2011 Nissan Pathfinder problems
The Nissan Pathfinder is a range of sport utility vehicles manufactured by Nissan since 1986. Until the third-generation model, the Pathfinder is based on Nissan's compact pickup truck platform which it shares with the Navara/Frontier. The front end of the D21 (first generation) and R51 (third generation) Pathfinder is notably identical with the Navara/Frontier up until the B-pillars.
The Pathfinder was marketed as the Nissan Terrano (Japanese: 日産・テラノ, Hepburn: Nissan Terano) outside North America. Beginning in 2004, the R51 series was marketed internationally as the Pathfinder.
In 2012, the R52 series Pathfinder was released as a three-row crossover SUV based on the unibody Nissan D platform, moving away from the body-on-frame chassis format. The role of a mid-size body-on-frame SUV in Nissan's global lineup was passed to the Terra/X-Terra, which was released in 2018 and based on the D23 series Navara.

Common 2011 Nissan Pathfinder problems
The Nissan Pathfinder, like any vehicle, has its share of common problems. One of the most frequently reported issues is transmission failure, which is said to be caused by coolant leaking into the transmission.
Another common problem with the 2011 Nissan Pathfinder is that it may not select four-wheel-drive when the driver requests it. This issue is often caused by electrical gremlins in the rotary dial on the dashboard and the mechanical components that it controls. The rotary dial is susceptible to electrical faults, and checking the fuses that protect the selection dial and having the rotary dial itself checked for faults can help diagnose the problem.
The 2011 Nissan Pathfinder also has issues with the variable build quality coming out of the plant in Spain, which can cause rattles and squeaks.
The navigation system in the 2017 Pathfinder has also been reported to have issues, such as the navigation controls freezing, the backup camera getting stuck, and the malfunctioning reverse assist display.
Climate system failure is another issue that affects many 2015 Pathfinder owners, where the A/C and heating system simply refuses to work, which can be a massive problem during extreme temperatures.
Finally, Pathfinder owners have reported timing chain issues, where the pieces that hold the timing chain in place were reportedly affecting the guides, shoes, and chain tensioners, causing rattling or acceleration issues, and even engine failure.
In summary, the Nissan Pathfinder has its share of common problems, such as transmission failure, electrical issues with the four-wheel-drive selection, variable build quality, fuel level sensor failure, navigation system issues, transmission leaks, climate system failure, CVT issues, and timing chain problems. However, with proper maintenance, many of these issues can be prevented or addressed before they become major problems.

THEY QUOTED ME 7K TO FIX IT AND I DECIDED TO TAKE IT TO SOMEONE ELSE TO GET A SECOND OPINION. AT THIS POINT THEY STARTED BEING EXTREMELY RUDE. IT IS NOW AT ANOTHER SHOP UNSURE OF WHAT TO DO. AS I GOT HOME TONIGHT I FOUND THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAD BEEN EXPERIENCING THIS SAME PROBLEM IN THE SAME VEHICLES BY NISSAN. I'M NOT SURE WHY THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP ACTED LIKE IT WAS NEWS TO THEM. BUT NOW I JUST WANT IT FIXED AND HAVE A SAFE VEHICLE FOR MY FAMILY. I'M HOPING IT GETS RECALLED SO THAT I'M ABLE TO GET IT FIXED.
POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2015-12-01
- VIN: 5N1AR1NB9BC
- Components: POWER TRAIN
- Summary: CAR WAS PURCHASED IN 2015 IN AUGUST. IN DECEMBER, WHEN WE NEED TO USE THE 4WD, IT JERKED THE STEERING WHEEL OUT OF MY HAND. MY MECHANIC INSPECTED THE CAR AND DETERMINED THE DRIVE RATIO IN THE FRONT DRIVE WAS LOWER THEN FROM THE REAR (MEANING THAT THE FRONT WHEELS TURN AT A FASTER RATE THEN THE REAR). CONTACTED NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE AND THEY ADVISED THAT BEFORE THEY COULD DO ANYTHING, IT WOULD HAVE TO BE INSPECTED BY A NISSAN DEALER, WHICH THEY RECOMMENDED. I MADE AN APPOINTMENT AND HAD THEM INSPECT THE VEHICLE AND THEY CONFIRMED THE PROBLEM. NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE DENIED THE REPORT, THOUGH, SAYING IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY (WHICH THEY KNEW BEFORE I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER). I CONTENDED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS BUILT THIS WAY, BUT THEY WOULD NOT EVEN DISCUSS THE ISSUE. WHEN I ASK WHY THEY SENT ME THERE WHEN THE ANSWER WAS "OUT OF WARRANTY" ANYWAY, THEY SAID THE SAME THING - "OUT OF WARRANTY"; IN OTHER WORDS, WOULD NOT EVEN ADDRESS THE ISSUE. I FEEL LIKE I GOT THE SUPREME RUNAROUND AND IT COST ME $312 TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALER. CS WOULD NOT ADDRESS THIS ISSUE EITHER. I THINK SHE SAID "OUT OF WARRANTY" 6 TIMES, BEFORE I HUNG UP. APPARENTLY, THEY HAVE A RECORDING OF THE PHONE CONVERSATION (MON, FEB 15TH, 2016 AT ABOUT 5:30 PM). CARFAX REPORT SAYS THERE WAS A ACCIDENT, SO I ASK THE ORIGINAL DEALER AND THEY TOLD ME OVER THE PHONE THAT IT WAS A FENDER BENDER. THE CARFAX REPORT ALSO INDICATES NO MAINTENANCE/SERVICE ON THE DRIVE TRAIN. I CANNOT PROVE THAT THE CAR WAS BUILT THIS WAY, BUT THEY CANT PROVE THEY DIDNT BUILD IT THIS WAY. I ANY CASE, IM OUT OF $312 AND STILL DO NOT HAVE A CAR I CAN DRIVE IN 4WD. DEALER REPORT IS ATTACHED.

- Consequence: A detached emblem can become a projectile during air bag deployment, increasing the risk of injury to vehicle occupants.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the drivers airbag cover. Owner letters were mailed December 8, 2023. Owners may contact Nissan's customer service at 1-800-867-7669. Nissan's number for this recall are PC944, PC945, and PC946.

I love my new Nissan Pathfinder! After test driving six different 4-wheel vehicles, my family and I decided on the Pathfinder. It's my first Nissan, and I'm impressed with how well it handles and the smooth ride it provides for an SUV. The leg room and comfort are fantastic, and the slate gray color is beautiful. I also appreciate the great resale value of Nissan vehicles.
-
Pathfinder is a fantastic deal! It's priced thousands less than Honda and Toyota. Honda's profit margins are surprisingly low, and dealers have limited sales options. With Toyota, you can only find values up to $35,000. While the ride may not be as smooth as Honda's, the resale value is about the same everywhere. Ford's products don't hold their value, and my 2008 Explorer EB was only fair at best. I didn't like the high-tech rearview mirror falling off the windshield. On the other hand, Pathfinder is a top-quality Japanese vehicle with great looks and driving performance that surpasses the competition. I'm a proud owner of a 2001 Pathfinder Le 4x4, which is still super, and the top-of-the-line 2010 Maxima. This is my 25th Nissan, and I'm proud of every one of them!

Congratulations on your new truck-based SUV! It's great to hear that your family is enjoying it, especially your daughter with the DVD system. The spacious first and second row seats sound perfect for a comfortable ride. It's also impressive to hear that you're getting good fuel efficiency at 17mpg (4 wd/mountain) and 18 mpg (2 wd/local+free way). It's reassuring to know that the vibration issue you mentioned has improved after a couple of weeks. Overall, it sounds like you made a great choice for the price. Enjoy your new ride!
-
Congratulations on your new Pathfinder! It's great to hear that you had such a positive experience with your previous models. The new interior comfort and technological updates, such as 'keyless', sound like fantastic additions. While the Pathfinder may not have the best mileage, it's impressive that you're still averaging 19 to 20 MPG with 70% freeway driving. It's wonderful that the vehicle has plenty of room for passengers and luggage, making it an excellent choice for outdoor pursuits. It's clear that you've done your research and found that the Pathfinder has excellent amenities compared to the competition. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!

Okay, this car is fantastic! It's so much fun to drive, has plenty of power, and is incredibly spacious. However, I do feel that Nissan may have cut corners with the S model in order to push customers towards the SE (+$3000). It's hard to believe that in 2010, there's no AUX jack for the iPod. Despite this, I still love this car and all its great features. I just wish that I didn't feel like the manufacturer was taking advantage of me.

The vehicle does not have good gas mileage. There is always an issue with the tire pressure. The light is always on and it has been checked out multiple times.

When my family and I were deciding between the Pathfinder and 4Runner, we ultimately chose the latter. It has been a great fit for our needs here in Colorado - comfortable for city and highway driving, perfect for camping trips, and surprisingly capable off-road. The interior design and quality are really nice, and overall we are very happy with our purchase after 3 years of ownership. My wife absolutely loves it! However, I have noticed some questionable built quality when off-roading, as there are annoying squeaks and rattles that make it feel like the truck is going to fall apart. That being said, it is surprisingly smooth and quiet on the road. If you don't plan on going off-road, there may be better options available, but for our family, the 4Runner has been a great choice.

I bought this vehicle in April 2010 to replace my old Chevy Trailblazer, which was becoming unreliable. Comfort and electronics were important to me, as well as a dependable vehicle. However, I found that I had to purchase a more expensive vehicle than I wanted just to get a few important options. Unfortunately, those features did not work as promised. When I drove the vehicle off the lot, I noticed two issues: the Bluetooth connection for the phone did not sound good and the windshield was improperly installed, causing an awful noise in the wind and at high speeds. After much effort and loss of use, the noise is now fixed. However, the Bluetooth issue appears to be a result of poor design and is not fixable. I have owned several vehicles with a built-in cell connection and frequently rent vehicles for work travel, so I have a lot of vehicles to compare this one to. Unfortunately, the Bluetooth in this vehicle is the worst I have ever experienced. It is almost bearable if the vehicle is not in motion, but it is impossible to carry on a normal phone conversation when at speed. If you are looking for only intermittent emergency use of the Bluetooth/cell feature, this might get the job done for you. However, if you are looking to return calls and conduct business while on the move, I suggest you look elsewhere. It is also worth noting that the Bluetooth in this vehicle is only for the phone. To play music from your iPhone, you'll need to use an RCA cable. Additionally, you'll need to charge your phone from one of the 12V power outlets, which means you'll have at least two wires running around your vehicle. However, beyond these issues, the vehicle is average. It gets 18.4 MPG almost no matter what you're doing. It's a great dog transporter, as I leave the 3rd row set down all the time, so there's more space in the back. My pooch loves the rear A/C. The 2nd row of seating looks big to me, and I imagine it's fine for kids, but my workmates tell me there's no legroom when we go to lunch. The vehicle is serviced on time, and there have been no significant mechanical issues beyond those I have already mentioned. You could do worse, but I would not recommend buying from Falkner Nissan in Harrisburg, PA.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my Nissan Pathfinder that I bought less than 2 months ago. While hand-washing my vehicle about 3 weeks into ownership, I noticed some chips on my passenger side doors. I didn't think much of it at first, but when I showed my dad, who is a retired body man and paint expert, we discovered that there were actually several chips all over the vehicle. My dad explained that it was due to something called 'surface tension' and unfortunately, it would only get worse over time. I took my concerns to the dealership where I purchased the vehicle, Waco Nissan, and they promised to get in touch with the local Nissan Rep. to help resolve the issue. After waiting for three weeks and playing phone tag with the associate responsible for my case, I was offered a repaint. However, I did some research and found out that repainting could negatively impact the resale value of my vehicle. I'm still waiting for a better solution from Nissan, but I wanted to share my story with you. Thanks for listening! She would call and leave a message saying I could return her call, but never answered. After a few days, she finally called to say they had rejected my claim. On the same day, they revealed that they had rejected my request for a replacement vehicle. However, when I had taken it in for the first oil change, I talked to the owner of Waco Nissan, the same person who sold me the vehicle, and he said that Nissan had not contacted him for any pictures or sent anyone else to look at the vehicle. Basically, Nissan made their decision based on hearsay and without any evidence. No one cared to look at it and see what was going on with the paint, besides the original rep who came out a month ago. Since then, the chips have become more noticeable and the spots which were once bubbles have become chips. At this point, I don't know what to do. I feel that all Nissan is doing is working to get that signature on the dotted line and doesn't care to take fault for anything that happens in their factory. It's not fair for them to expect me to pay a new price for a car that needs to be repainted right off the lot. It's clear that they don't care. The consultant who delivered the news even went so far as to offer the number for the BBB.

undefinedAfter owning the Pathfinder for over 6 months, I have discovered some issues that may affect its usability. While it is great for off-road adventures and solo trips, it may not be the best option for those who want to take friends along. The brake system is not strong enough to safely pull a camper, and the gas mileage is average at best. However, the vehicle is in great mechanical shape and has no leaks. Despite this, there are some electrical issues that need to be addressed, such as the clock and radio not staying programmed and the key fob not being recognized. Additionally, the sun visors sag and cannot be used in the side position. Overall, the interior quality is poor. Despite these issues, I still enjoy driving the Pathfinder and hope it will last a long time. I had to replace the whole brake system and unfortunately, 4 weeks later, the brakes started grinding again. Although they have not locked up yet, I am terrified to go down a hill any time it is wet, just waiting for the brakes to throw me out of control. My son drove my Pathfinder yesterday and commented on how little room there is around the driver. The blind spot is really annoying as I cannot see out of the right side. Overall, I am not happy with this vehicle. I would recommend spending a lot of time in it before you buy it. In my experience, this vehicle is not worth buying. I have had it for a couple of years and have not enjoyed almost any moment. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to sell and buy something else, so I am stuck with this vehicle. It is not worth the fear and headache. On a positive note, now that we have had daylight savings, I no longer have to subtract an hour every time I look at the clock. However, the clock cannot be set.

This is my third Pathfinder, and I must say that my previous 1996 and 1999 models were unbelievably reliable and fun to drive SUVs. However, I have had a different experience with this truck. It rides horribly on all road conditions and after 1 year, I am still trying to figure out why the transmission shifts at inappropriate times. In my opinion, there are much better choices out there, especially if you want to achieve any type of respectable MPG.
