The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

- Summary: While driving on Saturday, July 29th, I went to make a right turn @ intersection of Nottingham Way onto Ledo Rd. The vehicle started jerking and suddenly shutoff. I had no power steering, No power brakes. I had to manually steer and stop the truck into the median, while avoiding oncoming traffic. I got the vehicle to stop. I tried to restart and the engine turned over, but would not start. I contacted the local Chevrolet dealership, and was told they don't work on anything older than 2013 vehicles. I had the truck towed to the house. After further investigation, there was a service bulletin 14515B, that replaced 14515A. The Safety recall stated CHASSIS ELECTRONIC CONTROL MODULE INTERNAL CONTAMINATION. So GM is aware of this issue, that could have caused an accident. The local dealership is denying that my truck is involved in this recall. They knew of the problem and never contacted me about this issue. This is a severe SAFETY issue. GM should be responsible for repairing a defective Control module as they knew of contamination as of January 2015. This almost cause multiple head on collisions.

Both upper shock mounts rusted off and the rear spring shackles have holes in them I had a service center look at it and he said there maybe not enough metal to weld to. I told him as you can see this truck has been garage kept since new and not in the sun. He said I can see that . I told him per the paper work I received if not fixed it may cause serious injury or death to passengers .Who's going to pay for that. He said GM and Takata. I absolutely love driving this truck! My last one was a 1990 model that I owned for 20 years and drove for 400,000 miles without any problems. But this one is like driving a Cadillac - it's smooth, quiet, and peppy. I work for a large factory that buys Ford trucks, which I drive every day, but they feel like driving a Model T compared to this GMC. The GMC has so much more class! While the Fords are always in the shop, I haven't had a single problem with my GMC. As an auto mechanic for 20 years before I started factory work, I know that if you take care of your vehicle, it will last. And with the refinement that GMC has installed in this truck, it should last a lifetime! I have never been happier with a truck. The only drawback is the gas mileage in town, which is no better than my old truck, but the open road mileage is very good.

I hope you're doing well! I just wanted to share my experience with my truck. So far, I've driven it about 6000 miles and I'm happy to report that I haven't had any problems at all. The only thing I've noticed is a hard upshift when I have to stop suddenly. As for gas mileage, I'm only getting about 16 mpg. Before this truck, I had a 04 Nissan Titan 4x4, but I haven't been too disappointed with the switch. Overall, I think GM did a great job with the re-design. Thanks for listening!

Hi there! I hope you're doing well. I wanted to share my experience with my GMC that I purchased in November. Unfortunately, I noticed an uncomfortable ride from the very beginning. I reached out to the dealership and they advised me to bring it in. After a test drive, they couldn't replicate the problem but did find that the tires were out of balance. While it was disappointing to find out that the vehicle wasn't inspected properly from the factory, I'm glad they were able to identify the issue. However, I'm still experiencing the hard downshift. Great truck to drive! It handles so well. The 20-inch wheels are a fantastic option to have. The 5.3L V8 is incredibly smooth. I looked at Ford, Toyota, and Dodge, but I kept going back to GMC. I feel like I made a great choice.

I hope you're doing well! I wanted to share my experience with my new truck (slt, z71, 1500 crew cab) that I bought last week. I must say, the aesthetics are very nice both inside and out. While it's not quite as comfortable as my old truck, I'm sure it will get better with time. I'm still discovering all the little extras it has, like the back up warning lights in the rear of the cab. Overall, I'm extremely pleased with the truck and would highly recommend it to anyone!

The truck's power/acceleration is my only complaint. Despite having the 5.3L Crew Cab with 6-speed AT, the acceleration is not up to par. The transmission sometimes produces loud clunking noises, which can be concerning. However, I appreciate the other features of the truck. It is possible that the engine/transmission performance is limited due to the long warranty period imposed by GM.

Since I got the truck, there have been constant rattles from the dash, my rims are peeling, there's piston slap, and a vibration in the steering shaft. Despite these issues, I do like the truck's interior. However, I'm starting to think that I may have gotten a lemon.

Hey everyone, just wanted to share an update with you all. I recently sold my 09 GMC after owning it for 8 months. While it looked great on the outside, I had a few issues with it that made it less enjoyable to own. I had to take it in for service 17 times! The transmission had a clunk and hard shift, which turned out to be due to a part that was installed backwards. I also noticed some strange sounds coming from the wheels and gas tank. I got to know the dealership staff pretty well because of all the visits I had to make. I spoke to a friend who had a similar experience with his Silverado, so hopefully they've fixed these issues by now. Lesson learned, I'll be buying a Ford next time! Take care everyone!

I purchased a 2009 GMC Junk as a replacement for my beloved 1994 GMC 3/4 ton, which I regret selling. Unfortunately, the driver visibility is non-existent, and the lower corners cut out of the mirrors prevent a clear rear view near the truck. The lane lines in the mirror appear several vehicles behind, and I must adjust the mirrors to see the curb/sidewalk when parallel parking. Oversized posts and mirror assembly severely restrict the driver's ability to see pedestrians or objects, which is a safety concern. In contrast, I could confidently park my 1994 truck within inches without incident for six years. Unfortunately, my 2009 truck has many dents after only three years, like many others on the road, including police vehicles. The engine, transmission, and steering also leave much to be desired.

Hi there! I have a GMC 2009 1500 Sierra Crew Cab SLT 4x4. Unfortunately, I've been experiencing some issues with my backup sensors and transmission slipping. Additionally, the brakes have been a bit unresponsive at times. I've also noticed that the truck cuts off while driving and the gas mileage isn't great. Interestingly, I had an '06 2500 HD lifted with a 6.0 gas motor which actually got better gas mileage. On top of that, I've had some trouble with the traction control and my radio/OnStar not working properly. I've been to the dealership four times, but they haven't been able to find anything wrong. It's been frustrating, especially since GM denied my request for reimbursement. I hope we can find a solution soon. Thanks for your help!
