2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 problems
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.

In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.

These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on October 13, 2016. Update 10/11/16: The truck has been a great purchase! It has over 27,000 miles on it now, and I've towed a 5,000 lb trailer up grades of up to 11% with no problems at all. I've had the truck since July 2015 and have put 18,000 miles on it over the past 9-10 months. I can't say enough about how impressed I am with the truck. The interior is super quiet, even when towing an RV. I've seen some people report transmission issues, but I haven't experienced any. The RV is about 4,000 lbs and has been towed for about 1,000 of the miles on it. On the highway, with the cruise set to 73mph and a soft tonneau cover on, I've gotten 24.8mpg over 400 miles. Around town, I get 18-19 mpg as long as I'm not a lead foot. Overall, I highly recommend this truck!

I'm so glad to hear that you've had such a positive experience with your truck! It's great to have a vehicle that you can rely on, especially when it comes to towing. I understand that it can be hard to part with a vehicle that has been so dependable over the years. Thank you for sharing your experience with me!

This Chevy truck is a great choice overall. With my experience driving two other Chevy pickups in the last 10 years (1994 C1500 and 2003 C2500HD), I can confidently say that this is the best one yet. The truck has a smooth ride and handles like a dream. The interior is decent, with comfortable cloth seats and a modern, easy-to-read instrument cluster. The digital speedometer is a great feature that sets it apart from other Chevy trucks. Although the USB ports don't have a high amp output, I found a solution with an Anker adapter. The truck has a running board that makes it easy to get in and out, but the running board could be improved by sticking out a bit further. The 5.3L V8 and 6-speed auto tranny provide great performance, but the active fuel management system can sometimes inhibit the overall performance. The transmission system can be a bit eager to upshift, which can be annoying at times, but overall, I haven't had any mechanical issues with it. This Chevy truck is a reliable and powerful choice that won't disappoint. The truck drives great and hardly requires any acceleration to get up to speed. It has a maximum payload capacity that I have tested and it performed well. The 4x4 system works great, even with tires that only have about a year left on them. The steps in the rear bumper corners are a great feature for climbing into the bed. Overall, this is a great truck that has performed well so far. I am confident that it will continue to do so in the future.

I traded in my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 Diesel for a 2015 Chevy Silverado High Country. It's an awesome truck! It has all the latest technology, including GPS, Bluetooth, 4G Lite, OnStar, and USB. It's pretty much a PC with four wheels. The ride is so smooth on the freeway that I forget I'm driving a big truck. It's very spacious both in the front and back seats. The gas mileage is reasonable, averaging 18 mpg with a fuel range of 420 miles for mixed driving. I love my truck and it gets a lot of attention on the road.

I buy a new truck every 10 years. If you're looking for a great deal, try searching for a vehicle at the end of the year.

Although the truck is very good, the driver's seat has been a major disappointment. The headrest is positioned so far forward that it is impossible to look straight ahead, and the seat itself is incredibly uncomfortable. The shoulder blades dig into the seat, making it impossible to drive for more than 30 minutes without taking a break. Despite trying to add a seat cushion, the seat still lacks proper lumbar support. As someone who has been driving trucks for over 45 years, I can confidently say that this is the most uncomfortable seat I have ever had the misfortune of sitting in. It is disappointing that the dealer was not more sympathetic and simply dismissed the issue as a design flaw.

I have experienced a vibration at speed and have visited the dealer multiple times to address the issue. Despite their efforts, the vibration has not been eliminated. However, after conducting research, I have discovered that this is a common problem affecting many 2014 and 2015 vehicles, particularly those with 20

Whether you bought your truck 8 years or 8 weeks ago, it's important to note that they may not be as dependable as you'd like and can be quite overpriced for what you get. In my experience with my 2015 Silverado, which has 70K miles, I've noticed that despite taking good care of it by washing it 3 to 5 times a month, waxing it every 90 days, and keeping it undecorated, the wheel arches rusted through. I had to replace the passenger side of the bed at 5 years, which cost me $3,000 for a new bedside, and now the driver's side fender arch is corroding through. It's important to note that the dealer doesn't tell you that you should remove the tail lights every 90 days and wash out the wheel arch areas with a wand attached to a garden hose. I've also read a lot of complaints about the Silverado's shaking and vibration when operating the vehicle over 70 mph, which I have to agree with. Additionally, the back light of the information center went out and the dealer gave me an estimate of $800 plus 3 hours of labor to repair it. However, an independent mechanic suggested I check the power connection behind the cabin air filter, which turned out to be the problem. While Silverado's are a good looking truck, it's important to note that the cost of ownership can be quite expensive.

In 2017, I traded my Chevy for a Ram. I found that the Ram has a higher quality interior, a smoother ride, and is much bigger. Most importantly, it doesn't require frequent trips to the shop. The last straw for my Chevy was when the four-wheel drive went out and it wouldn't move forward or backward. I've always been a Chevy girl, but I'm not feeling the love for the 2015 Chevy High Country. It's in the shop more often than not. First, a new rear end was installed to stop the vibration, but then there was a stalling out feeling on corners that they can't seem to fix. The windows won't go down if it's damp or in the morning, and they can't fix this either. The transmission shifts like you're getting hit from behind, and they can't fix this either. Lastly, the navigation can't understand spoken words. I never thought I would say this, but I'm considering Ford to replace this truck. Chevy, please get it together.

If you're looking for a high-quality truck, the new Chevy Silverado may not be the best choice for you. Unfortunately, my 2016 model (which I bought new) has had some issues with vibration, and despite taking it to two different dealerships, the issue has not been resolved. While the dealership tried several solutions, including replacing parts and the exhaust system, the issue persists. Although GM has declined to issue a recall, I'm disappointed that they haven't taken more action to address the issue. If you're considering this truck, be aware that it may have some vibration issues. I regret spending over 40k on this Chevy, but I hope that others can learn from my experience.
