2012 Hyundai Accent problems
The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.
The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.
In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

Common 2012 Hyundai Accent problems
The Hyundai Accent, a popular subcompact car, has been known to have some common problems across various model years. While the 2012 model year is not specifically mentioned as the worst, it does have its share of issues. Here are some of the most commonly reported problems based on the search results:
- Throttle Position Sensor (TPS) Failure: A failing TPS can cause a Hyundai Accent to speed up and slow down on its own, as reported by a user with a 2018 model. The TPS works with the vehicle's fuel management system to ensure the correct amount of fuel is delivered to the engine. If your Accent experiences this issue, it's recommended to have a mechanic inspect the TPS.
- Transmission Failure: Some 2004 Hyundai Accent owners have reported transmission failure, which can result in a jerky or unpredictable driving experience. This issue can be particularly concerning for those relying on their vehicle for daily transportation.
- Fuel Level Sensor Issues: Owners of various Accent models have reported issues with the fuel level sensor, which can give incorrect parameters and lead to problems with fuel consumption .
- Suspension Weaknesses: The Hyundai Accent's suspension has been reported to have weak points, such as wheel bearings that can wear out around 50,000-60,000 kilometers and stabilizer trusses that can last up to 80,000 kilometers . However, these issues can be addressed by replacing individual consumables, which can significantly reduce the cost of suspension repair.
When considering purchasing a Hyundai Accent, it's essential to be aware of these common problems. While not every vehicle will experience these issues, being informed can help you make a more informed decision and potentially avoid models with a higher likelihood of experiencing specific problems.

- Summary: Hyundai's current handling of recall 251 is inadequate, posing significant danger to drivers and passengers. Hyundai's remedy for Recall 251 replaces ABS fuse with a lower amperage fuse. While this may prevent fires caused by brake fluid leaks, it disables the ABS, introducing severe safety hazards: •Without ABS, the risk of wheel lockup during heavy braking increases, leading to skidding and loss of control. •ABS reduces stopping distances, especially on slippery surfaces. Disabling it may result in longer stopping distances, raising collision risks. •Drivers accustomed to ABS may not be prepared for how the vehicle behaves without it, potentially leading to improper braking. Federal regulations mandate that all U.S. cars and minivans manufactured in 2012 or later must have four-wheel ABS. By disabling the ABS, Hyundai circumvents this requirement, compromising safety. Despite attempts to communicate these safety issues, Hyundai has shown inadequate response. This suggests a disregard for customer safety and an effort to avoid liability and the cost of providing loaner vehicles or temporary replacements. Hyundai has not offered alternative transportation to affected drivers. Given these safety risks and Hyundai's inadequate response, we urgently request NHTSA to: 1.Ensure Recall 251 Remedy does not compromise safety by disabling the ABS. 2.Hold Hyundai accountable for maintaining four-wheel ABS in affected vehicles. 3.Require Hyundai to develop a safer recall remedy that: oFixes the Root Cause: Properly addresses the brake fluid leak to eliminate the fire risk without compromising the ABS. oMaintains ABS Functionality: Ensures the ABS system remains fully operational. oProvides Safety Support: Advises vehicle owners not to drive affected vehicles until the new remedy is implemented and provides loaner vehicles or temporary replacements. We urge the NHTSA to take immediate & decisive action to compel Hyundai to develop a safer, more effective solution.

- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,UNKNOWN OR OTHER
- Summary: I received this notice of a safety recall for my 2012 Hyundai accent in late October. Hyundai stated that a remedy would be available in late November. Now it's late December, and I've heard nothing from Hyundai. This safety recall sounds urgent and incredibly dangerous; I don't feel safe driving or parking my vehicle anywhere because according to them, it can catch fire at any moment. Despite this, Hyundai hasn't provided any more solutions other than parking my car outside, which doesn't solve the issue with driving it and frankly isn't any more safe. Hyundai isn't responding quickly enough at all for how urgent this issue is, even though several vehicle fires and thermal incidents have already occurred due to this very issue. It's ridiculous that they state the vehicle is safe to drive, yet they admit that the vehicle can catch fire while it's being driven. At this point, the government needs to step in and hold Hyundai accountable, for the sake of public safety. They need to be made to provide a solution that actually solves the problem, even if it isn't cheap to do so.

Because I'm in upstate NY, the temperature has plummeted and my car is having a harder time starting in the morning since I can't park it in our garage. I'm putting in a complaint due to the fact that the manufacturer has failed to remedy this safety recall in a timely manner.

This car was purchased by the company as a company car for me. The MPG was a significant factor in the purchase, and I am currently observing around 32 mpg, which is still impressive despite not reaching the 42 mpg that Hyundai claims. The car is surprisingly comfortable for a subcompact, and it comes packed with features that are impressive for its class. As someone who owns a full-size 07 GMC and 09 Maxima, I can attest to its comfort level. Additionally, the car drives very well and puts a smile on my face while driving. Recently, I took a trip from Raleigh, NC to Baltimore, MD, and I was comfortable throughout the entire journey, despite being a 6'2

I really like this car, but I was disappointed to find out that there was no spare tire. During a road trip over New Year's, my family and I hit some debris on the freeway which shredded the tire. Unfortunately, there was no spare tire to be found, which was frustrating. Instead, the car only came with a tire inflater, which was not enough to fix the problem. This was a safety hazard and I am concerned about it. I have already notified the dealer and Hyundai, and I am considering contacting a federal agency to express my concerns.

I purchased this car back in May 2012 with only 28km (not 28,000) on it. Since then, it has been a reliable commuter car for me, with around 175,000km on it. Here are some of the highlights: it has great fuel economy, averaging between 6.8-7.3L/100km, and I have only ever had to change the oil and replace the tires - I haven't even had to replace the brake pads yet! However, there are a few downsides to this car. Firstly, there is quite a bit of road noise, and the interior is a bit cheap and not super comfortable on long road trips. Additionally, the car is a bit underpowered, which is most noticeable when I have passengers, although it's not too bad when I'm driving alone. Finally, the 6-speed manual transmission is direct drive instead of overdrive, which means that doing 120kph on the highway has the RPM's at around 3,000. Overall, I would say that this car has been a great commuter car, but it may not be the best choice for a family car or for long road trips.
-
I had a 09 Sonata that was completely totaled, but thankfully I walked away without any injuries. I was really impressed with the safety features of the car and the overall quality, as well as the great gas mileage. In fact, I was so impressed that I decided to buy another Hyundai. At first, I thought the car was a bit small, but it has really grown on me and I find it fun to drive, especially with the 6-speed transmission.
-
I love this car! The quality, value, performance, styling, and efficiency are all first-rate for the class. It doesn't even hydroplane, which is a huge plus. It did take a while to break it in to get the best fuel efficiency - around 3,000 miles - but it was definitely worth it. I've been averaging anywhere from 35-45 m.p.g., which is fantastic. The shiftronic is also really fun to use. I've found that the highest m.p.g. is attainable at 60 m.p.h. on the highway with the cruise control on, and you can get up to 40 m.p.g. by slowly getting up to speed. I won't even post the highest numbers because it would make the Prius and competitors look bad! If you want the highest efficiency, make sure to leave eco-mode on. Even when driving it at its fastest, I couldn't get less than 28 m.p.g. Overall, this is the best car I've ever owned, and I would highly recommend it over any Fords I've owned.

I purchased my car back in 2011, one of the first models available. I was initially drawn to its sleek design both inside and out, which ultimately led me to make the purchase. However, after owning it for 2 and a half years, I must admit that I have grown to dislike this car. I have read previous reviews and would like to let others know that they are not alone in their complaints. Some of the issues I have experienced include poor rear visibility, which is especially problematic in inclement weather, and the LCD display, which has caused some frustration. Additionally, the cheap tires that come with the car are not worth the investment and I would strongly advise against purchasing them. One of the biggest issues I have encountered is the lack of a spare tire, which has proven to be a major inconvenience in emergency situations. Overall, while I appreciate the initial appeal of this car, I would caution others to consider these drawbacks before making a purchase.

I recently traded in my 2012 SE for a vehicle from a different manufacturer. Unfortunately, during my ownership, I experienced some issues with the car. The mechanics made some unkind comments about the car, which was not a pleasant experience. Additionally, while changing the cabin filter, I accidentally broke the glove box and the new filter. The mechanics also left the engine in a messy state with dirty oil slopped around and dirty handprints in the car. When I went to the next dealer, I was charged for 5 quarts of oil to receive bulk pricing, but they used 5-30W instead of the specified 5-20W. After complaining on a post-service survey, Hyundai Corp suggested that I do the oil change myself. These experiences were frustrating, but I hope that future customers have a better experience at the two OC Hyundai dealerships.

I've been driving this car for a year and a half now, covering 24000 km. I really appreciate the exterior and interior design. However, I was hoping for a better driving experience. The car makes a lot of noise when accelerating from a stop, and it feels like the engine is working too hard to move the car. I've given up on using the Eco driving mode because it makes the car even worse during shift transitions. When I first bought it, I thought I would save a lot on gas because of the 1.6L engine, but after driving a Mazda 3 with Skyactive, I was able to achieve similar fuel mileage. Additionally, the brakes felt too weak when I had 5 passengers, with only 2 of them being slightly above average. So far, I haven't had any mechanical issues.

I purchased my 2012 Hyundai Accent from a private seller with 53k miles and was initially impressed by its stylish exterior. Despite lacking features such as cruise control and Bluetooth, I was confident in my choice. However, I soon discovered that the car's low clearance made it vulnerable to damage from parking barriers, resulting in a costly repair bill of $2600. Additionally, the car's limited speed capabilities and high RPMs while driving proved to be an inconvenience, particularly for highway driving. In hindsight, I would not have chosen this car. While it is not the worst option available, it falls short of my expectations.

Hi there! Have you considered getting a spare tire? Also, I completely understand your frustration with the low bumper. It can be a pain to deal with and the repairs can be quite expensive.
