Gmc Sierra 1500 2015 problems
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

STEERING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-09
- VIN: 3GTU2WEJ7FG
- Components: STEERING
- Summary: After parking the truck in the garage, the "check power steering," light came on. I immediately lost power steering. I shut the truck off, and about a minute later started it and the power steering worked enough to turn the wheel 1/4t turn to the right and the wheel locked and never moved again. I don't mean hard to turn, I mean would not turn. Had it towed to the dealership in Fairbanks, Alaska and they verified that the wheel would not turn at all. Recommended replacement of the streeting box. There were no prior indicator lights on the truck and little warning of failure. Losing ability to control the truck could have got me in a bad accident. I understand that this was an issue and there was a GMC recall, but my truck was not part of that. The Fairbanks dealership said they never saw one lock up light that before. The truck does have a damaged title due to a house fire and the truck was parked near the garage and it melted the plastics/grill etc. Repairs were made by a certified body shop.

AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-09
- VIN: 1GTV2UECXFZ
- Components: AIR BAGS,SEAT BELTS
- Summary: My son's 2015 GMC Sierra side impact air bags went off while he was driving. He had no impact. He thought he hit a small pot hole but after driving back on the road, it was recently paved so it was not a pot hole. He guessed it was the edge of the road from the recent paving that he hit. He heard a loud noise like a gun shot. His cabin filled up with smoke and the side impact air bags when off. When he took the truck to the GM Dealership, it gave a code for front air bag deployment due to impact. But the side air bags went off and there was no impact. The only damage to the truck is the deployed side airbags and the locked seatbelts. He has a warranty but they kicked it to GM. Warranty stated that if they fixed it, they were worried that it would happen again. We filed a claim with GM. After GM sent three different inspectors out and over 5 weeks later, they denied the claim. They have also not sent the inspection reports as requested. My son did not have this truck for the first three months he owned it because GM could not find the faulty code causing transmission issues. I am worried the air bags deployment will happen again while he is driving at a high speed and cause a serious wreck.

POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2023-07-31
- VIN: 3GTU2UEC5FG
- Components: POWER TRAIN,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM
- Summary: I purchased my truck (15 GMC Sierra z71 4x4) with around 122,000 miles on it. I would be owner #2. Truck ran great. Around 150,000 miles I noticed my truck's transmission start to jerk while accelerating from gear to gear. No engine light ever appeared. Problem stopped. A few days later while dropping my daughter off at school, my truck wouldn't go passed 35 mph. I had to put the shifter in manual and shift to third gear. Other gears would just rev the rpm's to 4 or 5. Since I didn't want to put my family, me and others on the road at risk. I parked my truck and started driving my other vehicle. A few months went by, and my other vehicle had a flat tire, I had to drive my truck to work. On the way home from work, my truck started acting up again, jerking while accelerating. speedometer would go up however truck didn't move. I had to pull over quickly so I wouldn't be broken down in the traffic lane. I turned the ignition off and waited five minutes and started the truck up. I was able to make it home. At this time the engine soon light came on. I ran my scanner on my truck and code P0700 TCM was the only code showing. I had a Gmc dealer look at my truck and stated I would need a new transmission. I have done many months if not almost close to a year of research with results showing that transmission problems just what I was experiencing are a common problem with 2014-2019 chevy and Gmc / Silverado pickups with transmission 6L80. I dropped my truck off at another transmission shop just yesterday 3/3/24 and the results today were I need a new transmission. Torque converter issues. The shop stated that they repair / rebuild almost three chevy / gmc trucks like my truck a week with the same transmission problem. I still owe on my truck and shouldn't have to pay almost 6K for a transmission that is known to be an issue from the start of factory build. I own many older model gm / chevy vehicles and only had one other issue with one which also had a known recall issue.
SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-02-22
- VIN: 3GTP1UEC3FG

SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-11-18
- VIN: 1GTV2UEC0FZ
- Components: SUSPENSION,POWER TRAIN
- Summary: The component or system failed was the transmission 4 different times. A new transmission was put in the car just 6 months after purchasing from a dealer. The transmission lasted close to 3 years being shy only a few days before the transmission warranty expired. So a new transmission was provided by the transmission owner at no additional cost for the transmission but we had to pay $1600 out of pocket for labor. That transmission lasted for 2 months before failing again which caused us to have the truck towed to our home to decide what our next step would be. So we had it towed to Tire max and they put in another transmission by the same manufacturer which we only had 2 days left under the warranty. That transmission failed within 2-3 days so we took it back to a different Tire Max location and they put in another transmission which did not cost anything for us by the manufacturer including labor. This transmission has now been in good standing since 12/20/23.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain 2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Tahoe and Suburban, GMC Sierra 1500 and Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade vehicles. Electric power steering (EPS) assist may be lost momentarily, followed by a sudden return of EPS assist.
- Consequence: If EPS assist is lost and then suddenly returns, the driver may have difficulty steering the vehicle, especially at low speeds, increasing the risk of a crash.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will update the EPS module software, free of charge. The recall began October 12, 2018. Owners may contact Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 and GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 18289.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: AIR BAGS:FRONTAL
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2016 Buick Lacrosse and Chevrolet Spark EV, Caprice PPV and SS vehicles, 2014-2017 Buick Encore and Chevrolet Corvette, Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles, 2015-2016 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Tahoe, Trax, Suburban and Silverado 2500 and 3500 and GMC Yukon and Yukon XL vehicles, and 2015-2017 GMC Sierra HD 2500 and 3500 vehicles. While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 17287.

- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks manufactured January 29, 2013, to January 21, 2015. While entering the vehicle, the seat belt tensioner cable may be positioned such that the driver slides over it. This movement may result in the fatigue and separation of the cable.
- Consequence: If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will modify the vehicles to prevent the tensioner from being damaged. Any tensioner that has already been damaged will be replaced, free of charge. I purchased this truck back in April when it only had 20 miles on it. The interior is a significant upgrade from the 04 model. While the touch screen info system takes a little getting used to, it is not too complicated. However, the voice activation software could use some improvement as it takes several tries before the system understands what you want. The setup in the G8 works very well, so GM should have it perfected by now. The WIFI hotspot was okay, but not something I would use regularly enough to keep. The resolution of the backup camera is good, and I like the scaling on the display as it keeps things in perspective. The ride is a little bouncy, but road noise is minimal. I have the 5.3L engine with the trailering package, and the power is good, but the transmission seems slow to shift when driving around town at 30mph. I have not had any service or equipment issues, and I have driven 4XXX miles, mostly on the highway. My only true peeve is getting in. I did not get the step or rail, so even with my 6'.2

If you're looking for advice from someone who knows cars and trucks, I'm happy to share my experience. I've had the pleasure of driving both the SLE and SLT models in the crew cab, both with the V6 and V8 engines. For those who don't plan on towing more than 5,000 lbs, the V8 (5.3L) is a great choice as it has more horsepower, torque, and towing capacity, and will likely have better resale value. However, the V6 is more than capable of satisfying most buyers with its power, responsiveness, and torque. As for my personal experience, I purchased the 2015 GMC Sierra V8 SLT short bed and I absolutely love it. The power, torque, comfort, and quiet ride are all impressive. I've owned 9 cars in my few years on this planet, including SUVs, sports cars, and trucks, and this GMC is a cut above the rest. Moving on to the interior, it's absolutely amazing. Both the SLE and SLT models have a stylish and sleek stitched dash and steering wheel. While I could do without the ugly silver accents surrounding the 8I really love the look of the four doors and the bed, it's just all around sexy. Overall, the truck is great. The MPG is industry leading for a Crew Cab V8. I average around 20 on the freeway at 80 and 17 in the city with my moderately heavy foot. It would be even better if the truck came pre-leveled instead of having to buy a 1.5

Drives like a luxury car. Interior is absolutely top notch. The quietest vehicle I have ever owned. Had 2014 Chevy, this is a step up in style and interior materials. Loving it so far.--Had the time truck for a year now. Overall great experience. The shifting from 2nd to 3rd can be sluggish at the wrong time. Probably my only major complaint.

Firstly, I want to mention that I have the 5.3 V8 and it has more than enough power. The payload capacity exceeds my previous 2007 model. Due to my radical lug mud tires, my fuel mileage is currently around 16MPG, but I expect it to increase once I switch to street tires and stop hauling heavy loads or pulling a trailer. This truck has everything I need, including the trailer towing package, 4 wheel drive, and a locking differential, which is a must-have for a 4x4. The integrated trailer brakes are a great feature that I love. The only thing missing is a telescoping steering wheel, but it does have adjustable depth pedals. It feels like I custom ordered this truck, and I absolutely love it! I still love it even after switching from the mud tires, which has increased my MPG to an average of about 17 in town and 20 on the highway when empty. I've driven it for about 15k miles over the last year because I just can't get enough of it!

The Bose system in this vehicle could benefit from some improvements. The sound quality could be enhanced to better match the FM sound, and the bass and highs could be more balanced. Additionally, there is some noticeable resonance in the suspension when driving on imperfect paved roads. Overall, this is a great vehicle that could be even better with some adjustments to the sound system and suspension.

The headlights and chime could use some improvement, especially for a base model with an MSRP of 36K. It's disappointing that there are no power mirrors or door locks, and no Bluetooth. However, the dealer has acknowledged the issue with the headlights and there is a TSB available. Despite these setbacks, GMC has had record sales figures, which is a testament to the quality of their vehicles.

$65,000 for a designed 2015 Sierra Denali with 6.2L engine should hold up longer than 10 months. From day 1, I have informed the dealer that something was wrong with the transmission. Unfortunately, it does not shift smoothly at speeds 36/37 and 46/47 mph. Despite taking it in 3 times, the problem only worsened after being programmed once. The dealer suggested that I should not be pulling trailers with this truck, but I was talked into the 6.2L engine because of my boat, dump trailer, and small tractor. One day, when I put it in reverse, the rear end sounded like it was about to fall out. Driving in first and second gear sounded like metal scrubbing. I took it to the dealer and told them I did not want it back until it was fixed. They finally said I needed a transmission, which I had already told them a month after purchasing it. Even after the transmission was installed, it still does not shift smoothly, and I still hear a whining sound like something is not grounded. I finally took it to another dealer to trade in for a GMC 2500 HD, and they said the trade-in value was only $41K. The value dropped $24K in less than a year. Pros: Looks Good; great take-off speed; entertainment is good; rides well; good gas mileage. Cons: Transmission needs improvement (replaced less than 10 months old); parking assist fixed 3 times; whining sound; hard to see over the hood; price; resale value.

I recently made a large down payment on my Denali 2015 on Jan 7, 2016. Unfortunately, two days after having the car, I experienced some issues with it jerking before and after stopping, which was quite concerning and almost led to several accidents. I went back to Brickell Motor's and requested a new car, but was told to leave the car for two weeks so they could check it. I was quite frustrated with this response, as I had just purchased a 60k truck and did not want to leave it for repairs. After calling GMC and speaking with them for an hour, I was directed back to the dealer. Although I felt like I was treated poorly at first, one of the managers eventually came out to speak with me after I threatened to call the media. They still wanted me to leave the truck for repairs, but I was not willing to do so for a 20-day-old car. I called GMC again and was told that Marcia Owen and/or Pete Bur would be calling me back within 24 hours. I will update my blog if this issue gets resolved. If it doesn't, I want to warn everyone not to buy GMC products, especially from Brickell Motor's in Miami, Florida. Their customer service is terrible at all levels, and unfortunately, GMC is not much better.

The truck definitely catches your eye at first glance! However, I had a few issues with it such as the headlights blowing out at 10,000 miles, the running boards peeling like a sunburn at 16,000 miles, and the front bumper becoming loose and sliding a little to the right at 17,000 miles. The chrome on the emblems is also peeling. On the bright side, the dealership has been very helpful in replacing the defective parts. Although it has been inconvenient to keep returning to the dealership, I appreciate their willingness to fix the issues. After a year with the vehicle, it's time to trade it in and go back to a Tundra!
