The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

I'm glad to hear that you found the perfect truck for you and your wife! After researching and test driving many trucks, the GMC stood out as the clear winner. It's great that the truck is easily accessible both inside and out. Although you experienced some minor issues, it's good to know that they were covered under warranty. While the fuel economy may not have been as good as you hoped, it's important to remember that you have a V8 engine and a towing package. Overall, it sounds like you're very happy with your purchase and even plan to upgrade to an extended cab in 2008.

What a fantastic driving experience! The powerful 350, great interior, and body style make this a great pick. Not to mention the dependability and solid feel of the car. Performance exhaust by Flowmaster or Gibson is definitely a best buy so you can hear and feel all the car has to offer. Whatever you plan on using this truck for, you're going to love it!

I purchased this truck back in April when it only had 20 miles on it. The interior is a significant upgrade from the 04 model. While the touch screen info system takes a little getting used to, it is not too complicated. However, the voice activation software could use some improvement as it takes several tries before the system understands what you want. The setup in the G8 works very well, so GM should have it perfected by now. The WIFI hotspot was okay, but not something I would use regularly enough to keep. The resolution of the backup camera is good, and I like the scaling on the display as it keeps things in perspective. The ride is a little bouncy, but road noise is minimal. I have the 5.3L engine with the trailering package, and the power is good, but the transmission seems slow to shift when driving around town at 30mph. I have not had any service or equipment issues, and I have driven 4XXX miles, mostly on the highway. My only true peeve is getting in. I did not get the step or rail, so even with my 6'.2

Drum brakes! List price 38k + and I got drum brake on the rear-end. Maybe they could improve the safety rating by putting disc brakes all the way around. It would be great to have better brakes on this truck!

In July 2023, I purchased the 2023 Sierra Elevation as a quick replacement for my totaled 2021 F150 Hybrid. It's a beautiful truck with a 5.3L V8 engine that provides plenty of power and a smooth ride. Although I towed with it once without any issues, I wouldn't buy it again. I thought it had a 9500 lb towing capacity, but it turned out to be only 9300 lb. Additionally, GM would not sell me towing mirrors, which was disappointing. I ended up buying Boost towing mirrors, which aren't as good as GMC's towing mirrors. When I went to plug in my trailer backup camera, I realized it didn't have a cigarette lighter plug, so I had to buy a USB adapter to cigarette lighter plug. The gas tank is too small for a truck with the towing package, and it didn't have a brake controller, so the dealer installed a Curt Spectrum brake controller, which is too complicated for me. Although the truck has some drawbacks, I haven't had any recalls or issues like I did with my F150. However, I think I'm going to go back to a F150 Hybrid. Thank you for considering my feedback.

Specifically, there is a clunking noise when shifting from 2nd to 3rd gear which can make driving less enjoyable. It is surprising that this is considered normal according to a GM tech bulletin, especially since it doesn't happen when shifting between other gears. Despite this, GM has refused to repair the issue and the dealer was not very helpful either. It's a shame that such a great truck is let down by this one problem.

During the 9 months that I owned this truck, I encountered several issues. I kept a record of 17 problems by the time I traded it. One of the issues was a loud 'whistle' and a sound of pebbles in the wheels when the truck idled while rolling. Despite replacing the alternator, the problem persisted. However, after replacing the water pump, the issue was resolved. Another problem was the truck slamming into gear while idling down the road. It turned out that a transmission part was installed backwards, which was surprising. This incident might have triggered a recall. Eventually, I decided to trade the truck.
