2001 Hyundai Accent problems
The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.
The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.
In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

Common 2001 Hyundai Accent problems
The 2001 Hyundai Accent has been reported to have several common problems, primarily related to its engine, suspension, and electrical systems.
One of the most frequently reported issues is a loud engine, which can be caused by a variety of factors, including worn-out engine components or faulty engine mounts. This can lead to a decrease in the overall performance of the vehicle and may require costly repairs.
The suspension system is another area where the 2001 Hyundai Accent has been reported to have issues. Problems with the lower ball joints, wheel cylinders, axles, and brake lines are all common complaints from owners of this vehicle. These issues can lead to a decrease in the stability and handling of the vehicle, as well as increased wear and tear on other suspension components.
Electrical faults are also a common problem with the 2001 Hyundai Accent. These can range from minor issues, such as malfunctioning interior lights, to more serious problems, such as faulty sensors or wiring. These issues can affect the overall performance and reliability of the vehicle and may require costly repairs.
Another common problem with the 2001 Hyundai Accent is cooling and heating system troubles. These can be caused by a variety of factors, including a faulty thermostat, a blocked radiator, or a low coolant level. These issues can lead to a decrease in the overall performance and fuel efficiency of the vehicle, as well as increased wear and tear on other engine components.
Finally, engine faults are relatively rare in the 2001 Hyundai Accent, but they can still occur. Gearbox problems have been reported in some models, particularly those from 2000-2002. These issues can lead to a decrease in the overall performance and reliability of the vehicle and may require costly repairs.
In summary, the 2001 Hyundai Accent has several common problems, primarily related to its engine, suspension, and electrical systems. These issues can lead to a decrease in the overall performance and reliability of the vehicle, as well as increased wear and tear on other components. Regular maintenance and servicing can help to identify and address these issues before they become more serious, but some repairs may still be required.
What is the common problem of Hyundai Accent?
Problem: The ignition coil is known for failing on the Accent. If you have noticed that the engine management warning light has appeared on the dashboard and/or you are having problems with the engine misfiring (poor idling), then the ignition coil will be faulty.
What is the fuel consumption of a Hyundai Accent 2001?
Hyundai Accent 2001 Fuel consumption
The Hyundai Accent currently offers fuel consumption from 6.2 to 6.4L/100km.
How many miles does a 2001 Hyundai Accent last?
Although there's no way to predict an Accent's lifespan accurately, various data from reputable sources and owner feedback generally point to one thing: the Hyundai Accent can last 200,000 to 250,000 miles with proper care and maintenance. These numbers seem to coincide with owners' experiences with the car.
Is Hyundai Accent good or not?

- Components: ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING
- Summary: APPROXIMATELY 3000 MILES AFTER HAVING A 60,000 MILE SERVICE INVOLVING REPLACEMENT OF ALL BELTS, INCLUDING TIMING BELT USING HIGH QUALITY BELTS OF KNOWN QUALITY, A HIGH VOLTAGE ARCHING CONDITION IS OBSERVED ON THE FACE OF THE HARMONIC BALANCER (HB). ARCH IS APPROX. .250-.500 INCH IN LENGTH AND PROJECTS FROM THE OUTERMOST EDGE OF THE HB TOWARD THE CENTER OF SAME. USING A JUMPER CABLE CONNECTED TO THE NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL, ARCH CAN BE PULLED FROM THE OUTER EDGE OF HARMONIC BALANCER, BUT NO OTHER PULLEY SURFACE NOR BELT SURFACE. CONDITION IS INTERMITTENT AND FORCED REPRODUCTION HAS NOT BEEN POSSIBLE, BUT OCCURS WITH SUFFICIENT FREQUENCY TO PERMIT TROUBLESHOOTING. CONDITION HAS NOT BEEN PREVIOUSLY OBSERVED. AFTER EXTENSIVE DIAGNOSIS, IT APPEARS THE INSULATOR RUBBER BETWEEN MATING PARTS OF THE HB HAS DEGRADED RESULTING IN EXCESSIVE INTERNAL RESISTANCE WHICH RESULTS IN STATIC CHARGE GENERATED BY BELTS TO ESCAPE PULLEY INTERIOR, DISCHARGING OVER THE EXTERIOR SURFACE. UNDER THE RIGHT CONDITIONS, THIS COULD RESULT IN AN EXPLOSIVE EVENT SHOULD A COMBUSTION FUEL BE PRESENT; THEREFORE THIS SHOULD BE INVESTIGATED AS A SAFETY ISSUE. DEALER STATES NO KNOWLEDGE OF THIS BEING AN ISSUE. REPLACEMENT HB ON ORDER AND IS EXPECTED IN ABOUT ONE WEEK. *TR

2001 Hyundai Accent recalls
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 2 recalls for different components of the 2001 Hyundai Accent.
- Manufacturer: HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY
- Components: STRUCTURE:FRAME AND MEMBERS
- Summary: CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES FAIL TO COMPLY WITH THE REQUIREMENTS OF FEDERAL MOTOR VEHICLE SAFETY STANDARD NO. 201, "OCCUPANT PROTECTION IN INTERIOR IMPACT." DURING TESTING, THE 3-DOOR HATCHBACK EXCEEDED THE PERFORMANCE CRITERION IN THE STANDARD MIDWAY ALONG THE LENGTH OF THE WINDSHIELD SUPPORT PILLAR (A-PILLAR).
- Consequence: AN OCCUPANT'S HEAD THAT CONTACTS THE A-PILLAR DURING A CRASH COULD EXPERIENCE AN INCREASED RISK OF A HEAD INJURY AS A RESULT OF THIS CONDITION.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL NEW ENERGY MANAGEMENT BRACKETS TO SUPPORT THE A-PILLAR COVERS AND INCREASE THE ENERGY ABSORBING PERFORMANCE OF THE A-PILLAR IN THE RELEVANT AREA. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN OCTOBER 28, 2002. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.
- Manufacturer: HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY
- Components: VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL
- Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES EQUIPPED WITH 1.5 LITER OR 1.6 LITER ENGINES THAT WERE ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF ALASKA, COLORADO, IDAHO, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, KANSAS, MAINE, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, MONTANA, NORTH DAKOTA, NEBRASKA, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, SOUTH DAKOTA, VERMONT, WISCONSIN, AND WYOMING. WHILE DRIVING AT A STEADY THROTTLE OPENING FOR AN EXTENDED PERIOD OF TIME DURING EXTREMELY COLD AMBIENT TEMPERATURES (BELOW APPROXIMATELY -5 DEGREES FAHRENHEIT WITH HIGH HUMIDITY), MOISTURE IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER BLOWBY GASES CAN FREEZE AND BLOCK THE POSITIVE CRANKCASE VENTILATION (PCV) VALVE AND HOSE. IF THE PCV HOSE FREEZES, COMBUSTION CHAMBER GASES ARE FORCED THROUGH THE BREATHER HOSE INTO THE AIR INTAKE HOSE AND THEN INTO THE THROTTLE BODY.
- Consequence: MOISTURE IN THE COMBUSTION CHAMBER BLOWBY GASES MAY FREEZE INSIDE THE THROTTLE BODY BORE AND THROTTLE BODY IDLE SPEED CONTROL CIRCUIT RESULTING IN THE THROTTLE VALVE NOT CLOSING FULLY AND A HIGHER THAN NORMAL IDLE SPEED WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS RELEASED.
- Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A NEW, RELOCATED PCV HOSE AND WILL ADDITIONALLY INSTALL A HEATED THROTTLE BODY ON THE 2000-2001 ACCENTS EQUIPPED WITH 1.5 LITER ENGINES THAT WERE PRODUCED THROUGH JANUARY 31, 2001. Your Hyundai Accent is a great car! It has good handling and minimal road noise, which is impressive for a small 4-cylinder car. My 6-foot, 250-pound husband drove it comfortably for 4 years, and then we passed it on to our son in 2005. We've had very few repairs, only regular maintenance. Safety is a top priority for us, and the Accent has proven to be a reliable and safe car. It was even hit by a cement truck once, but sustained very little damage. In another incident, my 18-year-old son T-boned a Ford Explorer driven by a 15-year-old who ran a stop sign. Despite the impact being at 45 mph, the car withstood it incredibly well. The three people in the Accent only had minor scratches or bumps, while my son had some back injuries, but nothing that the Accent could have prevented. The car's dash, steering column, and glove box remained intact, which is a testament to its durability and safety features.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my car. I purchased it back in '02 from the original owner when it had 25k miles on it. Since then, I've put 45k miles on it and have only needed to do regular maintenance. It gets around 35mpg, making it a great car for commuting to work. While it is a manual car, that's actually why it was so affordable. So far, it has been incredibly dependable. I originally bought it to help out a friend and replace my old '89 Honda Civic, which had over 125k miles on it and was constantly in need of repairs. Now, I'm seriously considering purchasing a Hyundai or another dependable car for my next vehicle.

I'm glad to hear that this is your first Hyundai and that you're enjoying it! It's great to see how much the South Korean company has improved since the infamous Excel. This little coupe has good pickup and handles well in the rain, which is a big plus. While turns can be a bit tricky, especially at a roundabout, it's very fuel-efficient and has good acceleration on the highways when pushed the right way. It's important to keep in mind that it's a small car, so the 4 cyl engine may lack some horsepower, but overall it's a great choice. Thank you for sharing your experience with us!
-
Hello! Thank you for sharing your experience with the GS. It sounds like you've had a great time with it! It's wonderful to hear that the car is worth every penny and that oil changes are affordable. It's also great to know that the car is fun to drive and decently engineered. Even at 6'2

This is a fantastic little car that has been incredibly reliable and saved me a lot of money on gas over the years. It's also very easy to park and maneuver in traffic. With the hatchback, I've been able to transport large items like 8 ft 6x6 lumber, rototillers, and even a water softener. The interior is surprisingly spacious - my kids even call it the 'clown car'! I would definitely buy another one without hesitation.

I had a negative experience with my Hyundai vehicle, which I filed as a lemon. Despite facing challenges with the dealership's refusal to service my vehicle for a safety recall, I persevered and was able to resolve the issue. While this experience was frustrating, I remain confident in my ability to navigate similar situations in the future.

The Accent is a tough little car that can handle a lot, which is quite impressive. Although it may not offer much in terms of comfort, it is an affordable option that will get you where you need to go. I have had to use the warranty twice for issues with wheel bearings, an exhaust leak, and a leaky valve cover. Despite these problems, the car has kept running and never made me feel like it was going to break down. If you're looking to buy this car, I would recommend finding a used one at a low price. Just be cautious of the dealer, as they may try to sneak in additional costs. By the way, I was able to go from 0-60 in 15.2 seconds!

I'm glad to hear that you had a good experience with your car! It's unfortunate that you had to replace the transmission, but it sounds like it was worth it in the end. As long as you keep up with oil changes, it should continue to perform well. I appreciate your honesty about the slow acceleration, but it's great to hear that it handles well and performs in the winter. It's always a good sign when passengers are impressed with the car's performance. Thanks for sharing your experience!

It's not a bad car at all. It ran great until the transmission blew (or maybe it was the head gasket, we're not sure yet). I've only been in one accident with it, and the other person's license plate numbers are indented in the car, but that's all. It's a sturdy car, and I really want to fix it up.

I really liked this car, but unfortunately, I've had to do some repairs since I got it. The first thing that needed replacing was the transmission, which went out at 104,000 miles. Now, the converter is falling off, which causes a dragging sound when I go over 20 mph. Despite these issues, I still appreciate this car for its cute and easy-to-drive nature, but the repairs have been quite costly.
