2009 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 problems
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Complaints included issues with knock sensors, which are located underneath the engine near the starter, leading to a check engine light with a knock sensor code.
- Symptoms of a bad knock sensor typically involve triggering a check engine light without significant drivability issues.
- Paint and Trim Rust:
- Numerous owners reported rust issues on various parts of the vehicle, such as fender wells, rear wheel wells, and the underside of the truck.
- Rust problems were widespread, affecting areas like fenders, doors, roof, and tailgate, with some owners describing extensive rusting as if there were factory defects in the painting or priming process.

STRUCTURE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-16
- VIN: 3GCEC33029G
- Components: STRUCTURE
- Summary: I realized last weekend that BOTH of my rear doors were full of water. When I opened the rear door on the drivers side, I heard a water sloshing sound, which caught my attention. I closed & reopened the door & once again I heard the sound clearly. I left the door open & noticed the water pouring out at one corner. The water was draining from inside the door panel. I went to the passenger side of the vehicle & noticed the exact same situation. After 30 minutes of swinging the doors back & forth, I drained over a gallon of water from EACH of the rear doors. Considering the weight of a gallon of water, this is very much a safety hazard, not to mention the corrosion & rust that I am sure have built up over time.

It happens because water runs down a line that enters the cab and gets absorbed by the acoustic padding. This is a known issue as there is a recall for other states. My state is not one even though Louisiana is one of the wettest states and we also use salt in the winter when the roads ice. I’m glad I didn’t get hurt by this since it can cause the seatbelt pretentioners to fire and/or the airbag to deploy. This is the document from GM/NHTSA. GM Bulletin [XXX] [XXX] Can you please include Louisiana in this recall since the issue is affecting us? INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Ironically if you read some of the stories. Regardless of what year the truck is or how many miles is on it. They have all went out around the same time… odd my truck has been parked awaiting this part for 7 months. I’ve continued to make payments on this undriveable vehicle. I've always been a fan of Ford trucks, but after trying out my first Chevy, I'm really impressed. The new Chevy V8 with 8 to 4 cylinder technology and 6 speed automatic is giving me 20 mpg or better, even with aggressive tires. I'm blown away by the gas mileage and love the sound of the engine. The motor and transmission are far superior to my last F150 (Triton V8) and I'm getting much better gas mileage. The ride is very smooth and it's a great truck for towing. The manual mode of the 6 speed transmission saves your brakes and the

So glad to hear that you're enjoying your new truck! It sounds like the ride is much smoother and quieter than your old Silverado, and the 6 speed in tow/haul mode is making a big difference with your snowmobile trailer. The bluetooth is a great addition, although I can understand your concern about its impact on OnStar sales.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with this truck. I took it on a trip to Tennessee and drove 2300 miles without any problems. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it had an average fuel economy of 18.5, which is pretty good for a vehicle of this size with a 5.3 engine.

Hey there! I just wanted to share my experience with my 2009 Chevy Silverado Crew Cab WT with 4.8 V*. I got it for under $20K and I honestly believe it's the best value out there right now. The truck handles like a dream and the WT trim is surprisingly nice. The stereo, satellite radio, and OnStar are great additions too. The interior is simple yet nicely designed, and the quality is top-notch for a work truck. I'm getting an average of 18.5 MPG, which is amazing to me considering the size and capability of this truck. I even tow a race car and this truck is more than capable of towing my 4000 lb rig over mountain passes. I got it for a sale price of $19988, which made it a no-brainer for me. Thanks for listening!

The truck is generally fine, but there seems to be a slight delay of about 7/10 seconds when accelerating too quickly. It's worth noting that Chevy is aware of the issue, but they have yet to release a fix. I would recommend holding off on purchasing a Chevy until this problem is resolved.
Simeon Schmeler 2024-10-17
The seats in this truck are made of a cheap, soft outer foam with a hollow inner core that compresses easily. Unfortunately, after a couple of thousand miles, they become uncomfortable and saggy. Additionally, there are some driveline thumps and clunks, and fuel sloshes and thumps between 3/4 and full. The brakes also tend to squeal at 5-15 mph braking. Furthermore, the accelerator pedal sticks out too far, making it difficult to straighten your right leg and still reach the steering wheel, which has a shorter shaft. I even hit my head getting into the truck! The center review mirror also hides pedestrians and vehicles at traffic lights, which almost caused me to hit a few because I couldn't see them. Lastly, the fuel economy is poor, and the cab is too skinny at the roofline, with a roof that is too low. The seats are also too skinny, and there is no under hood light. Despite these issues, I hope this feedback helps improve the overall driving experience.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with this truck. While I think it looks better than the new Ford (which has an ugly tailgate), I did have some trouble with the cloth interior. It's a bit difficult to clean and requires a lint brush and tape. Additionally, I had to take the truck in for a new transmission and a problem with the solenoid hose, which was routed incorrectly and caused a loud noise. Unfortunately, the transmission went out after only 3 months. I also had some trouble with the automatic tire pressure gauge light, which came on just 2 days after I drove it off the lot. Despite 2 attempts to reset it, the issue persists. While the price was right for this truck, I don't think I'll be buying another Chevy anytime soon.

With 3200 miles on this truck, the doors rattle so bad I need ear plugs. The dealership has been unable to find a fix for this problem. Additionally, the fuel gauge sensor broke and two chrome door handles had to be replaced. The fuel management system is also not up to par and there is noise in the drive train after normal braking. As a result, I am very disappointed with the quality of this vehicle and will not be purchasing any more GM products in the future.

This is a nice truck, but there are some areas for improvement. The heat/AC instrument panel could be more user-friendly, as it takes your eyes off the road for too long. Additionally, it would be helpful if the fog lights could be used independently of the headlights, especially in foggy or snowy conditions. The low beam lights could also be improved for better visibility. Another suggestion would be to make the rear floor flat under the seats for more storage space. While the 2009 model may have less storage room than the 2002 Silverado, it still has some great features. Overall, there are some design elements that could be improved, but this is still a solid truck.
