The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.

The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.

In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2017-11-27
  • VIN: KMHCN46C46U
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON. HYUNDAI ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY FOR THE OCCUPANT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM. THE DEALER WILL NOT DETERMINE THE CAUSE OF THE ISSUE WITHOUT A DIAGNOSTIC FEE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND SHOULD BE A RECALL SO THE DEALER WILL INSPECT AND ASSIST.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-08-20
  • VIN: KMHCN46C86U
  • Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: SUN VISORS BREAK OFF AT THE CONNECTION POINT AND AND THEN FLOP DOWN BLOCKING YOUR VIEW OF THE ROAD. THIS IS FROM JUST NORMAL USE. THE DRIVERS SIDE VISOR BROKE LAST YEAR. AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-05-01
  • VIN: KMHCN46C06U
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: I HAVE A 2006 ACCENT. I RECENTLY FOUND OUT IT NEEDS A PASSENGER SEAT SENSOR PANEL REPLACED IN ORDER TO FIX THE AIRBAGS. (THAT IS, MAKE ANY OF THE AIRBAGS WORK) I JUST NOW LEARNED I HAVEN'T HAVEN'T HAD AIRBAGS FOR 2 YEARS.!!!! (ACTUALLY OUR KIDS HAVEN'T --OUR SONS HAD THE CAR AT COLLEGE, DRIVING HOME ON THE INTERSTATE FOR 2.5 HOURS - WITH NO AIRBAGS) THE LIGHT WAS ON. FIRST 2 YEARS AGO. I ASKED MY MECHANIC. THAT MECHANIC NEVER ALERTED ME THAT I HAD TO GO TO A DEALER. MY CURRENT MECHANIC DID - SO WE WENT TO THE HYUNDAI DEALER, PAYING THEIR $80 SERVICE FEE JUST FOR THEM TO TELL ME IT WILL COST ME AROUND $960 TO FIX IT!!! I KNOW FROM FORUMS THAT OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD THIS PROBLEM AND WE HAVE ALL BEEN TOLD ITS A $1000 TO FIX. JUST THE PART IS $700+!!!! I ALSO READ THAT HYUNDAI HAD AIRBAG PROBLEMS WITH 2006 SONATAS AND FIXED THEM. WHY NOT THE ACCENT???? WHY DON'T YOU HAVE TO STAND BEHIND A FAULTY PART ON MULTIPLE CARS? I HAVE READ OF MANY PEOPLE HAVING THIS ISSUE. THIS IS MY DILEMMA: IF I SELL THE CAR I HATE TO SELL A CAR WITH OUT AIRBAGS AND I WILL NOT LIE TO THE BUYER. IF I KEEP IT I HAVE TO FIX IT ---FOR OUR SAFETY. BUT PUT $1000 IN A CAR THAT IS ONLY WORTH $2500???

AIR BAGS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-02-04
  • VIN: KMHCN46C56U
  • Components: AIR BAGS,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
  • Summary: I'M DRIVING MY CAR FOR ALMOST TWO YEARS NOW AND THE LIGHTS FOR THE AIR BAGS ARE STILL ON AND HAVE NEVER WENT OFF. SO I THOUGHT, SUPPOSEDLY MAY BE THE FUSE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BUT SO FAR TO THIS DATE I CANNOT DETERMINE WHAT'S THE ISSUE OTHER THAN A FAULTY AIR BAG SYSTEM. NO I HAVEN'T TAKEN THE CAR TO A DEALER YET, BUT I NEED TO KNOW AM I THE ONLY PERSON HAVING THIS ISSUE.I LOVE THE VEHICLE BESIDES ITS UNINTENTIONAL POOR GAS USAGE I AM A SATISFIED CUSTOMER. BUT PERHAPS MAYBE ITS TIME TO START SEARCHING FOR A MORE EFFICIENT NEWER CAR. BE CAREFUL WHEN BUYING USED CARS EVERYBODY.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2015-06-10
  • VIN: KMHCN46C56U
  • Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SUN VISORS ON THE 2006 ACCENT WILL NO LONGER STAY IN THE UPRIGHT POSITION. THE VISORS NOW HANG LOOSELY AND LIMIT VISIBILITY WHEN DRIVING, THE SWINGING BACK AND FORTH WHILE ACCELERATING AND BRAKING CAN BE DISTRACTING AND IS UNSAFE. I HAVE LOOKED TO PURCHASE THE ORIGINAL OEM PARTS TO REPLACE, BUT HAVE DISCOVERED THAT HYUNDAI NO LONGER USES THE ORIGINAL PARTS AND THAT NEW VISORS WAS MANUFACTURED. I HAVE FOUND SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FOR MULTIPLE HYUNDAI MODELS ON THIS SITE AND ON ARFC.ORG. IT APPEARS THAT HYUNDAI RECOGNIZED A FAULTY PART THAT LEADS TO LIMITED VISIBILITY AND DISTRACTION WHILE DRIVING BUT DID NOT ISSUE A RECALL. A RECALL SHOULD BE ISSUED.

VISIBILITY/WIPER PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-10-15
  • VIN: KMHCN46C36U
  • Components: VISIBILITY/WIPER
  • Summary: DRIVING DURING NORMAL CONDITIONS AT 45 MPH, FOR NO REASON THE DRIVERS SIDE SUN VISOR DROPPED DOWN AND IMPAIRED MY VISION. I PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND TRY TO RETURN IT TO ITS NORMAL POSITION WITH NO SUCCESS. I HAVE TRIED VELCRO AND TAPE BUT IT WILL NOT STAY UP. IT IS SERIOUS DRIVING HAZARD, AND JUDGING BY FORUMS ON THE INTERNET, MANY, MANY PEOPLE ARE AFFECTED BY IT. HYUNDAI SHOULD DO A RECALL AND HAVE THE ISSUE FIXED. *TR

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-12-08
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: I NOTICED THAT MY AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND STAYED ILLUMINATED. I BROUGHT IT TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT THE PASSENGER LOWER CUSHION SENSOR ASSEMBLY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED (FOR APPROX. $1,000). WAS TOLD THAT NONE OF THE AIRBAGS WOULD WORK IN A COLLISION UNTIL IT WAS REPLACED. SINCE I CAN'T AFFORD TO REPLACE IT NOW, I HAVE NO AIRBAGS. (I ALSO OWN A 2002 HONDA CIVIC AND HONDA JUST RECENTLY REPLACED BOTH FRONT AIRBAGS IN A RECALL.) MAKE SURE THAT IF YOU CHOOSE TO BUY A USED HYUNDAI YOU'RE IN A POSITION TO SPEND AN EXTRA $1000 IF YOU WANT YOUR AIRBAGS TO WORK. YOU MIGHT WANT TO HAVE THE DEALER DO A CODE CHECK TO BE SURE THAT THE AIR BAGS ARE WORKING. THEN AGAIN, IT COULD BE FINE TODAY AND A B1448 CODE TOMORROW. IT'S SAD THAT THE GOVERNMENT REQUIRES AUTO MAKERS TO INSTALL AIRBAGS, BUT THEY DON'T REQUIRE THAT THEY WORK. FACING A $1000 AIR BAG REPAIR, I DO NOT RECOMMEND BUYING A NEW OR USED HYUNDAI. *TR

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-06-02
  • VIN: KMHCN46C96U
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: THE AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT WENT ON. MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE THE DRIVER'S SIDE SEAT BELT SENSOR TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM. AS THIS AIR BAG SENSOR IS BEING INVESTIGATED IN THE HYUNDAI SONATA MODELS, I THINK THERE MAY BE A PROBLEM WITH OTHER MODELS THIS COMPANY OFFERS, ESPECIALLY IF THEY ARE USING THE SAME SEAT BELT ASSEMBLY IN ALL MODELS. VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR FOR A PROBLEM I HAVE NEVER SEEN IN MANY YEARS OF DRIVING. *TR

  • Date Of Incident: 2012-07-29
  • VIN: 5NPEU46F76H
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
  • Summary: SEAT BELT LIGHT CAME ON AGAIN. THIS WAS THE THIRD TIME. ABOUT 2 YEARS EARLIER THIS HAPPENED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE FIRST TIME WAS ABOUT A YEAR EARLIER AND HYUNDAI COVERED THAT. CODE B1706 APPEARS WHEN READ FOR $150 AND HYUNDAI WILL NOT FIX IT EVEN UNDER THEIR EXTENDED WARRANTY. THEY DID NOT WANT TO FIX THE FIRST TWO TIMES EITHER. I DO NOT KNOW IF MY AIRBAGS WORK. HYUNDAI HAS SENSOR PROBLEMS AND KNOWS IT. THIS IS THE DRIVER SEATBELT SENSOR. THEY WANT $702.00 TO FIX THIS DEFECT. I WILL NOT PAY FOR THEIR BAD ENGINEERING. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS A RECALL. THEIR OXYGEN SENSORS ALSO SEEM TO FAIL ON THE ENGINE. THEY WILL NOT COVER THAT EITHER. ALL OF THESE FAILURES ARE FEDERAL MANDATED ITEMS. *JS

VISIBILITY PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2014-07-24
  • VIN: KMHCN46CX6U
  • Components: VISIBILITY
  • Summary: MY DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR ROTATION SUPPORT SNAPPED UPON ROTATING IT'S CLOSED POSITION TO IT'S FORWARD POSITION TOWARDS THE WINDSHIELD. IT APPEARS TO HAVE BEEN MADE OF PLASTIC. IT NOW HANGS FREELY DOWNWARD BLOCKING MY VIEW COMPLETELY. TURNING IT'S POSITION TO THE LEFT TOWARDS THE DRIVER SIDE WINDOW HELPS MY FORWARD VIEW, BUT BLOCKS MY LEFT SIDE VIEW COMPLETELY UNLESS I HUNCH DOWN. THERE IS NO NEUTRAL POSITION TO MOVE THIS VISOR TO UNTIL I CAN GET IT FIXED, WHICH IS CAUSING A SERIOUS DRIVING HAZARD. EVEN A SIMPLE METAL CLIP TO LOCK THE VISOR IN PLACE TEMPORARILY WOULD HAVE BEEN TREMENDOUSLY HELPFUL. *TR

AIR BAGS PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2011-06-01
  • VIN: KMHCN46C46U
  • Components: AIR BAGS
  • Summary: THE ISSUE IS THAT THE AIRBAG LIGHT IS ON; I BROUGHT THIS VEHICLE TO THE HYUNDAI DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES OVER THE LAST FEW YEARS, AND EACH TIME THEY RAN SOME KIND OF DIAGNOSTIC TEST ON IT, THE AIRBAG LIGHT WOULD BE OFF A FEW MONTHS, AND THEN MYSTERIOUSLY WOULD BE BACK ON AGAIN; I KEPT FOLLOWING THIS PROCESS UNTIL THEY TOLD ME THE WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED AND TO REALLY FIX THE ISSUE I HAD TO COUGH UP ALMOST $1,000 .... AND, WHY AM I BEING ASKED TO PAY THIS KIND OF MONEY FOR A MANUFACTURER DEFECT? PLEASE FINALLY INVESTIGATE THIS ISSUE AND BRING 2006 HYUNDAI ACCENT OWNERS THE KIND OF CLOSURE THAT THE 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA OWNERS HAD FOR THE SAME ISSUE. CLEARLY WE HAVE A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT THAT IS IMMINENT AFTER VIEWING THE MULTIPLE ISSUES WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM; AND IT'S TOO MUCH OF A COINCIDENCE THAT THERE WAS A RECALL ON THE 2006 HYUNDAI SONATA'S FOR THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE AIRBAG LIGHT. IS AN ANALYST AT YOUR OFFICE FINALLY GOING TO "FLAG" THIS AS A REAL ISSUE AND ADDRESS THIS AND PURSUE IT. DO THE RESEARCH AND YOU WILL FIND OUT WHAT I DID. PLEASE CONTACT THE 2006 HYUNDAI ACCENT OWNERS THAT ALSO HAVE THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS MORE THAN ABOUT MONEY, IT'S CLEAR AS THE NOSE ON ANYONE'S FACE THAT THIS IS A MANUFACTURER DEFECT THAT NOONE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY FOR.

  • Summary: I HAVE A 2006 HYUNDAI ACCENT. THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH HAS GONE OUT ON MY VEHICLE. THIS IS ACTUALLY THE 2ND TIME THIS HAS HAPPENED. IT WENT OUT THE FIRST TIME IN THE 2007 OR 2008 TIME FRAME. I HAD IT REPLACE UNDER WARRANTY. ABOUT A WEEK AGO THE BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH WENT OUT AGAIN. WHEN I WENT ONTO PEPBOYS WEBSITE AND PUT MY CAR INFORMATION IN THE ALERT OF A BRAKE LIGHT SWITCH RECALL CAME UP. I CONTACT HYUNDAI TO SEE IF MY CAR WOULD QUALIFY FOR THE RECALL SINCE MY SWITCH HAS FAILED AND IS A 2006 MODEL. THEY CLAIM MY CAR DOES NOT MEET THE RECALL LIST. I TOLD THEM THAT MY SWITCH HAS ALREADY FAIL AND THEY SAID THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT. I FEEL THAT THEY PUT A BAD SWITCH ON MY CAR AND THAT THE RECALL SHOULD HAVE COVERED MY CAR. I HAVE HAD 2 SWITCH FAIL ON THAT CAR AND THE SECOND WAS PUT IN DURING THE TIME OF THE RECALL COVERED BUT THEY STILL REFUSE TO COVER. MY CAR IS UNSAFE RIGHT NOW UNTIL I HAVE IT FIXED AND HYUNDAI CLAIMS THAT THE PROBLEM PART IS NOT THERE PROBLEM. *TR

NOW I DO NOT HAVE A VISOR AT ALL AND IT AFFECTS MY DRIVING IMMENSELY AS I HAVE NOTHING TO KEEP THE SUN OUT OF MY EYES. 2006 Hyundai Accent recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 3 recalls for different components of the 2006 Hyundai Accent.

2013-04-01
  • Manufacturer: Hyundai Motor Company
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:BRAKE LIGHTS:SWITCH
  • Summary: Hyundai Motor Company (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2006-2009 Accent, model year 2007-2011 Azera, Sonata and Sante Fe,2006-2011 Tucson, 2009-2011 Elantra Touring, 2007-2010 Elantra, 2008-2011 Veracruz, 2009-2011 Genesis, 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, 2007-2008 Entourage, and 2006-2008 Tiburon vehicles. Originally, in April 2013, Hyundai recalled 1,059,824 model year 2007-2009 Accent and Tucson, model year 2007-2010 Elantra, model year 2007-2011 Santa Fe, model year 2008-2009 Veracruz, model year 2010-2011 Genesis Coupe, and model year 2011 Sonata vehicles. In September 2013, Hyundai informed the agency that it was adding more vehicles to this campaign, representing an additional 652,512 units. The total number of vehicles being recalled is now 1,712,336. In the affected vehicles, the stop lamp switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning stop lamp switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning stop lamp switch may also result in intermittent operation of the push-button start feature, affect the operation of the brake transmission shift interlock feature, preventing the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position and cause the Electronic Stability Control (ESC) malfunction light to illuminate.
  • Consequence: Failure to illuminate the stop lamps during braking or inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash. Additionally, when the ignition is in the 'ON' position, the transmission shifter may be able to be moved out of Park without first applying the brake. This may lead to unintentional movement of the car which may increase the risk of a crash.
  • Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the stop lamp switch, free of charge. The safety recall began on April 22, 2013. Owners may contact Hyundai at 1-800-633-5151. Hyundai's recall campaign number is 110.
2009-07-21
  • Manufacturer: HYUNDAI CARIBBEAN-PUERTO RICO
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: HYUNDAI IS RECALLING 3,011 MODEL YEAR 2005-2007 ELANTRA, TUCSON, SONATA, AZERA AND ACCENT VEHICLES. A MALFUNCTIONING STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO FAIL TO ILLUMINATE WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED OR MAY CAUSE THE BRAKE LIGHTS TO REMAIN ILLUMINATED WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS RELEASED. A DEFECTIVE STOP LAMP SWITCH MAY ALSO AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFT OUT OF THE "PARK" POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.
  • Consequence: ANY OF THESE MALFUNCTIONS COULD LEAD TO A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE STOP LAMP SWITCH FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL BEGAN ON SEPTEMBER 2, 2009. OWNERS MAY CONTACT HYUNDAI OF PUERTO RICO CUSTOMER SERVICE AT 1-787-999-4310.

A STOP LAMP SWITCH MALFUNCTION MAY ALSO AFFECT THE OPERATION OF THE BRAKE-TRANSMISSION SHIFT INTERLOCK FEATURE SO THE TRANSMISSION SHIFTER WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO BE SHIFTED OUT OF THE PARK POSITION. IT MAY ALSO CAUSE THE ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL (ESC) MALFUNCTION LIGHT TO ILLUMINATE, AND IT MAY NOT DEACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL WHEN THE BRAKE PEDAL IS DEPRESSED.

Negative 2006 Hyundai Accent car reviews

  1. Jerald Schoen 2024-11-22

I am confident that this car is capable of achieving the promised gas mileage. While I understand that you are currently experiencing lower than expected mileage, it is important to consider that there may be external factors affecting this. I suggest exploring different driving techniques and ensuring that the car is properly maintained to optimize fuel efficiency. It is also worth noting that other owners have reported good mileage, indicating that this issue may be specific to your situation. Let's work together to find a solution that meets your needs and expectations.

Positive 2006 Hyundai Accent car reviews

  1. Hudson Wisozk 2025-01-02

You've had the car for five months and it sounds like you've had some great experiences with it! The ride is soft and smooth, with good noise insulation and a great stereo for the price. Plus, there are lots of amenities to enjoy. The car has plenty of room for its size, good trunk space, and handles curves really well. Of course, there are some downsides, like the gas mileage not being great - around 21 to 23 miles per gallon in the city, and even less if you like to drive fast. But even then, the car is still fun to drive and responds quickly enough for city needs. On mountain roads, you might need to push the accelerator a bit, but the ride remains stable on fast curves. Overall, it sounds like you're enjoying your car and making the most of its features!

  2. Braulio Huels 2024-11-24

This is a fantastic little car! It's so comfortable and roomy, with tight brakes and excellent handling during turns. The stereo system is better than average, and the motor is quiet with relatively low road noise. It also gets reasonable gas mileage. I find it much more comfortable and roomy than my previous Honda Civic. I feel like I'm sitting higher up, which helps me aim high in steering. And at less than $13K, it's an absolute steal! I highly recommend this vehicle and am very happy with it!

A great little car with all the safety features. It's a lot of fun to drive and has excellent miles per gallon! This car has a lot of pick-up and is very quiet on the road.

I just wanted to say that I love my 2006 Accent. It has a ton of features that most economy cars don't have, such as 4 wheel ABS, front and side airbags, several cup holders, armrests in the front passenger side and rear seat, 4 wheel disc brakes, CD player with a 6 speaker system, and a tachometer. With the rebate, I paid $12,500 for the manual transmission. I think this is the best deal on the market, and the new design for 06 is sweet. Mine is wine red, and it gets 35 mpg so far.

This is my very first car. I'm really enjoying it, although I have noticed that the paint is already starting to chip after only 5 weeks. Someone suggested that I buy some touch up paint and a sealant to help protect it. On the plus side, it's been great on gas!
