The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.

The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.

In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

Negative 2013 Hyundai Accent car reviews

  1. Percy McCullough 2024-09-14

Your car served you well for 8 years and 72k miles, but unfortunately the engine failed. It would have been great if Hyundai had taken better care of you with their 10 year warranty. It took a bit longer than expected for them to decide whether to fix it or not, which left you without a vehicle for 3 weeks. You had to mention your 'Next course of Action' for them to act, but thankfully the issue was resolved. Despite this experience, you have decided to switch to Honda. Thank you for sharing your feedback with us!

  2. Antonio Kihn 2024-08-22

I see that you had a 2013 Accent for 7 years and managed to get 120k miles out of it. It's unfortunate that the engine blew out on a busy highway without any warning, but I'm glad to hear that you were able to make it to the breakdown lane safely. It's understandable that you would be frustrated with the situation, but I appreciate you sharing your experience. Thank you for the warning about the 2013 Hyundai Accent.

  3. Dennis Bailey 2024-08-18

Although my experience with this particular car was not ideal, I can confidently say that I have owned several other vehicles that have lasted for years and have been very reliable. Unfortunately, this Hyundai did not meet my expectations and only lasted just past 101K. However, I understand that every car is different and has its own unique set of issues. While I may not purchase another Hyundai in the future, I will continue to explore other options and make an informed decision based on my personal needs and preferences.

  4. Dave DuBuque 2024-05-27

I purchased this car with 30,000 miles and initially found it to be a great investment. However, at around 100,000 miles, I had to replace the engine and have the transmission rebuilt. Unfortunately, during a routine oil change at 150,000 miles, my mechanic discovered metal in the oil. Subsequently, the car required a new engine once again. It is disappointing to have experienced these issues, but I am confident that with proper maintenance, this car can still provide reliable transportation.

Positive 2013 Hyundai Accent car reviews

  1. Ansley Kris 2024-08-13

This car is a great value for the money! It has good quality, low maintenance, and gets 32 mpg. The front seats are comfortable and the trunk is large. While the back seats are small and the acceleration is adequate, the sound system is good. Overall, it's a solid choice. The only downside is that it's not particularly exciting or luxurious.

  2. Antwon Hintz 2024-08-11

Great car for the price! I also have a 2013 Accent SE and the gas mileage is fantastic - way better than the VW Beetle I used to have. It's also very roomy and the trunk is a good size.

  3. Jarred Champlin 2024-07-17

Several years ago I swore that I would never own a Hyundai. However, after purchasing the Accent, we are extremely pleased with our decision. With 10,000 miles so far, we have seen a low of 34mpg and a high of 43mpg, with 38-40mpg for our typical city driving. Not only is it nearly hybrid-like in economy, but it is also much more fun to drive and costs tens of thousands less. The only downside is that it does not come with better tires and cruise control. Overall, we highly recommend the Accent!

  4. Xander Leannon 2024-07-16

This is my around the town car. I fill it up once a week. It's small enough to fit into any parking space. I absolutely love the Bluetooth feature. I always take it to the dealership for servicing, and it drives great. The only concern I have about the car is that the front end sits low to the ground. This means that if you park the car over a curb, when you pull out, the curb can pull out your front bumper. I've learned to park with my front end sitting way before a curb. This car is amazing on gas mileage. When I drove five states away, I only needed to fill up once.

  5. Jacey Wilkinson 2024-07-11

I test drove the Honda Fit and Kia Soul, but unfortunately, neither of them could match the Accent's impressive mpg. Since I have a 40mi all-highway daily commute, I was looking for something that was both economical and comfortable. I usually drive around 75-80mph and frequently use cruise control. However, the Fit was quite noisy on the highway (4000rpm), and the materials quality was subpar. On the other hand, the Kia was very comfortable and quiet on the highway, but it was more space than we needed. Luckily, my wife has a 2010 Insight, which is essentially a wagon, so we use her car for road trips or large loads. The Accent's 6th gear is a game-changer when it comes to gas mileage. With cruise control set to 80mph and eco mode ON, I am averaging an impressive 44mpg hwy at a quiet 2500rpm. I am very pleased with my purchase!
