2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 problems
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Common 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 problems
The 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, one of the most popular full-size pickup trucks, has faced several issues reported by owners, despite its powertrain options and strong towing capacities.
One of the significant problems is related to the engine, specifically with defective engine lifters. Many consumers have reported engine issues, with the check engine light, service ESC light, and service parking brake light coming on, accompanied by shaking and a lack of power. This problem is attributed to a known issue with General Motors, and it is only a matter of time before a severe accident occurs due to this defect.
Another problem area for the 2021 Silverado is the transmission. Owners have reported transmission problems resulting in many online complaints. A common issue is a massive hesitation when shifting from gear 1 to gear 2, which can cause passengers to lurch forward. This issue happens every morning and could potentially affect safety in high-traffic areas.
The 2021 Silverado has also faced recalls, including one for defective seat belts. The recall indicates that incorrect bolts were used to attach the seat belts, and General Motors is replacing the bolts on affected models for free.
In summary, the 2021 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 has faced several problems, including engine lifter defects, transmission issues, and recalls related to seat belts and other safety concerns. These problems have affected the reliability and safety of the vehicle, leading to numerous complaints from owners.

I had not seen anything on the road previous to this or anything in the air so it seemed strange to have “hit” something. I was about an hour from my destination still so when I arrived I checked out my headlight. I then discovered I hadn’t hit anything, a piece of the fascia of my truck had blown off in the wind, which was the first sound I heard, then proceeded to impact my drivers side mirror. I’m not sure how long it was in the air or if it had impacted any vehicles on the highway behind me.

The Silverado is well equipped even in its basic trim. The build quality is great, and the ride and handling are awesome. It feels like you are riding in a luxury car.
-
This is my 5th Silverado! This one is the 1500 LT double cab 4cylinder turbo. It's a great truck all around and I've received a lot of compliments on it. It rides really nicely and I get 20-23 gpm back and forth to work.
-
I recently upgraded from a 2017 1500 Silverado to the 2021 RST and I must say, I am thoroughly impressed with the ride quality and solid feel of the RST. It's definitely an improved truck! The 5.3L engine is simply awesome!
-
Hey there! That's an awesome truck!
-
Our truck is really great! The 5.3 engine with 8spd shifts smoothly and the power is more than adequate. The cabin is spacious and quiet, which makes for a comfortable ride. I did notice a couple of design features that I don't quite understand, such as the lack of LED lights on the 4WD buttons and the lever for tilt and telescopic that I just can't seem to get used to. Also, I think it would be great if we could shut off the DFM. Overall, though, I'm really happy with our truck!

I have always admired Chevy trucks and was thrilled to purchase my first brand new truck, a 2021 Silverado LT Trail Boss with the 6.2L engine. However, after only 4K miles, I noticed a clicking noise that got progressively worse. Despite contacting the dealership, I was unable to get the truck in for repairs for several weeks. Once diagnosed, the issues were significant, including a failed cam shaft and faulty lifters. Although the dealership agreed to replace the engine, I also reported other issues such as creaking and popping noises from the steering column, a rattling noise from the exhaust during start-up, and an exhaust leak. While the dealership attempted to address these issues, they were not fully resolved, and I am still waiting for a part to fix the exhaust system. As a result, I am disappointed with the performance of this truck, despite following the manual's recommendations for fuel and never taking it off-road.Despite my initial excitement for the truck, I have unfortunately experienced multiple issues with it, including a failure of the 2L engine after only 4K miles. While I appreciate the appearance and features of the truck, I cannot rely on its dependability. I had considered purchasing a new 2022 model Silverado, but after researching reviews, I have decided to explore other options outside of the Chevy brand. Although it is disappointing to have to write a negative review, I feel it is important to inform potential buyers to exercise caution when considering this truck.

I really like the look of this truck and it drives very nicely. It is also very well appointed. However, I had a bad experience with it when it left me stranded 400 miles from home in western Montana due to a disintegrated pushrod that disabled the engine. Although the dealer rebuilt one side of the engine and things were going well, unfortunately, the same thing happened after another 1500 miles. It took 14 weeks to fix the issue, which was quite distressing for me as I travel in very desolate areas of central and northern Montana where breakdowns in the winter can be life-threatening. Despite this, I must say that this is one of the safest vehicles I've ever owned. I'm considering looking at Toyota and Ford when my wife gets a truck next year. I would advise caution when considering Chevy until they figure out how to build an engine that doesn't disintegrate. Also, it might be a good idea for them to build it in America instead of Mexico. On a positive note, I'm happy to report that the truck runs well so far. Lastly, I just noticed that the 1500 Silverado and its GMC cousin sit in first place on the list of least reliable vehicles for 2021 according to Consumer Reports.

I recently leased a 2021 Silverado 1500 and unfortunately experienced some issues with the engine at 21,258 miles. While I was 300 miles away from home, the engine started making a strange noise and lost power. I was able to make it to a nearby dealer and they were able to repair the issue. However, shortly after leaving the dealership, the check engine light came on and the engine was still not performing as it should. I took it to my local dealer and they found that the previous repair had failed and additional parts needed to be replaced. While it's frustrating to have experienced these issues, I'm grateful that I was able to get the necessary repairs done in a timely manner. I'm hopeful that the repairs will hold up and that I won't experience any further issues. Despite this setback, I still appreciate the quality of the Silverado and the service provided by the dealerships. Thank you for your attention to this matter.

I had a 2021 Trail Boss LT 5.3, which was a beautiful truck that always received compliments. However, I experienced some electrical issues with the stereo, which caused me to take the truck to the shop three times. The first time was when the truck had only 200 miles on it. The dealer initially suggested that the issue was with my iPhone, but even after upgrading my phone, the issue persisted. Eventually, the dealer swapped out the stereo, but the issue continued, albeit less frequently. Unfortunately, the dealer was unable to address the issue further. At 9k miles, I started experiencing issues with the check engine light flashing occasionally. The dealer was unable to replicate the issue and no codes were shown. On my second visit, I refused to take the truck back until they gave me an answer. A technician hooked up his laptop and found misfires. I was then informed that faulty lifters are common in these trucks, but they won't repair them until the truck starts knocking or the check engine light won't stop flashing. Unfortunately, I lost a lot of money and had to sell the truck at 16k. Needless to say, I won't be buying a Chevy again!

I had a lifter failure on my 2021 Silverado LTZ which resulted in a bent pushrod, as others have reported. Although the dealer was quick to take care of me, I was disappointed that GM did not authorize them to replace BOTH banks of lifters, only the bank which failed at 35,000 miles. While I really liked that truck, I no longer trusted it to take me well past the warranty periods. As a result, I decided to trade it and I am now driving a Ram 1500 Laramie. Based on this experience, I won't be going back to GM trucks.
