2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 problems

chevrolet logo

The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.

The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.

History

The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).

For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.

In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Negative 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 car reviews

  1. Camden Funk 2024-10-01

Although I have experienced some issues with this truck since purchasing it, I have taken the necessary steps to address them. The side door strips have come off a few times, and I had an oil leak at 27,000 miles which required the replacement of the rear main seal. While the dealership was replacing the rear main seal, they accidentally tore the transmission seal, which resulted in a transmission fluid leak. Fortunately, this was covered under warranty. At 37,000 miles, the rack and pinion needed to be replaced, and while GM did not offer to help pay for the repair, I was able to get it fixed for $750. Recently, I noticed a white milky substance in the oil pan and on the dipstick, which could be coolant in the oil. I am hopeful that GM will be able to assist me with this issue.

  2. Quentin Olson 2024-08-04

The interior fit and finish could use some improvement. Unfortunately, the plastic tends to rattle and make cracking noises, and the seats make a cardboard noise when sat in. Additionally, there are some wind noises on both town and highway driving, and the doors tend to rattle. However, the 4.8 auto-track is a great power train and the gas mileage is average. It may be worth considering updating the factory tires for an even better driving experience.

  3. Burley Bartell 2024-05-10

I've been the proud owner of my Silverado for four years now. I have the 4.8 V8 and 3.73 gears. Over the years, I've noticed that Chevy gears their vehicles too tall, which affects fuel mileage. However, I still manage to get 13 mpg in the city, 14 to 15 with a little suburbia thrown in, and 17 - 19 on the freeway. I even got 20 mpg once on the Olympic Peninsula--flat at 55 mpg! The reliability of this truck has been outstanding, with only a fuel gauge relay (?) that went out. I've even towed a Honda Civic from Southern California to Portland Or. and back with no problems and got 14 mpg. The truck is extremely comfortable, but the fuzzy seats collect lint like crazy--what's with that? Overall, I highly recommend this truck, especially with the 5.3 and 6 speed.

  4. Karson Paucek 2024-04-01

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my truck. I bought it brand new back in September 2007 and it's been almost 4 years now with only 43K miles on it. I've only had one problem so far, which was having to change out the broken hubs at 40K, but unfortunately it wasn't covered by warranty. Overall, I think it's a great truck! However, I have noticed a few things that could be improved. The transmission can be a bit harsh with jerks, clunks, and hard shifting, but the dealer says it's normal. Additionally, there's a wind noise at speeds over 65MPH that seems to be coming from the front doors or dash. Despite these issues, I'm still really happy with my truck. In fact, I even installed a 6

  5. Duncan Doyle 2024-03-27

I remember why I didn't keep my last Chevy for very long, it was back in 1994. I traded it for a Nissan and haven't been back to the dealer since, although I probably should have taken it in. Unfortunately, the seat foam is showing on both sides and sticking out the bottom. Even though we've only driven about 23,000 miles, the tires won't pass my next state inspection. It's definitely not my driving, I'm 58 years old and don't drive like a teenager. To make matters worse, the chrome on the rear bumpers is already rusting and there's a strange thumping or bumping sound when taking off or shifting gears. Lastly, I'm disappointed that I don't have the option of buying On-Star, which I pulled the fuse on because as soon as I turned it on, they began to try to sell me more.

Positive 2007 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 car reviews

  1. Louisa Ullrich 2025-01-01

I've had my truck for 2.5 years since it was new and I absolutely love it. It runs great, looks great, and is comfortable and fun to drive. It has plenty of power, which is great. However, there are a few things that I didn't consider when test driving it. The select cloth seats collect lint like crazy, which is a bit of a nuisance. I'm not sure why GM chose this material. Additionally, the basic speakers aren't very good and rattle even at a low volume. When towing, the gas mileage is pretty bad, but it pulls like a champ. I had to replace the rear main seal at 25k and turn the rotors at 35k. The side moldings are starting to peel off at 45k. Overall, I think it's a great truck and I use it like a truck.

  2. Ransom Kuvalis 2024-11-13

I've now owned my Silverado LTZ for 3.5 years.I haven't had any major problems, but have had my fair share of small ones.I had a battery problem when I first bought the truck that the dealer replaced.I needed to replace a rear wiring harness that had corroded, the electronic rear sliding window broke and needed replaced, the DVD broke and needed new wiring, my air bag sensor went bad and also needed replaced.I love the exterior and interior looks of the truck, but am disappointed with the electrical issues so far.The truck has so many bells and whistles that things are going to quit working eventually.Fuel economy is okay so far.I average 15 mpg city and 18.5-19 on the highway.

  3. Marc O'Reilly 2024-11-08

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with my new 07 1500 Crew Cab Ltz VMax 4X4. I've put 1500 miles on it so far and I have to say, I absolutely love it! The ride is incredibly smooth and the interior comfort is top-notch. The fit quality of the interior is excellent and the body panels and bumper are also very well-made. I've owned Jeep Grand Cherokees for my last 4 vehicles, but after seeing the new body style of the 1500, I decided to switch things up. I'm so glad I did because I'm very pleased with this truck so far. The only downside is the gas mileage, but I knew what I was getting into when I bought a pickup truck. I do wish the active fuel management would stay in V4 mode longer, but that's a minor issue. I have a large dog and child and there's still plenty of room in the back of the truck for them and their toys. Overall, I would highly recommend the Lt2 to anyone looking for a nice non-SUV. Thanks for reading!

  4. Tristian Orn 2024-10-29

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your LTZ! It sounds like you're really appreciating the smooth ride, comfortable interior, and overall feel of the road. I'm sure it will handle pulling your boat with ease, given its plenty of power. And I couldn't agree more about the Bose sound system - it really rocks! I understand that it can take some time to figure out all the buttons and controls, but I'm glad to hear that you're finding the driver information system to be nice. It's a shame that the truck isn't quite hitting the 20 highway MPG that Chevy and Howie Long advertise, but it's great that you're still averaging about 15 miles per gallon with 90% highway driving and feathering the gas pedal.

  5. Leopold Kshlerin 2024-10-26

I'm really glad to hear that you're enjoying your driving! It sounds like this truck is everything you were hoping for - comfortable, quick, and a real head-turner. I can imagine that waiting for the 6.0 V8 was tough, but it's great to hear that it has every option available. And it's even better that your wife has forgiven you for the purchase, especially since you've already driven it 1100 miles in just 9 days!
