2014 Hyundai Accent problems
The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.
The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.
In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

Common 2014 Hyundai Accent problems
Based on complaints from owners of the 2014 Hyundai Accent, several common problems have been reported:
- Limited Space and Comfort: The back seats of the Hyundai Accent are reported to be slanted, making it challenging to fit car seats properly without additional support like a folded towel or pool noodle. This can lead to discomfort and safety concerns, especially for families with small children.
- Low Ground Clearance and Exterior Vulnerability: The front of the car is low to the ground, leading to easy scratching and damage. The plastic exterior is prone to breaking easily, and the car's bumper can come off when parked too close to curbs, indicating vulnerability in everyday use.
- Engine Performance and Speed: Some owners have noted that the Hyundai Accent's small engine makes it difficult to speed up quickly, especially when merging onto highways or major roads. This lack of power can be a drawback for drivers seeking a more responsive driving experience.
- Braking System Noise: The brakes of the Hyundai Accent have been reported to squeak when it rains heavily, which can be frustrating for owners. This noise issue may affect the driving experience and require attention for maintenance and potential repairs.
- Limited Storage and Basic Features: Owners have highlighted the lack of storage space besides the glove compartment, indicating a minimalistic design with limited practicality. Additionally, the car is described as a very basic model with only one armrest for the driver, potentially affecting comfort and convenience during drives.
These common problems reported by owners of the 2014 Hyundai Accent encompass a range of issues from comfort and safety concerns to performance and maintenance challenges. Addressing these issues can help potential buyers make informed decisions about the suitability of this car model for their needs.

ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-09-02
- Fire: 1
- VIN: KMHCT4AE1EU
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,SERVICE BRAKES,ENGINE
- Summary: I was entering highway on entrance ramp there was a loud pop and I could see plumes of smoke coming from under the car, so I turned the ignition off on the car and pulled over to the shoulder, the brakes failed so I had to let it coast to a stop. Then I waited until I could safely exit the vehicle and did so quickly. I had the vehicle towed to a local shop, and they told me I should report it. There was no warning that it was about to happen and yes its available for inspection still sitting at the shop I had it towed to. They also said I should have it towed to the manufacturer service center but this is my first time dealing with anything like this so Im unsure what to do. I did do a cursory inspection under the hood with a mechanic from the shop and there was a burnt wire and a bunch of what looked like oil down at the bottom of the engine, but the oil was still full so I dont think it was oil.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-08-07
- VIN: KMHCT4AE2EU
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: There have been 2 recalls in which this vehicle was serviced for within the past year- 1 for undercoating 2 for leaking brake fluid fuse. Neither time were my brake lines inspected for any damage. One month after the fuse was replaced, my brakes went out with the dealership saying the lines were rusted through. Now, we are stuck without a vehicle because there are no brake lines available for this vehicle, everything is on back order with no eta. Had either time this car was serviced for these band aid recalls been looked at, we would not be in the situation we are now. No vehicle, no parts available, a dealership completely unwilling to work with us. Research was done and every vehicle in the 2014 Hyundai class except for the Accents were recalled in Canada for brake lines rusting out after undercoating in Canada. This needs to be looked into because as it stands, our estimate is $2600 to fix an issue that should had been better addressed with these recalls. We were driving back from an outing with our grandchildren when the brakes went completely out with no warning. The brake light did not come when the brakes failed. By the Grace of God we were able to get this car to a Hyundai dealership where it sits today due to poor communication on their part, no parts, and complete frustration on our end.

- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: September 22, 2023 recall notice. Told to park outside. Four months later, there has been no remedy. This is too long to require owners to park cars outside due to fire hazard. SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-28
- VIN: KMHCU5AE9EU
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: ABS system malfunctioned in the following manner. ABS sensor displayed. Brakes pedal must be depressed to the floorboard in order to "try" to stop. The emergency "e brake" will not engage & is non-functioning. Contacted Hyundai Headquarters for recall resolution as this issue could harm/kill my child &/or others. The car is unsafe to be driven. Hyundai resolution rep made an appt for at a local dealership. The dealership stated they would repair the car regardless of the recall, but I would have to pay & have Hyundai "try" to reimburse me as they do not have a "fix" for the recall as it could supposedly start a fire &/or lose braking system. Question? How can you repair a vehicle due to recall failure, yet NOT have a "fix" for the recall? Something not adding up. Start of incident with car July 2023. I continue to have to pay for insurance and tag registrations for a car that cannot be driven safely as Hyundai states there is no "fix" as of yet. Due to fire risk the car must be parked outside to endure weather elements which deteriorates the vehicle.

It is actually quite roomy inside! The horn may be a bit meagre, but it's still workable. Plus, the car has great pickup and excellent mileage.
-
Great car for the price! I also have a 2013 Accent SE and the gas mileage is fantastic - way better than the VW Beetle I used to have. It's also very roomy and the trunk is a good size.
-
This car saved my life! I was rear-ended by a drunk driver last night and the car was totaled. Miraculously, I walked away with only a concussion. Despite the damage, the car performed exceptionally well. I am definitely going to keep buying this car for its reliability and safety. I highly recommend it if you're looking for a car that can keep you safe on the road.
-
I find the driver's seat in my 2013 Accent to be extremely uncomfortable, unlike any other seat I have experienced in my 45 years of driving. Interestingly, my husband's 2008 Accent has a seat with lumbar support that I find much more comfortable. Despite trying various solutions such as pillows, lumbar screens, and towels, I have not been able to alleviate the discomfort. After contacting Hyundai and receiving a case number, I was advised to speak with my dealer. However, the dealer's only recommendation was to purchase a new $1000 seat or upgrade to an Elantra, which I find unreasonable. As a loyal customer who has owned 7 Hyundais, I am disappointed that the seats were redesigned without lumbar support and that Hyundai has not offered any alternative solutions.

Wow, it's great to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your car! Over the past 6 years, you've driven an impressive 108k miles and have had no issues with the motor, transmission, or brakes. It's also fantastic to hear that you've only had to replace the battery once in that time. Although you've had some trouble finding affordable replacement tires due to your driving habits, it's clear that this car has served you well. And with its excellent gas mileage, it's a great choice for anyone looking to save money on fuel. Thanks for sharing your experience!

Although my experience with this particular car was not ideal, I can confidently say that I have owned several other vehicles that have lasted for years and have been very reliable. Unfortunately, this Hyundai did not meet my expectations and only lasted just past 101K. However, I understand that every car is different and has its own unique set of issues. While I may not purchase another Hyundai in the future, I will continue to explore other options and make an informed decision based on my personal needs and preferences.

I see that you had a 2013 Accent for 7 years and managed to get 120k miles out of it. It's unfortunate that the engine blew out on a busy highway without any warning, but I'm glad to hear that you were able to make it to the breakdown lane safely. It's important to take good care of our vehicles to ensure their longevity. Thank you for sharing your experience and warning others about the potential risks.
