The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my 2001 Pewter LS Silverado. I've put 97,000 miles on it and it's still going strong! Even though I haven't been able to garage it, I'm amazed that there isn't a spot of rust on it and the paint still shines. I make sure to take it through the car wash 1 to 2 times a month and get the wax treatment that's included. Besides replacing the fuel pump and thermostat, I haven't had to do much maintenance on it. I'm constantly getting offers for the truck and compliments from other pickup owners. It runs great and doesn't have any rattles. The door speakers have started buzzing, but I think it's just because of age and wear and tear. The only issue I've had is with the tires. I'm on my 3rd set of Bridgestones that are 16/60/ 275's. I purchased this truck in 2018 from its second owner when it had only 145k miles on it. As of 2022, it has only accumulated 167k miles. Despite the original plugs, wires, and shocks, the truck still ran and looked perfect. I decided to replace the shocks with the 5100 model Bilstein shocks, which are known to be the best for Chevy's. The upgrade cost me about $80 each, but it was worth it. Whether driving on the highway or off-road, this truck handles great. The only issue I had was with the parking brake, which fell apart at 155k miles. However, it was an inexpensive fix as the brake rotors are located inside the rear brakes. As with most early 5.3, 4.3, and 4.8 engines, this truck has a little bit of a cold start knock or piston slap. However, it is not a major concern. The fact that Chevy still produces a 5.3L engine in 2022 with 50+ more horsepower than the original 295 HP engine in this 2001 model speaks volumes about the durability of the small block Chevy motor. When I bought the truck, I added a 3-inch Cat back Magnaflow exhaust with a dry K&N air filter to boost its power. Today, in February 2022, the truck still runs smoothly, whether on or off-road, towing or empty. The larger exhaust and K&N air filter have helped it breathe better, giving it plenty of power for this era of 5.3L engine. The truck still has its original 4L60-E 4-speed automatic transmission, which is known to be bulletproof if maintained properly. As long as you keep clean coolant in the radiator (which also cools the transmission fluid) and drop the transmission pan every 40k miles or so to drain the fluid and clean the screen, the transmission can last between 200k to 300k miles. Overall, I have always been a Chevy guy, and this truck has been great. It rides smoother than its competitors, with no rattles or leaks even after 21 years. It still does not require adding oil between changes. Although I am reluctantly considering getting a 2010-2016 3/4-ton model, I am having a hard time parting with this old 2001 1500 4x4.

This is the most powerful truck I've ever owned! The chassis is also the stiffest, which is great. It's much better than my '03 F150, which I got rid of after 7 months for the '01 Chev. Although I've had some issues with the A/C and cold start knock, I got those fixed. The tie rods and steering system needed fixing at 70,000 miles, which was expensive without warranty.

I bought this truck used with 20K miles on it. So far, I've put 7300 miles on it and it has been an excellent vehicle. If you're looking for a vehicle that gets 45 MPG, this might not be the one for you! However, compared to Ford and Dodge, the power and mileage are great. I'm averaging 17 MPG around town and about 20 MPG on interstates. I haven't had any problems with it so far and have only spent money on maintenance items. I would definitely buy another one!

I highly recommend my local car shop for their fair and honest service. They always do good work and never overcharge. Here's the story of my Chevy pickup's repairs, as told by my mechanic. At 90k miles, the gas gauge and warning lights stopped working, which my mechanic said was typical for these trucks and fixed for $400. At 95k miles, all 4 upper wheel-wells had rusted through, and my mechanic estimated the repair cost at $4,000. He explained that even if they grind down to bare metal, it probably won't stop the rust. The automatic transmission needed a full rebuild at 95k miles, which my mechanic said was not uncommon and cost $2,600. At 100k miles, the rear brakes needed repair, including the rotors, which my mechanic said was average for these trucks and cost $800. At 140k miles, the rack & pinion steering needed repair, which my mechanic said was unusual but not unheard of, and cost $370. Finally, at 160k miles, all the brake lines needed to be replaced, which my mechanic said was a common repair at that mileage and cost $1,300 mostly in labor (since they had to remove the box, etc.). Despite my pickup being the most unreliable vehicle I've ever owned, I always feel confident taking it to my local car shop for repairs.
