The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

I had trouble getting to shoulder of highway to get out of the speed of traffic. The issue was a collapsed AFM lifter # 6. All the lifters were replaced on the passenger side on my dime. 450 miles later, I had to limp again to the repair shop that performed the previous repair to find AFM lifter # 4 failed this time. GM has been knowing about these lifter issues for many of years and this is a safety concern while on busy highways.

- Summary: So the recalls were done on my vehicle in September 2023 , I purchased the vehicle in August and after the recalls were performed the truck would seem different but I thought it was just me, we'll I had an alignment done because it was driving crazy , this wasn't done at the chevrolet dealership, so recently we've experience some braking issues and pulling off to the side well I took it to the ryan chevrolet on a thursday and the mechanic kept the truck until Monday so he can diagnose the issue. We'll then he says nothing wrong but recommended I pay for an alignment because ones never been done the original pins were still attached. I declined because I knew better and so he charged me 80. 00 times 2 because I iefused, he was diagnosing the 2 different things I told him we were experiencing. These are the things that can occur if If the recalls arent taken care of, but he didn't care about my concerns, nor did he want to listen , o me I went to big o and I asked about the alignment and they showed me mt truck is perfect in alignment. The brake issues and the going off to the side are getting worse.

- Consequence: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

I've had experience with all three major truck brands, and I must say that the 2018 Chevy Silverado LTZ71 Double Cab is really impressive. The 5.3 engine has plenty of power, and the ride and steering are both great. The touchscreen could be a bit bigger and have fewer apps on the screen, but overall it's a great truck. While Ford's Sync system was good, I found Dodge's Uconnect to be even better. One thing I would like to see in the Silverado are 20-inch tires instead of 18.

I recently traded in my 2012 Ford F150 because of all the great rebate specials. I'm really happy with my new truck, it drives great! The only issue I've had so far is with the backup camera, which isn't very accurate. It guides you, but the distance to anything behind you is way off, and there's no warning sound to let you know if you're getting too close to anything.

When it comes to interior space, GM could learn a few things from Dodge Ram. They utilize every square inch of it. However, the radio and other electronics may be a bit complicated and require some learning to get the full use out of them. Additionally, the driver's seat is a bit too low. It would be great if they could install a level to bring it up for a better view of the road (I'm 5'6

I recently leased a 1500 Silverado and it looks great! The truck handles well, but I'm still figuring things out as I go. I was happy to receive two free service appointments, but when I asked about the third, I was surprised to hear that it would cost over $300, even though the truck had not yet reached 20k miles. On a road trip, halfway through my journey, I encountered some issues with the truck. The check engine and traction control lights came on, and I was worried about being stranded. I called the dealership and was put on hold for a while, but eventually, I was able to speak with someone. They suggested that the issue may have corrected itself, which was a relief. However, I was still concerned about what would have happened if I couldn't get through or if I had to hire a tow truck or rent another vehicle. Despite these issues, I drove over 500 miles and returned home safely. The next day, I encountered the same problem, so I called the dealership again. They were busy, but I explained my situation and they were able to fit me in. After waiting for three hours, the issue was resolved. Overall, my experience with Chevy was disappointing, but I'm glad that the issue was resolved in the end.

My truck has had some issues with violent vibrations between 66 to 75 mph. It has been to the shop twice, once at 8,000 miles where they replaced two tires, and the second time at 10,000 miles where they re-balanced the front tires. It is going back in on Friday for two more new tires. During the road test, they pulled over to the side of the road once the tires were hot and dropped the pressure to the 35 psi specified on the inside of the door. They claimed it was a good test and that they need to replace two more tires. However, I believe that cold tire pressure of 35 psi will only be 35 psi if you don't drive it. I am disappointed with Chevy after driving their cars for most of my life, and I am considering buying a Dodge next time.

The Silverado is a reliable, comfortable, and safe truck that also gets decent fuel economy. It's perfect for those who need a truck that gets the job done without needing to be overly impressed. GM has carefully equipped this truck to be on par with other OEMs in some areas and below in others, but it's clear that they value their truck buyers and their needs.

I recently purchased a 2018 LTZ 4-Door model with only 11k miles in August 2021. It was my first time buying a Chevy Silverado 1500, as I wasn't able to find an F-150 or RAM 1500 in my area at the right price/low miles in southern New Hampshire. Although the truck had all the bells and whistles and excellent interior features, I experienced some mechanical issues. It handled roughly at speeds of 65+ and didn't have solid stability. The transmission would jerk at times and felt like it was slipping. Despite bringing it to a Chevy Dealership twice, they said there was nothing wrong with the transmission and that it was due to the cylinder change feature. I eventually traded the Silverado in for a very low miles/2019 RAM 1500. While I wasn't happy with losing money due to the trade-in, I learned a valuable lesson. I will be more careful with my next purchase and do more research. Thank you for reading!

I purchased my Chevy Silverado in November 2017, a 5.3 ZR71 Fully loaded with only 103 miles on it. Unfortunately, it seems to be having some issues now that it has 38000 miles on it. When I try to put the window up or down, it starts going up-and-down by itself without any input. Additionally, when switching from automatic to 4 high or 4 low, it gets confused on what to do. A friend of mine even noticed that when I shifted it, the front tires wanted to go backwards while the back tires wanted to go forward. It's definitely a strange situation, especially since it started happening after only 36000 miles. I'll be sure to update this review with any new developments.

Chevy failed to stand behind their product and their customer service was terrible. I recommend buying another brand. It is unacceptable that rust was found on my truck with less than 36,000 miles on it and Chevy did not take responsibility for it.
