The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

Vehicle year: 2017
I really like this P.U., but there are a couple of things that could be improved. Firstly, the brake pedal requires a bit more pressure than expected, but it's not a major issue. Secondly, the radio controls are quite complicated and require unnecessary steps to change bands or stations, which can be distracting while driving. The older radio controls were much simpler and easier to use. Additionally, the truck seems to surge when easing on the gas pedal. The 4-wheel/2-wheel/low-range knob light is very small and difficult to see in bright light, and even though the 2-wheel drive mode is selected, the P.U. can still be in 4-wheel drive, which is a poor design. However, the only major issues are the radio and the 2/4 wheel selector knob.

After a vehicle pulled out in front of me while traveling at highway speed, I found myself in need of a new vehicle. Unfortunately, the current market for vehicles is not very good due to the microchip shortage, which has put a hurt on used cars as new car shoppers have to look at other options. However, I was able to find a great replacement for my Equinox turbo 2.0 - a 2017 Silverado LT Z71 with the 5.3 and 6spd transmission. Although this option wasn't available in the selection tool above, it has proven to be an excellent choice. While the transmission isn't the smoothest unit, it is still one of the toughest in the world. The MyLink system works without error most of the time, and the interior build quality rivals RAM and is much better than Toyota or Ford's hard plastic interiors. The seats are unbelievably comfortable, and the radio has some really good sound to it. The V8 engine has serious grunt, and yet on the long drives between my customers, I'm averaging 21+ mpg - something my old V6 mini-trucks in years past couldn't do. My wife loves the fact that it'll tow her camper, seat us, the kids and the dogs! Sharpnack Chevrolet even provided me with a low-cost 100,000 mile warranty that covers the truck bumper-to-bumper. I called the top warranty companies, and their warranty options were nearly $3500, but I paid just $2,000. Overall, I am extremely happy with my purchase choice and look forward to many years of working, towing, and truck life.

I've driven many trucks from Ford, Dodge, and Nissan, but this truck will always be number one in my book. All my other trucks kept breaking down after just one haul of hay or one pull of my horse trailer. They just quit on me. I put more into my other trucks than this one. From my point of view, this is the best truck ever. And when I go mudding in this truck, it doesn't struggle like my old ones did.

I recently traded in my old 1999 Dodge 1500 4x4 for a brand new 2020 Trail Boss 6.2. Unfortunately, I've had a few issues with it. After only 225,000 miles, I thought it was time to say goodbye to my Dodge, but now I'm starting to regret it. The Trail Boss had just over 9 miles on it when I bought it, but soon after, the rear brake light on the driver's side stopped working. I thought it was just a loose bulb, but it turned out to be a major wiring issue. The dealer fixed it, but it took 5 days. Then, at the 7500 mile mark, my wife hit the remote start to go get coffee and heard a clicking sound. We turned it off and the dealer had to pick it up on a flatbed. After 3 days at the dealer, they found a bent push rod due to a broken retainer in a lifter. It's been at the dealer for a total of 3 weeks in the 5 months that I've owned it. I'm now looking into Lemon Laws for our state. I'm starting to think I should have just kept my old Dodge, but hopefully, everything will be resolved soon.

I have purchased a 2017 Silverado, however, I am experiencing some issues with the headliner coming off at the rear of the cab and a constant rattle in the cab. These issues are unacceptable for a vehicle that is only 2 months old. I am confident that these issues can be resolved and I expect a prompt and satisfactory resolution from the manufacturer.

I have a 2010 with 88,000 miles. Although I have had some issues with the rear wheel oil seal and front wheel bearings, I have been able to get them repaired for $1100. The brake light switch has gone out twice, but it was an easy fix. The gas mileage is not as good as I would like, with 20/13 on the highway and in the city. However, I still enjoy driving my Chevy. While the transmission shifts continuously at the slightest hill, it is still able to pull a 12' boat (1000 lb). My 2005 Silverado was a great vehicle that lasted 250,000 miles with only minor repairs, and got 21/17 MPG. Recently, the transmission has started shuddering when it changes gears, which may require a repair. Despite these issues, I still appreciate my Chevy and the joy it brings me.

My truck's estimated mileage is 15 city / 21 hwy. I drive normally and my highway mpg is 16 and city mpg is 12. Unfortunately, this has been my worst truck in terms of fuel consumption. You can even see a dirty black tailpipe. The dealer says that if it does not show codes, it is fine. It drives great and I like it, except for the mpg and the fact that it doesn't have a DIC switch for a Lt. I guess they didn't want to scare us with the estimated mileage it was going to show honestly. If I had known about this poor mpg, I would still be buying Ford trucks. My wife loves it, but at the same time, she hates it because it didn't come with running boards like all my other Fords. Other than that, it is a great truck with poor mpg.

I purchased a 2016 crew cab 4x4 which has now covered 32k miles. Unfortunately, I have experienced some issues with the vehicle such as poor transmission shifts, Chevy shake, airbag problems, clunky transmission, and a lopy idle. Despite my disappointment, I remain hopeful that these issues can be resolved. I am considering exploring other options, such as Toyota, for my future vehicle purchases.
