2008 Gmc Sierra 1500 problems
The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Taking its name from the top trim level from the Chevrolet C/K series, the Silverado is offered as a series of full-size pickup trucks, chassis cab trucks, and medium-duty trucks. The fourth generation of the model line was introduced for the 2019 model year.
The Chevrolet Silverado shares mechanical commonality with the identically related GMC Sierra; GMC ended the use of the C/K nomenclature a model generation prior to Chevrolet. In Mexico, high-trim level versions of the Silverado use the Chevrolet Cheyenne name (not to be confused with the 2003 concept). Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

Common 2008 Gmc Sierra 1500 problems
The 2008 GMC Sierra 1500 is a popular pickup truck that has been known to have several common problems based on complaints from owners. These issues include lifter problems, door lock failures, and water leaks in the cabin.
Lifter problems are a significant issue in the 2008 Sierra 1500, particularly around 140,000 miles. The lifters can fail, leading to engine problems that require a rebuild, which can cost about $3,000. This issue is not very common, but if it occurs, it can be a significant expense for the owner.
Door lock failures are another common problem in the 2008 Sierra 1500, particularly in the first 50,000 miles. The actuators tend to wear out quickly compared to other vehicles, and cost about $200 to replace. This issue can be a significant inconvenience for the owner, particularly if they are locked out of their vehicle.
Water leaking into the truck’s cabin is also a problem mentioned by owners at about 20,000 miles. A clogged drain line is the most common source of the problem, and cleaning it out costs about $150. This issue can lead to mold and mildew growth, which can cause health problems for the vehicle's occupants.
In addition to these common problems, the 2008 Sierra 1500 has also had several recalls, including the windshield washer system and airbags. However, these issues are not a concern once they've been addressed.
Regarding maintenance costs, the 2008 Sierra 1500 has higher annual maintenance costs than its competitors, at $611 per year. Buyers should be prepared to replace the starter for $500, engine oil cooler lines costing $300, and the alternator which costs around $700.
Despite these issues, the 2008 Sierra 1500 is generally considered a reliable vehicle, with many owners reporting that it can last over 250,000 miles with proper care. However, it is essential to be aware of these common problems and budget for potential repairs and maintenance costs.

The Sierra 1500 is an absolute dream to drive, especially coming from a Honda Civic. I've noticed how quiet the ride is, with virtually no road noise when the windows are up. With all-around driving, I've been getting around 16.6mpg, which I suspect will improve as the motor breaks in. If you're looking for fuel economy, a Prius might be a better option, but if you want a powerful and enjoyable driving experience, the Sierra 1500 is the way to go. I highly recommend getting the remote start option, which allows you to start the truck a few minutes before you leave and ensures the perfect climate inside. Overall, I'm loving driving to work now that I have this amazing truck.

I've had my Denali AWD for 10 years now and it has exceeded my expectations. As someone who has owned and operated all brands of trucks, including the Cadillac EXT, I can confidently say that the Sierra Denali beats it on all fronts except ride, horsepower and towing. Nevertheless, this truck has performed well above average and has not fallen apart even after almost 190,000 miles on all terrains, including farm roads, rock bluffs and trails. I highly recommend regular maintenance to keep it in top shape. While there have been some minor issues such as degraded alloy rims and decreased gas mileage at high mileage, these are to be expected for a truck. The engine has needed some repairs for oil leaks, but these were routine and easily fixed. Overall, this truck has held up remarkably well and still looks like new inside and out. I would highly recommend it to anyone in the market for a reliable and durable truck.

Gas mileage is remarkable for a large truck with the 5.3 l engine. You can typically average 18.9 combined driving and 20.2 on long interstate trips, and I have measured it numerous times. I test drove all the trucks on the market, and this one is hands down the best. The quietness, comfort, handling, and audio system are simply the best on the market.

I sold a 95 3/4 ton and bought this 1500 series Sierra. I was a bit worried about whether this 1/2 ton could handle pulling my 16ft trailer and compact farm tractor. However, I am thrilled to say that the Sierra handles this task with ease. I have been thoroughly impressed with this truck in every way.

I'm so glad to hear that you're enjoying your new truck! It sounds like you got a great deal on it and that the fit and finish are excellent. It's also great to hear that it drives and rides better than your previous Volvo sedan. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with us!

This truck has had too many problems with the check engine light coming on constantly. Unfortunately, the gas cap seems to come loose often. It would be great if GM could provide better stock tires, as I had a flat from a piece of limestone gravel. The dealer suggested I should drive on better roads, but it's a truck after all. Although I regret buying this truck and should have stayed with Ford, the dealer has been helpful on some occasions. However, it takes multiple visits to fix one problem. I hope the service manager can address the issues more efficiently. I have decided that this will be my last GM product.

According to GM bulletin # 01-07-30-042G, the clunk noise when shifting to 3rd gear that you are experiencing in your 2013 Sierra is a normal condition. Despite several attempts to resolve the issue, including a test drive from a GM representative, the noise persists. Rest assured that your truck is still under warranty and any potential issues will be addressed with the utmost care and attention.

I purchased a pickup through the GM Employee Pricing sale and received an excellent deal. While I have noticed the activation and deactivation of the 4 and 8 cylinders, as well as a slight jerk from the transmission when starting from a complete stop, I am confident in the quality of my purchase. After changing the oil, I did notice a slight oil smell in the cabin for the first 1,500 miles, but it eventually dissipated and I have not been able to find any leaks.

I have a 2007 Envoy that I absolutely love! I purchased it to test out GMC before buying a brand new truck after graduation. However, I have had some issues with the lifters and have had to replace them a few times each year. I hope that GM can find a solution to this problem soon, as it can be quite expensive. Despite this issue, I still love my Envoy. While I may not consider purchasing another GMC, Buick, Cadillac, or Chevy until this issue is resolved, I appreciate the positive experiences I have had with my Envoy. Thank you for listening to my concerns.

After my power train warranty expired, my AFM lifter stuck. However, I did my research and found out that by keeping a close eye on my oil level, I can prevent this issue from happening again. As for the cracks in my dash, they remind me of the materials used in 80's GM cars, but I am glad to see that they are bringing back those materials. While I may not purchase another GM truck, I would recommend buying new and taking advantage of the warranty period.
