2024 Nissan Pathfinder problems
The Nissan Pathfinder is a range of sport utility vehicles manufactured by Nissan since 1986. Until the third-generation model, the Pathfinder is based on Nissan's compact pickup truck platform which it shares with the Navara/Frontier. The front end of the D21 (first generation) and R51 (third generation) Pathfinder is notably identical with the Navara/Frontier up until the B-pillars.
The Pathfinder was marketed as the Nissan Terrano (Japanese: 日産・テラノ, Hepburn: Nissan Terano) outside North America. Beginning in 2004, the R51 series was marketed internationally as the Pathfinder.
In 2012, the R52 series Pathfinder was released as a three-row crossover SUV based on the unibody Nissan D platform, moving away from the body-on-frame chassis format. The role of a mid-size body-on-frame SUV in Nissan's global lineup was passed to the Terra/X-Terra, which was released in 2018 and based on the D23 series Navara.

VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-10-06
- VIN: 5N1DR3CD9RC
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: While merging onto the parkway, the gas pedal snapped off during acceleration. There was no warning at all, it just snapped off when I stepped on the pedal. I was fortunate enough to pull over onto the shoulder of the parkway without incident, but I had no way to accelerate the car if I needed to. I was very lucky that nothing happened, but I'm very concerned about driving this vehicle and the potential danger it poses to myself and others if this happens again. I believe this is a serious issue and should be looked into with urgency. I've attached pictures of where the pedal snapped off. It appears to be a cheaply made piece of plastic that completely broke off. There is another picture with the pedal intact and circled in red, you can see an indentation towards the top of the pedal. This is where I believe the pedal broke off from.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-01
- VIN: 5N1DR3DJ3RC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: Issue with 360 around view monitor. Picture quality for the 4 cameras at night is very poor. Backing up at night is quite challenging as the picture from the cameras are very fuzzy. If something comes from behind like an animal or a child, it is very difficult to see them. The whole purpose of the backup cameras is to increase safety when backing up. Unfortunately I’ve address this issue with two Nissan dealers and was told that this is normal as designed feature. I had several Nissans before and the picture quality was fantastic, until the 2024 Nissan pathfinder. I hope that someone will start the investigation and address this safety issue.
VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-09-16
- VIN: 5N1DR3CC1RC
- Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
- Summary: Since I purchased the 2024 Nissan pathfinder in October 2023 I have had multiple issues with the glass windshield and visibility issues. The problem normally occurs when it rains and a white film comes on the windshield making it sometimes impossible to see while driving the vehicle. The problem gets worse at night if its raining because the glare from the light makes it impossible to see anything while driving. On two occasions while driving the car while raining especially at night I have almost ran off the road because the white film on the windshield was so blurry I couldn't see. I have taken the car back to several Nissan dealers who replaced windshield wipers. The problem has still continued after replacing three sets of windshield wipers blades. The windshield has been washed with Windex and film remover and film still remains. I took the car to Coggin Nissan where it was inspected by service adviser and glass rep. The glass rep stated that it was a after market windshield and not the normal Nissan genuine part. The service advisor stated that all he saw was calcium build up from hard water. In addition there also seems to be an issue with the defrost system not working when this film on the windshield appears. This is a serious safety issue that can cause me to get into a serious accident that could injure myself or others.
EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-02
- VIN: 5N1DR3DK3RC
- Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: Upon purchasing the vehicle, the headlights are not bright enough. There are several threads on reddit talking about this issue. Some people say they are fine, but others are reporting that they have almost hit curbs and other items due to the lack of density. The coverage is far and wide, but the visible light in all conditions is horrible. I had a previous 2021 Nissan Murano with LED headlights and they blew this out of the water. Same for a 2021 Nissan Rogue. The rating on the headlights is not "Good" but "Acceptable." These are unsafe! In snowy weather I could not see the road. I have had to purchase aftermarket lights to supplement the headlights as trading in the vehicle is not financially feasible for us. This needs to be investigated! The dealer is saying they are aimed properly but that Nissan has cut the brightness. This is unsafe! There are a lot of dark areas in the lights. In the photo I have uploaded, my vehicle is aimed down (driveway down on the angled curb) to show the gaps in lighting, so it appears brighter than it actually is). There are a lot of dark spots, etc. too.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-16
- VIN: 5N1DR3CC2RC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: I was at a stop sign the auto start stop was on. The car stopped engine off while at the stop sign. I heard a chime Ive never heard before, pressed gas pedal and didnt move. Realized the car was off and now was in neutral. It took me a couple minutes to get the car back on and continue on my way. This a brand new car at the time had approx 1025 miles on it. I have now made an appt at the dealership to trouble shoot the issue.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-05
- VIN: 5N1DR3DJ6RC
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: when stoped at a stoplight the engine shuts off. when you take your foot off the brake and move to the accelerator, the transmission shifts to neutral. This is very dangerous because it's the last thing you expect and when your on a step hill and rolling backwards it takes a moment to act. If a child or pedestrian was behind the vehicle at that moment or a car up close it could be terrible. I have reported it to the dealership and have an appointment this coming Monday morning to have them address the problem. Not a good situation to be shifted out of gear when in traffic or on hills.
ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-20
- VIN: 5N1DR3CAXRC
- Components: ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: 4 separate times now when driving the vehicle the vehicle has sputtered and died. The first time we were on a road driving at around 40mph and were able to coast into a parking lot. After a few minutes the vehicle restarted a we took it to the dealer the next day. The first 2 occurrences were in January of 2024. The 3rd occurrence was on April 23,2024. At around 9:30 PM, I was on my way home from the store and driving at 55mph when the vehicle suddenly died and was coasting. I was able to coast into an empty school parking lot. The Pathfinder would not restart and had to be towed to the dealership. They replaced the fuel pump and we picked it up on April 29th. The 4th time happened on May 20, 2024. We had just dropped our dogs off at the groomer and as we were leaving their parking lot, the engine suddenly died and would not restart. Since the vehicle does not have a way of putting it into reverse when it is off, we had to try starting it repeatedly until we were able to get it into neutral and then it had to be pushed back into the parking lot and had to be towed from there to the dealership, where it currently sits.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-12-19
- VIN: 5N1DR3DG1RC
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: As a result of service on this vehicle that was provided by Nissan of McKinney in McKinney, Texas the vehicle was intentionally returned to the owner after servicing in an unsafe condition. The service included removal of a trailer hitch receiver and electrical harness that had been installed earlier. After the service and the electrical harness removal, the vehicle was left with exposed electrical conductors underneath the rear bumper that are exposed to the external contaminated road environment. This results in a potential for electrical fire, electrical harness damage, and possible explosion with the exposed electrical conductors so near the fuel tank. The problem has been reported to Nissan of McKinney several times, who, while they acknowledge having received the communications, have not commented on the condition in which they left the vehicle, and will not state if this is a safety issue.
WHEELS PROBLEM

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2024 Nissan Pathfinder.
- Manufacturer: Nissan North America, Inc.
- Components: SEAT BELTS:PRETENSIONER
- Summary: Nissan North America, Inc. (Nissan) is recalling certain 2024 Pathfinder and Infiniti QX60 vehicles. Hey there! I hope you're doing well. I noticed that you mentioned being a little worried about the previous transmission problems. Is there anything I can do to help ease your concerns?
-
You'll love all the features and technology this vehicle has to offer. Plus, it provides a very comfortable ride.

We recently took our new Pathfinder on a holiday trip through the Virginia/West Virginia mountains and it was the most enjoyable experience compared to its competitors. The handling and ride comfort were superb, and the driver assist features worked great. The 9-speed transmission operates smoothly and the heated electric seats were very comfortable, making the long trip pain-free. Our rear passengers loved the reclining heated second-row captain chairs and the rear HVAC controls. With the 3rd row folded down, we had plenty of luggage storage for all 4 of us. We are happy with the SL premium package, except for the Bose sound system which is not as good as our 09 Murano Bose system. We opted for the red/black premium paint combo with the Blackout option and are having the bumpers painted black. We have received many compliments on our choice.

Just bought a new 23 pathfinder platinum. Despite seeing some complaints, we find it very comfortable and have not experienced any issues yet. We absolutely love it!
-
I really appreciate all the features, and the steer assist is fantastic as it helps you drive! I've already driven 1000 miles, and everything seems to be working great!

The 2024 Nissan Pathfinder Platinum is a comfortable and reasonably quiet SUV with decent quality inside. The engine is quiet and responsive, making for a pleasant driving experience. However, the optional white tri-coat paint is of poor quality for a near $60k SUV. The fit and finish are surprising in this day and age of robotics, with orange peel finish paint and uneven panel match. It's disappointing to see such issues in a vehicle at this price point. Despite this, Nissan touts a strong customer satisfaction policy, which is something to keep in mind.

I have experienced two cracked windshields in my 2023 Pathfinder within the first four weeks of ownership. The first crack occurred when a rock from a cement truck hit the windshield, causing a chip that quickly spread. The windshield had to be replaced. The second crack happened just one week later while driving on the interstate, when something hit the windshield and caused another chip. This level of damage is not typical for a vehicle with less than 1,000 miles on it.

My car has only 3,071 miles on it, yet it has started making ticking noises and another noise that makes it sound much older than it is. As a loyal Nissan owner, I am disappointed to have experienced problems with my last two new vehicles, including a 2019 Murano in 2019.

I have a lot to say about my recent purchase of the Pathfinder Platinum. Despite being a 2024 model, purchased brand new in November 2023, I have been disappointed with its performance. The warning light for low washer fluid went on the night I took delivery, and the sensor had to be replaced by the dealer. Additionally, the automated steering wheel and drivers seat for egress and ingress went out, requiring the entire steering column to be replaced. The Bose system, while top tier, is disappointing and lacks decent bass even at half volume. The drive is peculiar, with a delay when hard accelerating and hard downshifts when braking. On a recent road trip with 2 adults, 3 children, and some luggage, the car struggled to maintain 80mph and kept gear hunting and downshifting frequently. The V6 felt severely underpowered, and I cannot imagine towing anything with it. While I see mixed reviews, I agree with those who have had similar experiences. Perhaps I have a lemon, but I expected more from this SUV.The Pathfinder's resale value is notoriously low, and I am eager to trade it in despite the expected depreciation. I recommend carefully considering whether this car is the right choice for you.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to let you know that I've noticed some issues with Carplay. Sometimes it can be a bit unreliable, whether I'm using a wired or wireless connection. I find myself having to disconnect and reconnect quite frequently, and sometimes the volume can be a bit finicky too. Additionally, I've noticed some strange behavior with the backup sensors and collision warning - for example, when I'm backing up on a slope in my driveway, it can set off the warning and cause the car to brake suddenly. It can definitely be frustrating, but I'm hopeful that there are some solutions out there. Thanks for your help!
