The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

We recently upgraded our vehicle to a 2016 Silverado LTZ from a 2016 Toyota Tacoma off-road double cab. The Silverado LTZ, equipped with a 6.2L engine and 8-speed transmission, has proven to be a more comfortable and efficient truck than the Tacoma. My family and I are thrilled with the spacious cabin, layout, and overall comfort of the Silverado. Personally, I am impressed with the smooth 6.2L and 8-speed transmission combination, which has provided excellent fuel efficiency. Even in sub-zero temperatures, I am achieving 19mpg on the highway, which is better than what I ever experienced with my Tacoma!

I bought my truck with only 6 miles on the odometer back in March 2004. Fortunately, it was recalled for the instrument panel, and I had a very good experience there. While it was still under warranty, I had to take it in for new Cats and O2 sensors three times, but I haven't had any issues since then. The last warranty items I had replaced were the comfort control switches. Now, with an impressive 190,000 miles on the truck, I'm replacing the brake pads for the first time, and the rotors have very little wear. I can confidently say that this is by far the best vehicle I've ever owned!

My truck has been holding up like a champ since the day I drove it off the dealership lot! With 53000 miles on it, I'm seriously impressed. I absolutely love my 2005 Chevy! It's by far the most comfortable and reliable vehicle I've ever owned. Living in a small town in Southwest Texas, having a dependable vehicle is an absolute must, and my Chevy gives me peace of mind every time I hit the road. With all the mileage I put on my truck, it's important to have a vehicle that can keep up, and my Chevy does just that. After breaking my back while in the military and undergoing four major back surgeries since, the comfort of my Chevy is truly unparalleled. In my opinion, the fuel economy is better than that of Ford or Dodge, and the OnStar feature down here really makes me feel secure. Plus, who doesn't love XM radio? Overall, I couldn't be happier with my Chevy!

I am extremely dissatisfied with my 2021 Chevrolet Silverado. Despite having less than 3000 miles on the truck, I have already had to visit the dealership three times due to issues with the check engine light. Each time, the same code appears and the dealership claims to have found no issues, simply resetting the light. This recurring problem is unacceptable and I will be returning to the dealership tomorrow as the check engine light has come on for the fourth time in less than three months.

The brand new 2.7 trail boss may produce a clunk noise when downshifting, but this is not a cause for concern. It is important to note that this is a common occurrence with the eight-speed transmission. Despite this, the vehicle is still a great investment at 50 grand.

I have owned this vehicle for 2 years, but unfortunately, the quality has not met my expectations. Despite my efforts to address the issues with Chevrolet and the dealer, the problems persist. The drivetrain was eventually replaced after multiple visits to the dealer, and the ongoing battle with the squeaking leaf springs has been a challenge. The body flex also produces some noise, which is a common issue. As a result, I have decided not to purchase another GM product.

This 2017 red line addition Silverado is a beautiful truck. I have owned four trucks in total, all of them being LT with the 4.3 V6. In my opinion, the 4.3 is a much better engine than the 5.3 V8. Unfortunately, my experience with this particular truck has not been great. After exceeding 5500 miles, it started having issues and has been back to two different dealerships multiple times. Despite my complaints, all they did was print bulletins from GM, claiming that my issues were normal and could not be fixed, except for a faulty muffler and a broken CD player. My MPG is also not great, averaging at 15, while others with the same truck get 18 to 24. However, I must say that the handling of this truck is 100% better in snow and rain, so that's a plus. If you're looking for a new truck, I would advise you to consider Ford or Dodge instead of GM trucks. Also, avoid buying trucks with 20-inch wheels as the ride is terrible. The Goodyear tires that come with most trucks are also not great, especially in snow, so I switched to Coppers and it made a huge difference. Overall, I would recommend doing your research before making a purchase.I hope this message finds you well. Since the body style change in 2014, I have been eagerly waiting to purchase a new Silverado. My previous truck, a 2007 Silverado extended cab Z71 4wd 5.3, was a great vehicle, but with 156,000 miles on it, I wanted to upgrade to a crew cab. In December, I sold my old truck and searched for a month until I found the perfect truck at the right price - a 2018 Silverado LT, crew cab, 4wd, 5.3, my dream truck. However, I noticed some issues with the transmission and performance early on. Despite the dealership's initial response that the transmission needed to 'learn' my driving style, I did my own research and found that many 2016 and 2017 models had similar problems, which GM has even named 'chuggle and fish bite'. I opened a complaint with GM, but unfortunately, I received the runaround. After returning to the dealership armed with service bulletin numbers, they were able to perform an ECM update that improved the shifting. However, my truck still does not run as it should. I have attempted to contact the GM customer service representative I previously spoke with, but have not received a response. It is disappointing that my new truck has not lived up to my expectations, and I regret not keeping my old truck.
