreds of others who have purchased these vehicles should have to pay for these replacements when it's clearly a design or mechanical flaw from Nissan. I know this may not be the right department to go to, but I'm not sure where else to turn for help in getting Nissan to publicly acknowledge this.
SERVICE BRAKES,FORWARD COLLISION AVOIDANCE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-10-01
- VIN: 5N1DR3CB1NC

Wow, this car has been one of the greatest in the Nissan lineup! Starting from 1986 to 2022, it has been a blessing. I have been using a 2005 Nissan Pathfinder for 11 years and still no problems. I just got a 2022 version and it's awesome! Personally, I prefer a Nissan Pathfinder to a Toyota Highlander and I hope you do too.

Lots of great upgrades! The car has good power and a softer feel. I noticed that the turning radius seems to be a bit bigger, but it's still very comfortable with the most headroom I have ever had in any car. There's also lots of space in the back, which is great. Overall, I'm very pleased with my purchase and I think it's well worth the price. However, there are a few minor issues that I've noticed. For example, the rear hatch opens a bit wide and I've accidentally banged it on a few things already. Additionally, the idle stop/start is always on when you start the car, which can be a bit jerky when combined with the auto break function. I wish there was an option to turn it off. Also, the gas door doesn't lock, which makes it too easy for people to siphon gas from the tank. Finally, the alarm goes off if you open the trunk from a distance without unlocking the car. The glovebox is also a bit shallow and small, but there's lots of storage elsewhere so it's not a big deal. Lastly, the platinum level comes with mandatory 2nd row captain seats, but I prefer bench seats so I had to settle for the next level down. Despite these minor issues, I still think it's a great car!

I purchased the 2022 SL Premium 8-passenger SUV in May 2022 and I absolutely love it! The vehicle looks great, handles beautifully, and has plenty of power. The only minor issues I have encountered are that the passenger front seat is a bit low and my wife has a hard time seeing over the dash. Additionally, the door lock sensors don't always work well in wet or cold conditions, especially on the driver's side. However, these are small complaints in the grand scheme of things. For those concerned about the start-stop feature, it can easily be turned off in the menu settings. I have driven just under 7000km so far and I am excited to put on thousands more. I would definitely purchase this vehicle again!

I'm glad to hear that you've been considering mid-size 3-row SUVs! From what you've shared, it sounds like the Nissan Pathfinder is the perfect fit for you. Not only is it stylish and high-performing, but it also comes with great safety features and standard accessories. I completely understand your frustration with hearing about other SUVs like the Palisade and Telluride, but I'm confident that the Pathfinder is the best choice for you. With its sleek design and reliable Nissan quality, you can't go wrong!

I hope you had a great weekend! I noticed that you rented a Pathfinder for a long weekend trip in Boston. Despite the bad weather and lots of snow, the Pathfinder handled all the road conditions like a champ and never spun a tire. The size was great, although it could use a running board as I found myself continually dragging my pant leg getting in or out of the vehicle. The only downside was that the ride was much rougher than we expected. It's definitely not a crossover ride. At home, we drive an Outback and I must say that the Pathfinder just couldn't outdo my love for the Subaru.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with the SUV I purchased in April from the dealership. I've noticed that the car automatically changes from Drive mode to Neutral when you stop at a stop sign, so just be aware of that. Also, it's important to remember not to leave your keys in the car, as it will auto lock on you. Unfortunately, this happened to me at the gas station and at the car wash. When I took it back to the dealership, they weren't able to duplicate the issue. I just wanted to share my experience with you so you can make an informed decision. Thanks for listening!

The Pro Pilot Assist could use some improvement. I found the driver's seat to be uncomfortable and it made my right leg sore after driving for 20 or 30 minutes. Additionally, the transmission shifting was quite abrupt. However, I do appreciate the sleek and stylish appearance of the vehicle.

I was initially pleased with this vehicle upon purchase, but upon sitting inside, I found the seats to be uncomfortably low. While the driver's side height can be adjusted, the passenger side is quite problematic. Additionally, I have experienced some issues with the dash lights flashing on cold mornings, and the touchscreen display occasionally goes black. While the apple carplay feature is a nice touch, it doesn't always work properly, which can be frustrating when trying to answer a call. Furthermore, the display screen has frozen on occasion, making it difficult to hang up a call. I have also noticed that the vehicle is not completely airtight, as wind noise can be quite loud when driving on the highway. Lastly, the heater is quite loud and takes a while to heat up. Overall, while there are some issues with this vehicle, I still find it to be a decent choice.

I purchased this car a week and a half ago, but unfortunately, one of the seat belts for the passengers on the second row seat broke and will not click. This is concerning as it could be a safety issue in the event of an accident. Additionally, the Shift Auto Idle keeps going back to on, even if turned off within the settings, which can be quite annoying. Despite these issues, I took it in today (08/06/2021) to get it looked at and the technicians were very helpful in ordering a new seat belt and taking a look at the Auto Shift Issue when the seat belt arrives. Although I am disappointed with these issues, I still think it's a great midsize car that saves on gas. I may consider trading it in if the issue continues, but I had high hopes for this Pathfinder and was excited to find it in stock at my local Nissan dealer. Thank you for your help in resolving these issues.

My wife and I bought a 2022 Pathfinder Platinum, 4 wheel drive from Classic Nissan in Newport News VA last year. We traded in our 2018 Armada which was too large and made my wife car sick as it swayed so much when going down the road. We had to pay a deposit and wait 2-3 weeks until the vehicle was delivered to the dealership and then pay a large dealer markup above MSRP and then had to get a $1250 vehicle protection spray. However, we have been experiencing some issues with the front passenger seat. Every single person sitting in the front passenger seat complains that it is too low and there is no adjustment. The passenger seat is 7-way adjustable while the driver's seat is 10-way with the capacity to move it up and down. This has caused discomfort and limited visibility for shorter individuals, and taller people do not have enough legroom as the seat sits too low. We have noticed that the 2023 models have the same 10-way seat adjustments on both front seats, which is a great improvement. We have brought this issue to the attention of the dealership, but unfortunately, they have been unresponsive so far. We believe that this issue is not only uncomfortable for everyone but also poses a safety risk, especially for shorter people and children. We urge Nissan to take immediate action and recall this model. We have also found that this issue is widespread, and we hope that Nissan will address it soon.
