History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: My truck is a 2014 with only 53,000 miles on it. I bought it used in 2016. (it was still under factory warranty) When I tried to get my truck inspected last month the shop told me the frame had holes and cracks in it, was not safe to drive and needed repaired/replaced. I did some research and found SB 19-NA-255 regarding my truck. This issue seems to be a wide spread issue with that truck. I took it to the Chevrolet dealer I bought the truck from (WOOD Chevrolet in Carroltown, PA) to ask about the bulletin. They called their GM rep and he told them there was nothing they (GM or the dealer) could do about it. This is a known safety issue and I believe GM should take care of the repairs. Right now I had a vehicle that is not safe to drive, has very low miles and is not safe to drive.

- Summary: I have a 2014 Chevy Silverado that just got a broken seatbelt driver side tension rod. This was serviced in 2016 due recall and closed with just a plate put in place. Now because the rod may have been compromise it finally gave out and the tension rod completely snapped off and my seatbelt is broken and unsafe. I called dealer that performed repair said they couldn’t do anything I called gm/chevy and said it’s normal wear and tear that doesn’t seam correct to me. There’s an issue with it and it shouldn’t snap off while driving I shouldn’t have to pay out of pocket for a know defect that was not properly corrected and was just preformed a quick fix that didn’t solve the issue.

The flexible steel cable connecting the driver's seat belt to the outboard side of the seat may be repeatedly bent over the seat side shield as the driver enters and exits the vehicle causing the cable to fatigue and separate.
- Consequence: A broken pretensioner cable reduces the effectiveness of the driver's seat belt, increasing the risk of injury.

If a wheel-speed sensor fails, while the vehicle is traveling between 41 and 60 mph in four-wheel or automatic mode, the Electronic-Brake Control Module (EBCM) software may activate the driveline-protection system.
- Consequence: Unintended activation of the driveline-protection system will cause unintended braking on the wheel on the opposite side of the failed sensor, causing the vehicle to pull to one side unexpectedly, increasing the risk of a crash.

I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with how the truck drives and feels on the road. Although it's not a 4x4, it certainly feels like one. The power of the V6 is outstanding and performs exceptionally well. I am about 500 miles into my first ever new vehicle and I am in awe. Although I did have one hiccup when it rained hard one day and I drove through some puddles, causing the check engine light to come on. However, the next day it was gone. I will have to check it out next time it rains. Overall, I am extremely satisfied with my purchase and would highly recommend it to any new buyer.

This Chevy is amazing! It drives so smoothly and quietly, and the gas mileage is fantastic. I've owned six new Chevys in the past, but this one is definitely the best. I traded in my 2011 2500HD 4wd crew cab with 6.0L for this truck because I needed something that sat lower to the ground. I'm getting 5 more mpg on the highway and in local driving, which is great. I tow a 34' TT and a 24' enclosed trailer loaded with antique engines and still get 12mpg or better. I've only had to take it back to the dealer for an oil change and computer recall, and it's only got 8000 miles on it. The only downside is that you can't get camper mirrors on this truck unless you get the Max package.

This is the first brand new truck I have ever owned. I chose Chevrolet because I am a firm believer in their product and paid attention to all of the high ratings from various reports. The truck sits well and is very comfortable, with leather seats and an extremely quiet cabin. It rides very smoothly and shifts well. The backseat offers a lot of space, which is great for my two small kids who have no problems with room.

Just wanted to give you an update on my car. I'm thrilled to say that after 20k miles, it's still running like a charm! It's solid, dependable, and incredibly comfortable. Even my son, who isn't a car guy (he's looking forward to driverless cars), seems to like it. Despite its size (19 feet!), it doesn't feel like a chore to drive. The backup camera is a big help in parking lots, and it handles winter weather and off-roading with ease. I love the full-time AWD in winter and the true 4WD when needed. I'm really happy with it all around. I got a 2014 high country, and while it was expensive, it's extremely comfortable and easy to hop in and out of. It has a fairly soft ride considering it's a truck with full off-road capabilities. I've put about 10k miles on it, and I haven't had any issues whatsoever. The controls are big and solid, and there are no rattles or highway noise. It holds together in corners as well as you can expect from a truck. It pulls my boat and snowmobiles easily (not surprising for a V8), and I get 18 mpg no matter what type of driving. It makes me wonder if the electronic mpg calculator is working - I've never calculated it manually. People love riding in the back - there's as much room as a limo! The backup camera is outstanding, which is good because this beast would be difficult to park otherwise. And the parking sensors are helpful. Overall, I'm very happy with it, especially the room and ergonomics.

In the past month, I have noticed a clunking noise coming from underneath my truck when I slow down. Based on my knowledge, it sounds like the driveshaft or u-joint is the source of the noise. Despite taking it to the dealer for a 4-day inspection, they informed me that everything is normal. However, I am still concerned about the rattling noises in the cab. It is disappointing to hear that a truck I purchased new with only 11,000 miles on it is experiencing these issues, and the dealer's response has not been helpful. I believe that this is not normal and I would appreciate further investigation into the matter.

This is my very first brand new truck from a dealer with only 200 miles on it. I bought it 2 days ago and tomorrow it's going back to the dealer shop. Unfortunately, I didn't test drive it as thoroughly as I had with pre-owned cars, and it turns out that zero miles doesn't always mean zero problems! After driving my beautiful truck around town and on the freeway, I noticed a shake or vibration when idling or driving at normal speeds, even at the passenger and rear seats. It just shakes! I took it back to the dealer, and after two people drove it, they confirmed that there was definitely something wrong. After going back and forth with GM and the dealers, and even after a lemon law case, I finally got rid of the truck. The dealer paid me back all my money and my down payment as well. I went straight to the Toyota dealer and got a 5.7L Tundra! What a difference! Now that's a real truck, and don't even talk about resale value! The only downside about Tundras is the MPG, but hey, no more Chevy shakes and trips to the dealer. That will make up for all the GM hassle!

Where should I start? This truck has been a nightmare. To make matters worse, GM's response, or lack thereof, has been disappointing. The driver's seat keeps moving and shifting, and despite GM's attempts to fix it three times, the issue persists. The radio is missing lights that are clearly shown in all the brochures and the Sierra has them. The headlights have condensation, and the RPMs fluctuate with a rough idle that GM can't seem to fix. The heated seats don't function properly, and the radio reception is poor. The rear power sliding window motor is constantly breaking, and there are thin spots on the paint. Lastly, the column shifter is loose. Unfortunately, this experience has left me with the decision to never purchase another GM product again.

The car was purchased new and has been garage kept with less than 30,000 miles on it. Although it has had 13 recalls, it is currently in the dealer for a recall and the smell of antifreeze. Despite these issues, the car is still worth the investment.

I recently purchased my second Chevy Silverado, the first being a 2001 model which I had no issues with. However, my experience with the 2014 Chevy Silverado has been quite different. Unfortunately, I experienced cab noise which was quite bothersome, especially on windy days. I took it to Broadway Automotive in Green Bay, WI, but my experience there was not great. They suggested that the seats be removed and that there was probably a cab pressure valve that was stuck. Additionally, the driver seat heater went out and the seat itself would make noise and get loose, which required fixing. Lastly, the AC condenser went out in the middle of summer, which was an unexpected and costly repair. I have owned many vehicles in the past and have never had an AC condenser malfunction, especially in a vehicle that is only a couple of years old. I did complain to GM, but unfortunately, they directed me back to the dealership who was unable to do anything. As a result, I have decided that this will be the last GM product that I purchase.
