Pontiac Grand prix problems

The Grand Prix is a line of automobiles produced by the Pontiac Division of General Motors from 1962 until 2002 as coupes and from 1989 through 2008 model years as four-door sedans.
First introduced as a full-size performance coupe for the 1962 model year, the model varied repeatedly in size, luxury, and performance during its production. The Grand Prix was the most expensive coupe Pontiac offered until the 1970s, when the Bonneville Brougham and the Firebird Trans Am became more exclusive. Among the changes were positioning in the personal luxury car market segment and mid-size car offering from the second generation to the fifth generation for the sedan and from the second generation to the sixth generation from the coupe.
All Grand Prixs from 1962 through 1972 were pillarless hardtops (except for the 1967 convertible),

The Pontiac Grand Prix, produced from 1962 to 2008, is known for its sporty appearance and spacious trunk. However, like any vehicle, it has its share of common problems. - Steering Issues: Steering problems are another common issue in the Grand Prix. For instance, the 2004 model has 60 complaints related to steering issues, with some drivers reporting that they did not receive a notice for a 2009 recall addressing broken steering knuckles, which can result in major long-term damages.
- Electrical Issues: Electrical problems are prevalent in the Grand Prix, with more than 100 complaints reported for the 2004 model. Issues range from melted fuses and fidgety switches to electrical fires under the hood.
- Transmission Problems: Transmission issues are also common in the Grand Prix. For example, the 2006 model has 44 transmission-related complaints, with drivers reporting engine stall and excessive oil consumption despite an absence of visible leaks.

What car do you know that goes out of second gear at 100 mph? This is just an all-around great car with a tight, awesome ride. As someone who sells them, I can honestly say that I love them. The '06 model is the last year for the blue-green crystal color. For more information, I recommend reading the Car and Driver review to get the real facts. Best regards, Kyle -NY-

I got my 2006 Grand Prix (base) in March 2009 and I must say it's been an excellent performer and a reliable daily driver. I've had little to no problems with it since I've owned it. The car definitely makes daily driving exciting with its 200hp-230 torque and has defeated many a foe. It also responds very well to modifications. I've added a CAI, ZZP 304 SS headers, downpipe, and catback with Flowmaster Super 44s, and it sounds badass. My friends love its quickness and superb ride quality on the road. It's a bliss to drive daily and a joy when the go-pedal is abused. In short, it's an excellent car, and I would recommend it to everyone.

I purchased this car brand new from the dealership in Golden, CO. The car had 1,000 miles on it and was previously owned by the general manager. It has been an excellent and dependable car. The oxygen sensor went out, but it was replaced under warranty at no charge. At 80,000 miles, the dealer replaced the Mas Air Flow Sensor, fuel filter, and power steering hose. Recently, I replaced one fuel injector, as well as the transmission fluid and spark plugs at 105,000 miles. The car is currently experiencing some coolant loss, which I believe is due to leaks in the manifold or head gasket. The windows have had intermittent issues, but they are currently working fine. At 78,000 miles, I had an issue with the original rotors shimmying when hot, but I replaced them and have not had any problems since. The paint still looks great.

I feel incredibly fortunate to have my Pontiac Grand Prix. I purchased my car back in 1998 when it had only 27,000 miles on the clock. Now, in 2005, it has 195,000 miles and has never caused me any significant issues beyond the usual maintenance requirements. I have had to replace the alternator twice, as well as a few hoses and bulbs, but nothing major. My car, whom I affectionately call Prixie, has been an incredibly reliable companion. I am eagerly anticipating the day when I can upgrade to a new Grand Prix, but I will always cherish the memories I have shared with my beloved Prixie.

We've had this vehicle for almost 3 years and overall, we're happy with it. Despite being an affordable car, it performs quite well. While the build quality could be better and the steering feels a bit heavy (thanks to front-wheel drive), GM did a great job with the rest of the car.

You have a real gem there! It's one of only 1500 made in 1991 with a 5-speed and the 3.4L DOHC engine. While it's definitely a fun ride, it can be a bit tricky to work on and parts can be expensive. Just keep in mind the maintenance costs and you'll be good to go!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my car. I bought it 2 years ago with the plan of trading it in after a short while. However, it has been such a reliable car that I've added another 60k to the odometer. Recently, I had an issue with the heater core which caused no heat and air, but once it was fixed, it worked like a charm. I was even able to fit a twin mattress in the trunk with the back seats down, so no need for a pick-up truck! However, my kids have been complaining about the lack of back seat legroom, which I have to agree is a little on the short side. I think it may be time to get rid of it, but I just hope I can find something as reliable as the Grand Prix. Thanks for listening!

I bought this car about 2 years ago first and last pontiac i ever owned. owned 2 different cavaliers previously both went to 180000 miles with only oil changes and alternator going out on both. the grand prix on the other had... it was a blast to drive great acceleration... looked great....automatic start wonderful... my husband was unfortunatly involved in a serious crash in this vehicle and was killed instantly... was hit in the passanger side door and the entire car broke in half... the sheriffs department, tow company and others that were at the scene stated they never saw another car split like it did. the weld in the frame came apart upon impact and possible was defective.
