2000 Gmc Sierra 1500 problems
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Common 2000 Gmc Sierra 1500 problems
The GMC Sierra 1500, produced in the year 2000, has been known for its reliability and performance, as reported by several satisfied owners. However, like any other vehicle, it may experience certain issues over time. Here are some of the common problems based on the complaints of GMC Sierra 1500 owners from the year 2000:
- Speedometer Issues: Some GMC Sierra 1500 owners have reported problems with the speedometer, which is an electrical and wiring issue. The most common problem is not the speedometer stopping entirely, but rather giving an inaccurate reading. This can lead to potential safety hazards, such as speeding tickets or losing control while taking a curve at the wrong speed.
- Electrical Problems: The GMC Sierra 1500 also faces several other electrical issues, including dash gauges not working, interior lights giving out, or the vehicle randomly locking or unlocking. These miscellaneous issues can range from mild to severe and may require varying levels of repair difficulty and cost.
- Heating System Problems: Some owners have reported issues with the heating system in their GMC Sierra 1500. The heater might turn on randomly, even in the middle of summer, which can be inconvenient and uncomfortable.
- Excessive Oil Consumption: Although this issue is more common in 2007-2013 models, some 2000 GMC Sierra 1500 owners may also experience excessive oil consumption due to faulty active fuel management (AFM) system, piston rings, or PVC system. This issue can lead to premature spark plug degradation and engine malfunction.
- Defective Speakers: Another frequently reported issue is that the speakers in the GMC Sierra 1500, particularly those in the door, may go out over time. This can occur intermittently or more regularly, such as every time the vehicle is started or the wheel is turned.
It is important to note that these issues may not affect all GMC Sierra 1500 vehicles from the year 2000, and some owners may not experience any problems at all. Regular maintenance and inspections can help prevent or address these issues early on.

Great ride and incredibly comfortable! This truck is one of the most comfortable vehicles I've ever owned. It's surprisingly peppy with the 4.8 V8 and gets a respectable 16 mpg in town driving.

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I just wanted to share my experience with this truck that I bought from my next door neighbor. It only had 14K miles on it and has been relatively problem-free. The only issue I've had is with the fuel gauge, which fluctuates due to the deteriorating float switch caused by additives in the gas. Additionally, the power seat switch sometimes moves the seat only an inch at a time. I've noticed some slip in the rear end from a stop, but it only happens once a month or so. On the bright side, the truck has a great ride when it has some cargo in the bed. I even took it on a 1600 mile vacation with my wife and 2 kids, and it was a great trip! Overall, I have no complaints. Lastly, I wanted to mention that the heated mirrors are probably a waste unless you plan on plowing snow, then they are a must. Thanks for listening!

If you're not looking for leather interior, DVD players, 4 wheel drive, or a cab extension that you won't use, this is a fantastic vehicle. GMC builds their vehicles like trucks, not truck-looking cars. I've loaded it many times and it rides great. This truck fits in standard parking spaces, making it a great ride for getting around town. My last GMC served me well for about 8 years before I traded it in for this one. I'll probably keep this one just as long, if not longer.

One great truck! It's amazing how little maintenance it needs - just oil and tire changes. The acceleration is fantastic, especially when compared to my old Expedition. The ride is incredibly smooth, and it handles towing our boat, 4 wheelers, and small 5th wheel with ease. I'm so impressed with how it doesn't get sluggish even with all that weight!

This has been an excellent truck. It's very sharp and extremely well-built. I haven't had to take it back to the dealer once for any problems. The fit and finish are perfect.

Broke down in March 2003 with this 2000 GMC 1500 6 cyl pickup at 73000 km and had to be towed. The distributor cap acquires moisture buildup and kills the spark. I am the second owner so this may have happened before. The towtruck operator and other owners in this area of Eastern Canada said this is a common problem with the newer Chev and GMC pickups in our Canadian wet but cold and damp weather. My previous 1988 Chev went for 15 yrs without this problem. What did they change?

I chose this truck over others because I believed it was better built. Although I don't drive it hard, I have had to spend around $5,000 on repairs since purchasing it for $30,000. Some of the repairs I've had to make include fixing both window regulators, replacing two sets of wheel bearings, repairing the ABS braking system, replacing the water pump, fixing the fuel gauge, replacing the air compressor bearings, replacing the fuel pressure sensor, replacing the throttle plate, and fixing a rip in the leather seat material after just one year. I paid $750 to fix a rough running issue, only to find out that the problem was a loose oxygen sensor, which should have been an easy and inexpensive fix. I also find the cost of getting this truck fixed at the dealer to be excessively high. I don't think I'll be buying another one in the future.

I am disappointed with the overall performance of my vehicle. Despite replacing the brakes and rotors at 15000 miles, the issue still persists. I have never encountered this problem with my other cars that have similar mileage. Additionally, I had to replace the battery after only 2 years and now there is a noise in the steering. However, I am confident that these issues can be resolved and I am hopeful for the future years with my vehicle.

I had a regular cab GMC and traded it in for a bigger one. I have not regretted the trade. The truck is comfortable and quiet. The only issue I had was a leak in one of the A/C lines, which was fixed in just an hour. This truck is definitely a keeper!
