The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.
The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.
In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

Hyundai has issued a recall for 2015 Accents manufactured between September 15, 2014, and February 10, 2015, due to the occupant detection system (ODS) being unable to detect the presence of a child restraint seat in the front passenger seat, resulting in front airbag failure. Affected models will receive an ODS software update, free of charge.

- Summary: My vehicle does the same thing as NHTSA ID Number: 11423521 and now I know not to bother taking it in for service for this issue. I was validated when I read that complaint as I have and continue to experience the same non-responsive issue when I accelerate from a complete stop ever since the vehicle was purchased 2020 February. This form asks for a specific date but there is no specific date. It happens every time I drive the vehicle. The issue can be erratic and I never know when I can or can’t depend on the vehicle’s acceleration and live in fear of causing a wreck or worse inuring / killing someone else. I get honked at all the time from impatient drivers insisting I pull out while I wait to make sure there is more than enough time to pull out and accelerate safely. Impatient drivers be hanged and pay attention to your own driving.

- Summary: I owned a 2017 Elantra and now I own a 2020 Accent. Both cars had the same on and off problem. When I am at an intersection and have to step on the gas to get thru the intersection quickly, when I step on the gas nothing happens. I have to pump the gas several times to get going. In the old days we called this vapor lock. This has happened numerous times but last week it almost got me killed. A car was coming from the lane to my right and I stepped on the gas and got about half way thru the intersection and the car just stopped and I was almost hit broad side. I called the service manager at my local Hyundai dealership in Freehold, NJ and ask if other people have had the same problem. He said yes but their is nothing they can do about it. It is something built into the Hyundai cars. This is unacceptable. There has to be something that can be done. When I took my 2017 Elantra into the dealership, the service manager said to leave the car, but if it does do it when they take it out for a test drive, there is nothing they can do.

The electric power steering is faulty and others should know about this major safety defect. Again What Exactly Happened was as I was turning the steering wheel became extremely difficult to turn then all of a sudden it turned extremely easy, "more than normal" and caused loss of control of the vehicle resulting in a head on collision that injured me and left me with fractured ribs and Sternum.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2020-2022 Accent, 2021-2022 Elantra, and 2021-2022 Elantra HEV vehicles. In the event of a crash, the front driver-side and/or passenger-side seat belt pretensioners may explode upon deployment.
- Consequence: An exploding seat belt pretensioner can project metal fragments into the vehicle, strike vehicle occupants, and result in injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will secure the seat belt pretensioner(s) with a cap, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 28, 2022. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 229. This recall expands and replaces NHTSA recall numbers 21V-796, 22V-069, 22V-218, and 22V-123 for Accent, Elantra, and Elantra HEV vehicles. All Accent, Elantra, and Elantra HEV vehicles already repaired under the previous recalls will need to have the new remedy completed.

- Summary: Hyundai Motor America (Hyundai) is recalling certain 2017-2018 Sonata, 2016-2018 Sonata Hybrid, 2018-2020 Accent, and 2016-2017 Azera vehicles. The trunk latch may become damaged, preventing the opening of the trunk from the inside. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 401, "Internal Trunk Release."
- Consequence: A person inside the trunk compartment may become trapped, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: Dealers will replace the trunk latch base, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed December 4, 2021. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460. Hyundai's number for this recall is 208.

In Canada, we were able to get the 5-door 2020 Hyundai Accent Ultimate. It comes with all the options you'd want in an inexpensive, yet sporty, sub-compact car. Although it has less power than the Elantra GT N-Line, it actually has a nicer design than the 5-door 2020 Elantra GT.

I purchased my wife's 2018 Accent SE in 2019. Although it was a rental car with 16,000 miles, it looked very clean and was only $12,200 out the door. We have now driven 45,000 miles without any issues and are about to pay it off. This little car handles, accelerates, and brakes better than any other subcompact at this price point. On trips, I have gotten as much as 43 mpg with the Accent. When I was looking for a car for my business, I considered many different vehicles, but the Accent won the decision again. The 2021 Accent SE was only $16,150 out the door, and you cannot find a new car this good for that price anywhere else.

Unfortunately, I had to surrender it back to my financial credit union because insurance companies were quoting me over $750 a month due to the anti-theft system. It sounds like you had a mixed experience with your car. While it had great gas mileage, it seems like the manual transmission was difficult to handle and lacked some important safety features. It's understandable that you chose the 6sp for its unique features, but it seems like it may not have been the best fit for your needs. I sold my 2013 Toyota Corolla to my son to replace his 1999 Ford Escort and bought a 2018 Hyundai Accent for myself. The Accent seemed like a great car during my test drives, with a six-speed manual transmission and a 1.6-liter engine that was easy to get used to. It shifted smoothly and had sufficient power, and I was pleased to see that the average MPG was 47 for my combination of highway and city driving. Although the ride is fairly firm, it's quieter at highway speeds than the Corolla. Unfortunately, at around 140 miles, the car started running rough and the Check Engine light came on. It felt like the car was running on two cylinders, but the dealer replaced the spark plugs and the car has been running smoothly ever since. I'm happy to report that at 21000 miles, the car is still running well and I'm getting 43-44 MPG. I'm hoping that the long-term reliability will be good, but only time will tell.Hi there!
