The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

I recently switched from a Tacoma (which I still love) to a full-size truck and I couldn't be happier with my decision. The 2023 Silverado 1500 Crew Cab LTZ with the new 3.0L Duramax Diesel engine is absolutely amazing, especially with the interior refresh. The fuel mileage is also impressive for a diesel. I was able to get an incredible deal on this truck, so I took advantage of it. I had originally ordered an RST model from another dealer, but this LTZ truck ended up being only $600 more with a 72m/100k warranty than the RST build cost. Please note that the page wouldn't allow me to choose this model, so it shows the 5.3L 8cyl engine.

I have owned three F150's over the years and was in the market for a new truck. I wanted a truck with big V8 power (my last F150 had the 6.2L motor), reasonable gas mileage, and the ability to tow a 7x14 V nose enclosed trailer long distances in comfort. Although I don't do off-road stuff, I do hit some dirt roads every so often. I didn't want to move to an F250 or any 3/4 ton. I looked first for a truck with a 6.2L engine, and the only one I found with that option was the Silverado. Well, I started looking and found that not only was it basically the same motor as in the C7, but it came with an 8-speed transmission. The Silverado comes in many different flavors, and the engine choice limited me to a High Country or an LTZ Z71. I found two trucks about 70 miles away from where I live, test drove one, and bought it the same day. I got what I needed (power, comfort, ruggedness). I also got what I won't use (crazy technology like built-in Wi-Fi, lane assist, front assist, rear assist, etc.), and hopefully, it will be as reliable a truck as my Fords have been. I just couldn't do a twin-turbo V6 in a truck, so hello Chevy and so long Ford! Update at 6000 miles: So, we put this truck through some pretty intense miles. We hooked up a 7x14 enclosed motorcycle trailer with two baggers and towed it from VA to CO and then to WY. We went up steep mountains and through torrential rains. We experienced the joy of bad roads in various sections of the 5000-mile vacation over two weeks. We love this truck. Gas mileage went to hell, of course, towing 5000 pounds+, but it was stable, able to go up steep inclines, handle wet roads, and a couple of emergency maneuvers without any problems. It didn't overheat running straight for 16 hours in sometimes 102-degree heat. Update at 10,000 miles: No issues still. I'm still using the truck primarily for long-distance trips and hauling stuff around town. Gas mileage varies between 17-21.7 depending on my heavy foot. With the big motor, it's fun to hammer it every now and then. They say this particular setup can do 0-60 in 5.9 seconds? I can hardly believe it! That's crazy for a 6000 lb rig. But hey, I'm not complaining! LOL!

I purchased my truck in the summer of '09 with 22K miles on the odometer. Currently, it has 86K miles. Unfortunately, last summer at 65K miles, I experienced some transmission issues. The only indicator was that at highway speeds, the RPM's would jump up about 1500 and back down sporadically for about a week before it locked up on me on the service road of a busy freeway. I had to drive it in reverse half a mile to a gas station to park it. Additionally, there have been some electrical issues with the driver's side lock not locking when I press the remote and window switches not working. I'm also on my 2nd battery already, which is a bit puzzling. Lastly, the Stabilitrak disengages at times. I'm considering selling it, but I'm not sure yet.

The best decision I made was to trade it in after 8 visits to the dealership. It all started with a rod and two lifters going out, followed by the alternator. After the alternator (which I think fried some electronics), the stereo and dash display had to be replaced and reprogrammed more times than I can count. If you're considering buying one, I recommend finding a good service writer because you'll be drinking buddies in about 4 months time. Unfortunately, I would give the truck 0 stars if possible.

As a result, the company went bankrupt in 2009. If you're looking for a reliable manufacturer that stands behind their products, I would recommend considering other options. I really enjoyed the navigation and voice activated system on my 2019 model. However, since switching to Google, I have experienced some issues. Unfortunately, about 50% of the time when I try to call out, it prompts me to enter a string. Additionally, the navigation system now requires a subscription, whereas on the old system, you could simply turn on Android Auto and display your navigation if you didn't have it. Unfortunately, you can't turn on maps while Android Auto is on. The old system was much more reliable, especially in the mountains. The new system looks great, but it's not as dependable and costs a hefty 80K. It can be quite frustrating at times and has made me consider selling the truck.

The lifter of my 2021 loaded Silverado LTZ broke at 14200 miles while my wife was driving with our three grandkids in the back seat. Although my previous Chevys were bulletproof, this incident occurred on the interstate and the truck basically shut down with warning lights everywhere. The truck is currently in the shop with the engine torn down. However, I am confident that GM will fix the affected side and resolve the issue promptly.
