The Chevrolet Silverado is a range of trucks manufactured by General Motors under the Chevrolet brand. Introduced for the 1999 model year, the Silverado is the successor to the long-running Chevrolet C/K model line. Competing against the Ford F-Series, Ram Pickup, Toyota Tundra, and Nissan Titan, the Silverado is among the best-selling vehicles in the United States, having sold over 12 million trucks since its introduction in 1998 as a 1999 model year.
History
The Silverado nameplate made its debut for the 1975 model year, becoming the top trim level on all Chevrolet C/K trucks, slotted above Custom Deluxe, Scottsdale, and Cheyenne. For the 1968 model year (seven years before the Silverado), GMC C/K trucks used variations of the Sierra name (Sierra, Sierra Classic, Sierra Grande, and High Sierra). Even after the C/K series officially ended, GM still uses the CK and the CC in their current model codes, to denote a two-wheel drive (CC), and four-wheel drive (CK).
For the 1988 GMT400 model architecture, Chevrolet retained the C/K model nomenclature, with GMC branding its full-size line as Sierras. While sharing the same body and chassis, the model chronology of the Silverado and Sierra are different, with five generations of the Sierra, while four of the Silverado.
In 2018, at the NTEA Work Truck Show in Indianapolis, Indiana, Chevrolet unveiled the first medium-duty Silverado, expanding the model line to a 4500HD, 5500HD, and 6500HD chassis cab. Largely the successor to the 2003–2009 GMT560 chassis, the medium-duty trucks are exclusive to Chevrolet, with no plans for an equivalent GMC version. Instead, Navistar International (now partnering with GM) would sell the medium-duty trucks as a rebadged counterpart, called the CV. This is in fact a very similar nod to how the Avalanche did not have a GMC Yukon–based equivalent, but instead, Cadillac would take its place as the former's rebadged counterpart, the Escalade EXT.

GMC really nailed it with this one! I replaced my 2004 vehicle with this beauty and the difference is like night and day. It's so much fun to drive and I'm getting good mileage too - 18.8mpg in the first 500 miles. This truck is a real winner for GMC and I'm so glad I didn't give up on them and switch to the Japanese market. The interior is great, with fine fit and function, and it looks good too. I absolutely love this truck!

I hope you're doing well! I noticed that your family member bought the Tundra in Oct.'07 and Toyota is making a big deal out of their 5.7L engine. While the Tundra is a nice truck, I personally decided to go with the Sierra for several reasons. The Sierra has better road manners, especially on the freeway, and very tight steering. Additionally, the Sierra has a much more luxurious, refined, and thought-out interior. Everything inside is beautiful and solid, which is not an easy feat to accomplish. The classic looks of the Sierra are yet modern, and GM really hit a home run with this design. I get more looks and questions than when I had a Porsche. The Crew-cab size of the Sierra is perfect, which is not the case with the Tundra. With the Tundra, you either get the smaller ex-cab or the huge double, which is bigger than Dodge's. In my opinion, GM is the clear winner here!

I recently decided to replace my SUV with a full-size truck. After considering various options, I narrowed my choices down to an '08 Sierra SLT and an '07 Tundra Limited. I have always bought Japanese, but the Tundra's bloated price and lacklustre performance in every category, except for its powertrain, made it an unattractive option. On the other hand, the GMC SLT's luxurious interior and superior automatic 4x4 shift make it a clear winner. Additionally, the GMC has better crash test scores than the Tundra. Although it is my first full-size truck, I find driving it to be a joy. While parking can be a bit of a challenge, the parking assist feature makes it manageable even for a newbie like myself.

I had been searching for a truck for a while and finally settled on this one. I picked up a used 2008 with 32000 miles and I've had it for over a month now. I absolutely love it! It rides so smoothly, like a caddy, and the gas mileage is pretty good. On the highway at 65mph, it gets 23mpg. Toyota can't touch that. I have the 5.3 and although I haven't had it long enough to say how reliable it is, I know from experience that these 'Chevys' are tough. I have the HD tow package and rear locking diff and it pulls my 20' Cobia like it's not even back there. The interior is nice and tight with no rattles or quirkiness. There's no engine rattle or cam bump either. It sounds as if the motor is not even running. This truck is just pure quality!

The Sierra 1500 is an absolute dream to drive, especially coming from a Honda Civic. I've noticed how quiet the ride is, with virtually no road noise when the windows are up. With all-around driving, I've been getting around 16.6mpg, which I suspect will improve as the motor breaks in. If you're looking for fuel economy, a Prius might be a better option, but if you want a powerful and enjoyable driving experience, the Sierra 1500 is the way to go. I highly recommend getting the remote start option, which allows you to start the truck a few minutes before you leave and ensures the perfect climate inside. Overall, I'm loving driving to work now that I have this amazing truck.

In 2008, I purchased a GMC Sierra 4x4 half-ton truck. While it looks good, I have experienced numerous issues with it. Recently, with only 46914 miles on it, the locking differential engaged while I was backing out of my slightly inclined garage, and I had to tow it to the dealership. Despite trying everything to disengage the locking diff, I was unable to do so. In addition to this issue, I have also experienced flashing from under the truck while driving, blinkers and tail lights fogging up, battery leakage, and gauge malfunctions. However, I am confident that these issues can be resolved with the right expertise and attention.

This truck has had too many problems with the check engine light coming on constantly. Unfortunately, the gas cap seems to come loose often. It would be great if GM could provide better stock tires, as I had a flat from a piece of limestone gravel. The dealer suggested I should drive on better roads, but it's a truck after all. Although I regret buying this truck and should have stayed with Ford, the dealer has been helpful on some occasions. However, it takes multiple visits to fix one problem. I hope the service manager can address the issues more efficiently. I have decided that this will be my last GM product.

According to GM bulletin # 01-07-30-042G, the clunk noise when shifting to 3rd gear that you are experiencing in your 2013 Sierra is a normal condition. Despite several attempts to resolve the issue, including a test drive from a GM representative, the noise persists. Rest assured that your truck is still under warranty and any potential issues will be addressed with the utmost care and attention.

I purchased a pickup through the GM Employee Pricing sale and received an excellent deal. While I have noticed the activation and deactivation of the 4 and 8 cylinders, as well as a slight jerk from the transmission when starting from a complete stop, I am confident in the quality of my purchase. After changing the oil, I did notice a slight oil smell in the cabin for the first 1,500 miles, but it eventually dissipated and I have not been able to find any leaks.

I have a 2007 Envoy that I absolutely love! I purchased it to test out GMC before buying a brand new truck after graduation. However, I have had some issues with the lifters and have had to replace them a few times each year. I hope that GM can find a solution to this problem soon, as it can be quite expensive. Despite this issue, I still love my Envoy. While I may not consider purchasing another GMC, Buick, Cadillac, or Chevy until this issue is resolved, I appreciate the positive experiences I have had with my Envoy.
