The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.
The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.
In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

- Summary: My 2016 Hyundai accent engine has all of sudden stop working and i have explained to multiple shops and my insurance that i was deployed for a whole year and the car was driving fine and once I came back it just wouldn’t crank. Two Hyundai shops informed me that the engine is locked up but neither shop provided a thorough investigation as to why this has happened. There were two-three major hurricanes in Texas where it was stored while I was deployed in Kuwait and Iraq from march 2023- march 2024 as well as another hurricane in Georgia where i am currently located now which happened September 2024. The engine is locked with no explanation as to how and a Hyundai representative by the name of don who provided the goodwill repair on July 09 2024 and i had it towed to Hyundai in Marietta and they looked and provided the same explanation that the engine is locked and to get it replaced with no detailed reasoning why. My safety has been at risk due to driving across states and town to get this vehicle serviced properly and causing mental anguish and depression as I am not able to get to where I need to go everyday which is causing friction in relationship and I am missing important events. I emailed the CEO Randy Parker and his executive assistant Amanda has done nothing but further deny the goodwill with no explanation on how, why, what, when. No, the problem was not confirmed as again it was no detail reasoning behind how the engine locked when it was working fine before returning from overseas. The vehicle was inspected by the local Hyundai dealerships in Killeen Texas and another in Marietta, GA and only inspected by one adjuster recently on October 10, 2024. There was no check engine illuminated in the car once I returned from overseas as it has not been driven much. There is still no check engine light illuminated even after all the shops checking. To make this right, I would like for Hyundai (HMUSA) to honor the goodwill REPAIR and or REPLACEMENT of the engine.

- Summary: Around the middle of May 2024 I received a recall notice #23V651000. I made an appointment for approximately 2 weeks on June 5. When I arrived I was told the part was never ordered. Coconut Creek Hyundai said they would order the part and call me in a few days. After not hearing for 2 weeks I went back to Hyundai and was told the part hadn’t come in and to go home and they would call me in a few days. After several more weeks I went back and was told the part still hadn’t arrived. It was about a month and a half and still no part. The service manager told me that Hyundai USA was placing a low priority on my model car and manufacturing that part last after all the other models. It’s now 4 months later and I have never received any call from Coconut Creek Hyundai. When this first happened I contacted both Coconut Creek Hyundai and Hyundai USA. Hyundai USA said they couldn’t interfere with the local dealer even though it’s a Federal Safety Recall! Hyundai Coconut Creek basically blew me off. I think this is deliberate on the part of Hyundai USA to service higher cost vehicles before lower cost. They are playing games with my personal safety and that of my car. They are deliberately defying the recall! I believe whatever compliance procedures you have in place should be enforced to the fullest including fines if necessary. Again they are defying the recall and putting my safety and other Accent owners in jeopardy simply for profits.

- Summary: I was entering highway on entrance ramp there was a loud pop and I could see plumes of smoke coming from under the car, so I turned the ignition off on the car and pulled over to the shoulder, the brakes failed so I had to let it coast to a stop. Then I waited until I could safely exit the vehicle and did so quickly. I had the vehicle towed to a local shop, and they told me I should report it. There was no warning that it was about to happen and yes its available for inspection still sitting at the shop I had it towed to. They also said I should have it towed to the manufacturer service center but this is my first time dealing with anything like this so Im unsure what to do. I did do a cursory inspection under the hood with a mechanic from the shop and there was a burnt wire and a bunch of what looked like oil down at the bottom of the engine, but the oil was still full so I dont think it was oil.

- Summary: There have been 2 recalls in which this vehicle was serviced for within the past year- 1 for undercoating 2 for leaking brake fluid fuse. Neither time were my brake lines inspected for any damage. One month after the fuse was replaced, my brakes went out with the dealership saying the lines were rusted through. Now, we are stuck without a vehicle because there are no brake lines available for this vehicle, everything is on back order with no eta. Had either time this car was serviced for these band aid recalls been looked at, we would not be in the situation we are now. No vehicle, no parts available, a dealership completely unwilling to work with us. Research was done and every vehicle in the 2014 Hyundai class except for the Accents were recalled in Canada for brake lines rusting out after undercoating in Canada. This needs to be looked into because as it stands, our estimate is $2600 to fix an issue that should had been better addressed with these recalls. We were driving back from an outing with our grandchildren when the brakes went completely out with no warning. The brake light did not come when the brakes failed. By the Grace of God we were able to get this car to a Hyundai dealership where it sits today due to poor communication on their part, no parts, and complete frustration on our end.

The instrumental panel returned to normal, but the mileage range reset to 0. This was while I was traveling on a highway going 70mph. While it did not cause an accident this time, it was very upsetting. Further it is concerning that there was a recall on the 2014 Hyundai Accent for wiring issues that could cause a fire in the engine also referred to as an intermittent. We had the car inspected and nothing was found to be wrong with the battery/alternator or starter and nothing we could do in regular maintenance to ensure the safety of this vehicle. Note the mileage of this vehicle is 108k which is interesting considering the powertrain warranty was for 100k miles.

Given the seriousness of the situation and the impact on my daily life, including the necessity to use rental cars, take time off work, and travel extensively, I request the following: Immediate Approval of Goodwill Repair: Reassess and approve the goodwill repair for the engine issue based on the accurate maintenance records provided. Compensation for Inconvenience: Compensation for time off work, rental car costs, travel expenses, and emotional distress caused by this situation.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2011-2015 Elantra, Genesis Coupe, Sonata Hybrid, 2012-2015 Accent, Azera, Veloster, 2013-2015 Elantra Coupe, Santa Fe, 2014-2015 Equus, 2010-2012 Veracruz, 2010-2013 Tucson, 2015 Tucson Fuel Cell, and 2013 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) module may leak brake fluid internally and cause an electrical short, which can result in an engine compartment fire while parked or driving.
- Consequence: An engine compartment fire while parked or driving can increase the risk of injury.
- Remedy: Owners are advised to park outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will replace the ABS fuse, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed April 10, 2024 through October 11, 2024. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 251.

- Consequence: An exploding seat belt pretensioner can project metal fragments into the vehicle, strike vehicle occupants, and result in injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will secure the seat belt pretensioner(s) with a cap, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 28, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 229. This recall expands and replaces NHTSA recall numbers 21V-796, 22V-069, 22V-218, and 22V-123 for Accent, Elantra, and Elantra HEV vehicles. All Accent, Elantra, and Elantra HEV vehicles already repaired under the previous recalls will need to have the new remedy completed.

I purchased my Accent a few months ago and I am really enjoying driving it more and more each day. The car is loaded with features which is great. However, I have noticed a few issues that I would like to address. Firstly, the cruise control hesitates when first set. Secondly, the transmission downshifts at the slightest incline which can be a bit unpredictable. Thirdly, it spits out gas at the end of every fill-up no matter how slowly I fill it. Lastly, I have noticed that I only get 25 MPG in town and 30 MPG at 75 mph on the freeway despite being a very slow driver. As I purchased this car used, I am a bit concerned that it may have been damaged. Although, it did have a clear carfax.

The MPG was a significant factor in the purchase, and I am currently observing around 32 mpg, which is still impressive despite not reaching the 42 mpg that Hyundai claims. The car is surprisingly comfortable for a subcompact, and it comes packed with features that are impressive for its class. I bought a 2022 Hyundai Accent in March, 2022. At first, I was a little hesitant because I had only had Sonatas previously. However, I really like this car! It is great on gas, has plenty of power, and is very comfortable to drive. I especially love the cloth seats and so far have no complaints.

I've had the pleasure of owning a variety of cars, including F-150's, Hummer H2's, Ford Explorers, Audi's, and currently, two Mercedes Benz. While they are great cars, they can be a bit of a gas guzzler. My first Accent was a company car with 87k miles. It was a comfortable car, great on gas, and fun to drive, but it was severely under-powered. The auto transmission could be a bit sloppy at times and made some hard shifts, and unfortunately, cruise control wasn't available. However, despite these minor flaws, I found it to be the perfect commuter car for both myself and my son. He can drive to school and work, and I can run errands with ease. I must say, I absolutely love this car!

I sold my 2013 Toyota Corolla to my son to replace his 1999 Ford Escort and bought a 2018 Hyundai Accent for myself. The Accent seemed like a great car during my test drives, with a six-speed manual transmission and a 1.6-liter engine that was easy to get used to. It shifted smoothly and had sufficient power, and I was pleased to see that the average MPG was 47 for my combination of highway and city driving. Although the ride is fairly firm, it's quieter at highway speeds than the Corolla. Unfortunately, at around 140 miles, the car started running rough and the Check Engine light came on. It felt like the car was running on two cylinders, but the dealer replaced the spark plugs and the car has been running smoothly ever since. I'm happy to report that at 21,000 miles, the car is still running well and I'm getting 43-44 MPG. Overall, I'm pleased with my purchase and hope that the long-term reliability will be good.Hi there! Hi there! I just wanted to share my experience with this car. My mother actually picked it out new in 2002 and owned it for 5 years before generously giving it to me after my divorce left me a single mom without a vehicle. At the time, I thought the warranty was great and the price was right, and it seemed to have some get-up-and-go. However, since I've owned it, I've come to realize that it's not the best car out there. With 96K miles on it, it's going through oil, the engine light is perpetually on, and it won't pass emissions. Even without these obvious problems, in hilly western PA, I've had some scary moments with the handling of this vehicle due to its horrible steering and braking! But, I'm looking forward to the day when I can afford a new car. Thanks for listening!
