The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.
The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.
In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

It appears that all of the brake lines except a one foot section in the above location are coated with a hard rubber for corrosion protection. The one foot section in question however is raw metal which is "protected" on the bottom side by a removable plastic covering. The covering is clearly inadequate as the brake line rusted through, potentially causing a serious accident. I notice that Canada has some recalls on Hyandai vehicles other than the Accent for rusty brake lines.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain model year 2009-2011 Hyundai Accent vehicles manufactured March 1, 2009, to February 11, 2011. In the affected vehicles, the brake light switch may malfunction. A malfunctioning brake light switch may cause the brake lights to not illuminate when the brake pedal is depressed or may cause an inability to deactivate the cruise control by depressing the brake pedal. Additionally, a malfunctioning brake light switch may also prevent the shifter from being moved out of the PARK position.
- Consequence: Failure to illuminate the brake lights during braking or the inability to disengage the cruise control could increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: Hyundai will notify owners, and dealers will replace the brake switch, free of charge. The recall began on October 21, 2015. I recently purchased this car as my primary commute vehicle and I must say, I am loving it so far! I was able to get an amazing deal on it and it is built to last. The car is much better than my previous 2006 Civic, which felt like a tin can. The car is solid, drives well, and is quite peppy, especially since I have the manual and it is a gas-sipper. It is also quite cute and feels great to drive, even for someone as tall as me (6'1). I am looking forward to driving this car for over 100,000 miles! With gas prices on the rise, this car is a great investment. The warranty, cost, mileage, and build quality are all top-notch. Hyundai really hit the mark with this one!

Fun car to drive! I previously drove a Dodge Caravan, so driving this is like night and day. I like to drive small cars because they are easier for me to maneuver. The response is nice. I haven't filled my tank yet, but I'm down to 1/4 tank left after driving 280 miles. It's fairly inexpensive to insure because of the front and rear crumple safety zones. The seats are very comfortable.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my car. It gets 38 mpg and has plenty of power, even more than a Toyota! I paid $9900 for it and got a great deal. I also added a new radio for $170. The warranty is fantastic and the interior and exterior are both very nice. There's plenty of room inside and the design is great both inside and out. Overall, I'm extremely happy with my car!

This is my first NEW car and I'm 51 years old. I was so excited to finally get it! It cost me $8,900, which is a great price, and it comes with an amazing warranty. Plus, it's so much fun to drive!

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned your car's gas mileage isn't quite what the sticker promised. From what you've described, it sounds like you're getting around 30 to 32 mpg while driving at the speed limit of 55 to 65 mph on the highway. That's still pretty good, but I understand it can be frustrating when the sticker doesn't match up with reality. The 2010 model year was the last to use a 4-speed automatic transmission, which some drivers found to be clunky and not ideal for highway driving. Additionally, the lack of cruise control was a bit of a nightmare. However, the car itself is quite solid and handles bumps well. It's also proven to be reliable and inexpensive to own. As the first owner, I've put about 65k miles on it and it's still going strong. Even now, at nearly 100k miles, it's still impressively reliable and fuel-efficient. There have been some cosmetic issues, such as the fiberglass body component on the back of the car losing its clear coat, but overall the finish is still good. There have also been some minor mechanical issues, such as a rotted exhaust pipe and worn struts causing some noise in the front suspension. However, despite these issues, I remain impressed with the car's performance and reliability.

I have a GS with 2500 miles on it. I have the ABS/power package. It is a fun little car to drive, peppier than I thought it would be. I avg 31 mi/gal. The only problem is that the passenger air bag intermittently does not recognize the passenger. The dealership does not seem to be able to find the problem.

Good car, but safety is a concern. It can be sketchy to drive and there have been some recurring problems. Unfortunately, the brakes did not perform well during inspection. Overall, I would rate it 0.5/10.

The car has had a few issues such as the side mirror cover falling off after being bumped while shoveling snow, numerous dings in the plastic bumper and interior, and a cracked windshield at only 7,000 miles. Additionally, the seats do not move or fold down enough and the flat windows catch all kinds of crud constantly. The clearance is too low and the shield interferes with oil changes. The rear tail light assembly is placed in a vulnerable spot and has been hit before. Unfortunately, the charger will not work when the key is off, rendering it useless for charging equipment. However, it is safe to leave the car unlocked with the keys in it on the street as it is not likely to be stolen. Despite these issues, I will continue to use the car and take care of it to the best of my ability.
