2007 Hyundai Accent problems

The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.

The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.

In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

Common 2007 Hyundai Accent problems

The 2007 Hyundai Accent, a popular subcompact car, has been praised for its reliability and fuel efficiency. However, there are a few common problems that owners have reported.

  1. Engine Issues: Some owners have reported engine problems, including the need to replace all of the coil packs. One coil pack went out at only 30,000 miles, but was under warranty. However, these issues seem to be relatively rare and do not appear to be a widespread problem with the 2007 Accent.
  2. Tire Pressure Warning Light: This light may indicate an issue with one or more of your tires – the air pressure is too low, too high or you have a slow leak or flat. This is a common issue with many vehicles, not just the 2007 Hyundai Accent.
  3. Fog Lights Are On: This isn't a warning light, but rather an indication that the car's fog lights or daytime running lights are on. Again, this is not a problem with the car itself, but rather a feature of the vehicle.
  4. Lane-Keeping Assist: This light indicates that the car's lane-keeping assist system is working to keep you in your lane and not drifting from side to side. This is a safety feature, not a problem.
  5. Brake Warning Light: This light means there’s an issue with your anti-lock brakes. It could come on for a variety of reasons, from a faulty speed sensor to low brake fluid to total brake failure. This is a serious issue that should be addressed immediately.
  6. Traction Control Light: This light means that the traction control system is engaged, helping to keep your wheels from spinning on slick surfaces or during initial acceleration. However, on some cars, a light can also indicate an issue, so it's important to know which is which in advance.

Overall, the 2007 Hyundai Accent appears to be a reliable and efficient vehicle, with most owners reporting few or no problems. The most common issues reported are related to the engine and the tire pressure warning light, both of which are relatively minor and do not appear to be widespread. The other issues reported, such as the fog lights being on and the lane-keeping assist system working, are not problems with the car itself, but rather features of the vehicle. The brake warning light and the traction control light, however, are serious issues that should be addressed immediately.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2022-12-22
  • VIN: KMHCN46C07U
  • Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
  • Summary: The car loses power randomly. It typically happens at a stop light or a stop sign, usually within the first 10-15 mins of starting the car. It hasn’t happened after or while the car is driven for a long period of time. However, it has happened while getting on to the highway and while making turns into intersections. When the car loses power, there is no warning. Sometimes, it is hard to put the car into park and restart the car when it loses power. Oddly, however, when it loses power/ stalls/ shuts off, if the radio or other devices are on, they stay on. Symbols that appear on the dash when the car shuts down include the engine, oil, and battery lights. These lights also come on when you first cycle to start the car. We’ve taken the car to a Hyundai dealership and they said that they can’t find any codes, when they connect the car to a code reader.

2007 Hyundai Accent recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2007 Hyundai Accent.

2013-04-01
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
  • Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.
2009-07-21

  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 3,011 MODEL YEAR 2005-2007 ELANTRA, TUCSON, SONATA, AZERA AND ACCENT VEHICLES. A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO FAIL TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED OR MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. A DEFECTIVE STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY ALSO AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFT OUT OF THE "PARK" POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.
  • Consequence: ANY OF THESE MALFUNCTIONS COULD LEAD TO A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI OF PUERTO RICO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-787-999-4310.

Negative 2007 Hyundai Accent car reviews

  1. Felix Pouros 2025-01-09

Girls really love the style, they even say it's cute. The seats are nice and firm, and the A/C is great. Just be sure to look twice before changing lanes, as the acceleration is not very strong. After 21,000 miles, the gas mileage is about 22mpg. Unfortunately, I needed a new battery after only 14,000 miles. Also, the plastic inside scratches easily.

  2. Christian Von 2025-01-03

I experienced significant issues with this car, including engine replacement and the need for new tires in a short period of time. Additionally, the car exhibited severe shaking at highway speeds, which made it difficult to maintain control. Due to these safety concerns, I filed for the lemon law.

  3. Reed Dicki 2024-11-03

Hi there! I'm glad to hear that you've been enjoying your base model 5 speed with AC. If you're considering purchasing one, I would suggest going for an automatic as the transmission is covered under the 10 year 10000 mile warranty, whereas the clutch is not. In terms of mileage, you can expect around 24-27 in town and 31-33 on the highway. If you're thinking about buying a Hyundai, I highly recommend going for a new one instead of a used one with low miles. The 2009 models currently have a rebate and come with a 10 year warranty, whereas used models only come with a 5 year warranty. Additionally, used models can be hard to find and when you factor in the rebate, the price difference isn't that significant. By the way, my family has owned 8 Hyundais, both new and pre-owned, so we're definitely fans of the brand! Let me know if you have any other questions.

  4. Berta Schoen 2024-10-23

This is a decent sporty car for the money, with plenty of standard features and great economy. However, some switches (headlights) still feel cheap, and the engine can feel asthmatic with the a/c on, which can be a lot in Arizona. You may find some drivers riding your tail after green lights while you get up to speed. The driver's armrest on the door is rock hard, which can be uncomfortable for some. The shifter can also be slow and balky. On the bright side, the SE rims add a wonderful sporty look to the car, so if you can, get the SE as it totally transforms the look of the car. Overall, it's a great choice for those looking for a sporty car with good value.

I've had this car for 3 years now and unfortunately, I've experienced a few issues. The inside armrest for the driver can't bear much weight and is now sagging. I had to get an alignment done because there was a lot of play in the steering and the car felt disconnected on bumpy roads, which made it feel downright dangerous to drive. Although the alignment made it much better, it still doesn't inspire confidence. The battery went out at 12,000 miles and I'm just waiting for the new one to go out. Additionally, the 'passenger airbag off' light is now flickering and the remote for the alarm/unlock/lock has to be pressed several times to get it to work. However, the brakes and shocks have held up well so far. Lastly, the plastic panels near the right back seat rattle and the stock tires are not the best quality.

I purchased this car from Enterprise primarily for its fuel efficiency. I am getting a little over 30 mpg, even though most of my driving is in town, with some on the turnpikes. The only repair I have had to make was replacing the battery a year ago. Now, at 53,000 miles, I do need two new tires. Since I bought the car from Enterprise with 31,000 miles, I am not sure if they replaced the tires before I purchased it. This car is a joy to drive, it turns on a dime, and has a better sound system than you might expect. I will definitely consider buying another Hyundai, perhaps a Sonata next time, as it is bigger and more stylish.

I was pleasantly surprised with the ride, comfort, and quietness of the vehicle. It even surpassed my 2002 Honda Civic LX when it was new. I was also impressed with its acceleration.

Very small and cute! It's definitely good for the price. I was able to get one with AC for $12,200 OTD and it runs really well - smooth and quiet. Plus, it's surprisingly roomy!

I'm so glad to hear that you love your Hyundai Accent! It's great to hear that you're getting around 30mpg on gas and that you've had a positive experience with the warranty and roadside assistance. It's always reassuring to know that you're covered in case of any issues. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us, and we hope you continue to enjoy your car for many years to come!

This is such a lovely little car! It's both comfortable and reliable. I've been driving it for 11,000 miles and was getting around 27mpg, but now I'm getting an impressive 30mpg! My daily commute is 25 miles, with a mix of back roads and city driving, and on the highway, I'm getting around 35mpg. The only issue I've noticed is that the tires aren't the best quality - they're starting to show some wear at just 13,000 miles, even though they're supposed to last for 40,000 miles.
