2009 Nissan Pathfinder problems
The Nissan Pathfinder is a range of sport utility vehicles manufactured by Nissan since 1986. Until the third-generation model, the Pathfinder is based on Nissan's compact pickup truck platform which it shares with the Navara/Frontier. The front end of the D21 (first generation) and R51 (third generation) Pathfinder is notably identical with the Navara/Frontier up until the B-pillars.
The Pathfinder was marketed as the Nissan Terrano (Japanese: 日産・テラノ, Hepburn: Nissan Terano) outside North America. Beginning in 2004, the R51 series was marketed internationally as the Pathfinder.
In 2012, the R52 series Pathfinder was released as a three-row crossover SUV based on the unibody Nissan D platform, moving away from the body-on-frame chassis format. The role of a mid-size body-on-frame SUV in Nissan's global lineup was passed to the Terra/X-Terra, which was released in 2018 and based on the D23 series Navara.

- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: I WAS ENTERING A PARKING LOT AND TURNING INTO A PARKING SPOT. AS I APPLIED THE BRAKES THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR AND THE CAR PROCEED TOWARDS A BRICK WALL AND WINDOW. I IMMEDIATELY STARTED PUMPING THE BRAKES AND GOT A "SOFT PEDAL" JUST OFF THE FLOOR AND THE CAR STOPPED JUST BEFORE CRASHING INTO A MAJOR GROCERY STORE WINDOW. BEING EXPERIENCED WITH CARS I IMMEDIATELY CHECKED THE MASTER CYLINDER FOR FLUID WHICH WAS FULL. CHECKED ALL THE WHEELS FOR LEAKS AND WERE DRY AS WELL AS THE LINES. I WENT INTO THE STORE AND CALLED FOR SOMEONE TO PICK ME UP. ON RETURNING TO THE CAR ABOUT 30 MINUTES LATER I STARTED THE CAR AND APPLIED THE BRAKES AND FOUND THEM TO BE NORMAL. ON DOING SOME ONLINE RESEARCH HAVE FOUND THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE THAT DRIVE THE SAME PLATFORM VEHICLE NOT JUST THE PATHFINDER. UNITL THIS PROBLEM IS IDENTIFIED AND CORRECTED THERE EASILY COULD BE A MAJOR ACCIDENT INVOLVING INJURYS. I AM NOW DRIVING MY PATHFINDER WITH THE VDC BUTTON IN THE OFF POSITION AND IT WAS SUGGESTED THAT I ALSO REMOVE THE ABS FUSE AS THERE IS SOMEKIND OF CONFLICT BETWEEN THE COMPUTER SYSTEMS SOFTWARE CAUSING THE BRAKE SYSTEM TO SHUTDOWN. SOME PEOPLE HAVE SPENT $1,000 OF DOLLARS HAVING SYSTEMS REBUILT REPLACING MASTER CYLINDERS, PADS AND ROTORS ONLY TO FIND IT HAS NOT CORRECTED THE PROBLEM. We test drove a Chevy Tahoe, a Toyota 4Runner, a Toyota Highlander, and a Nissan Pathfinder. The Pathfinder was our favorite due to its stylish design, comfortable interior, and spaciousness. Although we did notice some slight wandering at speeds above 60 mph, we did not experience any issues with the transmission, which is a common complaint among other owners.

I'm so glad to hear that you had such a positive experience with your 05 Off Road! After 56K and several trips to ski in Colorado, it's great to hear that you were able to trade it in for an 08 LE V8 that you're very happy with. The acceleration is great and the handling is good, not to mention the fully loaded audio system and back-up camera. It sounds like the fuel efficiency is even better than your previous V6. On average, you're getting 15m/g in city driving. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice and I'm happy to hear that you're enjoying your new vehicle!
-
I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your SUV! It sounds like it has been a great choice for you so far, with no problems even after 50k miles. The power and options available are truly impressive, and it's great to hear that you found it to be superior to other SUVs you've driven. With its spacious interior, powerful V8 engine, and versatile capabilities both on and off the road, it's no wonder you're so pleased with your choice!
-
Great car with the current discounts offered. Good size, great performance, great optional features. Only complaint is the gas mileage with the giant V8, but I knew what I was getting into. Fortunately I don't drive much. I would certainly buy again.
-
Other than gas mileage which we expected with the V8, I'm so glad to hear that you LOVE your Pathfinder! It's great to hear that the outside is quite attractive and it rides like a dream. I understand that you would like the inside to be a bit more luxurious, but it's still very practical.

This vehicle is really nice, but unfortunately, the windows make a lot of rattling noise when brought down while driving, which can be quite unpleasant. I personally cannot even open mine. When I brought this issue up with the dealer, they said they had never heard of the problem and couldn't do anything about it. There was also a recent recall for the clock, which was giving the wrong time every now and then. Additionally, the power seats are always being touched every time I enter or exit the vehicle, causing them to be reset every time. It can be quite frustrating.
Reinhold Johns 2024-09-25
As a previous owner of a 1996 Pathfinder for 13 years, I was excited to trade it in for a 2008 model. However, I have been disappointed with the quality of the vehicle. Unfortunately, it started rattling just 5 weeks after purchase. The windows, dash, and inside AC vents make loud noises, and the hatch closes so hard that the glass shakes and the rear inside panel is dangling and rattling due to the rear door. Additionally, the rear camera won't work when it rains, and I have concerns about the steering column. The paint is also quite thin and easily scratched. Despite these issues, Nissan has been unhelpful in addressing my concerns. I believe that Nissan can and should do better in terms of the quality of their vehicles.

Hi there! I recently purchased a vehicle and have been experiencing some issues with hard downshifting and bucking when accelerating around 40 mph. I took it to the dealer and they tried to fix it by adding some transmission fluid, but unfortunately, the issue persisted. I went back a second time and even had the shop manager drive it with me, but they still couldn't find anything wrong. When I asked for written confirmation, they admitted that there was indeed an issue and wanted to keep the vehicle longer to fix it. Interestingly, they also mentioned that they have 6 more pathfinders on the lot with the same problem. I'm still waiting for a resolution as the issue has now spread to downshifting hard at all different speeds. Thank you for your help!

I should love this car. It's loaded with options and I got a great price on it. However, I have noticed a few issues with it. The engine can be a bit noisy and unrefined, and the transmission occasionally shifts slowly or roughly. Additionally, the interior is starting to show some wear and tear, with the plastics not aging as well as I would have hoped and the leather beginning to sag. I have also noticed a few interior squeaks and rattles, as well as an annoying clicking sound. While the ride can be a bit rough, it is important to keep in mind that this is an SUV. Overall, I am still happy with my purchase, although I do miss my previous 4Runner's smoother ride.
Kian Hill 2024-07-07
At first, I absolutely loved my Pathfinder. The V8 engine was incredibly powerful, the Bose sound system was amazing, and all the luxurious gadgets were fantastic. However, after about two weeks, I started to notice some rattling noises. They seemed to be coming from everywhere - the wheel, the frame, the doors, and even the dashboard. When I took it off-road, it felt like I was driving a covered wagon. The rattling was so noticeable that it became a real issue. I had a 2000 Pathfinder with 100k on it, and it was as solid as a rock - nothing like this. While the Pathfinder is a great car for highway driving and has an outstanding 0-60 speed, I bought an SUV specifically for off-road and mountain sports. Unfortunately, the low clearance with the bumpers and excessive rattling make it less than ideal for those purposes.
