The Hyundai Accent (Korean: 현대 엑센트), or Hyundai Verna (현대 베르나) is a subcompact car produced by Hyundai. In Australia, the first generation models carried over the Hyundai Excel name used by the Accent's predecessor. The Accent was replaced in 2000 by the Hyundai Verna in South Korea, although most international markets, including the US, retained the "Accent" name. The "Accent" name is an abbreviation of Advanced Compact Car of Epoch-making New Technology.

The Accent is produced for the Chinese market by Beijing Hyundai Co., a joint venture with Beijing Automotive Industry Corp. For the Russian market it was assembled by the TagAZ plant in Taganrog until 2011, and since 2011 it was assembled by the HMMR plant in Saint Petersburg and sold under the new name Hyundai Solaris. In Mexico, the Accent was marketed until 2014 by Chrysler as the Dodge Attitude, previously known as the Verna by Dodge. In Venezuela, Chrysler marketed these models as the Dodge Brisa until 2006. The Brisa was assembled by Mitsubishi Motors at its plant in Barcelona, Venezuela. Since 2002, the Accent had been the longest-running small family car sold in North America. In Puerto Rico, the second and third generations were sold as the Hyundai Brio.

In 2008, Hyundai Accent was named the most dependable subcompact car by J.D. Power and Associates.

Common 1995 Hyundai Accent problems

The 1995 Hyundai Accent is a subcompact car that has been popular among drivers due to its affordability and fuel efficiency. However, like any vehicle, it is not without its issues. Based on owner complaints, the most common problems with the 1995 Hyundai Accent include body and paint issues, minor engine problems, and transmission failures.

Body and paint issues are prevalent among 1995 Hyundai Accent owners. These issues include rusting, chipping paint, and body panels that don't fit correctly. Rust is a common problem in older vehicles, especially in areas where salt is used on the roads during the winter months. Chipping paint can occur due to wear and tear, and body panels not fitting correctly can be a result of poor manufacturing or accident damage.

Minor engine problems are also common among 1995 Hyundai Accent owners. These issues include engine stalling, rough idling, and difficulty starting. Engine stalling can be caused by a variety of factors, including faulty ignition coils, clogged fuel injectors, or a malfunctioning crankshaft position sensor. Rough idling can be caused by a dirty or faulty throttle body, while difficulty starting can be caused by a weak battery or a malfunctioning starter motor.

Transmission failures are a significant issue for 1995 Hyundai Accent owners. These failures can result in the vehicle being unable to move or being stuck in a single gear. Transmission failures can be caused by a variety of factors, including low transmission fluid levels, worn or damaged clutch components, or a faulty torque converter. Transmission failures can be costly to repair, and in some cases, the entire transmission may need to be replaced.

In summary, the 1995 Hyundai Accent is not without its issues, including body and paint problems, minor engine issues, and transmission failures. These issues can be costly to repair and can impact the vehicle's overall reliability. If you are considering purchasing a 1995 Hyundai Accent, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and to budget accordingly for potential repairs.

1995 Hyundai Accent recalls

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has issued 5 recalls for different components of the 1995 Hyundai Accent.

2002-12-20
  • Manufacturer: HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY
  • Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM
  • Summary: ON CERTAIN PASSENGER VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD IN OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE STATES OF CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, WISCONSIN, AND THE DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA. DURING WINTER MONTHS, LARGE QUANTITIES OF SALT ARE USED TO DE-ICE ROADS. THIS ROAD SALT COULD RESULT IN CORROSION OF THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS.
  • Consequence: SEVERE CORROSION COULD RESULT IN PERFORATION AND POTENTIAL FRACTURE OF THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARM. IF THIS FRACTURE OCCURS, THE TIRE AND WHEEL ASSEMBLY REMAINS CONNECTED TO THE CHASSIS THROUGH THE FORWARD LOWER CONTROL ARM PIVOT POINT AND THROUGH THE STRUT ATTACHMENT TO THE UPPER WHEELHOUSE. REDUCED CONTROL OF THE FRONT WHEEL LOCATION INCREASES THE RISK OF A CRASH.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS AND, IF NECESSARY, WILL REPLACE ONE OR BOTH FRONT LOWER CONTROL ARMS IF STRUCTURAL DAMAGE HAS OCCURRED. OWNER NOTIFICATION WILL BEGIN ON JUNE 10, 2003. OWNERS WHO TAKE THEIR VEHICLES TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER ON AN AGREED UPON SERVICE DATE AND DO NOT RECEIVE THE FREE REMEDY WITHIN A REASONABLE TIME SHOULD CONTACT HYUNDAI AT 1-800-633-5151.
1998-10-06
  • Manufacturer: HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA
  • Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:SPRINGS:COIL SPRINGS
  • Summary: VEHICLE DESCRIPTION: PASSENGER VEHICLES ORIGINALLY SOLD OR CURRENTLY REGISTERED IN THE FOLLOWING "SALT BELT" STATES: CONNECTICUT, DELAWARE, ILLINOIS, INDIANA, IOWA, MAINE, MARYLAND, MASSACHUSETTS, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEW HAMPSHIRE, NEW JERSEY, NEW YORK, OHIO, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, VERMONT, WEST VIRGINIA, AND WISCONSIN. DURING WINTER MONTHS, THE ROAD SALT USED TO DE-ICE ROADS CAN RESULT IN CORROSION THAT CAUSES PITS TO FORM ON THE LOWER COIL OF THE FRONT SPRINGS ALLOWING CRACKS TO DEVELOP. THIS CAN RESULT IN BREAKAGE OF THE LOWER SPRING COIL.
  • Consequence: IF THE FRONT COIL SPRING BREAKS, IT CAN BECOME DISPLACED FROM ITS SEATED POSITION, AND CAN CONTACT A TIRE. TIRE DAMAGE CAN RESULT.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSTALL A SPRING GUIDE TO PREVENT A BROKEN COIL SPRING FROM CONTACTING AND DAMAGING A TIRE.
1996-07-01
  • Manufacturer: HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA
  • Components: SUSPENSION:FRONT:CONTROL ARM:LOWER ARM
  • Summary: THROUGH CONTACT WITH ROAD HAZARDS AND CURBS, THE LOWER CONTROL ARM ASSEMBLY CAN SHIFT FROM ITS ORIGINAL POSITION.
  • Consequence: THE SHIFTED LOCATION CAN RESULT IN IMPROPER WHEEL ALIGNMENT AND INCREASED STEERING EFFORT INCREASING THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REINFORCE THE LOWER CONTROL ARM MEMBER ASSEMBLY ATTACHMENT TO THE UNDERBODY.
1995-03-03
  • Manufacturer: HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA
  • Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM:WIRING:INTERIOR/UNDER DASH
  • Summary: THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE WIRING HARNESS UNDER THE INSTRUMENT PANEL CAN BE CONTACTED BY THE CLUTCH PEDAL ASSEMBLY WHEN THE CLUTCH IS ENGAGED.
  • Consequence: CONTACT ABRADES AND DAMAGES THE INSULATION ONTHE HARNESS CAUSING A FUSE TO BLOW AND THE ENGINE TO STALL. UNEXPECTED ENGINE STALLING INCREASES THE POTENTIAL FOR A VEHICLE ACCIDENT.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL INSPECT THE ENGINE CONTROL WIRING HARNESS TO DETERMINE IF IT HAS BEEN DAMAGED AND REPOSITION THE HARNESS SO THAT CONTACT WITH THE CLUTCH PEDAL LEVER WILL NOT OCCUR.
1995-01-20
  • Manufacturer: HYUNDAI MOTOR AMERICA
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING:HEADLIGHTS:HIGH/LOW BEAM DIMMER SWITCH
  • Summary: A PLASTIC SLIDER PIECE WITHIN THE HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY DOES NOT FULLY RETRACT WHEN THE HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH IS MOVED FROM LOW BEAM TO HIGH BEAM POSITION. THE LOW BEAM LAMPS GO OUT AS INTENDED, BUT THE HIGH BEAM LAMPS DO NOT COME ON.
  • Consequence: THIS CONDITION WILL RESULT IN INADEQUATE LIGHTING CAUSING A VISIBILITY PROBLEM FOR THE DRIVER AND OTHER ONCOMING MOTORISTS AND AN ACCIDENT CAN OCCUR.
  • Remedy: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE HEADLAMP DIMMER SWITCH ASSEMBLY.

Negative 1995 Hyundai Accent car reviews

  1. Paolo Kertzmann 2024-09-10

Be careful not to have a blowout on the front tire as it can cause damage to your front bumper, fender, and wiring harness. This can be very dangerous, especially since the wiring harness is located so close to the front tire. On the bright side, this car is great on gas mileage, achieving up to 40 mpg on the highway and an average of 28 mpg in the city. However, personally, I would not buy this car again.

  2. Rex Ruecker 2024-05-06

This is my first car and it has proven to be a good one. I love how it takes corners tightly and easily fits into cramped spaces. When I first purchased it, it ran really slow and had a hard time going from first to second, but I later found out that I needed new spark plugs and a new starter (which were cheap!). Now, with regular maintenance, she runs great!

Positive 1995 Hyundai Accent car reviews

  1. Robert Kunde 2024-06-12

This is my second Hyundai, and I'm so glad I chose it. I've been driving it for seven years now, and it still feels brand new. I haven't had any unpleasant surprises, just regular maintenance. The ride is a bit bumpy, which gives the impression of going faster than you actually are (which is great for people like me who tend to drive too fast), but other than that, it's a joy to drive. Plus, it has a really cute rear end!

  2. Loyal Braun 2024-02-27

The car has great mileage and has been reliable overall. I did have to replace the alternator around 130,000 miles and the clutch and transmission around 96,000 miles, but fortunately it wasn't too expensive. I did have an issue with my window getting stuck, but I was able to get it fixed for only $25 at a local glass store. Other than that, I haven't had any major problems with the car. I paid $9475 for it and have only put about $1000 into it, not including tires and brakes. I've only had to replace the brakes once and the car now has 147000 miles on it.

  3. Rod Mosciski 2024-02-18

I bought my 95 Accent as my first car with 100,000 miles already on it. It only cost me a grand, and over the span of 2 years, I probably put about $500 into it. Despite adding almost 60,000 miles, I only had one problem - a screw bent in the clutch. I trusted the car with my life, and now that I have a 2004 Hyundai Accent, I still find myself comparing it to my old car. I highly recommend this car to anyone who wants an affordable way to get around. The only downside was the crank windows, but a little elbow grease was all it took to handle that. By the end of the 2 years, I was feeling pretty buff!

  4. Winfield Miller 2024-01-20

This is a great car! It has surprising performance, is very sure-footed, and has ample power. However, it can be a bit uncomfortable if you plan on taking it out of town.
