The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

I purchased this truck from the local dealer in town. My previous truck, an '87 Ford Ranger, was worn out, unreliable, and had 139,000 miles on it. After discovering the 2000 Chevy 1500 Silverado LS regular cab online, I decided to check it out. I was amazed by its incredible condition, despite having 71,000 miles on it. This truck is built to last and is much more rugged than my old Ford Ranger. It also has the optional 4.8L V8 engine, which gives it a lot more power on the road.

I have really enjoyed my many trips to the gas stations in my area, even though this vehicle is quite thirsty. While it is heavy and can be difficult to park, it is still a lot of fun to drive and has no problem towing my trailer, especially since I added a blower to the motor, which added 150 horsepower. Maintenance is straightforward and the dealer has been excellent with my normal service routine. The sound system is great and it's a breeze to drive down the highway with minimal cabin noise. Overall, I would rate this vehicle an 8, with the only downside being the turning radius. However, I couldn't be happier with its reliability!

So far I have no complaints. You'll be happy to know that it is a very comfortable ride, and I get 16-17 mpg city and 20 mpg highway with the 4.8 engine. I even pull a 30ft camper with no problems at all. Overall, I think the Silverado is an excellent truck. However, I must say that my only complaint would be the cheap paint GM uses.

I bought a highly optioned High Country with a 6.2 engine and have had zero problems in 38K miles. While I love my truck, I do have a few suggestions for improvement. The manual steering column could benefit from power tilt and telescope with more range, and I miss having adjustable pedals and lighter interior colors. I believe interior upgrades are overdue and would love to see Chevy offer interiors that are on par with Ford and Ram.

I have owned several cars from different manufacturers, including 6 Japanese, 5 American, and 2 German cars. Unfortunately, my experience with GM has been the worst. Despite taking excellent care of my GM truck, it has had numerous issues, including a failed transmission, multiple water pump failures, poor brake performance, frequent wheel bearing replacements, and extensive rust. Despite my disappointment, I have always been a responsible owner, changing the oil every 1500 miles and never towing or off-roading. In my opinion, GM has not taken responsibility for these issues, which is why I will never purchase another GM product again.

Hello! We recently purchased a 2006 Chevrolet truck and while we appreciate some of its features, we were a bit disappointed with a few things. We noticed that the truck is worth less than our 2005 Silverado 4dr, and we paid more money for less value on the same truck model of 2005. Additionally, Chevrolet changed the hood, chrome on grill and painted the bumper for $10,000 more. We were also hoping for more standard features and a better interior design. However, we are happy to report that the truck gets great gas mileage, averaging 19.9 to 21.0 miles per gallon on the road and 14.9 to 16.8 around town. We are considering other brands for our next purchase, but we appreciate the money we saved this year and look forward to trading this vehicle in. Thank you for your time, Chevrolet!

In the past month, I have noticed a clunking noise coming from underneath my truck when I slow down. Based on my knowledge, it sounds like the driveshaft or u-joint is the source of the noise. Despite taking it to the dealer for a 4-day inspection, they informed me that everything is normal. However, I am still concerned about the rattling noises in the cab. It is disappointing to hear that a truck I purchased new with only 11,000 miles on it is experiencing these issues, and the dealer's response has not been helpful. I believe that this is not normal and I would appreciate further investigation into the matter.

I love the truck! However, there have been some drivetrain issues, including three recalls, a squealing parking brake (which is the worst), two rear differentials, and three complete clutches - all within the first four months. Despite these problems, I still think it's a good truck overall.
