2015 Hyundai Accent problems
The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.
The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.
In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

Common 2015 Hyundai Accent problems
Based on the information gathered from various sources regarding common problems with the 2015 Hyundai Accent reported by owners, several issues stand out:
- Excessive Engine Oil Burning: Another prevalent problem is excessive engine oil burning in the 2015 Accent. Owners have reported the engine burning around 1 quart of oil every 800 miles, requiring frequent top-ups. This issue can lead to engine knocking and potential engine seizure if not addressed promptly.
- Electrical Issues: The Accent has been noted to have instrument console problems, causing distractions to drivers. Additionally, complaints about radio problems, including signal drops and failed calls due to issues with the Bluetooth module, have been raised. These electrical issues can impact the driving experience negatively.
- Steering Issues: Some owners have reported a clicking sound coming from the steering wheel when turning at low speeds. This issue has been observed in Kia vehicles as well, and manufacturers are working on replacing the steering coupler to address this problem.
- Exterior Issues: Weak front bumper locks have been a concern for Accent owners, with reports of bumpers falling off unexpectedly. This issue poses a safety hazard, especially if the bumper detaches while the car is in motion. Upgrades to the bumper locks have been recommended for a more secure connection.
- Safety Concerns: Problems with the Occupant Detection System (ODS) have been highlighted, with reports of malfunctioning ODS leading to the airbag warning light illuminating while driving. This malfunction can disable the passenger-side airbags, increasing the risk of injury in the event of a crash.
These issues reflect common complaints from owners of the 2015 Hyundai Accent and highlight areas where improvements or repairs may be necessary to enhance the overall driving experience and safety of the vehicle.

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-06-05
- VIN: KMHCT5AE2FU
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: Around the middle of May 2024 I received a recall notice #23V651000. I made an appointment for approximately 2 weeks on June 5. When I arrived I was told the part was never ordered. Coconut Creek Hyundai said they would order the part and call me in a few days. After not hearing for 2 weeks I went back to Hyundai and was told the part hadn’t come in and to go home and they would call me in a few days. After several more weeks I went back and was told the part still hadn’t arrived. It was about a month and a half and still no part. The service manager told me that Hyundai USA was placing a low priority on my model car and manufacturing that part last after all the other models. It’s now 4 months later and I have never received any call from Coconut Creek Hyundai. When this first happened I contacted both Coconut Creek Hyundai and Hyundai USA. Hyundai USA said they couldn’t interfere with the local dealer even though it’s a Federal Safety Recall! Hyundai Coconut Creek basically blew me off. I think this is deliberate on the part of Hyundai USA to service higher cost vehicles before lower cost. They are playing games with my personal safety and that of my car. They are deliberately defying the recall! I believe whatever compliance procedures you have in place should be enforced to the fullest including fines if necessary. Again they are defying the recall and putting my safety and other Accent owners in jeopardy simply for profits.
POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-07-29
- VIN: KMHCU4AE1FU
- Components: POWER TRAIN,UNKNOWN OR OTHER,ENGINE
- Summary: My 2015 Hyundai Accent started having issues with oil consumption at about 80,000 miles or so. I was having to check and add oil to the vehicle regularly in addition to oil changes. The oil consumption issue got worse as the vehicle got higher in miles, having to check and add oil every 600-1000 miles approximately. I was not aware of the known issue with Hyundai motors and the oil consumption so I was not tracking milage or dates of adding oil unfortunately. At about 100,135 miles, the vehicle suddenly broke down on my way to work. There was no warning other than the oil consumption problem. The car RPMs got very high and the car started decelerating until it wouldn't go forward anymore and was stalled on the side of the road. I had the vehicle towed to a Hyundai dealership and at this time it waiting for the diagnosis, however, they are sure that the head gasket has to be removed (for $500) to get that diagnosis. When the car died, there were no warning lights on at all, however, previously, there had been lights for low oil occasionally, but not always, when the oil was low. Many times when I checked and the oil was low, there was no light that indicated that it was low.

- Components: ENGINE
- Summary: On [XXX] the engine in my 2015 Hyundai Accent suddenly failed while traveling on [XXX] near Milesburg, PA. While attempting to accelerate, the vehicle completely stopped. It was able to be coasted to the side of the roadway, but was unable to be driven after that. It was towed back to South Williamsport to Steve Shannon's garage (where it still sits). After inspection by the mechanics it was noted that there was a hole through the engine (not from puncture) to where they were able to watch the pistons moving from underneath. There were no warnings or issues prior to this event. This event put my brother, sister in law and two toddler nephews in danger as they sat on the side of [XXX] waiting an hour for me to get there to pick them up, as they were borrowing my vehicle to take a family trip to the Pittsburgh Zoo. I believe the speed limit in that area is 65mph. Therefore, traffic (to include semi-trucks) were traveling at least 65mph passing the vehicle and my family on the side of the road. PSP was able to come out and stage with their lights activated until my arrival. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-09-01
- VIN: KMHCT4AE1FU
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ENGINE,FUEL/PROPULSION SYSTEM
- Summary: Okay, I'm going to try my best at explaining what I am experiencing. This is my SECOND Hyundai Accent. The first car I had was a 2004 Accent. The second car I have now is a 2015. Both cars have the same exact problem. And I am NOT fixing it. This is definitely a MANUFACTURING ERROR. It's so dangerous too, because my engine could just BLOW UP. Anywhoooo, both cars just BURN OIL LIKE GAS. I repeat, BURN OIL LIKE GAS. I need to check the oil every (at the most) 2 weeks because of how badly oil is just burning up. Also, there is a "Check Engine" code being thrown for something small in the EVAP System. Same cars, 11 years apart. Same problems!? I don't think that is right WHATSOEVER. I have researched ongoing recalls & expired recalls. To my disappointment, I find NOTHING. This is a MAJOR ISSUE. There is absolutely zero irony in 2 cars, being 11 years apart, newer one being a 6 speed manual, having the SAME ISSUES EXACTLY. I was so happy to get a newer one, thinking, "oh there can't be possibly anything wrong with this model". WRONG. Absolutely, positively NO CAR should have to dump almost 5 quarts of oil in your car every 1000 miles or less. I constantly need to buy 1 or 2 quarts of oil BIWEEKLY for this 2015 Hyundai Accent. I can't just get rid of it, cars are expensive! This is absolutely the manufacturers problem. So I am going above their heads to get this taken care of. Monday, I want to try and call Hyundai, either the one near me, or some "hotline". This is unacceptable. My car will show that "low oil pressure" light and my heart just drops. "I just put oil in it!". I say to myself. Do not get me wrong. I love my car. I want my car taken care of. As, when I bought it, Blaise Alexander *apparently* didn't know about it. And they flat out lied about the check engine light! I've had numerous people look at it. They hardly have an answer. Its expensive and labor intensive. Please help me solve this problem. I am NOT the only one. -Morgan Buerk

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2021-09-15
- VIN: KMHCT5AE4FU
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: The steering wheel, when in use in turning, emanates a fairly distinct "clicking" sound whether turning left or right. I have been told this happens in Hyundai and Kia vehicles, and that there has been some movement from manufacturer to replace the "Steering Coupler" in some models. I first noticed mine approximately 6 months ago. Will I receive a recall letter from my dealership to replace mine? I bought new in (August 2015) and now have only 57,000 miles on vehicle. I am afraid if this gets worse I might loose ability to steer and that it could happen at the worst possible moment. Can you help? [XXX] I want this information shared with NTSB, I want any and all recalls to come to my email and home address via US Mail. Thank you INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

I absolutely adore this car! I've had it for 16 months and have already driven 50,000 miles due to my work (averaging over 60 hours a month), but it still runs like a dream. I've even given it a nickname - The Tiny Little Road Dawg - as a nod to my alma mater, UGA. I've been tracking the MPG for months and you can check it out on FEULY.COM under Road Dawg. In real-world driving, I get about 35 mpg (the car's tracker is always about 3 mpg high), and up to 40+ if I'm doing long road trips at 55-65 mph. If I'm going faster or doing city driving, it drops off a bit, but if you stick to the speed limit or close to it, you'll do very well. Back in the mid-90s, we had a 2-door Accent with a stick shift that only got 27 mpg, so it's amazing how far things have come. This car is so much nicer and more advanced, and it gets better MPG without even trying. It's the perfect
-
The car delivers a solid driving experience and is highly reliable. I initially bought it for my wife, but I started using it interchangeably with my Jeep and it always felt like a nice drive. I would definitely recommend this car and make to anyone!
-
You won't find a better car than this one, even though it's not the fastest. It's still better than a Honda!
-
I bought my Accent last year after my Sonata was totaled in an accident. When I saw the Accent, I knew I had to take it for a test drive. It's painted in a vibrant 'Tiger Orange' color, has a hood scoop, and even has 'Tiger Stripes' on both panels above the front wheels. I took this car from New Jersey to Arizona and back, and it managed to squeeze out an impressive 49 MPG - no lie! I experienced the same MPG going to Montgomery, Alabama and back to New Jersey. I have a 6-speed manual, and I'm sure this helped with the MPG a little. The steering on this car is tight with no play in the wheel, and I love the way I can feel the road through the steering wheel. I absolutely adore this car, and living close to Princeton, NJ, my 'Tiger car' has admirers.
-
Hey there! If you're a new driver, we've got the perfect car for you! This is a great first car that you'll absolutely love.

Firstly, I must say that this was a rental car that we chose for its affordability, as we only needed it for a short journey across the state. Unfortunately, the car was not equipped with even basic features such as cruise control. The car's performance and comfort were not up to par with other cars we have owned, such as the Chevy Spark and the 2004 Hyundai Accent hatchback. The seats were particularly uncomfortable, with no helpful adjustments and no back support. The handling was also poor, and the noise from the tires, engine, and road was so loud that it made conversation difficult. The radio was outdated and reminiscent of an old AM radio. The transmission was also problematic, with a tendency to pause and hop between gears. This experience has left me disappointed in Hyundai, as I have had previous issues with their cars. I would recommend test driving other small cars, such as the Toyota Yaris, which has much more comfortable seats and a better reputation for reliability.

I rented a car for three days and noticed a few issues with it. The most concerning problem was the poor safety features. When driving uphill at night with dim headlights, the road in front of you is only lit for a few feet before a line appears across the road, leaving the rest pitch black. This can be a fatal hazard if there is an oncoming car, and even without one, it is still an unacceptable safety risk. Another safety issue I noticed was that the car doors lock when the car is in motion, and this cannot be overridden. In a hot desert climate, if the air conditioner is running and all the windows are rolled up, it may not be possible to open the door to extract a person in the event of an accident. It is recommended to keep the door unlocked while locking all other doors to prevent this. I rated the car one star due to safety concerns. Additionally, I found the gearshift and some of the other controls less than intuitive, and drove for a fair distance in 2nd gear before realizing why the car was racing. The gear is displayed on the dash, but it's easy to be confused if you don't know what you're looking at. The path of the gearshift lever was also less than obvious to me, and I had trouble locating other controls such as the lever that unlocks the gas cap. Since I was renting the car, I didn't have access to the manual to figure these things out.The clock display is rather small and difficult to see when the radio is turned on. Additionally, it cannot be seen when the car is not in operation. Although the trip meter button's function was not immediately obvious, I found it useful after trying it out. I was initially unsure where the mileage was located, but I appreciated the information I received after pressing the button repeatedly. The range in miles is also a useful feature, although it does not increase when a gallon of gas is added to the tank. Instead, it decrements more slowly, which can be disconcerting. Compared to my 1992 Volvo, the car is quite spunky, but it took some time to get used to the handling. However, I did appreciate the variable power steering assist, which made it easy to steer at slow speeds and stiffer at higher speeds. Although the car was otherwise nondescript, this feature stood out to me. The ride was a bit rough, as I could feel every bump and crack in the road. While I do not prefer a cushy feel, this was a bit too much. Additionally, the lack of visibility of the front end of the car was disconcerting.

I have a 6-speed because I love driving stick. Anyway, my car has 53,000 miles on it and unfortunately, the air conditioner stopped working just 4 months after the 6-year warranty expired. I took it to the dealership, but their prices were 3 times higher than other places, so I decided to get quotes elsewhere. It turns out that the compressors are often faulty on these cars, and the replacements are quite expensive, ranging from $1,180 to $1,850, with warranties of 2 to 3 years. The parts have to be ordered from Korea, which explains the high cost. It's a shame that cars nowadays don't seem to last as long as they used to. I had a previous 2003 Accent Hatchback with a manual transmission, and the air conditioning worked perfectly until the car's end in 2015. It seems like quality is being sacrificed for quantity, which is unfortunate. Our children and grandchildren will likely have to deal with disposable cars in the future, which will cost them a lot of money.

Hello! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with the rental car I was given after my 2013 Jetta was damaged in an accident. Unfortunately, the car I was given wasn't quite up to par. While it did get me from point A to point B, it had some issues that made the ride less than comfortable. For example, it was a bit noisy and bumpy, and it didn't have a spare tire. Overall, it wasn't the best fit for me and my family, but I'm grateful to have had a rental car to use during this time.

For a company that prides itself with reliability and best selling warranty, it is disappointing to hear that the A/C compressor now costs over $1k to replace. On a vehicle that is mass produced, there are limited options for aftermarket replacement parts and a small market for replacement parts in general. Unfortunately, in order to get any of the parts, you have to order them from Korea. We understand how frustrating this can be.
