The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

I purchased this truck brand new in January 2004. Since then, I have only had to replace the tires and brakes at 60,000 miles. With a 4.8 liter engine, I get 15 mpg in the city and 18 mpg on the highway. The 4WD is particularly useful in the northeast. While there is some road noise, the truck still cruises at 70mph and feels surprisingly like a sedan. I have not had to replace anything yet and have not needed to bring it to the dealer even once! If you are in the market for a truck, I highly recommend taking a serious look at a GM.

It's great to see that there are still products out there that are built to last. This truck is a perfect example of that. With 200k on the clock, it still runs like a dream and everything works perfectly. Even when something does need fixing, the parts are cheap and easy to replace. I originally bought it as a work truck, but I find myself driving it more than my luxury car. The design is refreshingly simple, with no complicated computers or dials to navigate. It's clear that form follows function with this truck, which is a rarity these days. Hats off to Chevy for creating something that will outlast everything else I own!

I've always been a fan of the Silverado, but I've noticed that recent models seem to be built with cheaper materials. Unfortunately, my last two Silverados both had air conditioning problems within the first two years. Even my 2004 model, which I keep garaged and wash regularly, had to have the rear differential cover replaced due to rust. It's disappointing to see such poor quality materials being used. When I compare my 2004 model to my 2002, I can see a noticeable difference in the quality of workmanship and parts. That's why I've decided to switch to a Toyota for my next truck.

Despite the gas prices being high at the time, you were able to get it for a fantastic price of $7,000. While the V6 may not be the most powerful, it still gets the job done and you've been able to average an impressive 20 miles per gallon during your daily 30-mile commute. It's also great to hear that you haven't had any issues with it. If you're looking for a comfortable and easy-to-drive truck for weekend work, a basic 1500 is definitely worth considering.

Overall, I really like this truck. As a long-time Ford fan, I appreciate its features. The only thing keeping this truck from being a perfect 10 is the clunky shifts that are so popular with GM. They try to say that this is normal, but we all know that's not true! I believe that they should stand behind their $29,000 vehicles.

We experienced engine performance issues from the beginning, which required the computer to be reflashed three times. As the mileage approached 45,000, the engine began to knock during morning start-ups, resembling piston slap. By 75,000 miles, the engine was difficult to start, and compression on three cylinders measured between 70-75 pounds. Consequently, we had to replace the motor, and later, the transmission. Despite requesting warranty coverage for the poorly designed pistons and transmission failure, our concerns were not addressed as promised. As a loyal GM customer for 30 years, I regret to say that I will not be purchasing another Silverado.

I purchased the truck brand new and used it mainly between 2004-09. After that, I kept it as my 'chore' truck and only used it for light duty purposes, covering a maximum of 4-5k miles per year. Unfortunately, in 2013, at 79k miles, the Head cracked and coolant leaked into the engine, resulting in a $4500 repair at the dealer. I later found out that there was a 'service bulletin' issued in 2006, which implies a manufacturing defect in CasTech Heads (see #06-06-01-019B bulletin). Just 8 months and 1250 miles later, the 'check oil' light came on, and I discovered that the engine was 4-ish quarts low on oil. I took it back to the dealer, but they claimed that they must have forgotten to put the oil in the engine properly after the repair. I was disappointed with their response, and they didn't take any responsibility for their mistake. I continued to use the truck for light duty purposes, but 20 months later, with 84,600 miles, I discovered that the oil level was down 3.15 qts. I took it back to the dealer, but they refused to take responsibility for their work. I had to do an every 1000 mile 'oil consumption' test to get GM to pay, which was quite frustrating. I would advise being cautious of these engines, as there is a lot of information out there about oil consumption on these engines. The interior dash buzzes incessantly at certain RPMs, but fortunately, I did not experience any issues with the interior fit. Overall, the truck has been okay, and the paint is generally in good condition.No issues with the transmission, wheels, steering, or AC, but it has only clocked 84k miles. It's a shame that I couldn't drive this quality vehicle for 25 years as planned.

This is a good looking vehicle, and while there is a constant clunking noise, it is important to note that GM has acknowledged this as a normal occurrence due to torque buildup between the transmission and transfer case.
