The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: Three weeks ago, I exited my running truck and saw that the left front driving light wasn't working. Turned the turn signal on and it would not function either. At first the rear light was blinking normally. Then after about a minute it began to flash rapidly and the display showed, check left front turn signal. Shut it off and unit worked after restart. Two weeks later, did the same thing. This time it did not reset until the next day. It seems to malfunction when the headlights are activated, and I noticed there is a unit mounted on the back of the headlight assembly that appears to control it and the headlights, as it is one unit. I recorded it on video, and when I took it to the dealer, they were able to confirm the issue. They are going to replace that assembly. After some research, I am discovering that this is beginning to look like a common issue as others that own 2022 model years and up report the same thing. My vehicle has only 12,600 miles on it, and I have found people with 2024 GMC trucks also experiencing it. This is concerning as it is a safety issue with nonfunctioning turn signals or running lights. As I stated before, the first time it happened there was no warning that the driving light wasn't working nor was there a warning the first time it happened that the front turn signal wasn't flashing for over one minute. Most times your signal isn't on for that period of time. Mine is warranted but some people said that without proof; the dealer can't duplicate the issue, so they aren't replacing it. Out of warranty the lighting unit costs about 1,500.00 and it isn't something an average individual can replace. GM also charges a 200.00 core charge on these. The service manager called it a restricted item. I would appreciate your looking into this to see how widespread this might be. I'm assuming it has something to do with the headlights being on and the heat generated by them causing the failure, but that is just a guess. It is a safety issue though

My battery voltage is normal, I have a REDTIGER F7N 4K Dual Dash Cam running 24/7 but it is drawing 4.5 to 5 watts; the car is rarely left parked for more than a day. I was initially bothered that there was no On/Off for the Auto STOP/START but I am even more frustrated that it is no longer working and no apparent reset short of taking the truck to the dealer for service.

When this happens, the entire front head lamp does not work. A warning on the dash shows as "Check Left/Right Front Turn Lamp" and the audible turn signal click is faster than normal. Turning the truck off for approximately 15 minutes fixes the issue until it returns again at random. Having functioning head lamps and turn signals is critical to safely operating a vehicle.

I was then able to barely limp to dealership. Check engine light finally came on just before I got there. They say defective transmission cooler seal and lines. I have no idea. Truck in shop for 5 weeks and no idea of when it will return. According to various Chevy/GMC forums, it's happening to others. Some have had entire transmission replaced in a car less than a year old. Not being able to exit an intersection is a problem.

- Summary: While driving approximately 20MPH and entering a left turn lane, I activated the left turn signals and discovered the driver side front turn signal was inoperative. A cluster message appeared indicating the left front turn signal was inoperative along with hearing the audible double speed "tick tock" indicating a bulb failure. When I arrived home, I also discovered the daytime running lamp (DRL) on the driver side, which shares the same portion of the lamp as the turn indicator, was also inoperative. On the next drive cycle the fault cleared itself. A non-functioning turn signal increases the risk of a vehicle crash. This is also a non-compliance with FMVSS 108, Lamps, reflective devices, and associated equipment. VOQ's 11584694, 11582809, 11577734, 11566682, 11561217, 11555917, 11548335, and 11528583 describe a similar failure and are happening early in the vehicle's life.

- Summary: MY Vehicle (2023 Chevrolet Silverado) has been in the shop over 9 times due to issues with the radio. I bought Truck on June 2 and since then have had truck in several times due to a radio issue. Each time i have taken truck in i have been told it's a "Software Update" should be good now. Spoke with GM Customer care and their exact words were shut the radio off drive without it. The radio volume with go full blast while driving even when the radio is turned down low. When this happens, it scares you some wheel jerking. I could see someone getting hurt while this is happening, upon looking at a few different forums i am a part of this is a concern and affects a lot of drivers. The fact GM customer care simply states just shut the radio off is a real concern, We as consumers pay a lot of money for these vehicles this in my opinion is not the correct response. They don't have a fix for this yet is also what the woman from customer care had to say. this truck is over a year old. how is this possible? GM is aware of this issue but has done nothing but continue to put people's lives in danger. I don't think telling their buyers to turn off the radio and drive without it is what should be getting said.

Every time I’ve had somebody drive it, it does not act up for them. I’ve had several parts replaced with the same problem coming back 50+ miles later. When it gets ready to shut down it throws the check engine light, service esc, collision light, and traction light, then says speed reduced or speed will be reduced in 175 miles. The electronic brake control module software may fail to display a warning light when a loss of brake fluid occurs. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Vehicle Safety Standard number 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems."
- Consequence: Without a warning light, the vehicle may be driven with low brake fluid, which can reduce braking performance and increase the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: The Electronic Brake Control Module (eBCM) software will be updated through an over-the-air (OTA) update or by a dealer, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed October 28, 2024. - Summary: General Motors, LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Cadillac CT4 and CT5; 2021-2023 Buick Envision; and 2022-2023 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, Tahoe, GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles. The daytime running lights (DRLs) may not deactivate when the headlights are on. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, "Lamps, Reflective Devices, and Associated Equipment."
- Consequence: DRLs that do not deactivate as intended may result in a glare, reducing visibility, and increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: The body control module software will be updated by a dealer, or through an over-the-air (OTA) update, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 23, 2023. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-888-988-7267, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006. GM's number for this recall is N222386380. This recall expands previous recall number 22V-827.

I have a Silverado Custom 1500 Quad Cab. The truck rides well, handles effortlessly, and has great acceleration. The turbo 4 is very impressive in power and drive-ability. The visibility is great and the seats are super comfortable. The dashboard has easy-to-read and use gauges, while the climate controls are simple and the AC is very efficient. The entertainment system is similar to an iPhone, with all the basics you need. The tailgate is dampened and closes easily, and there are lots of tie downs. The in-bed lighting is really good, and I appreciate the AC outlets in the cab and bed. It would be even better if you could skip to the next preset, but unfortunately, you can only skip to the next station. Also, the radio knob is a bit small.

I purchased a Trail Boss with the 10-speed transmission. Despite a minor issue with sun glare reflecting off the short chrome piece on the left side of the dash and into the driver's side mirror, I still love the truck. It's important to note that this glare could potentially be a safety issue, as it can be quite distracting.

Hey there! I wanted to share my experience with the Chevy Silverado 1500 LTZ with 6.2L V8. While the inside of the truck is nice, with comfortable leather seats and a large infotainment center, I've had some issues with towing. I live in Central Florida, where the roads are flat and it's about 50 miles to either coast. I tow a 4500-pound boat on a dual axle trailer, maybe 5500 pounds when loaded. After having some expensive issues with my 2018 F150 3.5 Ecoboost, I decided to give Chevy a chance after reading the reviews about the 6.2L engine for towing. However, I didn't realize that it requires premium unleaded fuel, and I've spent a lot on gas - about $7000 for 7000 miles. I'm getting 8.6 mpg and the truck can never get comfortable at highway speeds (70mph). It has a 24-gallon gas tank, which means frequent stops for gas. With the F150, I often forgot I was towing a boat, and it had a 36-gallon tank taking unleaded fuel at 11 mpg rather than 8.6 on the Chevy. While the F150 is better at towing than the Chevy, I do appreciate the Chevy's interior features. I do have some rattles that drive me nuts, but I'm sure a trip to the dealer could assist with that. Overall, I think the Chevy is a great truck, but it didn't quite meet my expectations for towing. Thanks for listening!

The 2.7 Turbo engine in my 2023 Silverado failed to start despite having only 3040 miles on the clock and a fully charged battery. Although the instrument lights came on with the heater and parking lights, the truck would not start. Despite being informed by the dealer that a software update was required, the issue persisted and the truck is currently back at the dealership as of 12/15/23.

The 2022 Trail Boss with LM2 diesel is a great truck, but unfortunately, the fake scoop is a bit of a letdown. I initially thought it was a real scoop when I was getting a diesel, but it turns out it's not. To make matters worse, the fake scoop rubs against the hood and has chipped the paint. For a $60k truck, this is frustrating.

After a year, I wish I had kept my 8-year-old Ram 2500. My ZR2 has been in the shop four times for the radio and twice for the wiper/blinker arm, but unfortunately, it has never been fixed. To make matters worse, it has now started making rattling noises behind the back seat.

I'm so excited for the new Chevy upgrade! It's great to see Chevy catching up with Ram and Ford with a more comfortable interior and modern features and engine choices. However, I did notice that the 6.2L engine is only available with 4 wheel drive in the high end models, and the 5.3L engine with an 8 speed transmission is still being offered. It's a shame that the 6.2L engine with the 10 speed transmission in a two wheel drive is no longer available. The interior is definitely a step up from last year, but the seats are still a bit narrow and uncomfortable. Overall, I'm curious about the decision-making process behind these design and option choices. Regardless, I'm still excited to see what Chevy has in store for the future!
