The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

The truck sounds great! It has a smooth ride, a quiet automatic transmission, and some really nice extras like automatic headlights, dual zone climate control, and a chrome front bumper. The seats are comfortable, and while it could use a fold-down armrest, it's still a great ride. The stereo is decent, and the interior is clean and simple, which fits the work truck vibe. I personally would upgrade to the V8, but even with the V6, I've consistently gotten 18 mpg. I opted for cruise control and a CD player, and I think it's definitely worth the extra money to get custom cloth seats and tinted windows. Overall, for the price, you really can't beat the quality!

I also pull a horse trailer for about 3,000 miles a year. I've checked out other trucks, but I have to say, this one is really solid and dependable. The comfort, ride, and power are just unbeatable. The truck is great, but unfortunately, I found out that the navigation doesn't work without OnStar putting in the address. As a Realtor, I am used to putting in 20 address locations for the day, then taking clients to each of them. It was much easier when I could just press a button and the next location was set, without any interruptions to our conversations. Now, I have to contact OnStar after each visit and have them put the next location in. I finally quit using it and am just using my Android phone instead. I also found out that the remote start and door locking is also OnStar too. Although I like the truck, I will not buy another vehicle that has OnStar, as it ties in too closely with the other systems. Having them call you to tell you about special offers is just too much. Unfortunately, I found out that you can't remove it either. Does it sound like I am totally against it? Yep, you bet! I would rather have a self-driving car. Also, mine has the V8, but that wasn't a choice on this website.

I purchased my Silverado Work Truck brand new from the dealer about a year and a half ago. It's a basic model, white in color, with a 4.3L V6 engine. The only option I added was the tow package. I was able to get a great deal on it since it was the last model year's stock, even though it's identical to the next year's model. This truck has exceeded my expectations in every way. It has plenty of power for daily driving, great fuel economy, and a comfortable ride for a leaf-sprung pickup. Unlike my previous vehicle from a competing domestic brand, this truck has never let me down. The interior is simple yet functional, and even the base model comes with some nice features like cruise control. I find these trucks a bit pricey, but it's worth every penny since it delivers day in and day out without any issues. **UPDATE 9/2020: The truck is still going strong. Recently, a leaking rear shock absorber was replaced under extended warranty. I also put on new Michelin tires last week, and the difference is noticeable. The factory tires weren't great and didn't last as long as I hoped. Overall, I'm still very satisfied with my purchase.

I bought this truck used with 15,000 miles on it, and now, 2 years later, with 45,000 miles on it, I'm happy to report that I haven't had any mechanical issues with it. I regularly tow a ski boat and while the fuel economy is slightly affected, it's not a major issue. The only problems I've had are with the leather seats cracking prematurely and a few spots on the dash chipping. I'm pleased to say that I get better than advertised fuel economy, with about 17 mpg in the city and 20 mpg on the highway with the 5.3L V-8. Of course, I do drive with a light foot and have a bed cover on the truck. My father has a 2005 4WD Ford F-150 with an identical bed cover and he gets better gas mileage than I do, but I find that the Chevy handles towing better and is more maneuverable.

The lifter of my 2021 loaded Silverado LTZ broke at 14200 miles while my wife was driving with our three grandkids in the back seat. Although my previous Chevys were bulletproof, this incident occurred on the interstate and the truck basically shut down with warning lights everywhere. The truck is currently in the shop with the engine torn down. However, I am confident that GM will fix the affected side and resolve the issue promptly.

After 40,000 miles... Here are some reasons why I prefer my Ford over my 2021 Chevy Silverado:1) The Android Auto connection can be unreliable. My phone gets deleted at random about once a month, which can be frustrating.1B.) The head unit's ability to recognize voice commands is not the best.2) During installation, the dealership had to drill a hole in the wheel well to get one of the trim pieces to secure in, which resulted in a notable rattling when driving at speeds above 55mph.3) The remote start can be unreliable at times.4) The adaptive cruise cannot be fully turned off.5) If you press down on cruise control more than once, the truck hits the brakes, which can be inconvenient.6) The mirrors can lock up when opening/folding them.7) The interior is not as high-quality as I would like.7A): A dog jumped on the seat and tore a small part of the seat by literally stepping on it. Nothing special.7B.) A piece of cardboard/wood trim tore part of the dashboard by bumping into it.7C) A few spots don't line up.8.) Resting your arm on the door with your hand on the wheel can be uncomfortable, as the door ledge can cause your arm to go numb after about 5 minutes.9) The auto up/down for the windows can be touchy.10) The maintenance schedule is more demanding than I expected.11) The interior lights auto-dim during the day, which can be inconvenient when going under darker overpasses.12) The oil (AC Delco 0w20 DexosD) can be difficult to find outside of a dealership or one specific shop.13) Some people have had trouble hearing me when using the truck's microphone.14) The windshield wipers that came with it did not last very long.15) OnStar/SiriusXM cannot be easily removed if you do not want them. Overall, I still appreciate my Chevy Silverado, but these are some areas where I think it could be improved.Every time you start the vehicle, it may say that it can't connect. Unfortunately, it is not possible to disable that app.

I like the truck, but I have noticed a few minor issues with it. There is some excessive wind and interior noise, and I have experienced some squeaks and rattles in the dash or left door. Additionally, I have had some trouble with the ONSTAR system, as the voice command cannot always understand my commands due to the high interior noise. I have also had some issues with the daytime running lights burning out. While I have not yet taken it back to the dealer, I am hopeful that they will be able to address these issues in a timely and effective manner.

I've always been a loyal Ford truck owner, but when my son started working for GM, I wanted to show my support for him and the company. That's why I decided to purchase a Silverado. Unfortunately, during a trip to Florida, I experienced some issues with the truck. The mechanics diagnosed it as an issue with the o2 sensor. Later on, the truck broke down again due to a coil issue, but the mechanics were kind enough to put me up in a hotel while they ordered the necessary part. Although it took a couple of days, they were able to fix the truck and I was back on the road. However, the truck broke down again on a Saturday afternoon while I was travelling through three different states. It was definitely frustrating to be stuck in a strange town with a new truck that had broken down, but I'm hopeful that the issue will be resolved soon.

The 4-cylinder engine in this vehicle is impressive, but the transmission seems to struggle with the instant power of the turbo. Despite only having 10,000 miles, there have been issues with slipping, jerking, hard shifting, and laggy performance. It has not been used for towing yet.
