The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

I've had many vehicles, but this is the first new vehicle. This one has the chrome package, 20" chrome rims, chrome trim, mirrors, and door handles. I love the looks of it. It now has 4300 miles and am averaging around 17 MPG. The instruments are easy to read, and the controls are easy to reach. The seats are comfortable, the handling is responsive and the ride is pretty smooth. It took a little getting used to the cylinder deactivation as it seemed a little sluggish when accelerating from a stop. However, when you need power, its there. I occasionally pull an 18 foot fiberglass boat and hardly know its behind. All in all a very nice truck, and the rebates made it hard to pass up.

I rented this car for my family vacation in and around Yellowstone Park this summer. It was really comfortable to drive. My iPhone connected with no issues and the kids loved the view from the back. These new trucks drive more like luxury SUVs with all the bells and whistles.

I confidently passed the 1k mark and everything is going well, except for the Bluetooth links to my iPhone which only work about 80% of the time. Despite visiting the dealer and having it reflashed, the problem still persists. However, I have learned to live with it. I absolutely love my regular cab 2014 Silverado WT2 4.3 for its more compact size, which makes parking at the local Publix a breeze. When my truck was in the shop for the Bluetooth problem, I was provided a 2014 5.3 extended cab. However, I found that the 4.3 is actually peppier and slightly more economical, making it a better option for everyday use. Although I was taken aback by the rude treatment I received from the dealer service writer, I remain confident in my decision to choose the 4.3. I was not treated with the loyalty that I am accustomed to at the VW dealership.

Congratulations on your new pickup! It's great to hear that you've been a GM fan for 10 years now, especially after switching from Ford. Just like your previous Tahoe, this truck is well-built and looks great both inside and out. While the ride may be a bit more truck-like than your Tahoe, the engine and road noise are fantastic, with the exception of some tire noise which is likely due to the dueler tires that came with the truck. It's also impressive that you're already seeing better gas mileage than your 03 Tahoe, according to the computer. Enjoy your new ride!

After 40,000 miles... Here are some reasons why I prefer my Ford over my 2021 Chevy Silverado:1) The Android Auto connection can be unreliable. My phone gets deleted at random about once a month, which can be frustrating.1B.) The head unit's ability to recognize voice commands is not the best.2) During installation, the dealership had to drill a hole in the wheel well to get one of the trim pieces to secure in, which resulted in a notable rattling when driving at speeds above 55mph.3) The remote start can be unreliable at times.4) The adaptive cruise cannot be fully turned off.5) If you press down on cruise control more than once, the truck hits the brakes, which can be inconvenient.6) The mirrors can lock up when opening/folding them.7) The interior is not the most luxurious, and some parts don't line up perfectly.7A): A dog jumped on the seat and tore a small part of it. Nothing special.7B.) A piece of cardboard/wood trim tore part of the dashboard by bumping into it.7C) A few spots don't line up.8.) Resting your arm on the door with your hand on the wheel can be uncomfortable, as the door ledge can cause your arm to go numb after a few minutes.9) The auto up/down for the windows can be touchy.10) The maintenance schedule is more demanding than some other trucks.11) The interior lights auto-dim during the day, which can be inconvenient when going under darker overpasses.12) The oil (AC Delco 0w20 DexosD) can be difficult to find outside of a dealership or one specific shop.13) Some people have reported difficulty hearing me when using the truck's microphone.14) The windshield wipers that came with it lasted only 6 months.15) OnStar/SiriusXM cannot be removed if you don't want them. Overall, I still enjoy driving my Chevy Silverado, but these are some things to consider before making a purchase.Every time you start the vehicle, it may say that it can't connect. Unfortunately, it is not possible to disable that app.

I leased this truck brand new in June of 2017 and have put 16k miles on it since then (writing this review in Nov 2017). Unfortunately, I have had to take it to the shop 3 times since purchase due to various issues. The problems I have experienced include transmission slam shifting on the downshift, front and rear universal joints fracturing and throwing grease, and the cab vibrating on long hauls at highway speeds. Additionally, the frame is not painted but just sprayed with a tacky coat of remediation spray that can be wiped off with no effort, revealing bare steel. The suspension is quite soft and the stock Dunlop tires cannot hold the road in wet conditions and offer very little handling performance. The seats are also quite uncomfortable for long periods of time. Despite these issues, I have found that this is not an isolated issue with the transmission (6L80E). However, I am hopeful that GM will be able to properly fix it soon.The Chevy truck has a couple of great features that I really appreciate, such as the impressive gas mileage and the reliable 4x4 system. However, I have to say that overall, the quality of the truck falls short compared to what other manufacturers are offering in a half-ton pickup. I wouldn't necessarily recommend it to others.

I bought this truck with 130000 miles and it has been a reliable companion ever since. Even after driving it for another 74000 miles, it still runs smoothly without any leaks. I especially enjoy the driving experience after installing some upgrades like super chips, heavier front torsion bars, an additional full leaf to the rear springs, Bilstiens, and a locking rear end. However, there have been some issues with the throttle body, fuel tank sender, 4wd switch, EVAP vent valve, ABS unit, and fan blower switch, as well as the driver's side window regulator. Unfortunately, the rocker panels have also suffered from rot due to a design flaw. Although the dealers have not disclosed how many defective parts have been replaced, I believe that more recalls should have been issued. Despite these setbacks, I still appreciate my truck and the memories we've shared.

I highly recommend my local car shop for their fair and honest service. They always do good work and never overcharge. Here's the story of my Chevy pickup's repairs, as told by my mechanic. At 90k miles, the gas gauge and warning lights stopped working, which my mechanic said was typical for these trucks and fixed for $400. At 95k miles, all 4 upper wheel-wells had rusted through, and my mechanic estimated the repair cost at $4,000. He explained that even if they grind down to bare metal, it probably won't stop the rust. The automatic transmission needed a full rebuild at 95k miles, which my mechanic said was not uncommon and cost $2,600. At 100k miles, the rear brakes needed repair, including the rotors, which my mechanic said was average for these trucks and cost $800. At 140k miles, the rack & pinion steering needed repair, which my mechanic said was unusual but not unheard of, and cost $370. Finally, at 160k miles, all the brake lines needed to be replaced, which my mechanic said was a common repair at that mileage and cost $1,300 mostly in labor (since they had to remove the box, etc.). Despite my pickup being the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned, I always feel confident taking it to my local car shop for repairs.

I have some concerns about the acceleration of this truck. It seems to take a full second to shift from first to second gear, which can be frustrating when I need to accelerate quickly. I often end up revving the engine too high, which could cause damage in the long run. Additionally, I was disappointed that the dealership tried to overcharge me for the crew cab option. While I would have preferred that option, it wasn't worth the extra $7K. Despite these issues, I find the truck to be very comfortable to drive. However, I do think that the dashboard displays could be more user-friendly. It takes too many clicks to find what you're looking for, which can be confusing. I was also surprised that there is no GPS navigation available, given the other high-tech features of the truck. Overall, I have some reservations about buying another Silverado, but I would consider it if these issues were addressed.
