The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

I recently traded in my 2012 Ford F150 for a Silverado 1500 crew cab in January, and I couldn't be happier. The V-6 engine is more than enough for all my needs, including towing my ATV trailer and aluminum runabout boat. The 4x4 mode works smoothly, and the OnStar navigation, satellite radio system, and dual-zone climate control are all excellent features. Unlike the Ford 3.5 liter V-6, which relies on high RPM for its power, the bigger block 4.6 of the Chevy has way more low RPM torque and power. This means you don't have the high RPM screaming of the Ford, nor do you have the incessant up and down and upshifting of the Ford's six-speed transmission. The Chevy gives you the sensation that you are driving a bigger, heavier truck. I am very particular about gas mileage, and I can safely say that the heavier Chevy, with the bigger block V-6, gives me minimally about 1.5 more MPG for local driving and 2 to 2.5 more MPG for trip driving! I highly recommend the Silverado Crew Cab 1500 4x4 with the V-6 and the base level trailering package! However, there are two things that annoy me. The headlights are the worst I have ever had on any vehicle I have ever owned. The satellite and FM radio are excellent, but the AM radio reception is very poor.

The fit and finish are excellent, and the integration of vehicle systems is well done. I'm glad to hear that the low gas light and 'Low Fuel' display on the dash, as well as the car Nav system, were helpful in finding nearby gas stations. The auto-switching between v4 and v8 is seamless and helps with mileage. Additionally, the leather interior is beautiful. This is a fantastic new truck! I recently traded in my 07 Silverado for this one and I couldn't be happier with my decision. I decided to broaden my search and test drove both Fords and Chevys. While the F-150 was nice, it took the entire test drive for the a/c to cool down, which is a big no-no for me being from South Florida. However, the Silverado was love at first drive! It has a nice, tight ride and handling, and is extremely quiet for an 'offroad' set up with the Z71 package. The biggest change for me has been the mileage. On the very first tank, I got 17.5 mpg with real-world driving in the city and on the highway. The best I've gotten so far is 21.8 mpg! Needless to say, I'm a Chevy fan for life!

I purchased my truck three years ago with 64k miles on it. It had a slight tapping noise that would come and go in spurts of two or three taps. I took it to a GM dealer who informed me that it was injector noise. I have always been diligent with maintenance, changing the oil every 5k miles and servicing the vehicle before the change oil light came on (around 9k miles). Unfortunately, at 94k miles, I had to replace the displacement on demand lifters, a known issue with GM vehicles that required tearing the engine down to the block. Additionally, the alternator went out at around 100k miles and I experienced issues with spark plugs cracking the porcelain every 2k miles. The truck also consumes oil, which is another known issue that GM has yet to address. While the truck may look nice and be comfortable to drive, it has proven to be unreliable. As a die-hard Chevy fan, this experience has shaken my faith in new GM vehicles and any vehicle with DOD.

Hello, I took delivery of my Chevy truck at the end of February 2014. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with it vibrating while on the highway. I have brought this up to the service manager multiple times, and although he initially dismissed my concerns, he eventually worked on it. The dealership even called in an engineer from Chevy to help, but they ended up replacing the rear axle. However, the problem persists and the district manager of Chevy has refused to work on it any further. I am quite disappointed with the situation. I have been asked to update my review, and I must say that my truck has only 13,000 miles on it because it has been back and forth from the dealership for recalls and other problems. I own several trucks and cars, and this Chevy has the most frame rot I have ever seen on a vehicle of its age. After the last recall service, the service manager admitted that every Chevy truck he has used vibrates on the highway, and Chevy has no answer. Additionally, when the truck is in auto 4x4 and placed in park, it has a tendency to roll a few feet before stopping. I was told that this is common, but there is a fix available if you can find a dealer willing to do the job. Before buying a Chevy truck, I recommend doing a Google search for problems with their vehicles. Thank you for reading.

My experience with German made diesel vehicles has been consistently spectacular. However, my recent purchase of a Chevrolet with the 6 Cyl has been a major disappointment. Since its purchase in Nov 2019, the vehicle has been in the shop about 4 times for multiple issues, including check engine light, severe clunking, and oil leakage. These issues have been a source of frustration and inconvenience.

Hi there! I noticed that you mentioned experiencing some vibrations at freeway speeds. That doesn't sound too pleasant! Have you considered the possibility that it could be the fuel management system causing this issue? I've read about others having similar problems, but I'm not sure if they've explored this avenue. If it was a tire or drive shaft problem, I would expect the vibrations to occur all the time at highway speeds, but it seems to only happen when the engine goes into V-4 mode. I bought my 03 2wd extended 4.8l ls in 07, so it's 15 years old now and has over 190,000 miles. Despite its age, it still runs great with no problems with the engine. The ride is pretty good, but unfortunately, these GMs are known for electrical problems. The instrument panel cluster has been repaired twice, but it still won't act right and drains the battery if I let the truck sit for a day or longer. It's a pain in the neck, so I just disconnect the whole thing and use my phone for my mph. I've had the water pump replaced, and it's rusting on the rocker panels. The engine does cut off on me mostly when I'm slowing down and making a turn. The wheel caps are a pain too. They're hard to put on, and they get loose after some time. I've lost 3-4 of these so far. I've replaced both power window motors, but all in all, it hasn't failed me hard, and nothing major has gone wrong. For its age, it's reliable, but nothing close to a Toyota, haha! Would I buy it again? Well, I'd get the older models from 90-98. I've heard they're built better.
