Gmc Sierra 1500 2014 problems
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: The frame of the vehicle is rusted through in 2 areas. I recently noticed the rusting frame. Shortly after I purchase the vehicle the rust preventative coating, that was factory applied, was noticed pealing from the frame rails. I sprayed undercoating on the frame at that time to avoid rust after seeing that the factory application had failed. This has not been adequate as the frame has rusted in an area that the inside channel of the frame did not drain effectively and therefore collected water and salt during the winter months. The frame cross members are also rusting badly. The metal is flaking off excessively. In contrast the trailer hitch on the truck is in very good condition because it is the only part of the frame that appears to be properly conditioned to resist corrosion.

STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-05-03
- VIN: 1GTV2VEC0EZ
- Components: STEERING,ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,ENGINE
- Summary: I know this is a well known issue with these trucks. Have had issues with power steering not working at low speeds which they claim it’s do to low voltage. This has happened numerous times and then on May 3rd I went to back into my driveway off a busy state route with hills on each end of the road. Put my hazard lights on let three vehicles pass and then I turned the wheel and gave it gas soon as the truck got into the middle of the road it shut off. Everything stopped working no hazard lights for about 10seconds and then I had to put the truck into park turn ignition key off and then back on to restart the truck. Again this is all do to low voltage from what everyone else has said with the same issue. There are no warnings what so every even the voltage meter is fine and the truck doesn’t hesitate at all it’s like someone disconnected the battery. I’m sure there is a way for GM to reprogram the pc for the voltage drop. At least have something like radio go out or ac, heat other than the engine and entire electrical shutting off. Something like this is going to get someone killed and GM should be held accountable for these problems.
STEERING PROBLEM

SERVICE BRAKES PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2020-07-04
- VIN: 3GTP1UEH6EG
- Components: SERVICE BRAKES
- Summary: When I am braking at low speed my brakes start locking up and eventually do not work. This has happened on multiple occasions. I have almost wrecked multiple times I rarely drive my truck now cause it is unsafe. There is a recall on the brake booster 2014 to 2018 gmc seria but my truck vin is not included on that recall and it’s doing the exact same thing. GM recalls 3.4 million pickups and SUVs over brake pump Sept. 12, 2019 1 The recall includes the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra (model years 2014-2018), and affects a vacuum pump defect that may make it more difficult to brake at low speeds.
ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING PROBLEM
- Date Of Incident: 2024-03-01
- VIN: 1GTN1TEH1EZ
- Components: ELECTRICAL SYSTEM,EXTERIOR LIGHTING
- Summary: Back up lights and Tail light problems My Back up lights turn on when the headlights are turned on and do not shut off unless the headlights are off. Also, recently, the rear tail lights were burning out early and would last only two weeks. The source of the problem seems to be in the fuse box. There is no short in the system. It appears to be in the fuse box of the 2014 GMC Sierra 1500. Bulbs were replaced and burned out quickly. Replacement parts are expensive and this problem exists on other Chevrolet and GMC trucks.

While being previously remedied for recall 16V-651, the affected vehicles may not have received the complete software update necessary to remedy the recall condition. Without the update, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test. During this test, deployment of the frontal air bags and the seat belt pretensioners would not occur in the event of a crash.
- Consequence: A failure of the front air bags or seat belt pretensioners to deploy in the event of a crash necessitating deployment increases the risk of injury to the driver and front passenger.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will reflash the SDM software. Vehicles that have had a previous air bag deployment will have the SDM replaced. These repairs will be performed free of charge. The recall began on August 4, 2017. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. In the affected vehicles, certain driving conditions may cause the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) software to activate a diagnostic test.
The recall began on October 13, 2016. Owners may contact Buick customer service at 1-800-521-7300, Cadillac customer service at 1-800-458-8006, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 16007.
- Manufacturer: General Motors LLC
- Components: SEAT BELTS
- Summary: General Motors LLC (GM) is recalling certain model year 2014-2015 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 trucks manufactured January 29, 2013, to January 21, 2015. While entering the vehicle, the seat belt tensioner cable may be positioned such that the driver slides over it. This movement may result in the fatigue and separation of the cable.
- Consequence: If the tensioner cable separates, the driver may not be properly restrained in the event of a crash, increasing their risk of injury.
- Remedy: GM will notify owners, and dealers will modify the vehicles to prevent the tensioner from being damaged. Any tensioner that has already been damaged will be replaced, free of charge. The recall began on August 11, 2016. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782. GM's number for this recall is 15822.

Hi there! I've had my 2014 Sierra 1500 Z71 4WD for a little over 4 years now and overall it's been a great experience. The exterior styling is awesome and the transmission and engine both run strong. The locking rear differential does its job and the MPG is not bad for the power/weight ratio. Although I did have a major problem with the driver-side (LH) rear axle seal going bad/leaking with just 9,500 miles on it. Unfortunately, my owning experience was further dampened by at least 10 recalls from GM. I understand that small glitches can happen, but it left a bad impression. However, I do give GM credit for making a truck that holds up to ordinary/average daily use. I use it daily for hauling kids and sports gear, as well as moving mulch for DIY house work. As of April 2018, I've had the Sierra for 99,645 miles and the transmission fluids were changed at 65,000 miles. The next change will be at 110,000 miles. I've never had a problem with the auto transmission, it runs strong with smooth/crisp shift points. I've even driven the vehicle from central U.S. to the West Coast and back. The engine is also strong on the vehicle and I change the oil on average every 4,500 or 5,000 miles or every 3 months.

My 2014 GMC Sierra has not lived up to the gas mileage expectations set by the door sticker, despite being a 4WD with a 5200 motor. After 17000 miles, I can confidently say that the gas mileage is still poor, with only 15-17 mpg on the highway and 10-11 mpg in the city. Additionally, the low seats and hard-to-reach window crank handles are major inconveniences. However, this work truck does have some great features, such as 4x4 capability, air conditioning, a great radio, and stylish chrome wheels. Overall, it is a good value for the money, but I urge GMC to be more transparent about gas mileage on their window stickers.

I bought my new truck in September 2013 and opted for the heated/cooled seat option. Unfortunately, it turned out to be a mistake as hot air blows on rear seat passengers in cooling mode. Even after driving for 75 miles, the air doesn't cool off. Since I usually have someone in the back seat, it feels like a waste of money. Additionally, after driving for 75-100 miles, the seat becomes uncomfortable. Despite the dealer reps not being able to duplicate my complaint, the GMC service rep got involved after reading my complaint and was able to fix the seat. Now, with 52,335 miles, the seat is much more comfortable. However, I still can't use the seat cooling with rear seat passengers and the rear seat ventilation duct outlet under the driver and front passenger seat has very little air going to the rear seat passengers. I would love to see the same type of rear seat ventilation that my 2003 Chevrolet pickup had, with ducted outlets at the rear of the console to enhance the comfort of rear seat passengers. Initially, I got 21.5 to 22.5 mpg at 68mph, which was why I bought the truck. Unfortunately, after a recall, I now only get 18 mpg if I'm lucky.

It's great to hear about your experience with your 2014 Sierra V6 WT! It sounds like you've got a reliable truck that's serving you well. It's good to know that you haven't experienced any of the issues that others have reported, and that your truck is running smoothly. It's also impressive that you're getting such good gas mileage in the city. Hopefully, you'll get similar results on the highway. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the truck's performance and features. It's always helpful to hear from someone who's actually driving the vehicle. The only thing you mentioned that could be improved is the lighting in the regular cab. Overall, it sounds like you're happy with your purchase!

I bought my new truck at the Springfield, VT GMC dealership and I am very happy with it. Initially, I experienced a rattling noise in the muffler/driveshaft area, but the GMC dealer found that it was a loose baffle in the muffler. After replacing the exhaust system, the sound disappeared and has not returned. I get good mileage and the truck has better options than my last new truck (Silverado). When I first got the truck, the headlights were insufficient at night, but GMC had a service bulletin on this issue and replaced the bulbs free of charge. They have been fine since. I had a rhino liner sprayed in and it was a great investment. I recommend keeping the tailgate locked at all times due to a periodic rash of theft in the area. Currently, I have 10k mileage and although I bought the truck in Vermont, I have a local GMC dealer take care of inspections, oil changes, etc. Would I buy another GMC? Absolutely! I tried to select the year (2014) but the drop-down menu would not allow it.

I purchased a 2014 Sierra All Terrain in September 2013. Unfortunately, the headlights were far too dim and posed a danger. Despite my attempts to address the issue with GM, they did not acknowledge the problem. Additionally, I experienced difficulty engaging the 4-wheel drive while stuck in snow in high range, and the engine would not accelerate properly. The transmission also clunks and shifts strangely, hanging up between gears at low speed acceleration and slipping. The truck has been recalled 7 times and is currently experiencing a coolant leak, which will require a visit to the dealer. Due to these issues, I have decided to switch to a Dodge Ram. However, I have also experienced issues with the headlights on my new Ram.

I had a bad experience with my GM truck and I am disappointed with the way GM handled the situation. The AC high pressure line broke three times due to a manufacturing defect and I had to pay out of pocket to replace it each time. I also experienced major vibration and clunking in the rear end, which GM refused to fix. Eventually, the rear end came apart and knocked a hole in the bottom of the casing. I found numerous complaints online regarding the same problem, and even a possible recall in the future. Although there was a seatbelt recall and a steering assist recall, the dealership service manager was not helpful and even rude. I believe that GM should take responsibility for their vehicles and do the right thing for their customers. Let's hope that they will step up and make things right.

I wrote a review earlier that said 'looks good, drives poor'. Here's an update after driving 4000 miles. Unfortunately, the truck has continued to be a disappointment. I had to replace the rear shocks due to leaks and the driver's seat has broken twice. Despite being a relatively light person at 160 lbs, the seat keeps breaking. The drivability of this truck is poor and the shifts are still very questionable, both upshifts and downshifts. On a recent 650 mile highway drive, the truck shifted quite a bit on cruise at 74 mph. The average mpg on the trip was 17.3, which is awful. The mpg has declined and I now average about 14.8. Compared to my 07 5.3 Silverado, it's about 3 mpg less. Maybe I got a bad one, but how many bad ones are out there?

I purchased my truck just a month ago. It's a sleek black beauty with all the bells and whistles. Unfortunately, I've experienced a few issues. At around 480 miles, I noticed a noise coming from the rear end. GM initially thought it was the displacement on demand, but it turned out to be a bad ring gear. The truck required a whole new rear end. At 680 miles, I noticed the transmission was making some strange noises during normal driving conditions, and it was having trouble selecting the right gear when I took my foot off the gas. Today, the truck stalled with a loud bang when shifting from R to D. Despite these issues, I still really like the truck when it's parked. However, I would advise potential buyers to be cautious.

This truck certainly catches the eye of many passersby with its stunning appearance. However, after experiencing some issues such as rusting and recalls, it may not be the best investment for everyone. It might be worth considering sticking to the tried and true classics. While it may be disappointing to discover these issues, it's important to make the best decision for your needs. If you have already purchased this truck and are experiencing issues, it may be wise to consider selling it while you still can.
