1995 Pontiac Grand prix problems

pontiac logo

The Grand Prix is a line of automobiles produced by the Pontiac Division of General Motors from 1962 until 2002 as coupes and from 1989 through 2008 model years as four-door sedans.

First introduced as a full-size performance coupe for the 1962 model year, the model varied repeatedly in size, luxury, and performance during its production. The Grand Prix was the most expensive coupe Pontiac offered until the 1970s, when the Bonneville Brougham and the Firebird Trans Am became more exclusive. Among the changes were positioning in the personal luxury car market segment and mid-size car offering from the second generation to the fifth generation for the sedan and from the second generation to the sixth generation from the coupe.

All Grand Prixs from 1962 through 1972 were pillarless hardtops (except for the 1967 convertible),

I HAVE LIVED IN THE SAME PLACE SINCE I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM FERGUSON PONTIAC, PAID CASH, AND HAVE NOT RECEIVED A RECALL OR BULLETIN ON THIS CAR. ARE THEY STILL LIABLE SINCE I HAVE HAD TO DEAL WITH THESE PROBLEMS ON MY OWN AND HAVE BECOME FRUSTRATED WITH THIS PONTIAC, MY OPINION I WOULD NOT BUY ANOTHER PONTIAC. BUT, WHERE DOES THE RESPONSIBILITY END WITH THE DEALERSHIP? CAN I CALL THEM AND PRINT OUT THESE LISTINGS? ARE THEY STILL LIABLE TO REPLACE OR REPAIR?*JB

EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM

  • Date Of Incident: 2002-09-23
  • VIN: 1G2WJ12M0SF
  • Components: EXTERIOR LIGHTING
  • Summary: SINCE THE GRAND PRIX WAS PURCHASED IN NOVEMBER OF 1994 {1995 MODEL} IT HAS BEEN TAKEN INTO THE DEALER 10 TIMES FOR EITHER THE LEFT OR RIGHT TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY LEAKING WATER INTO THEM. THE VERY FIRST TIME THE CAR WAS TAKEN IN WAS DECEMBER 5, 1994 FOR THE LEFT TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY TO BE REPLACED. THEN IT JUST CONTINUED ON FOR ANOTHER 4 REPLACEMENTS OF THE LEFT TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY. THEN THE RIGHT SIDE STARTED TO LEAK. THEN BOTH AT THE SAME TIME. THE LAST TIME IT WAS LOOKED AT BY THE DEALER WAS IN 1999. SINCE THEN IT HAS BEEN LEAKING ON AND OFF CONSISTANTLY. RECENTLY I TOOK THE ASSEMBLY OUT MYSELF AND FOUND THAT THE INNER MOLDING OF THE ASSEMBLY WAS WARPED. I HAVE NOT CONTACTED PONTIAC OR THE DEALER WITH THIS FINDING, SINCE THE MANUFACTURER TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD NOT HONOR A REPAIR. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY PROBLEM BECAUSE THE TAIL LIGHT ASSEMBLY FILLS UP WITH WATER AND WHEN THE BRAKE LIGHTS ARE ACTIVATED IT CAUSES A MAJOR FOG AND CONDENSATION IN THE ASSEMBLY, SO THE LIGHTS ARE NOT VISIBLE TO CARS BEHIND YOU. AND THE WATER HAS NO WHERE TO GO SO IT STAYS IN THE ASSEMBLIES AND CONTINUES TO CONDENSATE. I AM FRUSTRATED WITH PONTIAC BECAUSE THEY STATED THE MILEAGE WAS TOO FAR OUT FOR A WARRANTY COVERAGE. I'M LOOKING AT IT FROM A SAFETY POINT AND THAT I HAVE TAKEN THE CAR IN SO MANY TIMES FOR REPAIR TO BOTH LIGHT ASSEMBLIES. I ALSO FEEL THAT BECAUSE THE CAR WAS A NEW BODY STYLE FOR '95 THERE ARE PROBLEMS THAT THE MANUFACTURER DIDN'T WORK OUT. THE LIGHT ASSEMBLIES HAVE BOTH BEEN REPLACED WITH NEW ASSEMBLIES, BUT THEY CONTINUE TO LEAK. SO THIS COULD BE LOOKED AT AS A RECALL ITEM. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP YOU CAN GIVE. DT

Negative 1995 Pontiac Grand prix car reviews

This special edition white Grand Prix has been providing me with reliable service for the last 10 years of my ownership. I bought it brand new and, although there have been some expensive maintenance and electrical repairs, the dealership has always provided precise mechanic work. To keep this 2-door coupe running smoothly, it is important to use GM parts for replacement. Despite its age, I am still proud of its handling and I drive it every day on my 50-mile round-trip to work. It remains a fun car to drive!

This was my first car and it served me well. When I got it, it had over 160k on it and now it's being parked at my father's warehouse for my younger brother to eventually drive. The car is reliable and got me from point A to point B without any major issues. Occasionally, the computer would be a bit annoying with gear changes, but only if you were trying to accelerate quickly at 40mph. At around 165k, we found coolant in the engine which was quite expensive to replace. It's not uncommon for this car to have the oxygen sensor go out, but that's the case with most Grand Prix's. The only downside for me, being an 18-year-old who loves rock music, is that the sound system is VERY weak and the steering wheel controls are negated once a 3rd party stereo is installed. I liked my Grand Prix enough to buy another one this week.

Good car. She's seen Florida and back. Other than that, this car has a good engine if you take care of it. Paint could be better but after 6 Chicago winters, this car has NO RUST!! Great reliable used car for the money.

This car is really exciting to drive. It's fast, dependable, and the color is one of a kind. The leather seats are also incredibly comfortable. But the best part of the car is definitely the exterior - the dual exhaust and factory spoiler are just amazing!

  2. Bertrand Bode 2024-11-24

I love this car! It has so much horsepower for an automatic vehicle. It's definitely my favorite car that I own.

I just bought this car! I had a 1991 Pontiac Grand Prix and was looking to upgrade. I was able to buy this car for $2200, which was a very nice deal that I couldn't pass up. The car is very clean and runs great. I love to go fast! ;)

  4. Dalton Frami 2024-10-29

The car is impressive, although it could benefit from more horsepower. Additionally, the body could be more durable.

You made a great choice when you bought this car back in 1998! It has been a reliable and trustworthy vehicle for you, with only general maintenance and wear and tear items needed over the years. Even with over 130,000 miles on it, it still runs great! It's impressive that you get about 20 mpg, usually a little more, with mostly city driving. You mentioned a few minor issues with the blinkers and auto locks, but it's understandable for a car that's 12 years old. Overall, it's a fantastic, dependable, and pretty economical vehicle!
